Assorted Pantheon thoughts

Just recently finished watching the show and wanted to put my thoughts down somewhere, full spoilers under the cut

Going to be forever salty with how poorly this series was treated by AMC, between being stuck on their shitty streaming service and being written off for tax purposes

Overall I think the first season is a bit stronger than the second, the emotional hook of Maddie's relation with her dad was amazing and I don't think the second season was able to get something quite as compelling

that said I do think it was the right call to kill off David at the end of the first season

In general I feel the first two episodes are an incredible start

One of the best complements I can give to the first two episodes is that they were able to get my mom who never watches animated stuff like this onboard with the show

Chanda's uploading scene was disturbing in the best way possible

I really liked Chanda's role in the first season even when he turns in an antagonist you can understand his logic and motivations

Unfortunately he felt underutilized in season 2

Wonder if Chanda and the others could have fought Holstrom alongside Caspian, they could still have the same fate but it would make them feel like they have more of a contribution instead of something that needs to be gotten out of the way before the main event

The direction of the show was consistently amazing, a few moments that stood out to me was Chanda looping the virtual office, Laurie's message getting cut off transitioning to the credits of episode 7, Caspian exploring Yair's removed memories, and Maddie with all the simulated realities in dyson sphere

In general I feel like they did I good job making the digital world feel different from the real world with the editing, the more actiony fight scenes for the uploaded characters, and the more crazy digital character designs both before and after the 20 year time skip

In particular I like how the fight at the end of season one looked with Chanda and David modifying their appearances, exemplified that the feeling of difference between the worlds really well

Caspian's fake abusive family was really interesting to watch play out over the first half of season 1 and the reveal of him being a clone felt shocking yet makes perfect sense

really liked the unstated horror that Hanna/Rachel was probably going to be killed to push Caspian

Middle of season two felt maybe a little formulaic, with them trying to find a UI that would be the right one to cure over several episodes

That said I feel the ideas they explored with the various UI's where really interesting so I don't think its that big of an issue

From what I understand the show was always meant to be two seasons and the cancellation did not effect that, but I really wish the last two episodes could have been a whole season, there is so much interesting stuff going on there

Though I am impressed how much they managed to fit in those two episodes, in particular I liked seeing what Maddie was doing over the 20 years

Really wish we could have gotten a scene of Maddie deciding to upload if nothing else

definitely plan to rewatch the show at some point to see what I catch on a second go around

it might sound like I am being a bit more negative on season two, but I still really enjoyed it, and it got me thinking a lot, especially the last two episodes

Overall I would give it a 9/10

(shamelessly stole these screenshots from this post) but so does this mean fp has other siblings besides void and clover? 'most of' implies to me that At Least One of their siblings was activated at this point, but if their only siblings were void and clover that wouldn't be Most Of them still asleep, that'd be Half Of. or it’d make more sense to say ‘one of’ my siblings is still asleep

also if it was one of the two we know of, who do we think was the sibling who was awake? I would think clover since it theyre the same model and they’ve been likened as twins, it’d make sense to me with fp being friend_program01 then clover would be friend_program02, but being robots, being made/activated in relation to one another doesn’t have much bearing on their ‘age’ im pretty sure. like clover could’ve been activated years later but would still be fp’s twin based on being technologically related and the same model. (also it’d be a little funny to me that the one who’s awake is Clover but the one who’s asleep is the one who’s Lucky. heehee)

it’s entirely likely void hadn’t even been built yet and clover was asleep and the sibling(s) who was awake was neither of them. another Earlier-in-the-game-than-this⬆️-one game over report says they made a new model so it wouldn’t make the same mistakes fp did, probably being the first of the newer models like void is but not about void specifically

(the rest of these⬇️ screenshots are from the official playthrough here) also something I guess I’m just not sure of, did fp know clover was their sibling before clover discovered it themself when they were both on automatic mode? we know clover and void didn’t know Beforehand

since void says they Had family, ofc talking abt fp, but it sounds to me they’re implying fp was their only family. and clover straight up says they’ve never had a sibling. and then fp says this⬇️ abt clover

(and then void shows up, implying that They were that one sibling they liked)

I don’t really have a point to all of this. I just think it’s interesting that fp seems to know all of this and just kept it to themself. I’m pretty sure since they're stated to be loveless they’re implied to be afamilial and thats why, but still.

also I find it funny void and clover never put together that since they’re both siblings with fp they’d be siblings with each other. it just never comes up HDHSJSNDJ

I don't know if you're still working on the new long star au. But since we've learned about the kittypet dark forest, what would a kittypet heaven look like?

I HAVE talked about this previously BUT let's make it its own post with some additions.

THE KITTYPET AFTERLIFE

Often referred to as the Twoleg Starplace, kittypets go to the same afterlife as their owners. There’s always food out, the toys are endless, and just about every twoleg wants to pet you. If their twoleg was abusive, kittypets will find a new loving twoleg to pet them and help them heal.

But it's so much more than that, as Dastardly Dan and his victorious rebels. So much more...

The second Dastardly Dan passes through to freedom, the filth of the dark places evaporates off of him like morning dew. The rebels are in a twoleg den, a nearby door letting the most delicious smells wafting through. He lets out a startled cry as his feet meet soft indoor carpet, not the sticky floors and splintered planks he's walked for ages. He hears a twoleg call out in joy, and a pair of black cats burst from the group and leap into the arms of a twoleg kit, yowling in joy. The rest of the former Dark Place dwellers scatter to the wind - one molly crying out to her long lost kits and wailing in relief when they respond, a tom bowled over by his mate, another cat finding the food bowl full of freshly laid out cat food - and Dan just freezes. He was an awful cat, and his guilt weighs him down like a stone in his belly.

Steps far too heavy to be a cat make him whip around - it's an elderly twoleg, Sweet Pea and Nanigans weaving around her legs. The twolegs crouches down and extends a hand. It's okay, says Sweet Pea, this is my twoleg! Dan slowly accepts the hand, and before he quite realizes what happened, he's tucked into a soft bed, with fresh fish on a plate and his thirst quenched. I could get used to this he thinks, and eats.

...Dare I give Ed more health problems to deal with?

Thinking about Ed and how he feels about starting a family of his own. He's absolutely terrified of having a kid, because he would have no idea what to do with it and he's afraid that he'll repeat the cycle of abuse, that he's just like his own father despite his best efforts.

And yet there is also a part of him, deep down that wants to give a kid the happy, carefree childhood he never had, to give a kid the unconditional love that his father never gave him.

Which makes me wonder how he would feel if he discovered he can't have kids? Maybe relieved at first, but then I think there would be some grief that he doesn't get that choice.

One possible situation relating to this, though I don't know if I'll ever make it canon and I suspect it would only come up in RP on Ed's other blog, is making him intersex (which variation, IDK). I can certainly see Dillinger Sr. having the doctors altering him as a child to make him the 'perfect son' Sr. had hoped for, and this would certainly lend into how Sr. sees Ed as a disappointment of a son and how Ed feels about Sr. as an adult.

On the other end of the spectrum of scenarios, I can see a situation where Sr. mentions grandchildren once, and Ed goes 'Absolutely the fuck not' and gets a vasectomy.

...IDK. Again, I'm not sure that I'll make any of this canon, it's currently just stray thoughts, and there are few enough situations where it would ever become relevant.

Somewhat angsty void walker au

So Xisuma is born a void walker, not something you'd want to be born as, there's a lot of people out there that want void walker's abilities to walk in-between the worlds/servers/dimensions/what not

But Xisuma is a lost void walker, everything shifts and moves around in the void and he doesn't know where home is anymore

He's met a couple other void walkers and learned how to stay alive and stay away from people but other void walkers tended to put themselves first regardless of what it did to others

So Xisuma somehow ends up on the server, the other members are nice even if he's not too sure how to interact with them just yet, being friendly but keeping them away

It's probably the longest he's ever stayed in one place, with the same people, he freaks out a little when he's realized he's grown attached to them and doesn't want to leave

He freaks out more when he realizes that he's fallen for Etho, enjoying spending time with the fox hybrid and wanting something closer than friendship with him

They're laying on the kitchen floor of his base one night, not really talking about anything in particular when Xisuma feels brave enough to tell Etho a little about himself, it ends up that he shares a little more than he originally intended about what it's like to be a void walker

What it's like to not even trust your own shadow

But Etho sympathizes, he listens to what Xisuma rambles about and Xisuma tells him just how much that means to him

Etho has a soft, fond, look in his eyes when Xisuma tells him that

Xisuma doesn't need to look anymore, he's found his home
