baking never feels more like science to me than when i'm trying to cobble together an intricate multi step recipe together from several different recipes and tutorials online because the recipe I'm imagining doesn't exist....
#genuinely feels like a science experiment making something fancier than a frosted layer cake#have to do all kinds of volume and weight conversions because one recipe is japanese and the other is indian and the other is english lmfao#none of the recipes are probably the exact volume I need so i might have to make some minis with my extra stuff#i have to find a very precise sheet pan size tomorrow for the patterned cake i'm gonna use as the outer bit#otherwise i'll have to make my own from parchment paper??? or tin foil??? man idk.....#i had to write out all of my instructions and ingredient lists so i don't have to go between 6 different websites tomorrow/sat#i had to do research on fucking. gelatine 😭because it's impossible to find gelatine sheets here and they're used in EVERY mousse recipe#and there's apparently a huge debate on what the ACTUAL conversion of sheet gelatine to powdered gelatine is for baking#I also had to type up like an exact order to make each component because most need a significant amount of cooling time#grayson im gonna try my hardest to make you this fancy ass lemon cake and i pray i succeed this time where i failed on my own birthday#2 yrs ago but also i think this will go better bc i'm not doing a jelly insert or a candied mirror glaze#I'm also making my own candied lemons and lemon curd even though i don't have to#mostly because i wanna try doing it and the sheer power of getting to say i made the whole thing from scratch *#minus the actual cake mix because i don't have a good from scratch cake track record and box mixes are so so reliable#and i have too many moving parts to worry about finding a new cake recipe#every fucking cake recipe now is a fucking genoise sponge for SOME REASON#which is NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT AND A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS BECAUSE IT USES NO RISING AGENTS#i want to throttle whoever it was that made online recipe people turn to only using variations of a genoise sponge for their cake recipes#honestly i need to maybe join the baking subreddit and ask for some good old baking/cookbooks with reliable baking recipes#ones that aren't crazy labor intensive for fucks sake i'm not a french patisserie#my stuff#it would be cool to one day have baked enough and have enough know how of how standard baking recipe components work#so i can just come up with my own recipes on my own#and just use whatever flavors i want#i feel like i would enjoy being a baker except if i had to make wedding cakes

I’m being THAT person rn because it bothers me lmao. VENT POST BTW.
Steam usage is a fire benders trait. It’s not actually a water benders trait.
“Are you fucking stupid you shit head?!” You say kindly <3
No, because my defence. There are 4 people we see using steam, Zuko, Iroh, Roku and Sozin. Zuko is first seen using it to get himself free from Katara’s ice in the northern siege, blowing the steam out of his nose. The 2nd time is from Iroh. When Iroh was taken hostage by earth kingdom guards, he makes a commotion before blowing steam out his nose onto the cuffs he wears. The 3rd time we see steam usage is when avatar Roku trying to cool down the volcano by using a steam release to reduce pressure. The 4th user soon after Roku in the same episode also doing the same is Sozin, also using a similar technique to help reduce pressure from the volcano.
What do they all have in common?
Their all fire benders.
-
Well then what about the water, dipshit?! Another person asks nicely <3
From what we see from water benders is fog, haze or mist. A water benders trait. These usages reflect from real world things. Like how we see in cold early mornings from a hot morning sun on large body’s of water. The heat and sudden cold creates heavy Vapor or fog or mist or a haze due to vaporisation.
Even swamp benders, another water user type mention fog. Even Wan Shi Tong says himself that he knows the same style.
If steam was a water benders style, imagine how horrific and painful being caught in that “fog”. Imagine the episode where Aang wakes back up from being in a coma, Katara having to use a heavy fog to go under cover, image that fog BEING BOILING HOT AS STEAM. She could possibly burn herself and others on the same boat alive… steam isn’t a joke. Steam is dangerous just as much as fire. It’s a terrible burning feeling if you’ve ever been burnt by it, but hey, what do I know? I’m just a random right? (Yes, I have been burnt by it. It fucking sucks. It’s painful af.) Just yeah, steam has a burning trait. It makes more sense as a fire benders trait.
-
Yes I know of fanarts and such. I’m ok with it, I genuinely love seeing peoples creations and them having fun. It’s just I wish people what take note to on details on what the show, shows us. Attention to detail. It’s just sometimes the fandom things make no sense to me at all and seeing a mass following on the bandwagon… it just feels weird. I do apologise for venting and what I say, I just wanted to share my thoughts on what I’ve picked up from watching the show many of times and from studying Zuko for something to do. Once again, I apologise if this offends anyone.
In my house, steam is a fire benders skill tree. Not water. And no one can’t and can not change my mind.

The Dark Picture ~ Origins of the Ink Demon : Operation Drawcia Pt. 24 ~
[Inside Lain Iwakura's computer]
Solva : So this must be her computer. We gotta find the main source of whoever is linking with this data.
Lain A.I. : Beware any presence, and always remember check your password.
Solva : Relax, kid. I'm only social media, I got nothing prove useful to play computer games on the computer. But master told me that we mustn't share his master computer, it's highly secured and it can be only used once if give us permission to use it.
Lain A.I. : Personally, this is highly unstable to find that situation going on. Get a load of this.
Solva : What are you trying to see? (gasps in shock)
[Unrest - Hidenori Shoji]
Solva : What are heartless doing inside of your company? That's why you've been acting so strange?
Lain A.I. : Negative, I believe they're leaking some information about the Ink Demon's past, if they collect data from mine and Deathscythe's, Duo's robot will die.
Solva : Wait, Duo? That guy who pilots a giant robot, you creator is working with that Gundam Pilot. He's the star of smash-hit TV series Gundam Wing that Master Grim watched, you knew about this guy?
Lain A.I. : She was my creator's...well, umm, husbando for no reason, he's actually trying to take down some heartless who wanted to end DWMA, but he was wounded during battle with the Wired he just defeated and this Darkside Death heartless attempted to steal his heart and souls, so my creator rescued him in favor of saving his life. Trust, I won't forget that and I will always look after him.
Solva : Sounds like you saved someone's life after his original robot was obliterated in the show, So where did you kept Deathscythe Hell hidden, the upgraded version of his robot? Just don't forget, you had him at the facility on the east coast of Japan.
Lain A.I. : Thank you very much, Solva. I won't forget that.
Solva : You and your creator saved his life and he saved yours. Now then let's give these heartless to show them we mean business!
Lain A.I. : Right. I needed a weapon to come up with the solution. But I gained data to copy it.
[Cyber - Kenichi Tokoi, Fumie Kumatani]
Lain A.I. : Here goes. (uses Duo's data to create a replica of scythe)
Solva : Woah! You can copy data from others? No wait, share data with others! That's a pretty cool trick!
Lain A.I. : Hmph, precisely.
*SLASHING*
*DBZ SFX : SLICE*
Lain A.I : Huh, now you know why I was prepared to fight in Cyberspace.
Solva : HEY, WHAT PART ABOUT SHARING DATA WITH OTHERS I SAID, NOT COPY ONE'S DATA THAT ARE WEAPONS! Oh well, I guess it's double or nothing. You win some, you lose some.
*KICK*
Neoshadow : Ha! A little kid who uses data from others? She just another little pipsqueak to dealt with, I can take care of this harmless little...*SHING* !?
Lain A.I. : You were saying?
*DBZ SFX : SLASH+SLICE*
Neoshadow : (deathly grunts)
Lain A.I. : Nice try, but it'll take three seconds to take all on you down, but it's gonna be five seconds to start running before I'm gonna cut all of your damn heads off!
Solva : Okay, I think I'm getting this somewhere, but that's how you wanna play, (creates a scythe using data) I'll play it for you, real hard!
Lain A.I. : You ready to kick some heartless butt?
Solva : I am! It's about to get serious!
*DBZ SFX : SLASHING*
Solva : Ha! I never expected from a Cyberpunk girl, you a girl from the 90s ain't that different at all, I bet your creator had some mad skills to create you! Can you expose the truth about the secrets behind Soul Eater?
Lain A.I. : I would definitely expose Soul Eater's secrets, trying to leak into information to uncover the truth.
Solva : That's exactly what I was thinking! Anyway let's kill these bastards, with style!
"One hour of battling the heartless later..."
Solva : We gotta ditch these losers! There has to be a way to get there safely!
Lain A.I. : I hope you're guess is good as mine, Battling a bunch of heartless would be a waste of time, Time to activate denfesive barriers! (activates a barrier to surround the heartless, trapping them)
Solva : Smart thinking, kid! You sure got a defensive type in your system, kid?
Lain A.I. : Trust me, they won't last any seconds. They'll die by burning firewalls.
Solva : Firewalls? Are they really that strong, the heartless could be viruses, but when did you activate the Antivirus softwate?
Lain A.I. : I am an AI created by the same girl, but all of our copies of our selves.
Solva : Ehh, what? (solva is surrounded by a an army of Lain A.I.s)
Lain A.I. Clone : Hiya! (waving at Solva "hello?)
Solva : Heh. You never imagined, I was hoping that these guys were gonna go easy on a kid like you, but...not anymore.
Tron : Need any assistence for you, I could really use a help.
Solva : Look who it is, you're that Tron guy.
Tron : Why don't we team up with a third person to require any assistance? After all, we're programs destined to protect Data.
Lain A.I. : Looks you sure have good timing, of course I require any assistance, really would like a help with you!
Neoshadow : You two! I'm tired of playing games with a bunch little pipsqueaks like you all the time! Now then, I'm gonna go make you obsolete when I open a file of whoop-ass on the both of you!
(Tron throws his disc weapon to attack the heartless)
Neoshadow : !? (disappears)
Solva : That's a "Can of Whoop-ass" to you.
Lain A.I. : Hmph, they don't scare me, I scare them a lot too, you know. Nobody messes a little lady like me, I'm always one step closer to defend Duo's machine!
Sora : Tron!
Tron : Sora! Sorry you're a bit little late!
Sora : Easy time, easy doesn't. I'm Sora, you must be the girl working for the reaper. (firmly shake hands with Solva)
Solva : Solva, girl who works with Seto and primetime apprentice of Master Grim the Hedgehog.
Lain A.I. : And I am an A.I. of my creator, Lain Iwakura.
Sora : So I see you got on the same foot as always, just don't forget, I'm not the only kid whoever knows about hearts, but So do you, you help Seto to make herself the newly elected Shinigami. Seto, is one genius and she's a great athletic girl. You used to go the same school as you do back in our daily lives of school before we even dropped out.
Solva : I usually to be at school with Seto, even though we usually come on the same school-terms. Such as daily news read. I even think about originated from the Needless universe before Seto and I were isekai'd into Real World AU.
Sora : Really? That's great news to hear! Hear this in the game!
Solva : Yeah.
Neoshadow : You'll regret this, Girlie! Die now, p*ssy!
(A neoshadow attempts to assassinate her, but a FOmar kills it behind)
Solva : Woah! That dodged a bullet, I'm seeing things or I'm looking a randomly person in front of us?
Sora : Uhh, thanks?
Calus : No need to thank me, but I do appreciate your kind.
Sora : Gee. We would likely to know about you stranger, the name's Sora and what you're name?
Solva : Uhh, guys. I think I know who that is...
Lain AI : Oh no...Calus.
Solva : Calus? Calus who?
"Calus : FOmar of the Cybernetic World."
Calus : Perhaps I would do the talking for you. Where is Elly?
Solva : Elly? As in Elly the FOnewearl, she retired that class and had to go on to be a mission operator to EP2. I hate to break it to ya, but Elly's just--
*rumbling*
Calus : No! You give me Elly, now!
Solva : Okay! Okay! Please, don't do that anymore! Are you trying to kill us!? Elly Person's coming to meet you at Gal Da Val islands, but I believe that a girl named Maka is coming to the central Control tower to meet her sister! She's dealing with some kind of machine that no one would beat it!
Calus : Wise decision, I'll meet with that girl outside this cybernetic prison of mine. Show me the way.

Tomorrow I will have been in fandom for thirty years.
I can mark the anniversary very precisely because I know the name of the first fanfic I ever read, which is fortunately archived online along with the date it was posted, the same day I read it. I don't believe Usenet exists anymore and I've been here too long to believe that nothing ever disappears off the internet, so I know that archives are truly a gift to history.
I posted my first fanfic not that long after. It wasn't well-written but reading it today I can see that the narrative was sound. People said they liked it, which was kind given how extremely bad my grammar was. I was an awkward teenager with undiagnosed ADHD and praise was rare for me, but when I wrote fanfic someone always said something kind about it. Eventually a few of them took me under their wing and explained things like "where quotation marks go" and "paragraph breaks". Commas, I fear, are a lost cause even today, but they tried, bless them.
I thought about doing something big to commemorate the anniversary, but I couldn't really think what I might do and the world right now is pretty exhausting. I'm forty five and I'm tired. But imagine how much more exhausting the world would be without fandom -- how much emptier my life would be without my friends, this community, the writing I do, the art and beauty fandom exposes me to. So for now I'm just meditating on that a bit -- the richness of the experience, the gifts I've been fortunate to receive, the lessons I've been fortunate (if sometimes reluctant) to learn.
In another thirty years I'll be seventy five, if I live so long. Thirty years ago we didn't in any meaningful sense have digital cameras, let alone cellphones or smartphones, social media, streaming television, GPS. I did a report on the science of cloning for my high school biology class (on the suggestion of a fellow fan) a year before Dolly was cloned. I wrote my first fanfic using a computer running Windows version 3.1. I wrote it in Notepad, still a constant companion.
I hope I live to seventy five. As tired as I am, I'm looking forward to seeing where the next thirty years will take us.
I hope Notepad will still be there.

A trio of business analysts at Duke University has found that people who use AI apps at work are perceived by their colleagues as less diligent, lazier and less competent than those who do not use them. In their study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Jessica Reif, Richard Larrick and Jack Soll carried out four online experiments asking 4,400 participants to imagine they were in scenarios in which some workers used AI and some did not, and how they viewed themselves or others working under such circumstances.

How an Online Science Lab Helps Students Conduct Safe Experiments at Home
Tumblr media
The advancement of digital learning tools has transformed science education, allowing students to conduct experiments safely from home. One of the most significant innovations in this space is the Online Science Lab, which enables learners to explore scientific concepts through virtual simulations. These platforms eliminate safety risks while providing a hands-on approach to experimentation, making them an excellent alternative to traditional labs.
The Benefits of an Online Science Lab
An Online Science Lab allows students to perform experiments without requiring expensive lab equipment or specialized materials. By using interactive simulations, they can test scientific theories, manipulate variables, and observe real-time results. This approach not only enhances understanding but also provides a safe learning environment where mistakes become valuable learning opportunities rather than safety hazards.
Virtual labs also offer flexibility, enabling students to repeat experiments multiple times at their own pace. Whether studying physics, chemistry, or biology, learners can explore different scientific principles without time constraints, making it an effective tool for both self-paced learning and classroom instruction.
Exploring Physics with Virtual Experiments
Physics often requires practical demonstrations to fully grasp complex theories. A great example is Young’s Double Slit Experiment, which demonstrates the wave nature of light through an interference pattern. Traditionally, this experiment requires precise equipment, but with virtual simulations, students can easily manipulate factors such as slit width, wavelength, and screen distance to observe the resulting changes in the interference pattern.
Using a virtual version of Young’s Double Slit Experiment, students can experiment with different conditions and see how light behaves under various circumstances. This hands-on approach helps reinforce theoretical concepts while making abstract principles more tangible and accessible.
Understanding Material Properties Through Simulations
In physics and engineering, studying the mechanical properties of materials is essential. One crucial property is the modulus of rigidity, which measures a material's resistance to deformation under shear stress. Traditionally, determining this value requires specialized lab equipment, but virtual tools now make it possible for students to explore this concept safely from home.
Through an interactive simulation, students can apply different amounts of force to various materials and observe how they respond. This allows them to understand how the modulus of rigidity differs for substances like steel, rubber, or glass. By analyzing these behaviors in a virtual environment, students gain a deeper understanding of material strength and flexibility without needing a physical lab setup.
Conclusion
The introduction of an Online Science Lab has revolutionized science education by making experiments more accessible, safe, and interactive. From studying light behavior in Young’s Double Slit Experiment to exploring material properties like the modulus of rigidity, these virtual platforms provide students with valuable learning experiences without the constraints of traditional labs. As technology continues to evolve, virtual labs will play an increasingly vital role in scientific education, making hands-on learning possible for students everywhere.
