i hope you didn't miss me too much~ tis i, ever-sparkling sylvie, gracing your inbox at a timely twelve am! at least, in my timezone. please don't worry about my sleep schedule. i find myself awake during these hours a lot of the time. i hope you're enjoying whatever hour it is where you are ♪

i really did mean to hop in at least once in the past, what, twenty-four hours? but whenever it passed my mind it slipped right out and i'd totally forget. but now i've remembered, yay!

i'd just like to tell you that i suddenly got hit with a burst of inspiraton and creative clarity? it's CRAZY. i was thinking about one of my fic projects, kind of just twirling the characters around in my head—a more graceful interpretation of rotating them as if in a microwave—and it kind of just...came to me. and i kept on thinking, kept mentally writing, telling myself, oh, this is really good, until it came to the point where i thought: man. do i have to ground this somewhere.

i don't know if anyone other than myself does this, but i like to look up locations that pop up in my stories that i haven't personally been to, or just pull inspiration from real places that have found their way into the file cabinet labeled 'inspiration' in my heart. to me, it grounds the scene and gives my concepts a backgrop. and what i was struck with, then, was good enough to be grounded. so i started looking at airbnbs in seoul! (some context: fic is set in korea; character a is visiting & character b is based in kr; scene is about cooking; story has more of a homey feel so i'd rather have this & other important scenes take place in a proper house rather than, like, a kitchenette hotel.) and oh my goodness. within a minute i'd found the most beautiful house... it's clean, white, and with wooden accents. not the most cozy, per se, but definitely serene. and it has the most lush, peaceful back garden. i fell in love! truly, i fell in love. i can't wait to write this scene. but first, i felt the need to tell you the good news, because it'd been an unintentionally long while since i'd last reached out & i wanted to compensate. i know a day or so isn't so long, but i really did mean to reach out to you during that time. lol.

i hope you, too, are struck with the inspiration, motivation, and energy i have! in all honesty i've been having a rough patch so i feel as if this came to save my day. i hope that today, something saves your day, at least a little. my apologies for going on such a long tangent about myself. thank you for entertaining me! i hope my message comes as a sweet surprise to you, in the same way my muse so kindly came to me.

as i'm writing this, it's creeping up on 2am. that's not weird for me tho i stay up this late all the time during summer. dw abt not popping in!! i am the most forgetful person like ever lmaoaoao so i get it

that's really good to hear!! it's always great when inspiration strikes like that :3 i've heard some of my other writer friends look places up to help with their stories. personally i tend to just make stuff up when i write but i totally understand how basing it on a real place could really help with being able to visualize it!!

i haven't had anything massive that's "saved my day" or anything, but i have had a handful of really nice interactions with my friends over the past couple of days :D and that's really all i can hope for yk?

I've seen the headcanon that Lucanis' mother, Caterina's perfect heir, was actually similar to Illario in some ways. That she was calculating, ruthless, ambitious, obedient... all the things Caterina overlooks in Illario because Caterina sees her favourite daughter's deep brown eyes and quiet, controlled demeanor and careful planning in Lucanis.

But I am also attached to the idea that the opposite is true too. That Illario's mother shared similarities with Lucanis; that she was empathetic and stubborn, with a slight rebellious streak. But she was always outgoing and charming, was more impulsive with her emotions, and was always sharper with her tongue than with a sword, so Caterina only sees her in Illario.

I just love the idea that Caterina can't look beyond the surface and see who her grandsons really are because on some level she can't see past the ghosts reflected in their eyes. She can't see that the quiet brown eyed boy is is more of the gentle hearted rebel, and the one with blue eyes and a shining, fake smile is the ruthless leader who would do anything she asked.

taking in elgar'nan and solas' view of ghilan'nain vs how she presents herself is so,, okay.

in one of the memory scenes we see, solas refers to her as "the most sensitive of us." in a letter written to ghilan'nain, he claims that she has some moral standing that she is sacrificing for her love to andruil- just as he did for mythal. solas and ghilan'nain clearly knew each other prior to both of these interactions and potentially even knew each other very well, but!

ghilan'nain denies his claims in her letter back to him. she says she is doing this of her own will and that andruil is supporting her want for more magical ability, not that andruil is pressuring her or she is sacrificing something for this. yet. in the same letter she says she could not make something like the halla again. not that she did not want to, but that she couldn't. something has changed that is preventing her from being able to.

thanks to two seperate codex entires, we know that elgar'nan has insisted that ghilan'nain needs to take time to mourn andruil, implies that she has a soft spot for the halla after she vists them, and makes active efforts to try and "cheer her up" after the loss of razikale. he clearly expects ghilan'nain to need some sort of emotional care/recuperation after losing her lover and archdemon, but what does she say in response?

she holds no fondness for the halla, her interest is purely to investigate how they have changed. (she is grimly pleased when the venatori killing halla are slain.) she does not need to mourn andruil, for andruil has been remembered in this new world as being fierce and swift. (she will build a monument for her once they have won). she does not need time. there is work to be done.

(in contrast she DOES mourn razikale quite openly. or rather, she rages over her death and vows revenge while onscreen, while elgar'nan describes her as being listless in his own written accounts.)

idk!!! just the way solas and elgar'nan insist that there is something more to her and the way ghilan'nain shuts it down to try and seem in control of her situation and emotions is soo,, shaking her in my brain

Fun fact I didn't know until I started researching for this: apparently when someone looses an eye, it's possible that the other eye adapts. This is not good in the beginning as the remaining eye stops working for a while (???!). While long term it's not as noticeable (just less field of vision and some problems with depth perception sometimes) it's, uh... interesting :,D

Correct me if I'm wrong about this tho. I did my research, but sometimes there's misinformation out there so don't trust it 100% without checking it first.

"animus" in its original context has two major definitions; "animosity/hatred," and "the intention and motivation to do something."

Superficially, the word also sounds similar to the word "animate."

All this to say, what if, instead of Animus magic being simply saying "do x when y," the Animus must instead ingrain their intent into an object as they craft it.

A toymaker drafting, piecing, and stitching together a plush for a child, every mark and cut and stitch imbued with love and care and warmth. And when that child receives their new toy, overjoyed and vibrating with excitement, It feels it too. So loved and with so much love to give, as long as its child holds it close, they will never come to harm.

Or maybe an outcast, desperate to be someone, anyone but themself. So they carve a new face, imperfect and misshapen, but enough. They dream of everything they could be while they carve, the dragon they desperately want to be, until one day, when its done, they dont have to pretend anymore.

EHEHEH!!! Thank you for asking!!!! :D I freaking love asks.... So for your question! I tend to change up my headcanons depending on what story I'm writing, so I'll just answer this for How To: Gaster specifically, I suppose?

Underfell Gaster Headcanons:

He's not actually related to Sans or Papyrus at all.

He's a dickwad, and harsh, and spits insults and threats at anything that moves...

He also tosses bread and scraps to the skeleton orphans when he passes them on the streets simply because he doesn't need the trash anymore, okay?!

...He remembers a time when the world wasn't so cruel. When he would have taken in those skeleton children in a soulbeat.

He upends his garbage can over Sans's and Papyrus's head sometimes. (It's nobody's business if that trash can has some gold and a few papers advertising under the table jobs that need someone scrappy to work for them, and very little actual trash.)

(It's also nobody's business if he threatens said places that if a small skeleton shows up, they will hire him.)

As soon as Sans looks old enough to ditch his stripes, Gaster yoinks him off the streets and glares at him as he sets him in the lab. "WELL? GET TO WORK! I DON'T KEEP TRASH EMPLOYED."

(Sans is not, in fact, old enough to remove his stripes, but no one else needs to know that.)(Gaster knows.)(The entire lab knows.)

(None of them say anything.)

Those that work at the labs are off limits to other monsters. Everyone knows Gaster will be pissed if something happens to one of his employees or their families, because he despises inefficiency. And Gaster is not a monster to get on the bad side of.

No one mentions anything about the small area in Gaster's office that's set up with a few desks and education materials that are much too entry level for anyone that should be working at the lab—elementary school level, really.

No one mentions Papyrus showing up when Sans works.

Gaster will spit insults at Sans and Papyrus, but he also makes sure that if Sans is coming in in threadbare clothing, or the boys are looking a bit dim from lack of food, that Sans gets a raise. They live much better than orphans should, really. (It's still not enough. But it's as much as anyone can have in this fucked up reality)

Gaster is harsh to his employees, but he does still praise them in a standoffish way when they preform well. Positive reinforcement is scientifically proven to be important, after all. He's not particularly kind about his praise, and much of it is backhanded, but he still gives it.

He refuses to admit how much he loves that Sans pokes fun at him and teases him. And his heart certainly does not melt when Sans drags Papyrus in on their lunch break if Gaster hasn't stopped to eat yet. He's quite annoyed by how Sans won't leave until Gaster eats too, in fact. (He's not)

When Papyrus is a bit too bright and optimistic, a large part of Gaster wants to scream and clock him on the skull and hide him away because he's going to get himself killed.

He can't. Every time he'll meet Sans's sockets—too young, too tired, too jaded, and yet still not scolding his brother—and clam up. If anyone else in the lab tries to harass Papyrus or Sans, Gaster will simply yell and threaten them about something unrelated until they shut up.

(The lab is a haven of safety. The employees love Gaster for it. They also have a soft spot for the boys. In a way, they're a community, committing the treason of caring for these children instead of killing them.)

(They're harsh and sometimes cruel, but Gaster does not tolerate dust being spilled in his lab for any reason. Arguments must be taken outside. And really... none of them care to take those arguments outside.)

Gaster is thrilled by how intelligent both the boys are, and he can't really hide it. The children are brilliant, and Sans has moved onto graduate level texts while he's still young enough to be in stripes, technically. Papyrus isn't far behind.

Gaster is the only one Sans trusts to babysit Papyrus.

Gaster loves babysitting Papyrus. (even if none of them call it that)

Gaster starts to melt behind closed doors when it's simply him and the boys. His insults falter. His digs lack the barbs they once had. The praise softens and becomes more commonplace.

(Gaster is one of the reasons Papyrus learns kindness.)

Gaster starts to clean out his apartment and reevaluate if he has the space for three. He knows its dangerous—that being claimed by him would put a target on the children's heads... but he can protect them, can't he?

Perhaps. Just maybe. There's a possibility. That Gaster is planning on asking Sans and Papyrus if they want a place to stay—with him.

...But you know how the story goes from here, I imagine. Just when he's trying to gather himself to ask, he falls into the CORE.

And he shatters.

(this isn't going to be coherent at all and for that I am so sorry. let's blame it on it being 1 am almost 2 am and not on me generally being incoherent)

the thing is, right, they never technically 'hard launched'. even though they've confirmed and flaunted their relationship a thousand times in a thousand different ways, and every video feels more and more like we're intruding on a private moment, they've never outright said it without some semblance of plausible deniability/ a joke ("husbands, business partners, [...] soul mates, just mates, who the fuck knows") Like that is reality. It's why we have the joke about their ability to toe the line so closely but somehow never actually cross it.

But then you have "Six months of being an uncle" and "You must be be so proud" and it's like... sure the reality is they never confirmed their relationship (and one could argue those captions are the Hard Launch) but that's not as important as showing Dan the love they have for him, publicly supporting him and claiming him as part of their family. Like 'who cares what you have or haven't said about your attachment to him, what matters is WE love you and it's even more important that you KNOW we love you like a brother.'

and of course this is just approaching it from a familial kind of love coming from the Lesters, a romantic perspective from Phil himself is another ballpark entirely. But that boils down to 'logistically there are easier ways to live but the love we have is more important so we will stubbornly continue this way until it all works out the way we want it to' (and then it did. against all odds, it did.)
