i love it when kaz manages to finally overcome and heal from his trauma surrounding touch as much as the next person, but it deeply frustrates me when it comes too quickly and when it's regarded as the only way for kanej's relationship to progess. give me intimacy that doesn't revolve around touch. give me love letters, and quiet nights spent in the company of one another. give me stories told in whispers about everything and anything, give me the trust and vulnerability that comes with showing the other your soul and mind, give me sleeping in the same room even if it's not in the same bed and knowing that the other might witness your nightmares, give me comfort that doesn't need touch to be effective and an Inej who doesn't demand from Kaz that he heals his decade-long trauma in a single week, because I refuse to believe it fits her character to be so inconsiderate when it comes to trauma

if the crows were in a lockwood and co au world, what would their positions be?

What a fun ask! Let's see:

Kaz: a prodigy agent who runs a scrappy independent agency, Dregs and Co. (he forced Per Haskell out after Haskell did a Jacobs and got several kids killed). He has very strong Touch abilities but only ever takes off his gloves to touch a Source or relic in dire circumstances. He also has very good Sight, which is what he mostly uses on a daily basis as an agent.

Inej: her incredible Listening skills are why Kaz poached her from the exploitive Heleen Van Houden's Menagerie, where she was being forcibly loaned out to relic-men as a Canary, but she also has a very solid sense of Touch. She's Kaz's second-in-command, the agency's general researcher, and Ketterdam's top fencer.

Jesper: very strong Sight and Touch. He carries a special modified flare gun that shoots salt bombs. Came to Ketterdam for school, dropped out and became an agent.

Wylan: mediocre Sight and Listening. Was laying low as a Night Watch after escaping his dad, got picked up by Kaz because his impeccable memory and great chemistry skills make him an excellent logistics and operations manager. He makes sure their kits are always ready to go.

Nina: Touch. She's the company's client intake manager and field medic, but Kaz also keeps her around so he can set her loose on DEPRAC whenever they show up to bother them.

Matthias: this man is Quill Kipps. He is either a junior DEPRAC officer or the world's most put-upon supervisor who realized that he was working for the Devil (Druskelle Inc.) and hates that he's been forced by the narrative (dating Nina) to help the rest of these semi-feral teenagers so they won't get themselves killed.

The rest of the Dregs are agents at Kaz's agency. Colm Fahey is a non-Sensitive who married an agent-turned-supervisor; Aditi dying to save a girl's life while Supervising a mission led him to be deathly afraid of Jesper joining an agency. Van Eck runs the equivalent of Fittes, hence why he wants Bo Yul-Bayur (a top researcher on ghost defense methods) and later Kuwei to work for him.

Pekka Rollins runs the equivalent of Rotwell and has been conducting illegal experiments for years. Kaz's vendetta against him started when he recruited the orphaned Kaz and Jordie to help with an experiment that left Jordie dead from Ghost Touch and Kaz traumatized from a near-permanent ghost-lock and The Horrors™ of the Sources he was forced to touch.

Why I can't seem to finish the Six of Crows Duology

If you don't want spoilers look away - even just little ones

Six of Crows is one of those books I adore so so much but that I have a hard time continuing because of the ending - it's so impactful and jarring at times that every time I go, I need a mini break between books and then it's been two years so you reread the first one and guess what? the same thing happens. I love the book don't get me wrong, and I have solid knowledge I will love the second one but it just hasn't happened.

If you have tips leave them below and then to leave you with a question, Have you read Six of Crows? what about Crooked Kingdom?

5. Any character you didn't expect to like as much as you did? Similarly, is there any character you didn't end up liking as much as you though you would?

I don't think there's anyone in particular I liked less than I was expecting too except maybe just that I had a dislike for Van Eck at the start of Six of Crows that just became a deeper and deeper hatred as it went on. Oh and Jarl Brum!! I was kind of expecting him to be more of a construct and someone I was aware of being a terrible person but not so horrendous in the foreground, but good god to I hat him hate him hate him hate him, okay it's like when Nina says she doesn't just want to kill him for what he did to her people but what he did to Matthias as well, this is exactly it okay what he did to Grisha, what he did to Matthias, what he did to Kuwei, what he doubtlessly did to so many other young boys in similar situation to Matthias ugh screw him. And as for characters I like more than I expected to, I think maybe Matthias because I will defend this man to my dying breath and I know he's supposed to become more likeable over the course of six of crows but in his first chapter I was really uncertain how I felt about him I felt like I was only there for Nina. Rereading that chapter in light of the character he becomes and knowing him so much better I find that I understand him far more

6. Are there any aspects of a character or plot that you wished had been delved into more in the duology?

I would really like to know more about Dunyasha, I think she's fascinating

16. Got a hill you'd die on about a particular character trait/scene/ship/etc?

Kanej will heal and be able to be together I don't understand why you wouldn't want them to as long as they are both comfortable and taking their time they deserve to heal and to be able to be together they deserve the world

Bear in mind I’ve only read the Percy Jackson books, haven’t yet seen the TV show yet. But Percy seems significantly less fucked up than Shadow and Bone’s Kaz Brekker. Although that could be partly because Percy is 12, 13 at the oldest, while Kaz is in his mid to late twenties.

That said, thr OP has a point. Kaz is devoted to Inej just as Percy is devoted to Annabeth. And Annabeth is a wise and fierce protector of her idiot hothead Percy, just like Inej wisely and fiercely protects Kaz.

7. What non-romantic relationship dynamic did you like the best?

Ok so I absolutely adore platonic love, platonic love means the world to me, it is so beautiful (self-promotion here but fun fact there are no romantic relationships in my book except for a slow burn for the main character, and for me it is a celebration of platonic love) and I love all of the Crows' relationships. I think I would have to say Jesper and Inej as my favourite non-romantic dynamic, I've said it before and I'll say it again: Genuinely one of my favourite friendships in literature. Jesper and Inej's relationship is so wonderful and it means so much to me <3

Closely following non-romantic relationships I adore: Nina and Kaz, Nina and Inej, Inej and Matthias, Inej and Wylan, and honestly I just love them all

Hi friend!!! Hope you're well!! I'm doing really good actually! It's been a good few weeks with the exception of Saturday which was awful but I'm good now :D

OOhhh I miss Shadow and Bone and the crows. Especially Matthias and Nina because I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND IT KILLS ME WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE THE REST OF THEIR STORY ON SCREEN. I mean obviously I adore Kaz as well but Matthias came out of nowhere and I fell HARD and then him and Nina have such a good story and I MISS THEM SO MUCH!!

Explanatory note. Kaz Brekker from Netflix's "Shadow and Bone" has a phobia about touching people, and them touching him. He wears gloves ALL the time. That’s how Inej figures out she’s hallucinating and it’s not the real Kaz in the scene above in Season 2. Because he takes off his gloves and touches her skin with his bare hands. Inej knows he would never do that, therefore this is a hallucination or a dream.
