Part Five:

You opened the stall to face Robin, she held out her arms to embrace you. You collapsed into her and she nearly fell onto the tile floor. She squeezed you tighter and let you bawl your eyes out. “It’s okay, these assholes here just believe anything.” You sniffled and pulled away, wiping your nose and looking back at her. Her eyes tearful as well, her face contorted with concern. “What have they been saying about me Robin?” She drew in a deep breath that raised her shoulders towards the ceiling.

“Chris McDowell has been telling everyone that last night you came over to his place and that you were giving him a blow job when Eddie came by and once you saw the ecstasy he brought you hailed with him and started having sex in his van right in front of Chris’ house.” You could feel your face burning, your hands clenched so tight you felt your nails draw blood, your teeth clenched that you could hear them cracking. “What!” “Hey I know it’s not true and so does Steve, most people with a brain would dismiss this rumor and know it’s something Chris made up.” “Problem is almost half of Hawkins is without brains it seems because they believe him! And how did he explain the busted nose, black eye and split lip from when I decked him?” “He said Eddie knocked him out when he tried to bring you back inside. Wait you’re the one who gave him the face lift? Can I hug you again because that face of his is pretty beat up. How many times did you hit him?” “Just once.” “Nice!” “Robin serious how am I supposed to go out there now, I’m going to kill Chris.”

Robin braced herself between you and the door, “Listen as much as I would love to see that and I know you can do it. You will probably only make things worse.” “Robin, you know this will get around town right?” “It pretty much already has, I mean I found out before school even started. I was swinging by the store to grab my wallet from my uniform and Keith was telling me about it.” “Oh god Robin my mom will hear about this!” “It’s fine you just explain to her what happened and how Eddie was just trying to help you last night…” “Robin I came home late last night, after I was with Eddie! People probably saw him drive me home because as we can tell Hawkins definitely likes to spy on their citizens.” “So?” “My mom has no idea I was with a guy much less Eddie Munson!” “She doesn’t like Eddie?” “She doesn’t like any guy and I’m sure she’s heard of his reputation; so no definitely not.

Robin puffed out her cheeks as she released a breath, she banged her head against the door and closed her eyes. “Maybe I can say you were with me?” “But it’s too late, if our neighbor Mrs. O’Brian saw Eddie’s van in front of her house and me getting out, my mom is more inclined to believe that over you covering for me.” “So what are you going to do?” You looked over to the large mirror over the sinks; your face had already showed signs of being out late and now adding the crying to the mix; you looked like an old spinster teacher. You just wanted to go home, actually you wanted to go home with Eddie and have him hold you close while you cried and watched an alien creature pursue Kurt Russel. “I’m just going to leave and try and get some sleep.” “Leave? You sure they’ll let you?” “Maybe I can say I need to visit the clinic in Indianapolis, they may believe that.”

The walk to the main office was unbearable; the lunch bell had run to dismiss the student body into the hallway, they all stared and whispered amongst themselves as you approached. You concealed your face under your mess of hair as best as you could and tried to cover your ears but the conversations were so loud.

“Look at her, god she and her freak boyfriend are so disgusting.”

“Figures Munson would end up with a junkie, but damn poor Chris. That guy is such a good dude. She could’ve at least let him finish.”

“I told you she was trouble, wanted all the attention on her when she could. Using her body as a means to get what she wants. So pathetic.”

“Do you think she and Munson will have a freak baby?” “With three heads?” “Probably; that freak would love the shit out of that thing because it would resemble something from his weird books.”

That probably would be true; not because it would be like a fantasy character but because Eddie would love his child no matter what they looked like. Three heads, no arms, anything; he was just a good guy, which is more than you could say for the population of Hawkins High.

You finally reached the door when a tug at your arm pulled you away. Eddie looked at you urgently, his eyes bright red; meaning he was either stoned again or he had been crying.m, you weren’t sure which. “Can I talk to you for a minute?” “Not right now Eddie, I need to go home?” “What’s wrong?” You looked up at him and gestured towards the crowd, some of whom had formed a small circle around the two of you. “Who gives a fuck what these idiots think. You can’t run away when things get difficult like this F/N.” “I can, and that’s what I’m doing. I just want to go home and get some rest before the Calvary comes home.” “What’s wrong do you mean?” “Eddie my mom is one thousand percent going to hear about this. She’s going to learn all she can about you and that will be the end of it. No more us, no dates no nothing.” “Well how about I meet her and let her get to know me, I’m sure she’ll…” “No! Eddie this whole thing was a mistake.”

Eddie backed himself against the wall. He crossed his arms over his chest and took in a huge breath. “What do you mean? Like everything including… me?” You sighed, looking at Eddie suddenly so vulnerable and weak was not anything on you expected to see. “Yes. I shouldn’t have gone to your place, I shouldn’t have gone to the party, and I shouldn’t have… shouldn’t have…” You looked at his face and down to his lips, he tightened them together to hide the fullness of them and looked down to his feet. “Gotcha. You regret the whole decision. That’s fair, like I said…” he choked on the air he sucked in, “You deserve the best. And that never was me.” “Can you please let me go?” He nodded and stepped aside to let you in the office.

Surprisingly the staff didn’t even ask why you wanted to leave, they never called your mom at the mayor’s office and never asked for a written excuse. They just let you go. They wished you to feel better but even you could tell their tone wasn’t sincere like the time you were throwing up in class last year; they were glad to have you leave. When you walked back into the hall it was virtually empty besides one person. “You need a ride home at least? I can skip biology today. I’ve dissected a frog enough times.” His smile was soft but definitely forced. Part of you wanted to say no and the other part knew this would be the last time you’d see him and you didn’t want things to end like they were. You nodded as Eddie walked off to the parking lot.

He never turned the radio on, never looked at you, and never said a word. Compared to last night you would never guess you two had been close at all; you were almost like strangers rather than potential boyfriend and girlfriend. Would Eddie even have nursed the idea of being a boyfriend, especially a boyfriend to you? You knew Eddie wasn’t a virgin or inexperienced in the world of women; just like this rumor, word had gotten around, but also you heard his friends from Corroded Coffin talk about the girls who’d seen them perform at The Hideout that he’d hooked up with. Sex he could do, but relationships, was that even something he’d want?

When he pulled up to your house you glanced over to the driveway; thankfully the station wagon was not there yet. Mom definitely hadn’t been informed and you could go to your room without the interrogation. You sat still for a moment, never reaching for the door handle and occasionally glancing towards Eddie who also refused to move, the silence deafening now and you were about to burst if one of you didn’t say anything. “Don’t you want to get inside?” “I’m sorry.” He looked back to you, his eyes still red but wet now. Had he been crying the whole time he was driving you home? “I’m sorry I led you on Eddie. I do like you, and I wish I could explain it all to you but I can’t. It’s just best we end it before things get worse for you.”

“F/N. I play in a heavy metal band, I have longer hair than you do, I have a Dungeons and Dragons club which I designed the shirts for, I read the Lord of The Rings, I did magic as a kid, my favorite movie is The Black Cauldron and I have to deal drugs to help my uncle pay the bills but he doesn’t know about it.” You wiped your nose and looked down at your feet, Eddie reached out and lifted your chin to look at him again. “My life isn’t exactly easy; and never was. But you would’ve never made it worse. If anything you may have been the best thing that ever happened to me.” You leaned over and planted a kiss on him, it wasn’t passionate, or playful; but more of a deep yearning kiss. Your lips never parted and neither did his, you felt your tears mix together at the corners of your mouths adding a saltiness to the kiss. You broke the kiss and opened the door in one quick movement. “Goodbye Eddie.” You cried as you sprinted up to the door.

McFarlane Toys confirms Wave 10 of their Batman 66 line will feature the "Batman 66 meets Wonder Woman 77" version of Nightwing, an eleven years older Burt Ward Robin, who has now taken on a more contemporary look for 1977 even down to the hairy chest and wide collared tunic with zipper that goes a LONG way down!

They are also adding one of my favourite Batman '66 one-shot villains, Roddy McDowell's magnificent Bookworm

Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles

Arkady Duvall

Born sometime in the mid-1800’s, Arkady Duvall was the son of Ra's al Ghul and an unnamed mother.  As a young man, Duvall studied in Heidelberg where he excelled as a master fencer.  He demonstrated an arrogance and poor temper that left his father believing him unfit to take leadership over the Society of Shadows.  Instead, Duvall was sent to America to tend to Society business of less import.  

Whilst in America, Duvall assaulted and possibly murdered a woman, earning a two hundred dollar bounty on his head.  He fled to Devil's Hole, a small outpost in the American Southwest where his father had begun an operation to stymie the burgeoning railroad system.  He was tracked by the bounty hunter known as Jonah Hex who sought to collect on the warrant.  

In Devil's Hole, Ra's al Ghul had built ‘The Phoenix’ a heavily armed dirigible meant to destroy the freshly laid railroad tracks.  Duvall was assigned to secure the airship.  Hex attempted to apprehend Duvall leading to a tremendous battle that resulted in the crash and destruction of The Phoenix.  Disappointed in his son’s failure, Ra's al Ghul fled leaving Duvall behind.  

Hex hauled Duvall back to civilization where he was sentenced to life in prison.  Exposure to The Lazarus Pit earlier in his life enabled Duvall to live an elongated lifespan and he was ultimately transferred to a nursing facility.

Ra's al Ghul had lost track of Duvall’s whereabouts and finally rediscovered him in the modern age.  He sent his minions to collect the aged Duvall leading to an altercation with Batman and Robin.  Upon learning of Duvall’s origins and considering that he had been reduced to a frail and demented shell of a man, Batman decided to allow Ra’s to take his son so that he might be better cared for in his final years.  

The fantastic Malcolm McDowell provided the voice for Arkady Duvall with the cad appearing in the seventeenth episode of the second season of Batman: The Animated Series, ‘Showdown.’

This telegram petitioned the Department of Labor and their decision to deport Emmeline Pankhurst, a British suffragette. The authors wanted the board to reconsider and maintain "America's devotion to liberty."

Ok, spill the beans about this Mad Mod blorbo of yours. Gimme the details

aaaaaaaa!!!!!! oh my gosh yes yes yes thank you for the opportunity i would love to gush about him - and hopefully get some other people interested 🙈🙈🙈 prepare for an infodump!!!

this is Mad Mod, real name Neil Richards: a brilliant, stylish villain, and an iconic enemy of the Teen Titans!! now, Mad Mod's been around for a while, first appearing in Teen Titans #7 as a fashion designer-turned-smuggler working on Carnaby Street, and later with a more hipster design in the New 52 DC comics. however, the version you'll see me yelling about most (and i think that most are familiar with) is the Mad Mod from the 2003 animated Teen Titans show (see above) 💖

Mad Mod is very much emblematic of his name: he's a crazy British bad guy whose aesthetic, interests and personality are influenced by 60's Mod culture. he speaks with a pronounced Cockney accent (voiced by Malcolm McDowell, who you may know as Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange), dresses in trim, fashionable, Mod-style suits and other outfits (e.g., military parkas), and is an extreme Anglophile: believing British culture and values (ostensibly Mod culture, but also Britain and/or England as a monolith) are superior to others. his original beef with the Teen Titans is their lack of manners: Mad Mod believes them to be poorly behaved, and in need of 'teaching' and 'correcting' (please make no assumptions about me or my taste from this 🙈).

i think Mad Mod is fascinating for a lot of reasons, with the first being his incredible technological capabilities. you see, Mad Mod is not technically the young man you see in the image above: he's actually well past middle-age, but is capable of constructing high-tech illusions using gadgets, robots and screens (shown to be controlled using his ruby-topped cane, which he is quite proficient with!). in Teen Titans, Mad Mod is first shown projecting this younger version of himself as a hologram in a constructed, confusing labyrinth which mimics a school. behind the scenes, Mad Mod - physically an old man - is using this younger version as an avatar to torment the Teen Titans. however, later on Mad Mod devises a technology which allows him to steal youth from other people. in the episode Revolution, Mad Mod steals Robin's youth, reverting his own physical form to a younger version - confirming that the Mad Mod we see in his debut episode is how he looked when he was younger: the skinny, suited redhead with the pretty smile 😉

a lot of people will remember Mad Mod for one thing: the hypnosis. a big gimmick of Mad Mod's is his use of custom-built hypnoscreens: large screens which play repetitive spirals intended to hypnotise and/or brainwash the observer. his goals expand beyond just trying to hypnotise the Teen Titans into being more well-behaved; he later attempts to brainwash them and the entirety of Jump City into believing the American Revolution never happened, and that he is actually their English king. with regards to his love of Britain and England, Mad Mod is...not particularly well-adjusted, and i'm saying that as a Brit 🙈💖

a lot of people are very taken by the unique design of Mad Mod's episodes - specifically his chase sequences, which contain fun references to popular British culture (like Monty Python and The Beatles). taken to be an avant-garde extension of the giant illusions he builds, Mad Mod's style borrows a good deal from 60's pop art, and uses stark, black-and-white imagery with noticeably different rendering than other characters and backgrounds. it's honestly really cool!!! you may recognise a similar art style used in Across the Spider-Verse with Spider-Punk, AKA Hobie Brown 🔥

everything about Mad Mod is explicitly British (particularly English), but his view of Britishness and correct behaviour is both out-dated and extraordinarily narrow. i theorise this is because he never quite reconciled with growing older and the Mod subculture going out of style...he's obsessed with regaining his youth, and despite being The Most British Thing Since Austin Powers, he continues to live in America and push a very odd, caricatured idea of Britishness onto other people that is unique to his worldview. as Cyborg sums up neatly, "Man, I bet even real British people don't like you!"

but, all of that lore aside - you came to know why Mad Mod is my latest blorbo!!! well...just look at him 🥴 he's capital e 'Evil' with a penchant for tying people up and absolutely no respect for other people's personal space 🥺💖 he also has that attractive combo of being abrasive and degrading, whilst also being soft and elegant. not to mention he's a total goofball;;; there's nothing i love more than a villain who's having a great time, and he is having a blast 🙈

you know this guy is Tumblr Sexyman material too: the suits, the cane-twirling, the crazy powers...who cares that he's actually a grandpa? sexualising old men is a national sport on this website 😂 on a physical level he hits a lot of beats for me...gangly, bespectacled (with tinted lenses!!!!!), ginger and crooked teeth??? man 😳😳😳 it doesn't help that i've already had a handful of f/os who are meant to represent a specific decade/style/etc, one of whom is literally Austin Powers;;; my taste is terrible, but consistent 😂😂 all in all, please visualise little cartoon hearts coming off my icon whenever you see me posting about this freak 🥰🥰🥰 if you're a lover of silly villains too, the DCAU is a great place to look!! shout out to my pal @iriso-page for sending the fateful ask that triggered my fixation in a cascade 🙈 thanks so much for sending this in - hopefully this causes a couple other people to check him out too 😉
