The Keilens are Fostering

Per Michael's latest IG post, she and Brandon are now foster parents to two boys.

The way they have written about the experience makes me believe that they are being very mindful of the trauma and baggage these kids have. I don't think these boys are going to be social media props. It looks like the Keilens are providing a loving home for these kids, whether that's for a week or months or forever.

(Obviously we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but. . . IDK. This tiny glimpse isn't setting off any alarm bells for me.)

IDK y'all. I don't have any snark here--I'm genuinely happy for Michael + Brandon. Fostering is a huge decision that not everyone is cut out for. Good for them for taking that step.

William "Bill" Bates (aka Papa Bill) passed away on May 13. He is the father of Gil Bates.

Let's exercise some caution before giving the Keilens too much credit for protecting the kids privacy. They're literally obligated by law to not post them on social media. Foster kids and kids still going through the adoption process can't be shared on public social media accounts. Michael has zero problems plastering her nieces and nephews all over social media so I have no doubt she would do the same with hers if she was able to.

I know. Like I said in my original comment, it seems like they’re following the rules and moving toward the right steps but, that could always be a facade for social media, obviously I don’t know them in real life. I just wanted to acknowledge that because in my experience fundies tend to follow the lines of “rules for thee, not for me” so it’s nice to see them seemingly following the rules (laws). Do I think strict fundamentalists should be allowed to be foster parents? No, not really. Do I hope those kids can go home to their family, absolutely. The bar is hell with fundies, if the kids have to be in this situation, acknowledging the bare minimum effort sometimes needs to be done in order to potentially keep that door open so that fundies keep educating themselves on that subject. Obviously Michael and Brandon don’t see this, they don’t care what I think but, I want to hope they continue to do “better” for the sake of the boys in their care.

I don't think I've ever heard about their miscarriage before, at least not in specific terms. That makes me all the more sad that people constantly bug her about kids. I'm not sure if I've ever heard her say that IVF isn't a medically viable option for her either.

The fighting one got me though lol, not that I don't believe them bc they don't seem like confrontational people. It's just wild to me that you could live with someone so long and never hear them talk with strong emotion.

Michaela definitely has the worst Bates fashion sense for me. Whenever she chooses an outfit it sometimes ends up looking like a nightdress. I will use that pink dress she likes to wear as an example.

I agree. Adopted children deserves parents who choose to adopt them, not as a Plan B for if they didn't conceive.

Yes! Even if Michael and Brandon were considering adoption before they were married I’m sure it’s more complicated now because of the trauma of not being able to conceive on their own. I wish people would just stop suggesting it to her.

A nursing related update from Michael.

I realize I’m going to have to update this literally tomorrow probably, but I just came across my last version of this so I thought I’d make a new “Who we know is pregnant right now” - I’m guessing that we will get announcements from Jill, Jessa and Josie soon, honestly. And I could see Lauren and Carlin announcing before the end of the year as well. Which means... we might have a new babygeddon on our hands!

Following my Mother’s day post for Meech, I thought I’d follow up with some Mother’s Day for Kelly Jo (again, with added content from yours truly):

Whitney with her birth mother and her mother-in-law (but nothing about her foster/adoptive parents? Is this a thing I don’t know about?? I’m new to the Bates family.)

I chose to not include all 4 pictures Michaela posted, and just stuck with Mom and MIL, also seem pretty generic.

Erin’s posts. I actually like the fact she listed Chad’s mom as her Hero. Not entirely sure why, it just screams the fact that she knows her mom isn’t perfect, and that she has a good relationship with her MIL.

Lawson’s post was just informing everyone his mom was in the hospital and he was asking for prayers. Not my favorite thing but.... maybe I’ll call it “classy” because he’s aware the family has a following and was keeping everyone up to date.

Carlin taking pictures with her mom in the Hospital doesn’t seem like the best way and her post is lazy. I’m sorry. I said it.
