noel's route is done... two down, two to go

#sorry for making you all wait 500 years. i have problems #i have lea's and clem's left. lea's i think will be the easiest (it's the one changing the least) but clem's will be the hardest lol #they have the most variation due to the earlier conversation where they try to offer you their deal #every1 else is quite linear. these branches exist to establish worldbuilding and give u insight into whichever character you choose #plus building mc's personality stats with lots of dialogue choices (and romance. if u so choose)#it's just that clem's relationship branches earlier than the others. lea's happens in their branch/before duncan's intro #(and then branches even more later)#whereas noel's doesn't really branch until the end of ch3 after the fight in blackwater #merry's will branch at the end of this chapter (with smaller branches happening earlier if u go with her during the day)#all of them will change at the end of ch3 too depending on how the fight goes. yayyy i love interactive narratives #*says through gritted teeth with tears in my eyes*

Obviously a language arts curriculum should take into account the students’ existing skills and interests, but some people’s critiques are just “I did not like the book I was assigned, which means that most people hated it and it was objectively a bad choice” or “I don’t like to read at all and I think it’s stupid that kids are sometimes asked to read in school.” Every student enjoying every book is not a feasible goal! I loved language arts/English most of the time, and I fucking hated Walden.

#also the older you are the more eye-roll-inducing the complaints are #if you’re in college doing that shit…#I knew one guy in a nineteenth-century literature class #(not even an intro level course)#who would not stop running his mouth about how much he hated sense and sensibility #sorry the professor isn’t entertaining you sufficiently!#personally I got tired of the lopsided number of major male vs major female characters #in the books we read k-12 #but that was never going to be addressed #also the suppposedly universally hated books #vary a lot in terms of difficulty and age and diversity

netflix one piece live action feels a little like fanfic in that it makes sure it hits all the important notes but doesnt do all the work to make them hit which works in fic where the reader is supposed to bring all the emotional story investment from the original but doesnt work in a multi million adaptation that is supposed to be able to stand on its own or even serve as an intro to the series. it even does this in service to have more koby and helmeppo gay moments in this essay i w

#unfortunately i think i've hit a point where the script that i've written so far is so horribly optimized #that it might be in my best interest to erase and redo everything after the intro sequence #BUT the actual game mechanics are all fully functional now so I'd have more of a foundation to build off of the second time around :D #which should theoretically make things go a lot smoother in the long run #i put off the evidence log mechanic for so long bc i was terrified of having to troubleshoot but it actually ended up being super easy lmao #it's basically a reskin of the character profiles mechanic i'd put together earlier on #just formatted slightly differently #there is ONE more thing I'd like to add #and that's just a more simplified method of calling the screens for the point n click segments #which i'm like 95% sure is doable but I'm too sleepy to figure it out rn

idk if there's anything in stories i get more petty about than poorly-written "main character shows up to a new place and meets everyone" character introduction scenes

#personal #they make me SO ANGRY ahglkmsfkl #it isnt just the trope of showing up and meeting everyone either #like it works for me in some things!#i think pacific rim does a really good job with characterization for example #and it's got a sequence of scenes where raleigh arrives and the audience is introduced to the shatterdome & important characters basically #my working theory until i do some more analysis is that stories that do it well leave some mystery #like in pacrim you don't find out mako's whole deal immediately upon meeting her #pentecost doesnt go ''this is mako mori. one of our brightest. her whole family was killed by a kaiju and she wants to be a pilot''#he says she's in charge of the mk 3 restoration program #and she doesn't immediately offer up her backstory because why would she. real people dont do that #the russian pilots dont show up and go ''hello we are russian''. pentecost just tells raleigh briefly who they are #etc. newt & hermann's intro scene is one of my favourite bits of characterization Ever and you don't learn that much about hermann during i #all the info you get is from newt being chatty and ridiculous and mocking hermann and putting his foot in his mouth. i.e. newt being newt #and that's what makes it good!#when chuck and herc are introduced you learn absolutely nothing about chuck. hes just there in the background #he and raleigh look at each other for a second and you kinda go ''who's that guy''#AND THATS ENOUGH TO ESTABLISH HIM AS ''PROBABLY IMPORTANT LATER''#idk idk but so many books do this kind of scene so badly that it pisses me off #so many POPULAR books too. like i either am uniquely annoyed about this or other people are way more willing to overlook it lol #as far as examples go. the house in the cerulean sea and every heart a doorway were the books where i got so annoyed i immediately DNFed #i feel like the long way to a small angry planet does it a little bit but not as bad. i cant remember for sure it's been a while #i did finish that one but i had extremely mixed feelings about it #and now im reading a big ship at the edge of the universe and. once again it is happening #aaaargh

laswell is able to find out hassan’s in mexico and working with the cartel bc of her friendship with price and gaz, who are already in amsterdam. they’re able to get the jump on him and find out about him shipping the missiles over the atlantic bc of her friendship with alejandro. price and gaz are able to fly to al mazrah in time to intercept aq bc of price’s friendship with nik and they’re able to get laswell back bc of their friendship with farah. soap makes it through las almas and eventually kills hassan in chicago bc he successfully befriended ghost, who stayed behind at his own risk and kept giving him advice he wasn’t required to give

the real treasure was literally the friendships they made along the way

#i didnt expect friendship to be such a core theme in call of duty of all things yet here we are #and its even a personal character arc for ghost #he goes from literally being alone in the games intro to having a team named after him #a team that he trusts with his face #from being so obviously unhappy at having to work with soap to opening up and letting himself get closer to him #and even to a lesser extent alejandro and graves #just to be betrayed by graves #his utter panic at seeing soap injured after being so annoyed by him in al mazrah just hits so hard #and going back to his old behaviour and leaving soap behind just to feel guilty and stay to help him get out is just 🤌🏻#letting soap lead him through the cameras is an olive branch and apology all in one #just him going i trust you to get me through this alive just like you trusted me #like i shouldve trusted you in las almas #just dozens of tiny moments that all boil down to friendship and trust and shepherd only seeing enemies completely blinds him #and ultimately leads to his downfall #‘we dont bury each other do we’ thats the throughline of the entire campaign #even graves not trusting his shadows enough to tell them theyre transporting missiles #maybe if they knew that theydve been more cautious and not been caught off guard by the russians #and hassan never wouldve gotten his hands on them #coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt #call of duty #cod mw2 #simon ghost riley #ghost cod #ghost mw2 #soap mactavish #soap mw2 #soapghost #general shepherd #kate laswell #we’re a team. ghost team

See the mental unwellness in me is telling me that I should combine all the reading guides for the Young Justice crew together to get the true full YJ reading order, but I feel like that would just immediately become overwhelming. But I might do it anyway lmao.
