Might as well do the end of August update so we have a fresh slate going into September.

beyond a thin veil part vi: Made a little progress on this, it seems to be flowing. That is not an accurate predictor of whether it will keep flowing.

The OT3: done. It's been hibernating for most of the month to give my brain a break from it. Then it's time to start editing. The draft is currently clocking in at approximately 128k words and 23 chapters.

Pivot Point: I wrote more than I expected (we're up to 148k now) and we're still sorting out the next steps after the plot point erupted. I know where we're going, but not how we're getting there.

The rest: My brain abhors a vacuum, so I've melded together a few stray ideas into something that makes it happy. So far we've got two scenes written, but they're more thought exercises at this point. I might make this one wait until November since I don't have a solid NaNo idea. It's shaping up to be another Harry Potter/Middle Earth crossover, but starting in the First Age instead of the Third Age. Let me know if this is a thing people are interested in.

Posting Plans:

I'm committing to having something from the beyond a thin veil universe up in December. Ideally it's part vi because of the winter vibes. We'll see how that goes.

Stretch goal: get the first chapter of the OT3 up by the end of September. It's possible, so long as I can sort out a title and a summary by then, plus edit that chapter. If I do that, I'm not certain I can keep to a rapid posting schedule (or any schedule) so that may update slower than other fics have.

i know the real answer is that dean was never supposed to go to hell, so getting someone out of hell wasn't supposed to be possible beyond a demon deal. that was sort of the whole point

but since they abandoned the sam descending into using his powers to save dean storyline (cowards) that makes the whole john selling his soul for dean and the angst surrounding it significantly funnier

like dean is literally tearing himself apart with guilt over his father selling his soul for him, to the point that that he considers taking the crossroads deal to bring him back and sam is fucking pissed at just the mention of it

but they do not go to any effort to get him out lol

sam is absolutely tortured by dean being in hell, he spirals, doing anything and everything he possibly can to get him out no matter what it does to him

when sam's in the cage, dean just straight up becomes a depressed alcoholic playing the family man with lisa because that's what sam told him to do and even though he knows it's impossible - again, sort of the whole point of the cage - he still looks for a way to save sam and then rejects the hunting life as a whole when he can't because the reminders are just too painful

when john sells his soul and goes to hell though?

sodapop sometimes rubs steve’s back after work. especially when steve decides to actually ask if he can come over that night. soda’s the only one he feels comfortable enough to be completely shirtless around because of the scars on his back from his dad. sometimes soda just lightly grazes those scars—it makes him feel sick to his stomach, especially when he feels steve tense under him and hears him hiss in pain whenever he grazes one of them. those nights, he holds steve extra tight, his hands still on his back, feeling it ruse and fall under his touch as steve actually gets the sleep he needs. he presses his cheek to steve’s chest and feels his heart beating beneath his cheek as he closes his eyes. he knows steve’s safe tonight, and as long as soda can help it, he’ll always be safe with him. he’s alive—they’re both so, so alive.
