Joker x reader Shepard headcanons

He has noticed how much you frequent the Normandy bridge despite not having any tasks there

As a commander, your position is in the cushy back with caption Anderson in the com room or in front of the holographic space map.

And yet here you are, standing next to his pilot chair and refusing to take Kaidan's seat next to him.

At first he did think he was in trouble, did the captain send you to spy on him perhaps?

But with time, he started warming up to you, getting less defensive about talking about his past.

You laugh at his jokes, even the awkward bad ones get at least a chuckle or a smile out of you. He wonders is he should go check with the medic on why his heart had been beating faster than normal these days.

Although he does thank the stars for the fact you keep standing behind his chair rather than next to him, with the way your armour hugs your body, he would've crashed the Normandy into a stray astroide or something by now.

It's...lovely, having a friend. He is used to short encounters with people, for them to laugh at his jokes then shake their head and walk away.

But you've stayed with him on the helm, stayed even when the jokes ran out and even when the ache of his legs started souring his mood.

He hates asking for help, hates people looking at him with pity.

But you didn't. You kept a casual air around you as you handed him the painkillers and started chatting about a random topic you wanted his opinions on.

Although, your presence has been getting the helm of the ship more visitors than usual. Ashley dropping by to hand you a cold drink, Kaidan coming around to check on the navigators, a duty he usually ignores.

Tali stopping by to speak her theories and ask Joker for his insight, Liara following along and having their ideas bounce off each other.

Wrex who silently stays by your side, polishing his shotgun and never saying another word. Yet sometimes Joker swears he can hear his deep chuckles at a stray pun he just said to you.

Garrus follows after Wrex with his inquires about your next mission, asking for permission to run inventory and check your weapons.

Joker has never had these many people coming by, even if it's for you, they still talk to him.

He has a friend group, something he never thought he'd have. They invite him for drinks and share the shore team inside jokes with him.

And it's all because of you being patient with him, because of the way you stayed by his side.

Your presence starts to warm his heart, he finds himself involuntarily smiling whenever he hears the sounds of your footsteps approaching him.

Not to mention, you let him gossip about Nihlus with you as much as he wants. Even when you end up reprimanding him for going off about your spectres mentor.

He likes the passing touches you give him, be it ruffling his hair fondly or a reassuring grip on his shoulder.

Your voice is soothing too, time flies by whenever he's listening to you talk as he steers the ship.

It was a gradual build up to the day he eventually made a half-joking remark about how you spend so much time with him, the two of you might as well start dating.

Masking his nervousness with humour as he kept his eyes focused ahead, wondering if the stretched seconds of silence are building up for a rejection he will have to face.

But instead, it's your reassuring grip again. Trailing up his neck from his shoulder and caressing his face.

"I'd really like that" you admit.

Were you annoyed by Bel Anoleis in ME1? Well, my Shepard as well and they decided to teach him some respect. In the enjoyable way.

I've been consumed by this thought for the last few days, realizing that Emma has just the right amount of 'boyish' charm and masculine demeanor that I've always envisioned Shepard having as a butch lesbian. Her main faceclaim (Antje Traue) is way more feminine than Shepard ever would be, even though their faces match pretty well (also, Antje is hardly in anything and it's hard to get source material that matches for the above reason). Emma is also currently 32, which is fitting for Shepard's canon age in ME3, whereas Antje is now older into her 40s.

Anyway, I threw this together based on a previous edit with Shepard's scars included. I had to darken their hair and eyebrows a bit, but their faces really line up, especially the Nose™:

Zaeed Massani above all else was always going to be a Merc. He’d made it his job, carved it out in others blood, tamed it in his own, and kept to it like there was nothing else in the galaxy that could satisfy him. He’s done everything and anything… but it’s times like this where he seriously begins to contemplate just fucking retiring rather than putting up with any of this bullshit.

It’s like these people don’t think he wouldn’t know a bad job until it bit him in the ass.

He glares down at the datapad that’s been handed to him, a faint sneer pulling at his lips in disgust as he reads exactly what his client wants.

A kidnapping job. Or as it’s been so nicely written, a “Retrieval” mission. Not exactly something new or extraordinary in his line of work. He’s done jobs like this a dozen times over. So really it’s not the basic terms of the job that are the problem but the target that has him wondering if this slimy fucker really thinks Zaeed is that stupid.

“You want me to go after Commander Shepard.” He doesn’t make it a question because the contract itself is pretty fucking clear. They want him to go after the most fucking dangerous individual in the entire fucking Galaxy. The person whose got several bounties and about a dozen life sentences on their head. Whose leash had been held tight by Alliance Military and the Council until they’d cut themself free in a bloody display of power.

Commander Shepard is a name that’s whispered in fear by the powerful and in awe by every single lowlife thug in the galaxy. And this fucker here wants to hire him to kidnap the Commander Fucking Shepard like it should be the easiest thing in the Galaxy.

It would be one thing if it was a hit. That he would at least have a fucking chance in hell of maybe accomplishing (and shit maybe he’d survive it too) but fucking kidnapping?

He’d rather eat his own goddamn gun than deal with the absolute nightmare that would entail trying to hold them down long enough to deliver them back into his clients hands.

“You don’t think you can handle it?” The Illusive Man himself huffs softly, bringing a cigarette up to his lips and inhaling it like he didn’t just ask Zaeed to go on a suicide run. He’s had to have already gone through a list of Mercs before he got to Zaeed because Zaeed’s good but he’s nowhere near the best.

The best just so happens to be the target the Illusive Man is pointing him towards.

For the Shepard/Garrus/Tali ship, I am counting it as both F/F and F/M. So Sapphic ships are 60.7%, Straight ships are 28.5%, Achillian ships are 7.1%, and Non-Binary ships are 7.1%. Of the twenty-eight ships, twenty-five are monogamous while three are polyamorous, so 89.2% monogamous to 10.7% polyamorous. Math is fun!

Jack relationship headcanons

The first time she saw you, you were covered in blood from your rampage through the purgatory.

And the first time she looked at you differently, was when she was covered in the blood of the biotic she murderer in her childhood room.

You were like a storm coming to her life, whilst others tiptoed through her minefields and mazes, you set off and pushed as much of her buttons as you could.

Tearing down her walls mercilessly, leaving her dumbfounded and confused by someone for the first time in her life.

Like an unstoppable force, you've pulled every trick in the book to use on why she should open up the doors of her heart to you. Be it abusing your authority as a commander to ask about her past or bringing up the fact it is your own ship, the one she's lodging at.

Bit by bit, you've cornered her until she had no choice but to crack down and pour all of her heartache out. Expose her weakness and let herself be vulnerable.

Waiting for the knife in the back that never came.

"Know what? I like that. I piss and moan, and you say grow the fuck up. That victim garbage, it's half me. I think I get that"

She's tough, stronger than the rest. She could handle your dismissive tones, she could take your intimidating presence and still stand tall.

You've never seen her flinch or stutter no matter how close the calls of death skirted by, no matter how much your eyes pulsed red.

The two of you feeding into each other endlessly, telling the other to stop rolling the bullshit mud, to get up and face the world.

Maybe that's why Kelly's therapy never worked for her, she needed someone like her to understand her heart.

A cold blooded killer, you were perfect.

None of that psychology bullshit, none of the pills or meds or stupid journals and meditations where the voices in her head would swarm her.

You understood her, you knew how hard it is and you told her very well how much she needs to get stronger and stop whining about it, stop living in the past.

Never gentle, always slamming her face first into the hard hitting truth, the one thing no one else but you dared to do.

And she found herself appreciating it. The chance to release her emotions with guns and screams, to bandage her heart with the blood of others, to not have to constantly look behind her back.

You didn't use her for her powers, you were already strong enough. Far stronger than the rest of the crew combined maybe.

And you didn't use her for sex either. She grew to respect you. Look at you as a person rather than a piece of meat for her to claw in bed, then discard.

By your side, she feels undefeatable, unafraid, and ready to tear everyone in your way apart.

It's a constant game of tug and pull between you two, a constant struggle for power where one tries to come on top of the other.

Be it in the sheets or in the battlefield, Jack is always keeping score, always taunting you for falling behind just so she gets to witness your wrath first hand.

And maybe, she might actually have been serious about her offer to go rogue with you. Steal the ship and become your best mate and executioner.

She thought she was the deranged crazy bitch in this relationship, but sometimes you really claim that title for yourself. You're weird, in a way that both gets her off and puts her on edge.

"Good thing the mission is suicide. I guess everything works out"

Even Hell Dogs Love Christmas (WIP)

NB: This is actually getting to be long, so I'm splitting up this part into two.

Part 9.1: In which TIM talks Shep into a walk (Part 8) (Part 1)

Shepard looked at him, skepticism writ clear on her features. “Here?” she looked around at the balcony.

He didn’t even try to hide his amusement. “There’s a garden on the rooftop,” he explained.

Shepard blinked. Her eyes shifted to Kasumi who… appeared to be grinning at her mischievously. She looked back at The Illusive Man. “Um,” she said. She paused. “Okay, sure. Why not. It’s to be better than staying here.” She snapped her mouth shut once her brain caught up to what she had said and blushed a little.

He ignored her verbal misstep, a.k.a. her rudeness and gestured for her to follow. As she did so and they began to walk away, she heard Grunt trying and failing at whispering to Kasumi, “What just happened?”

They didn’t stick around to hear Kasumi’s explanation, though honestly she was a lot better at being quiet than Grunt was and they probably wouldn’t have heard her reply anyway.

Knots started forming in Shepard’s stomach as they walked in silence to the elevator. She didn’t really think her interpersonal skills were up for this.

At the garden, he offered her his arm but she laughed and asked what year he thought this was. He shrugged in response but the small smile he unexpectedly wore told Shepard he was amused rather than offended by her reaction.

At first they walked in silence. Shepard was a ball of tension and he… well, she didn’t know what he was feeling. Or thinking. After a bit, she spotted an opening at the railing, perfectly designed to allow people to stop and admire the view.

He continued to follow in silence and stood slightly back as she braced herself against the railing and stared out at the city. After a moment she let out a long breath, and he could see that she was also letting go of some of her tension. He took a step forwards, towards her.

Shepard looked up at him and he stopped. She turned and leaned against the railing so she could face him properly. “So tell me why,” she said.

“Why what, Shepard?” he asked as he took another step towards her.

She shrugged. “You can almost take your pick,” she began. “Why do you keep seeking me out? Why the accommodations for my non-human crew? Why are we here now, together? And while we’re at it, why not toss in why you don’t have a real name?”

He took another step towards her and eased himself into standing next to her at the railing, but while she looked into the garden, he looked outwards, over the city.

“Shepard, you should know that advocating for humanity, wanting what’s best for humanity doesn’t require despising aliens. Surely you’ve learned that from your own crew?”

“I’ve heard a lot of things from a lot of people. I haven’t heard yet how Cerberus is any different from Terra Firma.”

He looked skeptically at her. Or maybe that was annoyance. “Have you paid any attention to the dossiers we gave you? That I gave you? How many humans on that list?”

She scoffed. “It’s a suicide mission. Why not take advantage to kill a few aliens while accomplishing your goal?”

His eyes flashed angrily. “Do you really think I spent enough to raise a small army on bringing you back just to let you die on me? Do you think I’m a fool who can’t manage his resources?”

She paused and looked away. When she didn’t reply, he continued, “You, Shepard, are the only one who can take that ship through that relay and come home again. I have no doubts.”

“Oh,” she said at last.

“Indeed,” he said, the mockery in his tone was harsh, and she felt the inherent chastisement.

Silence fell between them as they both fought to regain their equanimity.

Shepard’s voice was small and more vulnerability came through than she wanted when she asked, “You really believe we’ll make it back?”

He glanced at her before looking away again. “Of course I do.”

“I wouldn’t have guessed that was true,” she admitted.

“It took two years and four billion credits to bring you back to life, Shepard,” he said wryly.

“That’s insane,” she said.

He looked directly at her. “Are you really complaining?” Now he was amused again.

She shook her head. “Doesn’t make it any less insane,” she replied.

“Maybe,” he said, “but it worked. Shall we continue?”

“Oh, yeah. Of course,” Shepard said somewhat sheepishly.

They walked onwards and he could feel Shepard relaxing as they walked. “You really don’t well in these settings do you?” he asked.

She chuckled. “That obvious?”

He looked at her in disbelief. “Shepard. You were hiding.”

“Oh, yeah,” she said with a chuckle. “Yeah, you’re right. I really, really don’t.”

He shook his head. "A woman as good at leading people on impossible missions? You're not giving yourself enough credit."

She laughed lightly. "That's almost exactly what Miranda said earlier," she told him.

He didn't reply, but she glanced over and saw him smiling. He saw the confusion in her eyes but ignored it in favor of walking on.
