i just watched nimona (minor spoilers ahead! go watch it!)

first half was just "awww cute lighthearted movie, neato, this is cool!" loving the characters and the vibe, everything's going well. Seems like the conflict wrapped up a little too quickly, so i check how much time is left. there is another half of the movie, so ok awesome! wonder what they're gonna do!

movie ends. i am in shambles.

also are we gonna talk about how the main character is a gay amputee poc with an adorably caring boyfriend who is shown to be the explicit love interest the moment he comes on screen and his sidekick is a genderfluid metalhead minor with pink hair who he pretty much adopts, like

i love them so much

and then also just...all of the end credits (the progress flag transition? the anarchy heart? it made me jump for joy. nimona knows what's up)

do yall ever think about the fact that there will probably never be a protagonist like wei wuxian ever again or are yall normal?? he’s such a well-rounded, dynamic, all-encompassing PACKAGE of a character that it’s actually been a trouble for me to sink my teeth into epic fantasies these last few years because the MCs are such a huge hit or a miss for most of them and no character in my adult recreational reading career has ever managed to endear me as much wei wuxian has. he MAKES mdzs for me. without his manner of thinking, his method of interacting with the people and world around him, his backstory, his everything, mdzs would not be such a compelling and hard-hitting tale despite having all the elements to make an epic narration. like this guy has set the standard for main characters to be WAY too high. god fucking damn it.

This is literally the greatest evening of my life. Like I can't express more deeply how sincere Charlie Day is and how he truly does *get it* and he very much believes we *get it* too. He stuck around because he wanted to talk to us, and I'm not saying that to brag at all:

He let us ask literally anything we wanted. He talked a lot about caring so much about making sure the episodes focus on who the characters are instead of swinging for big ideas.

My favourite answer he gave us was when I asked if he was ever going to direct an episode and he told me "Probably not" and explained it was because he already does so much behind the scenes and there are so many people in their crew who want to direct and deserve the opportunity and experience to do that, and he doesn't need any more credit on Sunny.

When it was time for them to leave he grabbed each of our hands and said he thinks we get the show better than anyone else.

Straight up surreal. Doesn't feel real.
