Woag it's slab system time!!

Some basic info; we all know Etho (he/him) whose been around the longest, Logo (it/its) who joined during season 3 a bit after Etho did, and Patho (they/them) who joined during season 6 while still trapped in the jungle

People who know about the slab system: Xisuma, Bdubs, Beef, Doc, Impulse

People who have a hunch: Cub, Ren, Gem, Tango, Hypno

People who don't know: Those not listed. Etho. Patho.

Xisuma found out during a code check after Etho was retrieved from the jungle. Bdubs, Beef, and Doc all gradually figured it out over time (mostly encountering Patho), but chose not to bring it up as Etho seems to get uncomfortable about it. Impulse realized somewhere between season 3 and 4 when Etho wouldn’t remember their interactions half the time (he had been meeting with Logo). He was the first to learn about the system, but because he hadn’t known Etho that long, he wasn’t sure if it would be rude to bring it up and was under the impression that the admins already knew.

Similar to Impulse, Hypno often encounters Logo, but hasn't put everything together himself because “Humans are just so goddam weird.” He knows something’s there, just not quite what (or I should say who). Cub found Etho ‘sleepwalking’ (ie Logo taking a midnight stroll) and took it back to base, to which Logo commented on his situation with the skulk in a totally non-threatening manner before giving the front back to Etho. Etho, who had no recollection of how he got into Cubs base, was unable to give any explanation and left. Cub was not able to sleep for several nights after. Gem and Tango both met Patho when they woke up and ‘tried to escape the jungle’ and nearly ran off the server. The two ended up having to fight them for a bit, but eventually Etho started to wake up and Patho was forced to back off. Tango has been around long enough to believe that there might be a system, but doesn't want to assume. Gem took notice of the different fighting techniques between Etho and Patho, so she made a mental note to look into it later.

Etho has no idea. He usually doesn’t remember when the others front, and when he does just shrugs and brushes it off. ‘Well that was weird and out of character… Time to make tnt :)’ Genuinely oblivious. Things are very similar with Patho in that regard. They don’t front often and so things are often fuzzy and memories feel more like dreams and vice versa - they honestly still think they're in the jungle most of the time and nothing is real. Logo, on the other hand, is very aware of the others. It doesn’t talk much and is a big fan of Minding Its Own Business, but does enjoy hanging out with the voidlings.

But while 2/3 don't know about the others, they still have very fun effects on each other;

It’s a normal day in the offices. Actors getting ready for shooting stuff, the Hermitcraft Recap going over previous week stuff, MCNN scrambling to get ready for next life season, Bdubs doing his daily Etho worshipping, etc.

But it all changes when a MCNN prop worker, Anachronistic Cat, comes in and just stares at a pile of paper and photos.

“He has a shrine.” They say which catches some people’s attention for a second.

“Who has a shrine?” Patho asks as it walks in with one of its siblings.

“Bdubs. It’s behind the vending machines.”

Silence fills the room as the three remaining people in the room process this.

“What.”

“I don’t think it’s a joke anymore. He worships Etho like he’s a god.”

More silence before the sound of Logos choking on their coffee is heard as it clicks.

“That’s what it was?! It’s Bdubs?! He’s the one who made it?!!?” Logos says surprised and now concerned.

the idea that keeps on going:

every day you have the opportunity to make a certain number of posts. depending on what you post, you attract different people in the tags which furthers your connections. the more members you recruit, the more your circle increases and there’s a bigger chance of your post getting more notes -> more new people in the tags. for example if you post about how dessert duo is the enemy from the eyes of bogwarts, you’ll attract bad faith dessert duo fans (who will want to #cancel you) but you’ll also get enthusiastic bogwarts fans. posting about shower husbands will attract people more likely to be fine with shipping. appealing to the secret starian corner (often under attack) also strengthens the ship alliance.

if your fandom enjoyment level gets completely depleted the first time, you get one (1) get out of jail free card which is someone bringing up #SHIPlakebog from 2019 which raises your level to sustain for a few more days before you die or raise it high enough to survive. #SHIPlakebog is a precious trump card.

since the whole thing is water themed, finding someone to join is known as “fishing” and the members are called “fishies”. the process is described as hook (sending out bait), line (waiting for the bait to be taken/ warily pondering one’s vibes), and sinker (sending the dm).

eventually you learn the player character has some Embarrassing Fandom History they would prefer to hide, like idk writing bandom fics or x reader fics on wattpad or participating in a ship war or the general voltron experience.

sequel idea: it’s a few months after triple life ended and final life is starting in autumn. and then disaster strikes! someone leaks screenshots of your “controversial” server and your members start receiving hate mail. there is a snitch Among Us. in these Boggy Waters. your new task is to find the boogeyman (boggyman?)— while watching final life live and experiencing whatever gay shit they’re up to this time. your job is to calm everyone down before fandom enjoyment decreases and your server falls apart

the snitch turns out to be a teenager who sent the scs to their friends for fun but one of the friends didn’t like shipping so they sent it to their other friend group to vent, intending for it to private, but it spiralled and leaked. and the teen felt so bad so they never came forward. the moral of the story is that cyberbullying is bad and rpf is ok.

mars gets on tumblr during this time and things happen. final life causes pathubs (pathoslab x treedoubleo) to trend which helps to normalise shipping.

interactive fiction idea: it’s 2021, you play as a new barktree shipper emerging from the hot new mcyt series triple life. your task is to sus out who else on your dash is also a secret shipper and invite them to your “controversial” shipping discord server without being cancelled. you’ll have to dig through ao3s, abandoned twitter accounts, old rpf fics from a pseud they no longer use, general posts, youtube comments, which username clipped this shippy moment between benthebog and martin ofthebigwaters

So logo knows its in a system, but how much does it know about etho and patho specifically? It rly interests me as the only one who's got that information :3

It gets really boring at night when half the server is asleep, so when Logo isn't secretly co-fronting during the day, it'll go on scavenger hunts to find out what happened. Logo was able to figure out a lot about Etho like this: frequents this base more than that = closer friends, has an over stock of one block that's suddenly gone = likely a shop, woke up at someone else's house = must be helping on a long term project. And what Logo can't figure out, Impulse will happily tell it. All that combined, it knows about as much about Etho as all the other hermits and then a little bit more

It's a bit harder to do the back tracking with Patho because they wake up and think one of two things: 'the gods are dead, nothing is real, time to hang out with the illusitory versions of the hermits the jungle made to keep me placid' or 'the gods are dead, nothing is real, and I got to get the fuck out of here'. On the days Patho sticks around, the scavenger hunt feels more like searching for bigfoot, and usually ends with Logo going to one of the nHo members and staring at them till they share the events of the day. Its really easy to tell when Patho tries to "escape" because the week that follows always involves way more visits from the other hermits

Logo also figured out how Etho and Patho clash because of this, and does some light mediation between the two. It took Etho so long to build a base with a roof because Patho is claustrophobic and Logo kept throwing away the blueprints so Patho wouldn't feel so trapped in the base. Logo always makes sure to carry an extra ender chest in case Patho runs so when Etho wakes up he's not without materials. Now it just has to figure out how to get the two to agree on a sleep schedule

Oh absolutely, but here's the thing: Ethos is used to refer to ethics and character, which is somewhat ironic given that Etho has spent the entire season being as shady as possible. Do you think then that Pathoslab and Logoslab also act opposite to their names?

Hi, so I've just read your 2 fics with the Hels!Tango & Impulse and I absolutely loved them~ I was wondering if, at some point, you'll ever share the lore/backstory behind them (like Evil Tango's babble about the hierarchy in Hels and how he thinks he should have been at the top and why Reflex is so terrified of dying and stuff, what his 'mistake' was)

I will share bits and pieces of it in various places, but the truth is that that kind of thing is very hard to get into a fic without it being clunky. I'm planning a few more stories about the TIZ Team (if burnout doesn't thwart me first), and perhaps I'll make a few posts on here related to their backstories and my opinions about Hels.

One thing I can tell you, though, is that a lot of the Hels hierarchy depends on the steady control of a set piece of territory. Without that, it's awfully hard to get any kind of safe base set up, and even harder to accumulate resources or build machines, if you're so inclined. Therefore, the most respected people in Hels are pretty well situated and don't really want to leave their turf to go chase hopeless schemes in the Overworld. That's why you won't likely see Helskall, FalseAsymmetry, Docm666, Pathoslab, etc. running about the server anytime soon (working names)

This tells you a little bit about our favorite evil trio. (And it is a trio, Aadaph fic is in the works.) None of them are especially satisfied with their situation or prospects back home. They have a survivable setup - more than that, one good enough to develop Overworld portal technology - but it's only a matter of time before they get steamrolled by the next up and coming big gun looking to expand their territory. Not to say that the TIZ Team is the bottom tier of Hels or anything, but as people who don't fight or hide particularly well, they don't really make the top ten.

Now. Although I did say there was a hierarchy, not all of the Hels Hermits are even interested in climbing it. Reflex isn't - he just wants to collect some life force, do his projects, and live as long as possible before the consequences of his grand error come crashing down on him. Aadaph isn't interested in climbing the ladder either - he has his own incomprehensible motives, later to be revealed. Now, Evil Tango (Waltz, as he is most commonly known in Hels - he never introduced himself by name in Dungeons and Deceit) does want to climb the ladder. Or rather, did. Some time before we picked up his story, he worked up the nerve to challenge Helskall, which went about as well as you'd expect. (Remember that briefly mentioned scar on his neck?) He's after power in the Overworld now as a substitute for what he failed to gain in Hels.

Well, that illegible ramble was fun! I hope that gave you a bit more to think about. I think I've still got a bit more energy left for this Hels concept, so be sure to look out for more content after I get the last chapter of Reflex posted.
