Paddy Hill spent more than 16 years in prison for murders he did not commit. One of the so-called Birmingham Six who were wrongfully convicted for the Birmingham pub bombings in 1974, he was proof that exoneration and financial compensation do not fix a miscarriage of justice. When I met him in July 2023, more than 30 years after his release from prison, his ordeal continued to haunt him. He was in his late 70s, looking frail and far from the “12 and a half stone” man he was in Parkhurst Prison. He had very little appetite and was in poor health. The little sleep he was able snatch was marred by screaming nightmares. Neither of us knew it at the time, but this was to be his final interview. He died aged 80, on December 30 2024. I sat down to talk with Hill in his living room. Struggling to control his emotions, he told me: “Sometimes I sit in the bedroom … and I’m crying my eyes out like a child and I don’t know what the fuck happened … I’ve been so fucking screwed up.” The ITV docudrama Mr Bates vs the Post Office thrust wrongful convictions into mainstream consciousness in January 2024 – a quarter of a century after the Post Office began prosecuting sub-postmasters and mistresses for fraud, theft, and false accounting and 15 years after Rebecca Thomson’s Computer Weekly article exposing the Horizon IT system as the potential culprit. Now the public could finally see the human impact of miscarriages of justice on these upstanding – and, more importantly, innocent – members of their communities. Public outrage followed.

The show really hits you with the fact that Annabeth is the head counselor for the Athena cabin. Like, obviously she’s been there for a long time, but none of her older siblings are more fit for the job? How many others who are more experienced and older have already ventured off on deadly quests, never to return? Just how much death and tragedy has this girl witnessed at camp?

Is there anything from before being locked up that Narinder still does? Habits that he might still have, rituals he might still try to do, anything from godhood he has to get used to not being able to do anymore?

He has a hovering-issue when it comes to running the Cult and doing Rituals (ESPECIALLY Blood rituals. He does not condone them, as they are ancient and incredibly dangerous/instable). He's also had to get used to being so small and incredibly weak.

The Crown no longer gives him eldritch strength, and his body has pretty much lost most of its muscle mass because of it, having been born extremely weak and sickly. The physical traits took longer to revert.

But, the thing he struggles with the most is how large the world is and how the fresh air still burns his lungs. How the pressure makes his bones ache. When the weather starts to drop, how he now experiences migraines and illnesses which leaves him sicker than most with his naturally unwell body. He spent so many centuries wanting out of his small prison, but had not considered (enough) how large in comparison the outside would be. The depth leaves him feeling too open and vulnerable.

Luckily, his spouse has a love for big blankets (too many of them), good for hiding.

The first years without one was no fun. They thought he was lazy, hiding away every day in his shelter, though it was only partly true.

After being on the run for most of his life, being hunted down by his father & his father's people, and the Moriyamas', we can all agree that Neil has been through a lot.

Stress manifests differently depending on genetics and your personality. Whether it be physically or mentally, eventually stress will catch up to you.

Neil is familiar with panic attacks and days where it feels like his father is just around the corner. Days where he doesn't feel like he deserves the life he has made for himself, and that he should've kept running. Now, he has come up with different coping mechanisms for himself, including Andrew's "tough love" mentality when he sinks too far into panic and self depreciation.

But he wasn't prepared for the couple of grey hairs he finds the summer after they win against the Ravens. He doesn't know if he has always had them, there isn't enough for him to think that they have been there for years. But after his roots grow out from the Auburn dye Jean had put in his hair during his stint at Evermore, Neil thinks it must've been from the "holiday" that he has very little memory of, and then the subsequent torture from Baltimore.

Neil vaguely remembers Mary's hair greying before they left for good. And at that point, she dyed her hair with ruthless attention. But Neil does not know what to do with another change in his appearance, he had been checking his roots out of habit when he blearily woke up one morning, and how he is faced with another dilemma.

He asks Andrew if he knew (the #1 culprit of playing with Neil's hair), and Andrew responds with a simple raise of his brow.

"Maybe it's from stress, I don't know."

Andrew turns away from Neil and back to his mug of hot chocolate, "Maybe you're just getting old."

It is an obvious jab, but it also hits too close to another part of his sudden issue: he is allowed to grow. He is no longer debating on whether or not he will live past 20. But up until now he hasn't had proof of it.

Neil is still slowly learning his to be his own person, away from the stress and paranoia that hung over him for most of his life. He doesn't know how to feel about the few strands of grey hair he has, all he knows is that it is now apart of him.

ok, I've wondered this for a bit but what do you think about a yn with naturally lighter (maybe even blond...?) hair? would she keep it dyed or try to grow it out and show it off every once in a while? would the yn-itors go crazy over it?

──── i had thought about this and i think no matter what hair color y/n was born with, she would def try to show it off every once in a while. i don't think she would let it grow out but she would dye it her natural hair color ever so often. especially, when ateez doesn't have a comeback but are still doing other things ( i.e tour, wanteez, etc. ). i could also see her dying it her natural color whenever the other member go all black with their hair.

the ynitors would absolutely go crazy whenever she showed off her natural hair – especially if she was debuting it at the airport.
