Dear Gus & Magnus,
When Gus left the Museum of Discovery yesterday afternoon, he said he had spots on his legs. Mom and I looked at them and decided he was having some kind of reaction, but it hadn't shown up on his face and he said he felt normal, so we decided to give him some Benadryl and keep an eye on it. This morning, though, he woke me up and said he didn't feel normal. It had spread to his face and mouth, so Mom took him to the emergency department (which is apparently the new name for the emergency room). Diagnosis: Erythema multiforme, possibly caused by the strep he had a couple of weeks ago, or another virus, or the antibiotic he took for strep, or few other things, but it shouldn't cause any respiratory problems. The doctor put him on a steroid and said he could go back to camp, but he wanted to stay home with Mom. I would have too.
The whole experience reminded me of when he had a similar reaction as a baby.
Monkel and Will joined us for steaks on our porch, then the three of us went to Riverdale Theater to watch The 'Vous, a documentary about The Rendezvous in Memphis. Bryan was the film's director of photography. A solid night.
Dad.

Immunotherapies like PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors and CAR-T cell therapy show promise in clinical trials, offering a potential breakthrough.
2. Advancements in Tumor-Treating Fields (TTF) Technology
TTF therapy, such as Optune®, has revolutionized GBM treatment, prolonging survival by disrupting tumor cell division.
Non-invasive and combinational approaches are being explored to enhance TTF effectiveness.
3. Expanding Research in Gene Therapy and Oncolytic Viruses
CRISPR-based gene editing and viral vector therapies are under investigation to target GBM at the molecular level.
Oncolytic viruses like DNX-2401 are being tested for their ability to selectively destroy tumor cells while stimulating the immune system.
4. Increase in Clinical Trials and Drug Development
Pharmaceutical and biotech companies are investing heavily in clinical trials for novel GBM drugs and combination therapies.
Precision medicine and biomarker-driven treatment strategies are improving patient selection and therapy response.
5. Growing Use of AI in Drug Discovery and Treatment Personalization

Exploring Glioblastoma Multiforme Treatment Market : Trends and Future Outlook
The global glioblastoma multiforme treatment market size is expected to reach USD 5.10 billion by 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. It is expected to expand at a CAGR of 9.7% from 2023 to 2030. The market is driven by the rising prevalence of the disease and increasing approval for novel therapy and combination therapy.
In recent years, the industry has been growing rapidly owing to the introduction of innovative products and rising interest of major pharmaceutical companies in the market due to favorable guidelines and rising incidence of the disease. For instance, companies such as Bristol Myers Squibb; CNS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Bayer have novel products in the pipeline for glioblastoma multiforme. These products are likely to boost competitive rivalry in the market in the coming years.
Moreover, companies are collaborating to develop novel treatments. For instance, in October 2019, Advaxis, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced a research collaboration agreement with the University of California for the development and commercialization of novel immunotherapy by using the company’s Lm Technology in mouse tumor models of glioblastoma multiforme. An increase in collaborations between researchers and market players is expected to boost the development of novel and effective treatment options for glioblastoma multiforme.
Existing companies are willing to acquire new companies with pipeline products to diversify their product portfolio. For instance, in May 2019, Merck announced the upfront USD 1.1 billion acquisition of Peloton Therapeutics, which grants it access to the PT2977 under trial glioblastoma drug. This acquisition is likely to strengthen its pipeline and improve its future revenue-generation ability.

Nor was Rothko's attraction to these medieval prototypes limited to their formal qualities; their propulsive narrative came into play as well. In that same rich essay of 1947, he stated:
I think of my pictures as dramas; the shapes in the pictures are the performers. They have been created from the need for a group of actors who are able to move dramatically and execute gestures without shame.
Actors typically perform before a backdrop. A few years after the appearance of Primeval Landscape, Rothko embarked on a series of larger canvases he dubbed his 'Multiforms', of which the 1947 No. 21/Untitled is an excellent representative example. The operation he performed on his Mozarabic schema essentially consisted in bringing its background forward into the active role, while the foreground creatures that dominated a work like Primeval Landscape recede into flickering, marginal visibility. In effect, his backgrounds had ingested them, multiplied, and become active rather than passive. Rothko finds himself caught for a time in an oscillation between these poles of emphatic shapes and emphatic contours, survivals of a figure-ground pictorial syntax. A work like Untitled (Multiform) of 1948 reverts to the drawing of outlines, though these now tend to resemble haloes more than confining edges. This device, however, points toward the next plateau in this development: Rothko's mature format had to contain both qualities in tense but roughly equal balance, that is, the consolidation of these somewhat placeless and slack shapes—neither taut in their geometry nor truly unconfined—into larger forms by in effect sliding them one behind the other, lending them a depth that no single color arc or shape could exhibit on its own. The large upper rectangle in No.7/No. 11 of 1949, predominantly pale green, suspends itself like a veil over a darker patch of almost indeterminate hue. The lower half of the canvas, however, still retains the busier proliferation of actors, even if they are more obediently stacked in parallel to one another and to the dominant rectangle above.

hi welcome to my thoughts
today marks the one year anniversary of your emergency craniotomy. the day i found out that, no, it’s not just a hole in your head. it is a glioblastoma multiforme. and it will ruin your body, spirit, and soul for the next 9 months until it eventually takes your life in a nursing home. alone. no one around you. and your husband is so fucked in the head by your sudden death that he takes it out on the resident nurses that were charged with your care that night, and not on the incredibly aggressive tumor that had quickly been sucking the life from your body and spunk from your personality until you were nothing but a shell to the world and to the people you cared about the most.
the tumor attacked on December 1st, and continued to attack despite the radiation , despite the chemo, and despite the fight you so surely held together for so long. it chipped away at you like stone. you inevitably caved in to the carving, regardless of its malevolent intentions. i miss you everyday. there isn’t one day where i don’t think of you, or see your face. i hear your favorite quips like a rundown cable tv box. i don’t care. i want it endlessly. “trixx are for kids, you’re a chip off the old brick”. i miss you. i love you. i hope you’re at peace.

You say the headaches are worse? Just more frequent. I don't know about worse. But no lack of balance, dizziness, uh, vomiting? Not yet. (...) I'm not telling you anything that I didn't already tell you nine months ago. With this aggressive form of glioblastoma multiforme, the risks of surgery or radiation are… they outweigh the benefits. Yeah, no, I know. I'm just, uh… just looking for a little relief. I will up the dosage of your medication. I will continue with regular MRIs to assess the progression of the tumor. But I don't think we can tell... [speaks indistinctly]
