Gather round, folks. It’s headcanon time.
Well, it was headcanon time two or so weeks ago. Sorry, I got sidetracked.

RP shenanigans on Discord got my sleep-deprived brain to produce this statement a while back.
Had it been lying dormant for a while, waiting for the right time to emerge? Your guess is as good as mine, but it sure was living rent-free in my mind nearly twelve hours later when I originally wrote this manifesto elsewhere.
Anyone who’s done RPs with @hxuse-of-muses’ Cosmos may have noticed how he is not above the occasional gag despite his regal visage and the formal disposition most Magic Crafters bear compared to the other four clans. He’s prim and proper, but he still knows how to take the piss or put on a hell of a show.
Even in Reignited, his gestures are far from nuanced - hands in near constant motion, trilling his Rs and making his exit with a twirl of his staff. He might not have had a chance to showcase it in canon, as with most dragons in the game, but there’s clearly a reason why Cosmos leads the Magic Crafters.
Being a good magician means being a good magician.
You could have all the experience in politics expected from a head of state, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before they even humour the thought of electing you into office if you’re nothing but a stick in the mud. If you can’t understand the importance of theatrics and showmanship, you can’t truly understand the foundations of magic.
It’s alluring because it’s abnormal; you need to embrace the wonder and joy it has to offer and provide people with a fun experience in order to make the most out of it.
All three of the main villains in the original trilogy wield magic in some capacity and prefer to simply blast energy at their adversaries, were aspiring or actual figures of authority - and last but not least, are thin-skinned assholes that got wrecked (or slain) by a snarky, adventurous preteen who loves to help people and has a myriad of fucking awesome powers up his sleeve.
Gnasty doesn't (or can’t) freeze Spyro in crystal, and the Sorceress won't banish him halfway around the world unless your copy of the original YOTD had its piracy flags set off, nor will she attempt to transmogrify him into her newest attack dog...
...and I guess Ripto showcases more of an actual repetoire in his battle than he does during RR’s cutscenes.
Pastel colours and skyboxes made from colouring vertices give the Spyro series (or at least the PS1 trilogy) its trademark visual charm and Stewart Copeland’s synths are the cherry on top; but if I want to grasp at straws, there’s a couple of places that might be worth bringing up during this spiel.

Crystal Islands, the most surreal environment Midnight Mountain has to offer, is populated by stage magicians who transformed it into the titular realm of crystalline fauna and flora by fooling around with stolen magic.

Attack of the Rhynocs, while its wildly out-of-character rendition of Bianca has yet to be reused to this day, also gave us Rabbit Habitat - a realm that demonstrates what it might be like if a birthday party could be a biome. Crystal Islands’ gnome wizards would be right at home here with all the decorations and props about.
Hopefully I wouldn’t be too outlandish if I were to suggest that many kids were introduced to the concept of all things arcane through stage magic. In a world where magic actually exists, maybe you could consider it sorcery as an artform.
Point is, the best magic users always keep their grasp on the childhood mirth that lead them to where they are now.

THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES OMGG
Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs - Professor’s Secret Lab / Rhynocs n Clocks:
“Here’s two levels, for the price of one. Both of these levels are short and don’t have much to offer. Professor’s Lab is mediocre, but the Rhynocs N Clocks levels has such a cool color scheme and theme. Too bad both levels don’t do much with their concepts.”
PS: the gameplay used for this gifset is not mine. The original video belongs to the user: Newfie Bangaa, on Youtube.

Was rereading Sex education and had this scenario pop into my head after they're all mated and whatnot, and the hoomans likes gaming for purposes let's go with the Spyro reignited trilogy, and they've been up all night tryin to 100% which I'll have you know is a pain in the ass
Neytiri and Jake*entering the outpost to take their human mate out with them*
Jake:Y/n, darlin! Come on!
Y/n: Uh-huh. Give me a minute.
Neytiri: Have you been up all night?
Y/n: No, it's okay. The cat's got it with the salad.
Jake and and Neytiri: What?
Y/N: I already put— I, uh— the— wh— the French toast.
Neytiri: Y/n!*she turns the game off*;This is getting absurd! You stay up all night, and you...!
Jake: Y/n, stop.*shuts it off again, and this time unplugs the whole thing after removing the game*
Y/n: But, guys, I need to fight the the rhynocs, and egg thieves to save the dragon babies if I want to beat the sorceress and beat the game!!*as well as a jumbled mess of the games plot*
[a beat, and a confused Neytiri before she shakes her head]
Neytiri: No! You're taking a break! Lest you start threatening the bouncy purple thing's family and threatening to break things....again. Besides we wanted to spend time with you, you're game will just have to wait
Y/n:oh fuck my game let's go.
omg not spyro 😭 my friend used to play that all the time when we were kids, but i was so bad at it. so the only game we ever played when i was at his house was that game worms? i think it was called worms. like, it was about worms at war with machine guns and everything?
imagine trying to explain that to your big blue alien s/o's fhkhgkhgka

"I have faced gnorcs, lava lizards, rhynocs, apes, dark gods, and even robots. But this…. this is new to me."
~ Spyro the Dragon
General Info:
Name: Darianius I Starshine (dar-ria-ni-us) Titles: Purple Dragon of Legend Age: 16-480 (verse dependent) Birthday: 10th September Race: Rare Purple Dragon Morality Alignment: Lawful Good Gender: Male Sexuality: Asexual Occupation: Last Purple Dragon Weapon: The Aetherforce Handedness: Left-handed Height: 5 foot 6 inches Eye Color: Magenta Hair Color: None Misc: To be determined...
Personality:
Spyro is a quiet and stoic former hero, yet when push comes to shove he can be quite wrathful and violent. He has a hidden dark side, and due to this curse he burdens, he can channel dark magic through himself to become Shadow Spyro, a fearsome foe on the battlefield, yet Spyro must work hard to not let darkness consume him, otherwise he runs the risk of becoming a multiversal threat. Learning the truth of his existence brutally stunned him to his very core, alas he is more than being the son of an evil dragon.
Being used by the Dragons Elders in the war against The Dark Master left quite the impact on him, having witnessed things no other young dragon should witness. These events in his life gave him Shell shock and he also suffers from Schizophrenia as he still feels Malefor's presence even though he is dead, though he might be deluded, what he feels is real to him. So take heed and don't dismiss this.
When first meeting him, he can come off partially self-righteous, callous, and even arrogant. As you can see the years have not been kind to him, he has lost so much; his father figure, his best friend, and even his biological mom is gone. It's no wonder he appears bitter and solemn upon first glance, for even his own kind ( the purple dragons ) are not very friendly, not even to him. He's just so disappointed in his ancestors, that he expresses his inner rage to those who barely know him, which puts them off.
He does this solely to guard himself, he doesn't want others to get hurt ( or worse; killed ) because of him. Yet if you're patient, you'll get to see glimpses of the old Spyro, who was a friendly and carefree individual back in the day. Part of himself misses the whimsical and cheery days of childhood, but he knows he can never go back to that. No matter how hard he has tried.
Stand by him and you'll be grateful you did, sure he has some issues to work out, but he's not all bad. He really can be a good friend and ally to you, you just have to wait. For as long there is evil in the universe, he will continue to fight, even in his retirement.
Backstory:
Ancient History In order to understand the history of the rare purple dragon known as Spyro, one must first understand the nature of the Chromatic Dragons. For long ago, during the Great War the dark wizard Strykore devoured the light energy of his ancestors, Master Eon was then forced to seal the dragons away by using powers far beyond his control, sending them to an unknown realm in order to save the Core of Light. Though many centuries have passed since the Great War between light and dark, Spyro's ancestors remain evil. These purple dragons are immensely powerful creatures who consider themselves the lords of all dragonkin. For many years Master Eon was forced to withold the truth from Spyro the Dragon, who fought tooth and nail to keep his ancestors a secret.
Long ago when Dragon civilization was still young, a prophecy was made about the birth of a new purple dragon; this purple dragon being Alfaeor. In ancient times a new era was about to unfold in where this purple dragon was worshipped by dragons, moles, and cheetahs alike, they saw him as their great protector. Yet that age fell to ruin when Alfaeor was corrupted by his own immense powers and later sealed away in the Shadowlands.
1000 years after another purple dragon was born… Spyro! His egg was brought into existence by Malefor and his mate Sophia. When he hatched Sophia was astonished by his bright purple scales, but Malefor knew the truth of his existence, and was rather angry that his era was over thanks to his newborn son. Malefor sought to kill the wyrmling at any cost. But in secrecy, Sophia saved him by sending him to Skylands. Another part of the ancient prophecies was created by the Oracle of Skylands, stating that a brave hero would destroy the Dark Lord forever. Whether this refered to Spyro or Hex isn't really known. Over the years, Spyro was raised to believe he was "the Chosen One", something that only served to inflate his ego. It wasn't until Master Eon had enough of Spyro's arrogance, that he stripped him of his fire breath and banished him to Earth to learn humility, and hopefully see him make some friends too. These friends that Spyro would make were a high elf princess and vampiric noble, they went on to become an awesome team together.
Modern History For roughly 400 years, Spyro was in exile on Earth. He has witnessed quite a fair bit during that; the American Revolution, WWI, and even WWII from afar. He refused to interfere in human affairs, because as dragon, they would have freaked out and tried to slay him. And by the 1970s, Spyro came to encounter Prof. Gerald Robotnik and Shadow, but all hell broke lose when G.U.N. targeted Shadow. An event that led to Maria's death, in a blind rage Shadow attacked Spyro and G.U.N. Spyro attempted to fight Shadow but no avail, it was useless without his fire magic. Spyro got his butt handed to him by the "Ultimate Lifeform". Sometime later, during the 1980s, Spyro still felt bad over previous events, if only he had his powers, then he could have saved Maria.
By the 1990s, Spyro was still stuck on Earth, which frustrated him to no end, he wanted to go home. On one peaceful day, the other Dragons and him were having an interview with DNN. Everything was fine until Lindar opened his mouth and called Gnasty Gnorc "ugly" on live television, only for Gnasty Gnorc to become enraged and encase every dragon in crystal (except for Spyro), an event which prompted Spyro to travel the Five Worlds, defeat Gnasty Gnorc, and liberate the Dragon Realms. All which he did. Following the returned freedom of the Dragons, Spyro felt he did need a vaction at the beach. But then a voice spoke to him, it was Master Eon, though he was proud of his appentice's recent deeds, felt that Spyro still had a lot to learn in life, and so sent him to Avalar. Where he came face-to-race with the jerk Ripto and once he was defeated, Spyro went back home to Dragon Realms to rest up. It was here, that Master Eon finally approached Spyro and allowed him to come back home to Skylands.
Now back in the lofty dimension of Skylands, Spyro felt happy to be back. This was his home, not Earth. However, everything would change when Kaos came into the picture, alongside Malefor. The Dragon Elders, Princess Elyssa II and Lucilla Tepes were there to help Spyro at least. Because of the war, Spyro is still haunted by his murder of Gaul and his psychological tourture from Malefor. Yet once the war was over, Spyro decided to retire from heroics, he was done saving the world from evil-doers, he was tired. Thus began a new chapter of Spyro's life, one marked by simplicity and freedom from his past endeavors. It was then he witnessed Master Eon's passing from old age, though he was sad, Spyro knew he had to move on somehow. But things only got worse from there, next he lost his longtime best friend Maddy the Hedgehog. This absolutely broke his heart, and sought to reverse time to save her. It wasn't until then that his other friends Princess Elyssa II and Lucilla Tepes brought him back to his senses, that he decided to stand down and accept Maddy was gone.
From then onward, Spyro sought to erase certain memories he possesed (all the death's he had witnessed over the years), needless to say, it worked all too well for him. After that, an old foe from Spyro's past returned; Ripto. Once again forced to confront his past, Spyro fought Ripto again, only this time Ripto was far more determinded and bloodthirsty to destroy dragons than previously. Finally, it was time Spyro died in Ripto's eyes, and he did. Ripto defeated Spyro at long last. But yet… Spyro's spirit survived the battle and ascended to Mount Celestia, where he met Bahamut the Dragon King. Here Bahamut restored Spyro to life, while giving him a boost in power, he unlocked Spyro's Aetherforce abilties. From Bahamut heard about tales of his purple dragon ancestors, Spyro then set out to find them back on the Prime Material Plane and when he arrived in the Underdark, he was met by Drizzt Do'Urden who assumed he was evil, until Spyro explained he was a do-gooder to the Drow ranger. Drizzt then told Spyro some shocking news, purple dragons like him were evil, which Spyro refused to believe at first, but then later learned he wasn't lying. His own kin really were evil after all, this is where Spyro started to become more world-weary and cynical. He was disappointed greatly in his ancestors, he also began to doubt himself, wondering if he'd ever end up like them.
By 2025, Spyro fled to Earth to reflect upon all that has transpired. He was just about fed up with everything, fate had been cruel to him his whole existence, and questioned why he was even here. Would things ever get better for him? He didn't know at this point, he had barely scratched the surface with his newly awakened powers.

16 for the fandom ask
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
I'll avoid the joke answer of "canon in general" and go with... the value Sonic sees in his friends.
Given fans and certain adaptations alike have had him treat Tails, Knuckles, etc like punching bags and/or scapegoats, or he's forced to learn the value of teamwork despite him being infamous for the real superpower of teamwork, it'd be nice if more folk got reacquainted with the trust and respect that is clearly present with Game Sonic.
For Spyro, it's been a common joke for years that in Spyro 2, Ripto doesn't actually do anything beyond taking over the homeworld castles, since there's no prominent mook species like the Gnorcs and Rhynocs, and he's never mentioned directly in any of the levels. That's a funny thought and all, but the unused dialogue for the level cutscenes have since confirmed that he is indeed responsible for the goings on in each of the levels (sending the water workers to Sunny Beach and Aquaria Towers, sending the warlocks to Cloud Temples, instigating the war between Breeze Harbour and Zephyr, etc). But even before said unused dialogue was unearthed, it always seemed like the obvious conclusion to me. Why would things be any different in this game compared to Gnasty Gnorc in the first one, and the Sorceress in the third?

So the sonas got a makeover! My fiance's sona, Arc is a Ryhnoc. He's witty, but doesn't show that too often as he's very shy. However, he will often attempt to make friends with others. Given the right environment he proves to be a very honest and reliable companion to those he considers close.
Though the Ryhnoc race isn't very fleshed out, I like to believe that the Rhynocs hold a lot of pride in the professions they choose. It's how I can justify they're jump from the Sorceress, to Grendor (canon?), to Ripto. Anyway, at some point a group of Rhynocs got sick of the cycle and branched off and advanced on their own. We have a little headcanon that the Rhynocs managed to advance themselves enough to travel to other planets and dimensions to find work after the events of "Year of the Dragon". But we haven't really figured out how Arc would meet Pockets yet. That's not too important at the moment.
-----
Pockets is a retcon of my Fenomenan sonas Blankey and Jack. Their personality is a mix of the two. Pockets can pass for your average social person, but in reality they really would prefer to keep the conversations short when talking with someone they're not familiar with. Brief interactions are their preference, but will hold the communication if it's absolutely required. To friends, this is the exact opposite. They love to communicate and Pockets is more likely to reach out. Funny noises and mild pranks are their bread and butter. They stand at 4'10".
The headcanon that I have on Fenomenans is that they are a species of slime folk who's culture is mainly based around the clown, mime, jester, joker, etc(yes, juggalos count) stereotypes. Be it the good, bad, and the ugly. (Utopias are hard to come up with) Depending on the culture, they will dress in the race(?) attire while either sticking to the traditional look or adding to it, depending on family groups.
-----
Fun past headcanon: The original headcanon was a bit more sad for the Fenomenans and the Norms. My idea for why there were no Fenomenans (at the time) was due to an event that caused Fenomenon to suffer distortions in space/time on parts of the planet. The "Nitro Fueled" track "Out of time" is the main inspiration. Originally, it was supposed to be wumpa fruit but, when out of time came out, I had changed it to be caused by a very bizarre purple fruit.~
Small Norm was affected by said event, leading the unintended creation of Big Norm and his hoarding/protecting of books. It's the final records of his species, and he's attempting to keep the culture alive through himself. However, through his interactions with Emperor Velo, he gained a strong distrust of outsiders and refuses to share what knowledge that is currently left. (I'll type a whole thing on it eventually.)
N. Fo was a bit of a foil to Small Norm in the story, being fascinated by the possibility of bettering the tech that caused the event to further advance other civilizations, but also doing it out of his own arrogance of wanting to achieve something to advance the galaxtic technologies and make a name for himself. (This is the brief outline btw)
I'm considering just making this it's own separate AU as I think the story I had was interesting, but a bit too much for the tone of the Crash Bandicoot series. I literally stopped with the comic because it was getting a bit too dark as I got too invested in these characters.
All this over rerolling in the shop to do story mode with Moe, just to discover the Norms... Just to never beat all of story mode with Moe.
#myart#crash bandicoot oc#crash bandicoot fanart#I have some projects that I'll be starting after January due to an important date#but my new year's resolution is to commit and at least complete one of them as I have not done animation in almost a decade#Also Arc was not home to stop me from putting a shirt on him!#also I need to just make standalone lore post instead of dumping them below my art#ArcPockets!
