Since they're expies and all I already had a general idea of what they looked like floating around, and their descriptions in the ttrpg were kinda sparse save for Mystic mentioning Pip had a blue dress... So for the sake of solidifying their designs a lil' more, I decided to draw all three of 'em together!

hi babeyyyy here’s a pip tax in fact one for each thing im about to share

1. his sweet little face. have you looked at my handsome son today? well do it again bc he’s so cutttttteeeee and he looks at me in such a specific way I wish I could capture it. it’s just so full of absolute love he can barely keep his eyes open and it makes me feel like the most special person alive

2. his playfulness! he isn’t a young boy anymore, he’s about 7 and he is as kitten like as he was when I first found him! he loves to play and jump and roll around. he loves his catnip banana too much tho I have to separate them

3. how sweet he is to other animals. besides the stray cat luring he has been doing, he’s always been pretty good with other animals. big dogs used to kind of make him jumpy but now he’s like meh whatever and just plops down next to them.

4. how happy he makes me feel <3 having a cat is having a piece of heaven in your home. he’s my constant companion, he sleeps at my head, he’s the first thing I encounter when I wake up in the morning. we are woven into each others lives fully.

I don't think that Pippin Took is not intelligent, or smart.

I think he's an incredibly bright, young hobbit with the self-preservation of any 16-year-old human who just wants to know and understand everything.

Going by the books (because I love Pippin in the books), it's fairly clear that he quite clever, just reckless and very, very curious to the point that not knowing something is an irritating itch that he just has to scratch.

To me, Pippin seems like the kind of child who was told that he asked too many questions and needed to sit down and be quiet, which led to him seeking answers himself, regardless of how dangerous it might seem. Hence dropping the stone down the well (who doesn't want to see how deep a very dark pit goes?), touching the palantír (in his defense, he didn't really want to but he felt something pulling him towards it. Whether it was his curiosity or something ulterior in the palantír is up for interpretation in my mind), even joining the conspiracy to uncover what Frodo was really doing when he sold Bag End.

Pippin is just someone who craves knowledge and is unafraid to go and find answers himself, probably because everyone constantly tells him that he asks too many questions and that he can't possibly wish to know everything.

is there a reason your hearthian ocs don't follow the naming convention of other hearthians? I know Stein translates as "stone" but I'm lost on Dusty and Mohs - and the new hatchling? Pip?

Ooh, thank you so much for the ask, this actually gives me a fun opportunity to share some cool geology facts, hehe! So - my hearthians do loosely follow the geological naming convention of the rest of their kin, but their names are not directly related to minerals or rock types, but instead to lesser known geological processes, features or diagnostic tools.

Mohs is named after the Mohs Hardness Scale - a scale used to identify minerals based how "hard" they are. The scale is a little outdated nowadays, but it's still used to help identify minerals both in the field and in the lab. The scale itself is made up of ten reference minerals, ranging from Talc which sits at 1 (softest) to Diamond which rests at 10 (hardest). Basically, if you're struggling to place a mineral, you can try scratching it and see if that helps you narrow it down.

I thought naming Mohs after a diagnostic test was a cute nod to their role as a geologist, and also to their chipped teeth, which they use themself to test rocks in the field, hehe!

Fun fact, you can actually buy a little kit of reference minerals that can be used in the field to test any samples you may be unsure of!

You are absolutely correct in regards to Stein, their name is the German word for "stone", but also as a barkeep I thought it was fitting that their name also be related to alcohol! I'm sure you know that a beer stein is one of those big, stoneware mugs used for beer, but can also relate to the old English word "stean", which is an old earthenware drinking vessel or jug! Finally, stein can also relate to a specific kind of beer known as a steinbier, which is brewed using hot stones, normally some kind of granite - so we do get that geology link as well!

Now, Dusty, I suppose is a bit more of a tentative link, haha! But, Dusty lore time - Dusty is actually a nickname for my rancher! Their given name is Loess, which is a specific form of geological deposit produced by windblown dust that accumulates into buff or hill-like structures. Loess grains themselves are pretty angular, which is why Dusty has angular markings! Yeah, I get it, Loess > Dusty is a big jump, but I think it can work, haha! After all, a loess is made specifically of windblown dust!

Finally, Pip! I know I haven't posted much about them yet, but I wanted a cute name for Dusty and Mohs' little hatchling. Pip's name comes from pipy concretions - which are basically more well defined and compact pockets of rock that sit within a softer sediment, pipy concretions themselves are often elongate or tubular in shape. Pip themself doesn't have any features aligning to a pipy concretion, perhaps other than their markings that become more elongate along their body? But really, I wanted a cute name and I thought Pip suited them, hehe!

So, I hope that answers your question, anon! Sure, my hearthians aren't as firmly linked to geological formations and minerals as others are, but they're certainly still rooted in geological terms and practices!

Shrimp and Pip:

Pip tends to fall into a natural caring role with kids, while Shrimp is used to being the eldest. They don't get along the best at the start, but once Shrimp comes around, he can appreciate having an elder brother figure to rely on (and annoy of course).

Shrimp and Steel:

Steel doesn't particularly have any sibling-ly instincts and happens to meet the others at a bad time, so initially they're a bit closed off. Shrimp worms his way into their heart through a lot of mischief, and their banter loses its bite eventually. The two squabble a lot, but work together very well and see each other as equals. It wasn't the best decision to introduce him to Ravio, though...

Sweetie Bell's hair was very fun to draw. I love pony hair with spirals. I also went with her "grown up" design.

Honestly I went back and forth on several different fan-made pony world maps before settling on this one. I'm not personally married to the name it was given on the fan map. Not sure Inuyasha would even necessarily call the island by it's name and not just "uh, you mean my home?" I think if I was going to label it on a map myself, I'd probably call it "Nippone".

soooooo they are from a range of different places! dan did a round up of his favourite albums from the years 2015-2019 (well these are the only ones i’ve found, if anyone has any other years PLEASE let me know!)

Oh she would not have lasted long. Possibly even self corrupt from the grief of remaining there while Rose was gone. She definitely wouldn't want to be around the twins, because Steven "took" Rose and Nora is a walking reminder that *Pearl survived but Rose didn't*. It would be a whole ass mess. I can definitely imagine like, a self corrupt situation that leads to her being bubbled with the others.
