Reversal of Fortune, I liked how it was narrated (funny btw that Felicity Huffman is in this, over a decade prior to Desperate Housewives with a similar narrator). Really solid cast as well. I love Jeremy Irons and this film is no exception, he received the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Claus von Bülow. That final line where he asks to purchase insulin, great ending. I really enjoyed this one!

During the daytime, Adrien is a once child model trying to move into the world of big-time film actors with the sponsorship of his father. He likes burying himself into true crime podcasts during his free time. When the sun goes down, however, Adrien becomes Detective Roux, an ex-hero trying to abandon the shadow of his past as a sidekick and create an identity for himself. While the police are very sceptical about him, he genuinely only wants to help clean up the streets of Paris. He is available for commission during his night hours at a very cheap price!

Rune is going to be my character for the new campaign my Monday group is starting!!! (RIP Kiran, who I never got to show off on this blog because he was a Tabaxi, a Dragonborn, and a Thri-Kreen. I'll miss it. Bugs and kisses.) We're playing Heckna! which is a Domain of Dread-adjacent horror-comedy campaign. The entire party is very macabre, and we should fit right in! (But hopefully not too much...)

Anyways, more about Rune. She's a changeling college of dance bard (a new subclass with the 2024 rules, kind of like a combo between a monk and a bard), and they used to be an acrobat at a circus. Since whatever world this party came from is clearly some kind of grimdark dark fantasy setting, the circus itself certainly had its eerie moments. (And of course, it was a magic circus.) When he wasn't up on the high wire, Rune also dabbled in doing tarot card readings for the circus guests, lying through her teeth about their pasts and futures. (While they used their true changeling form while performing in the big top, she used a specific guise when she did the readings, an older woman who used a different name.)

Rune carries with them a porcelain mask, largely featureless, but gilded with gold. When among people who do not know his changeling identity, she pretends that the mask is the source of her ability to change shape, putting it on every time they shift forms.

but the way landoscar’s approach to festive PR work so perfectly hits my personal media tastes as well as the fact that this is a side of Lando’s humor we usually only see in his streams like, the contrast is so sjsbsbsvshdbbd

the odyssey obviously raises a lot of questions and anxieties about the relationship between a parent and a child, but surely one of them must be: what are the responsibilities of parents, and how do they pass on power and legacy to their children, in a society where enslaved labor essentially raises upper-class children?

telemachus being emotionally closer to eumaeus than he is to odysseus and penelope is one example of this tension; even eumaeus' dogs know telemachus, but almost tear odysseus apart. there's also eurycleia being the first to recognize odysseus without any reveal from man or goddess, and the fact that eurycleia's name signifies the opposite of his mother's (eurycleia = wide-fame, widely known; anticleia = anti-fame, unknown). eurycleia and eumaeus are both described as being close to odysseus' family, raised with them and having a hand in raising them. eurycleia nursed odysseus, not anticleia. there's even special note made of eurycleia being protected from laertes; and yet any relative safety they have is maintained by selling out other, "disloyal" slaves (not that the text indicates that their own loyalty isn't sincere, but think about what that proximity does to a person trying to rationalize how and why they survive).

i've kind of lost the thread of what i was saying about parental responsibility and anxiety specifically, but i do think melanthius and melantho and the other hanged women are caught up in it too, somehow. the implicit threat of eumaeus and eurycleia's existence is ultimately realized, not by them, but through the slaves who align with the suitors actively seeking to supplant odysseus and telemachus, which is why their punishment is so cruel. no hierarchy built on enslaved people ever rests easily, and there's a lot of fear about it expressed through the odyssey.

You are pleased, to say the least. You lean closer over the ice and gaze at Eclipse for a moment with your chin in your hand, grinning your shark-like teeth before telling him that he is simply delightful. Come closer, love. You want to see him.

He spends an enchanting time with you, praising you and even touching your wet hair and clawed hands, but the sun is setting and he really should get back to his brothers. He wants to see you again. You laugh sweetly. He is too precious. You simply have to keep him.
