I don't know what time it is, but the sun have yet to rise. It is cold, and there is darkness surrounding me. Staring silently. Witnessing.

I had a dream again.

I was flying so freely. A makeshift angel, flying in loops and spins, the wind licking at my back and my hair. I was floating upon clouds like a bird freed from its cage.

Like this greek boy from the tale, I was free. I was flying around like a bird, my wings spread wide, torn and battered by the winds, yet strong. Carrying tall. I flew.

I flew, the sun, a glowing orb at the edge of the horizon, growing nearer as I went. It was so warm to the touch, even from a distance.

Like whisps of fire, catching, grabbing, and burning down and away anything in its path. Like a burnt old tossed away good-for-nothing piece of wood.

It's hot now, warm and fuzzy. The sweat is gathering, sliding off my arms as I toss and turn.

Addictive. I got to touch what others cannot. I get to see what they do not– hear the whisper of the sun in my ears as it beckons me closer.

And closer.

Like the whisper of a snake. The snake in eden.

And I fall, rays of fire spreading across the sky. Layers of feathers that accompany me as I drop, layers and layers like a frightened nest.

And regret wash over me. It's cold. Like waves of waters. Unshed tears sting at my lashes.

Yet I smile, I proudly scream as I go to my death, the horizon stretching scarily real. Accurately realistic. And my screams are wild, they are as free as a bird's playful chirp. As a hawk's cry when it catches its prey.

Because I touched the sun. For a moment, it was my lover. It touched me, grazed me lightly and whispered in my ears until they melted.

I did the impossible.

The world crashes into me, mountains bend over and the sky fall into the earth. And I smell everything— the scent of the land after the rain, the smell of the smoke of burning wood in a bonfire, even the aroma of the flowers and the hum of the bees. And my eyes see far, from edge of the world to the other end. I hear the cries of babies and the color of the flames crackling softly.

And then I wake again.

It is cold again. My skin is clinging to my bones. My hands feel clammy, there is vomit in my throat, clinging to my teeth.

I am shaking again. I see double and triple and numbers that men can't yet count on its meek, feeble hands.

I had a dream again.

I learn to decipher when I was asleep and when not. It was becoming easy really– you only dream of things that are not real, not true.

I dreamt I was free.
