it does still make me wonder how the bioware writers managed to throw in "anders was in solitary confinement for a year" as like an offhand line, rather than something that should shape his entire character and that other people would react to. and then frame solas being put in a similar state at the end of vg as... uhhh... optimistic and plausibly sustainable...

like the ENTIRE veil hinges on this one guy not getting depression too badly after [indefinite number of years] in forced isolation? and no one thinks this is both really precarious on an objective level, and a morally fucked up thing to do to begin with?

weird ass game. unsettling implications. i don't usually like to assume anyone's political views from their work in that way, but do the writers think people in solitary confinement are just chilling? especially in the sort of medieval dungeon type of thing anders would've been in/whatever torment nexus solas is supposed to be in?

Somewhere in the world right now, this minute, is a young man who will one day play my beloved Lestat de Lioncourt in our TV series. I wonder what that young man is doing.

Is he reading a book tonight, or watching a film? Is he out dancing at a club? Is he studying for an exam, or perhaps acting in a stage play in Los Angeles or Chicago? Is he on the set of a film, waiting for his time on camera? Maybe he's driving on a narrow highway alone from London to Manchester; or through the traffic of Berlin or St.Petersburg or Brussels. He may have the car radio on, or be musing in silence. Perhaps he's playing the violin in an orchestra, or tap dancing on a Broadway stage.

Is his hair already long, to his shoulders? Is he a snappy dresser? I wonder if he is in love. Has he read any of the Vampire Chronicles?

I hope his parents are proud of him for his talent. I hope he is happy. What kind of wine does he like?

remember in death note netflix live action where instead of saying "no you can't kill shinigami with the death note, DUH" they for some reason decided on "you COULD, but no one's good enough at SPEED-WRITING to actually manage it before he kills you FIRST. can YOU beat the #DEATHGODSPEEDWRITINGCHALLENGE?" because the problem with death note all this time was lack of competitive speed-writing and then it didn't even come up not even at all

While I am a fan of Captain America and Superman. I feel it's a bit unfair for other fans of them to ignore the fact that they re ultimately products of a time where American patriotism had different connotations and also had different opposition. The MCU, for all it's faults, did tackle how being an American symbol can change its meaning in a time where America is no long the embodiment of "the good guys". I wish more people were open to that and understanding of that. Also, as always, we should note that the creators of Cap and Supes couldn't have the same ideas of immigration and change that we do today especially through the eyes of other cultures.

Yes for both characters! I think it's odd that Cap, who is in something as mainstream as the MCU, is shown to be rebellious and a government enemy but people still want to simplify him as only American Values Hero He's Not That Deep.

What compels me about cape heroes are how they evolve throughout time and respond to the specific histories they were written in. A lot of these characters were created in the war times when morality had to be black and white. The advent of more antihero characters came after the disillusionment of WW2 among many factors. I'll often criticize Superman being written in modern comics as "A Force of Good That Fixes Things" because that's not compelling characterization, but I recognize historically for the old comics that it's likely a bi-product of Jewish cultural coding (the "A Stands for Truth" part of the video is really interesting) and even then he was still more politically motivated than he's sandpapered off to be in the modern day.

That last part too! I see no point in treating the creators of these characters as perfect. We can recognize that as Jewish creatives that they matter, but we can also be critical of them. I'm not shy with pointing out that Superman's creators were racist to Chinese people and that means their "champion of the oppressed" hero can't truly fight for all immigrants. But that's what's great about other writers like Gene Yang getting the chance to write Superman. He gets to evolve and expand what being "good" means.

The way live action Last Airbender show is now saying how Toph is gonna be a little more feminine...oh they on their way to butcher Toph's character already, because apparently when you finally get adapted from an animated show, you need to be somehow feminine because non-feminine girls scare some people clearly.

they wake up at mid day, and sleep well past midnight. kids begging their parents on weekends to pleeaaase please let them step up just a little longer to watch the sun rise. early-riser visitors / tourists having to adapt to their horrid schedule because stars forbid theyre up and about at 10:30.

I have, and I did like it, but I dunno if I vibe with it as much as other people seem to do. TBF I've never loved the live action Sonic movies, they're decent enough but definitely not my favorite piece of Sonic media. That being said, this was probably my favorite out of the movies so far? They have improved a lot since the first one which is great to see.

One thing I think the movie did great was the action scenes, the coreography and animation was so fun and impactful and incredibly exciting to see! I also think the movie did a good job on selling us on Shadow's and Maria's friendship in a short period of time, that little montage of the two of them just doing a bunch of silly goofy shenanigans was really endearing. The wholesome innonsence of it all makes Maria's death hurt way more.

EXTRA spoiler, but arguably one of the things that made me the most excited in ghe movie was the post credit scene where Amy showed up LMAOOOO I've been waiting for her to show up. And I exepcted Metal Sonic to show up sooner or later in these movies, but I didn't expect a whole army of them haha but that seems like a fun idea.

I am once again upset that Romeo and Juliet adaptations forget Paris exists and so he's like the only character who hasn't undergone major reimaginings/readaptations because like.

He stands to benefit from EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE PLAY

Paris is about to take over his house, basically take over the Capulets, AND the only other hair to a comparably powerful house has been exiled after indirectly getting the only threat to Paris's claim to the throne killed

You can totally do an adaptation where everything that happens is the result of Paris's manipulations and he gets fucked over because his Light Yagami-ass planning didn't account for the situation where Romeo fucking murders him because he and Juliet are already married.

Something really minor that pisses me off to no end is how SuMo designed Ash’s outfit. In every other region he’s been wearing weird sportswear shit like fingerless gloves and brightly colored sleeveless jackets but in SuMo he looks like he stumbled into an Old Navy and picked out the first outfit that fit him. I’d get it 100% if it were Sophocles or Hau or any of the other characters because the Alolan kids actually act like children their age, but Kantonians have been proven time and time again to not give a rattata’s ass about raising kids, Ash is constantly acting way older than he is and still getting shit from his friends and Professor Oak for being immature. Ash should get to dress like a 35 year old man who’s dedicated his life to hiking and only owns stuff he got from his local sports shop because that’s probably what he thinks he is.

But eh, that’s just my opinion.
