Hello! Sorry to bother you, but I was looking for a fanfic that I read and loved a while back, but can't seem to find anymore. It was a FitzSimmons!Emma AU (as in, Jane Austen's Emma). Does it ring any bell?

normally, I am absolutely the worst person to ask this kind of question, but! this one time, I actually know exactly what you’re talking about!

as part of a fanwork exchange/partnership last year, I made an AU gifset for @msdevindanielle‘s excellent fanfic Jemma! I’m very much hoping that she one day finishes it, as the source is one of my favorite stories (and the 1996 movie version from which I made the gifset has my favorite incarnation of Mr. Knightley!). :-)

I’m pretty terrible at keeping track of my recs ngl, but here goes.

PS - I’ve also narrowed it down to ones that focus on their relationship, though I also tend to read and write a LOT about one or the other of them as a focus with each other or the team and so forth.

Meet Cute: A Team Engineering Writing Project - Fitz and Simmons are actors playing ‘themselves’ on a TV series where basically, each week they get together in a different scenario. I thought it was very creative, a lot of fun, and an excellent example of how fab fandom can be. What a great collab!!

Splinter by @msdevindanielle - Set during early S2 this weaves together some of FS’s angstiest times with Academy bonding and idk I just really liked how it got at the depth of their friendship and what they had lost, but it’s quite hopeful in the end. I also liked the style, just how it was written. I read this one ages back so sorry if I’m being vague but it comes to mind every time I’m asked for a FitzSimmons rec so it must be good.

and here’s where I devolve into straight-up shameless cheating because I’m more of a “lots of short fics” kind of gal so while many of them SLAY me it’s hard to keep track of them all!! some of my (many!) fave authors for FS are @agentverbivore (if you’re into that ‘completed multichaps’ kinda thing, or multichaps in general), @the-nerdy-stjarna (SO MUCH CONTENT if you want a particular trope or a mood or oneshot or multichap or whatever Sanna has it. probably has 5 of it. honestly I can’t keep up with all the FS goodness she produces but goodness it is!!), and @agentcalliope, who also writes a lot of platonic goodness but that’s a whole OTHER shameless pile of author recs :P which reminds me she’s just published a new one, I should get onto that!

Top 5 by me (if I do say so myself)

Love is Not an Eight Letter Word - set during the S3/4 hiatus, Jemma realises she is aromantic and comes out to Fitz, and their relationship adjusts. This was a really meaningful fic to write and has got some absolutely beautiful feedback, particularly from people who ID as aro and/or headcanon Jemma as such.

What We Make - set after S4, before/ignoring S5, FitzSimmons are spending some time at the Simmons’ family estate to recover from their hard year. It’s hurt/comforty and fluffy and I really enjoyed writing it after what was a particularly brutal season for these two, especially Fitz.

(Let Me Stand) Next To Your Fire - This one has been a challenge in terms of the logistics, and I put a lot of thought into it, but I did that because I love the concept but wanted to make sure it was handled well. Jemma experiences a bizarre magic/science accident that leaves her blind and in these first chapters she comes to terms with the aftermath of the attack and her blindness itself. Moving forward I’ll continue to explore her adjusting to life blind, and also the ramifications of the attack on her health and potential powers (dun dun DUNN)

Spearmint - short, sweet, and underrated this is a fluffy fic again set at the end of S4, but reflecting on the Academy era and their early relationship; a story of FitzSimmons through three spearmint milkshakes. also features a lowkey appearance of trans!Fitz which is a headcanon I love very much <3

Running Up That Hill - one of my first FS fics, and first AOS fics, but still quite good and I’m quite proud of it. It has a special place in my heart even though it doesn’t get a lot of attention these days. 1x22/S2 Role Reversal.

do you know someone who also every clothes that skye/daisy in every season?

Unfortunately, no. I don’t think think there’s anyone out there who obsessively gets as much clothes as they can from their favorite AoS character to the extent I do, except for maybe Brian, otherwise known as coulsonandkids on Twitter and Instagram. He, obviously, does Coulson and he’s a really good one too. Devin (msdevindanielle) has a lot of Jemma clothes too, but I can’t think of anyone who does it for Daisy.

A little bit of Team B love

Okay so I posted this once already, but I’m gonna try one more time because all the tags were screwed up.

So it’s late and I’m sitting here thinking about how much I love this fandom and the people I’ve gotten to get to know. Soooo I’m just gonna try + put what I’m thinking into some words.

First of all: I LOVE EVERYONE ON @teambiochem WITH MY WHOLE HEART even if we’ve never talked- even if you don’t create much, or at all, and especially if you’re feeling a bit inadequate seeing all these works of art and writing go up. YOUR PRESENCE AS PART OF THIS TEAM AND THIS FANDOM IS SO VALUED & APPRECIATED!!

I’m so thankful to be a part of a group that is more people-oriented than points-oriented because at the end of the day, this is a game (a game that we wanna win nonetheless) but what really matters is the connections and community formed along the way; and I can see that happening already.

@somethingmarvelous Anna!!! You’ve been such an amazing team-member this year and last year and I’m so thankful to have been able to work with you. I always look forward to chatting with you on Taco Tuesdays, (and our secretary esp is pretty sick too) and your enthusiasm for creating fun activities for us all is very admirable. @agentcalliope Casey, even though you haven’t been as active this year as last year, the impression you’ve made on me hasn’t faded. when i first started trying out poetry and posting it, you’re comments and prompts were cherished so much and were a big part of why I continue to write. AoS Rewatch Positivity Chain

And I’m all caught up! WOO! Here are my thoughts on the last three episodes of season one. I was tagged again by @accio-the-force! Thanks girl! Now that I’m caught up, I’m gonna tag some people. How about some biochem babes?

These last three episodes are just painful, and this one just gets to me. FS are so positive in trying to make the team feel better. They were gonna make pancakes! But alas, they were gonna find out eventually. I especially love the scene where Fitz figures it out through the picture and Jemma finds Koenig’s body. It’s such a well drawn out scene and the reveal that “Ward is Hydra” was stunning. Of course, the scene where Fitz breaks down and starts throwing things is just heartbreaking. And it’s so much more painful to watch now that we know more about Fitz’s history with betrayal.

Even though this episode has some really devastating scenes, they were still able to mix in some humor for FS, especially Fitz. I loved them helping Coulson and May go in undercover and how they helped them along over comms. It felt like some great parents/kids bonding moment, and their dynamic was hilarious. And the part where Fitz says Jemma is the best listener UGH. The best. But of course this is AoS, so there’s always trouble quite literally around the corner. And that ending scene where Fitz is pleading with Ward to do the right thing and let them go - it just kills me. He’s so sure that he can convince him because of everything they’ve been through together as a team, which is what makes it even more heartbreaking. And that ending shot of Ward watching the pod detach is just haunting.

Onto the finale! Oh boy, there’s not much else I can say that hasn’t already been said by this fandom, but the one thing I always wonder is what’s going through Fitz’s mind when Jemma is still passed out on the floor. The amount of times he’s had to worry about her life continues to skyrocket, and now that she’s laying there after he saved their lives by strapping them in before they hit the bottom of the ocean, he’s probably thinking about how there’s no way out of this. And eventually she’s going to wake up and he’s gonna have to tell her. ugh.

It’s also interesting that all this happens in the first half of the episode. Fury rescues them at the near halfway mark, so they only get three fairly short scenes to portray their entire storyline for the episode. And it’s amazing how brilliantly they pull that off. Each little scene is so integral to the story, and they go through so many emotions in such a short amount of time. 

First there’s fear - they’re at the bottom of the ocean with no way out, so they’re probably going to die down there. Then there’s hope - it starts with the hope that death will bring new life to the world, so it’s not going to be that bad. But then it changes to the hope that they can actually make it out of the pod and survive. But of course, it ends with devastation - there’s only enough oxygen for one breath, not two. He’s her best friend in the world, but she’s more than that. And he didn’t know how to tell her, but now all he can do is show her. It’s shocking, and heartbreaking, but they’re running out of time. So all he can do is push the power button. And all she can do is try to save his life. 

And she does.

Hello EvB participants!

We bring you the moment you’ve all been waiting for... the unveiling of the team rosters! Under the cut below you will find the line up for Team Engineering and Team Biochem.

I tried to take into account your preferences, but unfortunately balancing the teams came above all. Luckily, we are blessed with a friendly, welcoming fandom so both teams should be a lot of fun!

The challenge is running a little differently this year, so that’s why there’s not a separate team post for each. That will come late once things start officially. 

Tomorrow, votes for each team leader will go up. After you’ve selected your team leader and I’ve gotten to plan with them (I’ll be working very closely with each team leader this year), Engineering vs. Biochem will officially launch on July 10th. That’s when you’ll be added to the spreadsheets, get the official point rules, etc. There will be official team rosters posted from each blog then so you can reblog and rep your team with pride!
