thinking about mfas and applying to writing grad school… tell me your thoughts is this bad, dumb, a good idea???

the waiting in my life has gotten to the point where i started looking at masters programs today

You know I'm starting to think that not regularly expressing my ideas aloud (in my own words, using my voice or with type) may be having a detrimental effect on my ability to write stories, seeing as I need to communicate ideas to a reader who doesn't know jack about what's going on in my head

all of us who are snobs about Good Novels certainly have a lot to complain about, right? there are SO many widely-loved, widely-read novels that are bad bad bad, & us assholes gotta hear all about them

but

do you know who is really taking a nigh-lethal amount of psychic damage, on the regular, from Mainstream Opinion?

Honestly, the real story behind the Cat Person film/short story sounds more interesting and chaotic than the movie itself.

So, basically how bad was real life Robert?

The original girlfriend, whom the author based it on, insists he was a decent enough guy, they dated for a few years. She says the bad sex and foul text messages never happened. She remembers him fondly. But acknowledges she was 18 when they started dating and he was 32. (red flag.)

But then the author, who also knew and dated him, paints him out to be a terrible guy, then based the story on the original girlfriend, who is reasonably pissed about it. And the author included every exact detail so everyone in their social circle knew it was about them. But then made up all the nasty stuff..

Original girlfriend says when the story went viral it sent real life Robert into a spiral of depression. He died suddenly in 2021. She never explains why, but the suggestion is suicide.

Creative writing majors be causing all the drama.

looking into mfa programs to apply to in the fall and getting hit with a giant wave of despair and ennui and general dissatisfaction with both my current life and my potential future 👍

Having a very strong urge to write fanfic, or even just excerpts about my own little OCs, which I haven’t had in a suprisingly long time.

Super bummed out that I just don’t have the time right now—between my creative nonfiction essay due for workshop Friday, revision of my hermit-crab essay before submissions, and progressing on the art half of my capstone exhibition.

i should not be venom webweaving right now i have so much homework to be doing but. what if i saved reading a whole half of beowulf for later. in order to talk about venom and mothica lyrics again. and then also postponed my reading journal and my other journal and my discussion forum responses and the reading that i didn't finish for my cultural studies class earlier today because i was telling my friend about venom and my powerpoint slides and—

My love made a task list app for me so I can be a bit more prepared going into my MFA residency this December <3 It toggles between categories where you can add tasks to specific categories. The categories are user-created, so you can tailor them to your individual needs. For example: I needed a category for work, school, around the home, and personal goals. Categories with no tasks turn purple and categories with tasks that still need to be completed turn pink and lists how many tasks are left to complete in each category (for example: I have 3 work tasks to complete) The tasks lists are accessible via the navigation pane on the left, so I'm not bombarded with all the tasks being visible on my screen at once. Instead, I can toggle between categories and focus on one category at a time. This helps me from getting distracted by all the other things I need to do. If I want to spend Monday mornings focusing on just school work, then I'll only open the MFA Residency tab.

He's planning on adding a Spotify player to it for my lo-fi studying playlist, as well as a few other features I'm looking forward to (theme customizations, animated background, a calendar...etc) but it's currently functional and ready for me to play with! He even let me choose the colors ! Although he's hoping to add additional color palettes for users to choose from.

A lot of the other apps I was trying to use were either behind a paywall OR had so many features it was overwhelming. So I'm loving its simplicity so far. He told me to write down any bugs or update ideas.

Any additional feature suggestions? Any features that could be useful to students while still keeping it simple and uncluttered? Some apps do SOOO much it can be hard to keep track of everything, so I'd like to keep it simple & sweet
