And isn't it funny that both heirs of the Noble House of Black ended up in the same place, in the same state (traumatized✨), both falling in the arms of their brother. Such happy lives they have :)

regulus didn’t speak much but not because he didn’t want to. he just didn’t know how to. what the right thing to say would be, how he will be perceived, etc.

james spoke too much but not because he wanted to. he just felt the need to do so because he could never be at ease when he was quiet. he had to be louder than whatever went on in his head.

but when james and regulus were together, regulus would talk for hours on end and james would finally be able to relax and just listen.

Regulus is autistic and James has adhd and they piss each other off so bad literally all the time.

Regulus needs his schedule and timing to be perfect and will claw his own skin off before he’s late anywhere, while James has the worst time management known to man and has never been on time in his life.

James is very easily under stimulated and hates the quiet and will always find a way to fill it with some sort of infodumping, while regulus is overstimulated easily and needs silence to function, and cannot listen to one person talk for too long or their voice will start grating and he will crash the fuck out.

Regulus will not try new foods. James goes crazy if he doesn’t have enough variety in his meals.

James hovers. Regulus wants him dead.

“James? Could you come into the living room for a minute?” Sirius asks him.

“Sure.”

James follows Sirius into the living room and Regulus and Remus are already there. Sirius goes to sit in the chair beside Remus and James sits beside Regulus.

“What’s going on?” James asks them.

Sirius looks down, fidgeting with his hands and Regulus takes one of James’ hands. “Sirius has something to tell you.” Regulus says with a sigh.

“Are you okay?” James asks Sirius then turns to Regulus. “Are you okay?”

“Oh, I’m fine.” Regulus says lightly. “I’m only here because Sirius thinks you’re going to need emotional support.”

“He will, Regulus! He’s going to be devastated!” Sirius gives James a solemn look.

“Okay, someone tell me what’s going on because you’re starting to scare me.”

Sirius takes a deep breath. “Okay, well… erm… someone that Moons works with is moving out of their flat.” Sirius starts slowly. “And… well, they asked us if we’d be interested in taking over their lease… and… erm… we said yes.” Sirius finishes with a wince.

“You guys got your own flat?” James asks and Sirius nods very slowly. “Congratulations guys! That’s amazing!—”

“James…” Sirius cuts off James’ excitement. “It means we’re moving out.”

“Yeah! I’m excited for you both!” James says then turns to Regulus. “And that means—" Regulus is already smiling back at James. “—We’re going to be here. Just the two of us. Are you ready for that?” James asks and Regulus nods as his smile gets bigger and James leans in to kiss him.

“James!” Sirius interrupts them. “I’m not going to live here anymore!” He practically shouts.

“Yeah, I sort of figured that part out.”

Sirius huffs. “Why aren’t you devastated?”

“Am I supposed to be?” James asks Regulus, very confused.

“Apparently so. Do you need emotional support?” Regulus asks with faux sincerity.

“Oh… erm… yes?”

“There, there.” Regulus deadpans as he pats James on the shoulder.

“This is ridiculous! Aren’t you going to miss me?!” Sirius is still shouting.

“Of course! But we’re still going to see each other all the time.” James tells him “And Pads. We’ve lived together for fifteen years. I think we’re ready to try something new.”

Sirius huffs again and crosses his arms, slumping back in his chair. “You should at least be a little heartbroken.” He grumbles.

“Do you need emotional support, Sirius?” Regulus asks him.

“Fuck off, Regulus.” Sirius stands up.

“I really will miss you, Pads.” James tells him.

“Whatever.” Sirius mumbles as he stomps out of the room, Remus trailing behind him rolling his eyes.

“I think we should turn their room into a study.” Regulus says casually.

“Come here.” The command is low, almost lazy. But it cuts through the room like a blade. Regulus goes. He always goes. His feet move before his mind catches up. Something about the way James says it makes it impossible to do anything else. He stops just in front of him, close enough to breathe the same air. His head is bowed slightly, automatically—like muscle memory. James doesn’t move for a beat. Just lets the tension build, hands still tucked under his arms like he's being patient, like he’s giving Regulus time to regret. Then he slowly unfolds one hand and reaches forward. “Open your mouth,” he says, calm and clear. Regulus obeys. His lips part without hesitation, even though his heart thuds erratically in his chest. And then James’ fingers are there—two of them, slipping past his lips before he’s had time to process. Regulus doesn’t flinch. He lets James press them down against his tongue, firm and possessive, like he owns the space. Like he owns him. “There you go,” James murmurs, like he’s praising a particularly well-behaved pet. His other hand comes up to cradle the back of Regulus’ neck, thumb brushing the soft skin just under his ear. “Knew you’d be good for me.” Regulus hums around his fingers. His knees feel a little weak. The pressure is just enough to make his jaw ache, just enough to remind him of exactly who’s in control here.
