Yep, can relate. I go between feeling like a woman and feeling agender, but god forbid as an afab person on the ninbinary spectrum I should paint my nails, have long hair or love having boobs. Apparently, because I am sometimes agender, I should take on a more androgynous or masculine look and hate on my feminine features. But I so love dressing feminine now since it's my choice and not my mother forcing me into a dress because “that's what girls wear to church”.

I know SEVERAL afab nonbinary people who, as soon as they came out as nonbinary - immediately began dressing in ridiculous hyper-femme outfits they never would have worn before.  A lot of people see this and say shit like “Theyfab” or say they are only nonbinary for attention.  After all, look how femme they are.

But to me, this makes perfect sense.  When you are forced into the category of “woman” against your will, femininity is a chore.  It’s a job that you have.  As soon as you say no, I’m not a woman, suddenly femininity isn’t your job anymore.  It’s not a requirement.  It’s just a fun hobby you can get into.  Or a little treat sometimes.

I love this so much.

So I always looked at the micro labels as boxes, that hold pieces of me, but not all off me. So I have my transfem ninbinary box. I have my demi-sexual and demi-romantic boxes. It helps me break myself down and examine myself more deeply. But I don't stay in those boxes. I have other boxes. Other micro labels. Wife. Friend. Neighbor. Daughter. Etc. To stick to only a handful of boxes would deny the rest of me. Staying alone in my transfem nonbinary box, though it is true to me, denies me the relationships and solidarity with other trans women. Because I still fit in that box too. That label is still true to me.

"i hate microlabels" yeah i also kind of dislike the idea of putting ourselves and our identities into very specific boxes, i think it can be really isolating- ohh wait you mean you think they're invalid. ohh no that's not the way to look at it. killing you
