My second (and third) K118, and I feel like I’m getting a hang of this binding type.

The story is a Person of Interest Medieval AU, so I went with a manuscript-esque vibe.

🌈 The cover is black bock (? sheep leather) with the title hand foiled in gold. The spine has three faux cords.

🌈 French double core endbands with a rainbow ;) to echo the illustration.

🌈 Fancy title page has a lightly edited public domain frame, for interlude headers I used a vintage monogram plate, and then used my new iPad and the powers of Procreate for good and drew a manicule (the little hand pointing at the author’s notes) and a square frame to match the monogram plate.

🌈 A linocut of a corvid (I needed a rook but settled for a cute jackdaw) marks each blank page (I started each chapter on the right page, so they were a handful of those).

🌈 The author helpfully included a whole reading list with the sources of their historical research, so I checked all the links and made them into a fancy QR-code pattern.

🌈 This edition also features a very special surprise - a poem by @agest inspired by this very story.

P.S.: I also made the rosary used for the photos, it’s a gift for a dear friend.

In 2021, Nicholas Vazquez and his partner Jesse Campbell, wanted to do something special for Pride month. Campbell got Styrofoam from Home Depot, carved out a paint brush from that. Vazquez painted the wood paneling, which made up the walkway. Campbell added the hanging fabric. The idea for the display started with a quote: “Don’t be afraid to show off your true colors.”

After facing a backlash, they determined to come back even bigger in 2022 and added a large unicorn made of styrofoam surrounded by 36 flags representing the LGBTQ+ community.

Their home went viral on social media and has become a tourist destination.

In addition to taking photos, they encourage visitors to donate. They've had QR codes which let individuals donate to the Trevor Project, Men Having Babies (a nonprofit that helps LGBTQ+ couples become parents), and Point Foundation (which is an LGBTQ scholarship fund)

Licorice is a Beanie Boo released in 2024. Beanie Boos were released in 2009 following the discontinuation of Beanie Baby 2.0. Boos come in several sizes, as small as clip on hangers and as big as 16"+. Currently (2024) Beanie Boos are effectively the default line, with other lines taking inspiration from them eg. Beanie Bellies having the same eyes or Flippables using the Boo base but covered in sequins.

Licorice is notable for having three firsts among Halloween cats. One is using pink as a main color, another are her tri-colored eyes, and third is a QR code on the back of the French warning swing tag. Eye placements vary wildly making no two Licorice the same, unlike a plush like Freedom where the eyes are ALWAYS placed the same despite being multicolored.

On a personal note I'm actually not very fond of the pink. I wish it was either more purpley or just a different color entirely. It doesn't read Halloween as much as I wish it would. Could be worse, Spellbound is straight up rainbow with Halloween-ish eyes.

My wife and I just came back from our local Pride festival.

Very small but nice. Lots of flyers being handed out by a really looking guy with the bushiest beard and most gorgeous rainbow skirt, all about year round stuff you can join.

Be the match to someone's mitten! The Rainbow Mitten Gift Program connects donors with an LGBTQ+ person in need to enable that individual to receive a gift this holiday season. Gift recipients must be either be a youth under 18, an adult enrolled in Triangle Community Center's counseling, case management, or programming and "in need", or be homeless and/or at risk of homelessness.

Gift recipients must submit a written letter requesting an item that's value does not exceed $100 or list a store of their choice where they would like to receive a gift certificate (to be submitted through link in QR code or in bio).

When an individual signs up as a donor, TCC provides them with their LGBTQ+ person-in-need's letter. Submissions for being a recipient or donor must be received by November 20th, and donors will be assigned recipients by November 22nd. Gifts must be delivered to TCC by December 6th.

Gift recipients can pickup their gift at Ugly Sweater Social (December 13th) or make other arrangements with Amanda (amanda@ctpridecenter.org).

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #227

Today was the day.

I put on my socks.

Then I put on my eyeballs.

Then I put on the first layer of things.

Then I put on the next layer of things:

I don't have a black leather coat; I have a cream-colored knit one. I don't have heavy pauldrons; I have feathers on my shoulders. I don't have a super long sword; I have a super long flute. I don't have glowing mako-colored eyes; I have rainbow-colored ones.

Even in this, it was a lot to endure. I don't really know how you move in all your gear; it must be pretty miserable. I bet you'd be a lot more comfortable in some loose jeans or maybe even sweatpants. And a loose t-shirt, or maybe a loose turtleneck. Something easy to wear, in a space where armor isn't necessary.

In any case, this is what I went to the space in. And I waited in front of the room where the developers would be. I waited for a long time. I passed the time by playing on my flute and singing a little. J was with me the whole time. He helped to keep me level. It's not lost on me how lucky I am to have such a steadfast source of support at my side. I'd do just about anything for him, too, in return. Even someone I know from the internet, @sephiroths-stuff, popped by to keep us company! It was wonderful!

The panel didn't last for very long. But still, for a moment, I locked eyes with one of the three very important people. He gave me a brief nod, I think, unless he was nodding at something or someone else. Lots of questions were asked of these folks; people had many very interesting and excellent questions. It was wonderful to hear them, and it was wonderful to hear their joyful responses; the interpreter did an amazing job. There was a lot of laughter. These very important people... they have some of the most radiant smiles I've seen, and they had answers to the questions that were very well thought out. I was very impressed.

At the end, a handful of people popped by to see them. It was a short line. They wanted photographs and such, and that was pretty neat; they seemed happy to do it. I was also in this line.

Sephiroth. I was remembered. I was remembered from last time. The person I spoke to and handed my first letter and best handicraft to... he remembered me. And he told me so in English. I was awestruck. But I'm not sure how I expressed that; my mind was moving so fast that I could barely even keep up. My hands were shaking.

I had a bag of gifts prepared for you:

It contained a new letter for you, some stuff for the developers, a rolled-up pile of motivational things from the internet (lots of it repeats stuff I already said, but maybe seeing it from other places too will give my voice a little more weight...). All three of my music box papers were in there - the originals that I punched out for you - but no music box; it's fragile and I don't know how well it'll hold up on an airplane trip. I included a tin full of that tea in your favorite scents - vanilla and rose. And, of course, it included the locket I made for you.

Now that these things are in the hands of their intended recipients... I'll show you some pictures. Here:

I left the room. And with my quest complete... I kind of... broke down and cried just a little. Just a little. But my body didn't stop shaking for a long time.

J thought it would be a good idea to get the excess energy out of my body. So he walked me around the complex just a little. And then we went to the place where there was Dance Dance Revolution. And I played two songs on DDR! But I was not used to the metal pad, and my feet couldn't move right in my shoes, and the costume was heavy, and so... I didn't do very well. But I played with a delightful gentleman, and he didn't seem to mind that I wasn't very good. He smiled at me a lot and was very encouraging, and it was wonderful!

...Maybe I'll play on my frankenpad a little when I go home... That'd be good.

Tomorrow, when I go to the place to see the voice actors panel, I will wear normal clothes - my characteristic long cardigan and Eevee hat. My usual cardigan has pockets; I'll be able to bring the plush of you this time without needing to worry about it getting lost. It'll be very good!

For now, we are back at the hotel. I am very tired. But I did the thing. I did what I came to do. This quest is done with.

...Sephiroth. Do you see how loved you are? Do you see that someone out here is willing to do terrifying things for your sake? Sephiroth... do you have any idea how long it's taken me, after the life I've led, to be able to use my voice like this? Do you understand that I am able to be braver than I normally would be, because of you? Do you see the strength your existence gives me? Do you see me crawling up out of the hole that my birth family tried to bury me in, because it is your voice and presence that I am following back to the light? Do you see me, and all the shattered pieces of me that I wove together into a beautiful, kaleidoscopic whole?

For now... I guess I'll rest a bit until tomorrow. I found a new flavor of kefir over here that's not at the stores at home - guava!! And I found a kombucha flavor that isn't found at home, too - strawberry!

My Pretty series life started with PriPara! I started watching anime first, and later started playing that game. subtitle from that time is '2014-2015 3rd live February' ; I remember getting the 'Valentine Zukyun skirt' 💖

I was familiar with PriPara than with Pretty Rhythm, but when there run I frequently used the QR codes from 'Fashionable items for use in PriPara : 1450'! I still keep both that & 2DS at home🏯 (2DS? You wanna know why? It's just little easier to scan QR codes on the 2DS than on the 3DS... and inexpensive)

The charm of clothing is what got me interested in Pretty Rhythm✨ But I didn't have much opportunity, I was very busy at the time...😢

I finished watching 'Rainbow Live' & began watch 'Dear My Future' in April! that's feel me so real & authentic anime...😭🙏(Tears of emotion and gratitude) ... some Japanese otaku use like 'real' or 'authentic' as a compliment, haha

So, I was accosted by some self-proclaimed Christian at the laundromat, right?

Keep in mind, I was minding my business as much as I could while waiting on my clothes to dry (forwent putting my earbuds in because it was too much hassle with my journal/sketchbook, my pen case, my bag, etc. and that seems to be how strangers in public fucking GET you so I will cease forgoing forthwith). She just comes up to me and hands me a card with her church and a QR code on it that, according to her, leads to "an important video" I just have to see. Mutuals, followers, cunt-rymen, when I say I never wished to have pyrokinetic abilities to be able to set it on fire in my hand more than at that moment....

Now, idk what tipped her off that I am one of those damned souls she's been indoctrinated to go after rather than doing anything actually fucking useful for the world (i mean, there are several genocides happening at the moment, pick one to help stop, why dontcha?). That I don't think you have to be a good person to do good things either. In Hellenic Polytheism, most people don't go to a paradise when they die. Or to Tartarus, unless they truly screwed the pooch somewhere. Elysium is meant for only the most impressive mortals, not necessarily what we would consider "good" in modern times. Heroes and demigods and the like. So, I don't subscribe to getting something necessarily better than this life after I die either. Said I would just be happy as long as there's no capitalism I have to live under when I die. She said 'I don't even know what capitalism is...'. That's when I knew, for certain, I didn't owe her a single damn explanation and started treating it like an interview upon receiving some kind of writing award or something.

She still kept trying to imply that I wasn't taking the threat of Hell seriously, but I also wasn't taking her seriously either. Woman is a teacher! Of little tots! Hope they tie her up with a jump rope on a spindly chair and wheel her ass into the closet. This who is shaping young minds and people really believe that crap about the old bigots dying off--they have already passed their bullshit on and it's running, footloose and fancy-free. Now, I honestly wish I hadn't held back about how much I hope I go to Hell just to beat the fuck outta Reagan.

I have not been able to stop thinking about this interaction and getting mad all over again, guys. Just mad that there are people like that in the world who would come up to anyone and start a theological debate when they aren't causing them a lick of harm. Two people in the cast led the musical theatre workshop I attended in March: one was Maureen, I previously saw her as Veronica in a 2022 production of Heathers the musical; one was supposed to be Joanne but fractured their leg, so instead they were ensemble and the soloist for Seasons of Love

The production company is "Hong Kong Singers" so everyone had a strong, really good voice, but the choreography was a bit lacking

I mouthed along to most of the songs because I know the show lmao

And for that very reason, I could tell when they made a mistake: Colins missed his "getting dizzy" line in Rent, and Mark fucking lost it and gave up during his solo part of La Vi Bohme

I always skip Over the Moon when I watch a production on YouTube or listen to the album because it makes me cringe: this is the first time I didn't, and laughed by fucking ass off instead

Stand outs in the main cast: Colins, Mimi, Maureen, Joanne, Benny (holy shit the voice of whoever played Benny, so smooth and powerful)

Stand outs in the ensemble: Joanne's dad, Mark's Mom/Homeless Woman, Alexis Darling (is that her name? The buzzline woman)

Everyone with a solo in the cast speaks/sings English in an American/International accent, and then the drug dealer opens his mouth to sing and it's such a heavy Hong Kong accent lmao everyone laughed

Colins and Angel had the best chemistry out of the couples

Roger had a great voice but his acting was... Like, he was more like a sad teenager than a person who hates the whole world and themselves

I was squealing internally and squirming in my seat when the beginning notes of I'll Cover You started playing, so far it's my favourite musical love duet

Angel was holding an umbrella during I'll Cover You and I was wondering what was that for, but then when they kissed at the end of the song, they opened the umbrella and covered their faces with it: it was a rainbow umbrella. It was a gay umbrella.

Roger and Mimi, Angel and Colins smooched during Curtin Call, everybody awed

Angel looked like Sharpy Evans during Happy New Year

The sorrow on Colins face during I'll Cover You reprise further broke me

The last thing Angel did before leaving the stage was wrap his arms around Colins and rest his head on his shoulder, I sobbed even more

I'd say the vast majority of the cast were non Chinese; no one in the main cast was Chinese: Benny was Black, the lesbians were both White, Mark, Mimi, Angel and Collins are ethically Filipino. The programme doesn't state Roger's nationality but his surname isn't a Chinese one. Theatre really is one of the most diversed and accepting communities here. But it also says a lot a out the locals attitude on musical theatre/contemporary theatre here.

All in all although I went alone, I'm kinda glad that I went alone so I could fully immerse myself into the show! It was a great performance and probably the closest we'll ever get to anything like Broadway over here
