On the Animation of the Inorganic discussing Alfred Kubin's novel The Other Side in the chapter "Malicious Houses". One of my favorite paragraphs of the entire book with it's discussion of the "dark language of houses" seen in this little strange corner of Modernist writing and art.

I'm sure this would mortify the author, but the idea of buildings wresting agency for themselves, often to the detriment of their inhabitants and human neighbors is hot. No other way to put it.

[In Meyrink the houses speak with a "suspicious, malicious grudging," but the things they say are what one fundamentally refuses to hear: "You're not done with us yet; you belong to us; we don't desire your happiness; happiness doesn't go with this house". (41) Although the houses' speech seems to be the sign of their malevolent omnipotence, in fact, it is nothing more than the mixed mumbling--curses and sighs--of their downfall. In the finale of Kubin's urban anti-utopia, temples and houses "clambered on top of one another" are heard to "utter strange words in a horribly loud rasping tone--a dark, incomprehensible language of houses." (42) While ostensibly attached to ancient doctrines of architecture parlante, Kubin's and Meyrink's constant noises announce the immolation and rebirth of an autonomously animated architecture. This building for is essentially mute--no more "whistling" or "grinning"; nevertheless, it is an architecture of "full speech" emptied of all anthromorphic chatter. END ID]

re the chart really im more a non-anthropomorphicfucker in general than a robotfucker like the wires specifically etc arent the appeal for me its something else, robots just often fall under this. a ghost or living object or sentient weapon character etc etc hits the same notes for me

I sometimes think about the Phaeacian ships (also sometimes called Scherian ships) from The Odyssey (or at least Homer's telling of that story). Mythological ships that were able to be steered by thought alone and needed no pilot (and if I remember also no crew for the most part). You just told it where you wanted to go and it would navigate itself and be the fastest ship in the planet as it does so.

There is very little information about them as they are only mentioned as the plot device to get Odysseus finally home, and were destroyed by Poseidon for helping Odysseus, but I do sometimes wonder how damn good actual IRL Scherian ships were and how fine their sailors were for Homer to attribute semi-sentient and swift status onto their ships. I wish there were more myths about them.

I don't have a copy of The Odyssey anymore so the best I can do is a quote from Wikipedia:

so like tumblr is sentient right? thats pretty well established that tumblr makes stuff up right? cause like it gossips about u (posts drafts randomly) and sometimes just hallucinates and has seizures (ui weirdness, broken notes, stuff i dunno bout yet). staff is keeping the tumbl server as a fucked up science experiment. thats why this platform is so unprofitable

Just curious as to why hardware gore is a tag in the 3ds community? I'd never really seen it before but my working theory is that it's for objectums/posics who want to filter it? No hate at all just curious :)

MAKING AN OBJECTUM CHARACTER/HEADCANON

Objectum is the orientation where you have attraction towards objects! It's the umbrella- with several more specific groups- like techum. Not all may have a specific or -um name

Cars, plushies, planes, computers, vehicles, pool floats, and guns/weapons are the more common ones I see floating around

But don't let that limit you! If it's an object, you can have a character attracted to it. You could go for buildings, landmarks, industrial machinery, or even concepts (that one having a specific name of conceptum or conceptum objectum)

Questions to ask when working on the character!

How does the attraction go for your character? Is it purely sexual? Romantic? Both? Does it vary? Is it something more in theory? Platonic? What other orientations does your character have and how does it interact?

Does your character see the object as inanimate? Do they anthropomorphise it? Do they see the object as living?

Related to above- is your character only attracted to objects that can interact with them? Like not caring for the truly inanimate, but would be into a mecha? How does this work? What's their limit? Does it need to have a face? For the object to be able to move?

What is the object of their desire? (hehe), rarely if ever do i see objectums into every object. Do they like tech? Mech? Concepts? Plushies? Toys? How does it mix and match? Do they have a theme of what they go for? Are they attracted to just one specific perhaps personal object? What do they like!

To keep in mind (nuance nuance do whatever you want forever everything can have reasons and contexts)

-Avoid having the character say how lonely and desperate they are- it can work before they figure themselves out sure- but objectum is it's own sexuality. People are attracted to objects, it shouldn't be shown as some last resort oh I'm so pathetic and can't get it for an objectum character- what im trying to say is- have them WANT this!

--As above, avoid saying that the objectum character is only doing this or only like this because they can't get a person. We're making them objectum, they're attracted to objects, they want an object!

-Yes, you can have an objectum into cars work as a mechanic without implying they're fucking the customer's cars. That's like having a doctor fuck every patient- sure- it could be a thing- but it shouldn't be the inherent

-My personal pet peeve, so I had to cut this section down a bit. But you do not! Have to compare the object or the feeling of it to a person! It can just feel like what it is! Heck- delve into the details of it being distinctly different from a human that's attractive. The motorcycle does not have to feel like the touch of a woman. Holds out my paw

-Have the objectum character attracted to objects. That's want this all boils down to. Please. Please. Have them actually into objects

This is kinda me rambling so anyone feel free to add on or point out anything I missed!
