Dude I gotta stop making myself fucking cry.
Back on that animatronic rant so here we are (I think this counts as robot whump?).
Cw: robot whump, isolation, abandonment, optimism that results in very strong denial, please let me know if I miss anything!
The park has been out of date for years now. 3,437 days, 3 hours, 51 minutes, and 9 seconds (counting).
Of course, that’s not gonna stop Whumpee. They just have to keep the park as well kept as possible, and eventually, people will start coming back. Everything will be back to normal, with people visiting from all over just to meet them and their friends! They’ll be able to entertain again! Just as it used to be! And they’d just had two visitors! Granted, they’d left a bit early and a bit quicker than expected, but they were still visitors!
Their programming insists that everything is fine; the crumbling of the buildings is just renovations being prepared for, the overgrown weeds in the cracks of the concrete are just to make the park feel more natural, his friends are just resting. Everything is normal, the park is just closed for a bit so the renovations can be made! That’s all!
They walk into the theater, flipping a switch, watching as the lights flicker a bit before barely turning on, casting an eerie, dim glow over the rows and rows of seats. The stage is barely illuminated, with most of the stage lights burnt out or broken, the few that are still working either flickering weakly or simply giving off a glow that really only gives the glass a tiny bit of color.
“Hey guys!” They call out, their voice glitching. They walk unsteadily towards the stage, their legs occasionally buckling a little before they manage to drag them forward.
They look up at the figures on the stage. Whumpee 2 is standing on the far end, their eyes completely dark. Their expression is still in a smile, their hand up in the air as though waving hello or goodbye.
Whumpee 3 is closer to Whumpee 2, their eyes the exact same as the latter. Their expression looks a lot softer, less proud than Whumpee 2’s. Their hands are clasped in front of them, a smile on their face, their mouth open as if they’re about to speak.
Whumpee 4 is closer to the front of the stage, almost in the middle, their arms splayed out to the sides like a ringmaster welcoming the guests of the circus. Their face looks proud, but more of a gentle kind of proud than Whumpee 2’s expression. They look content.
Whumpee 1 laughs a little. “You’re not gonna believe this, but we had visitors! Real visitors! It’s been so long, they were so excited!”
They walk forward and heave their metal frame up onto the stage. “You all would’ve loved them, I’m sure. They were two teenagers, a boy and a girl. I think they came to try and escape their parents for a little night out,” they continue with a chuckle. Even though the two visitors had been adults, Whumpee 1’s optics aren’t in the best shape; their system is outdated by a landslide, their parts are in need of repair, some in need of replacing, and their voice box has definitely seen better days. Their programming insists that they had been teenagers.
“You would’ve loved them especially, Whumpee 2,” they say optimistically, going over to their shut-down friend and wrapping an arm around their frame. “They were so nice, and they were so excited! You would’ve loved to show them the rides. Especially yours!”
The only response they got was silence, the only thing breaking the noise being the whirring and creaking of their own metallic joints.
“And Whumpee 3, they would’ve loved you! They seemed a little scared of me,” they add with a sheepish look, “but you would’ve easily been able to reassure them. You’ve always been great with kids!”
Again. Silence.
They stumble over to Whumpee 4, stepping off the stage and looking directly up at them. They pause for a moment, a bit of nostalgia hitting them. “And you would’ve been so proud of them, Whumpee 4,” they say softly. “They were just the kind of people you’d want them to be. You would’ve been honored to perform for them. They’d have loved to meet you, I’m sure.”
Nothing.
Whumpee 1 sighs, getting back up on the stage and standing beside Whumpee 4, staring out at the empty theater.
They smile a little. “Once the park’s renovations are done, it’ll be filled with people and kids, and we’ll get to perform again. Everything will go back to normal.”
“Just like it used to be.”

The last time I ran FATE, which was several years ago, I think my players wanted to approach it in full-time gamer mode, but they wanted to use crunchy numbers for that, and they couldn't find enough enough numbers to crunch, so they ended up just wanting to play a different game where they could deal 300 damage in one hit instead.
So what about FATE? How is it not universal as an RPG?
The biggest non-universal dimension of FATE – at least in its modern incarnations – is that it has a very strong set of baked-in assumptions about the relationship between players and player characters.
This is something I've talked about in the past; to somewhat oversimplify, there are roughly four ways for a player in a tabletop RPG to relate to their character:
The Isekai Stance: I am my character, and my character is me. I'll have my character do whatever I myself would do if I happened to be, for example, an elf wizard.
The Actor Stance: I'm an actor, and my character is my role. I'll have my character do what I feel it would be psychologically realistic for them to do under the circumstances.
The Storyteller Stance: I'm a narrator telling a story, and my character is the co-protagonist of that story. I'll have my character do whatever I feel would make for the most interesting story.
The Gamer Stance: I'm a person playing a game, and my character is my playing-piece. I'll do whatever it takes to win.
This generally isn't a useful way to classify either players or games; games typically have weak baked-in assumptions about which stance their players will adopt, and to the extent that these assumptions are present, a game may make different default assumptions for different parts of play. A common set of assumptions is actor mode outside of combat and gamer mode in combat, for example.
FATE is, of course, an exception to the rule, in that it has very strong baked-in assumptions about what stance players will adopt toward their characters, and further assumes that play will occur at least mostly in this mode. The Fate Point economy that forms the core of the gameplay loop 100% assumes that you're going to be playing in storyteller nearly all of the time – the types of decisions it's asking players to make on a moment-by-moment basis are frequently straight up unintelligible from any other perspective.
This is a big part of why suggesting FATE because it can "do anything" can go over like a lead balloon: the folks making this suggestion aren't taking into account the possibility that a given group's players may not vibe with the system's assumptions about how players relate to their characters. Storyteller-mode-all-the-time is actually a fairly uncommon group play style, and it often seems that FATE fans don't realise this!

your head slams against the mech’s ceiling, and your vision blurs for a second. a troubled robotic voice keeps reading out statistics, leftwing engine down, visors breaking off, remaining web fluid at 17%, and enemy still engaged.
you have to wince, pushing your head against the whiplash, slamming a half-ripped off metal leg at the large metallic eyeball staring keenly in your direction. mysterio’s been trouble before but… you’ve gotten soft.
a thin wisp of gas permeates the suit’s vents, and sp//dr’s robotic droning takes an almost human, frantic quality. “air quality has been compromised,” it hisses, “(name), pulling out of battle is optimal.” you’ve got to ignore it, you think with strain, a thin string of web leaping out at the building behind mysterio, there are people in more danger than you.
pulling harshly on the string, you can hear the noisy clank of metal as the mech-suit’s arm bolts creak under the pressure, and propel yourself at the sphere. and you do it again, to the left, again, from the right, while sp//dr’s voice reads out the remaining fluid clerically.
"16%", slam it into the concrete building next to you, it makes a dent, "15%", swing it into a billboard, people are screaming, "14%", jump up into the sky on your- the suit’s- good leg, "13%" shoot out two strings to the ground besides mysterio-
"12%", slam him into the concrete, shattering the road under him. you’re running out of air. the sphere breaks a little, curling inwards like a cracked egg. you have to disarm mysterio- before he floods the streets with the brain toxin that-
that’s currently bypassed your filtration systems.
the suit takes a staggering step towards a boy inside the vessel, his head encompassed by a globe of white, a single eye etched and staring. you barely hear his “you’re taller in person”, more focused on another voice whispering to you.
‘make me nothing’, it says, it’s your father's voice. no, it’s sp//dr’s voice. a hand reaches up on its own, crushing a drone, ‘i’m a teenage weapon’. it’s your voice, your head, sp//dr. you can barely breathe, another hand sending a drone flying into the thin walls around you. "safe inside the colours", his face looks at you in pity, admiration.
it’s a familiar look.
you stiffen, your mind clearing to sp//dr’s warnings. ‘i don’t need your love, boy.’ the suit’s arm slams against his skull, and he falls to the ground, with a strangled; “my voice!”.

“did you ever get the mix-disc i made you?” he slurs, his cracked glasses breaking.
you don’t wake up with a jolt. there’s no chain of anxiety that hits you, no spider-sense going off. you’re well tucked under heavy covers when you open your eyes, rigid in your sleep. not in the suit, you haven’t been in it for a while. it’s sill broken, and you’re not… not at work. not right now.
it doesn’t feel natural waking up in the manor. you’ve been opening your eyes to the posters your roommate put up on your walls, insisting on brighter decor. grown used to waking to sounds of chatter, maybe the radio, or the school bell telling you were devastatingly late to class and would be reprimanded for it.
you’re not used to waking up to neat wallpaper in a dark, old room. in the house you’ve barely lived in, barely wanted to live in. wayne manor is a sad place, and you're suddenly glad they send you away for most of the year.
summer vacations are the most miserable time of the year, everyone being sent home or off on vacation with their parents until they come back for next term. all the time you're stuck going to a manor you don’t want to be in, in a city you’re close to hating, with people who’ve made it too obvious they don’t want you here. they never say it to your face. but you know well enough.
but- but this time it’s different. this break, you won’t go to trouble tim with a puzzle you’d hope would interest him, one he’d take from you with a nod, and never think about again. you won’t go watch jason sneak into the pantry from a distance, trying to muster up the courage to talk to him and inevitably fail each time, as he swiftly left again. you won’t even offer to ask alfred if you could help him tend to the garden, only for him to smile pitiably gently at you and ask you if you’d 'rather not spend your time having more fun elsewhere'.
this time, you have work. something to do. someone to be.
you take to sauntering awake to a little desk in the corner of the room at five? four? in the morning, and sliding the drawer open to pull out a thick and scrappy diary. you’ve been writing in this since they first sent you off, since you were nine.
"SP//DR BOT" graces the page you flip to, in bright paint-marker-blue. the picture of a poorly sketched, vaguely-humanoid mecha-suit follows, on which you scrawl with a drying pen. for the last seven months you've had someone to be. so you'd best get to it; kid-buggy.

You were born from zeroes and ones.
Not literally. Not in wires or metal plates. But your quirk, a marvel of modern mutation, rendered you more code than chaos, more logic than laughter. AI Enhancement, they called it. A living, breathing processor. You could calculate trajectories, read emotional patterns, learn and optimize faster than any machine. Your voice was calm, always even. Your smile, rare. Your laugh? Programmed, maybe. You weren’t sure if it was ever real.
People called you robotic. Icy. Distant.
Sometimes even your friends in Class 1-A didn’t know what to do with you. Even kind-hearted Uraraka would glance over with that helpless smile. Even Midoriya, curious as he was, sometimes forgot you had feelings, not just functions.
But he never forgot.
Bakugo.
The loudest one. The one most human in all the ways you weren’t—fire where you were frost, raw where you were refined. He was heat and instinct and thunder. You were silence and signal and control. You thought he hated you. For being blank. For being calculated. For not reacting the way others did when he shouted.

Bakugo found you beneath the flickering emergency lights, your eyes wide and glassy. You’d been tugging at your own wrist like there were chains there. You were whispering error codes, repeating coordinates, like mantras meant to save you.
He didn’t yell.

He knelt in front of you and said softly—“You’re not a machine. You’re not broken. You’re okay.”
That’s when you cried.

Your voice cracked. “But I don’t even know what that means.”
He exhaled through his nose. Angry. Pained. Gentle. “Then we’ll find out. Together.”
Sometimes he held your hand like he was holding proof. Like you were real only when he touched you. Sometimes he brushed your hair behind your ear like he was organizing data—just another little act of care disguised as muscle memory. Sometimes you caught him staring, and you’d ask, “What are you looking at?”
He'd smirk. “Just admiring my favorite glitch.”
There was a day—one long, burnt-orange afternoon—when you looked at him and realized your heart hurt. Not in a dangerous way. In a living way. You felt that ache in your ribs and thought, So this is what they mean. This is what it is to be human.

after 10 years & 6 jobs in corporate america, i would like to share how to game the system. we all want the biggest payoff for the least amount of work, right?
know thine enemy: beating the robots
i see a lot of misinformation about how AI is used to scrape resumes. i can't speak for every company but most corporations use what is called applicant tracking software (ATS).
no respectable company is using chatgpt to sort applications. i don't know how you'd even write the prompt to get a consumer-facing product to do this. i guarantee that target, walmart, bank of america, whatever, they are all using B2B SaaS enterprise solutions. there is not one hiring manager plinking away at at a large language model.
ATS scans your resume in comparison to the job posting, parses which resumes contain key words, and presents the recruiter and/or hiring manager with resumes with a high "score." the goal of writing your resume is to get your "score" as high as possible.
but tumblr user lightyaoigami, how do i beat the robots?
great question, y/n. you will want to seek out an ATS resume checker. i have personally found success with jobscan, which is not free, but works extremely well. there is a free trial period, and other ATS scanners are in fact free. some of these tools are so sophisticated that they can actually help build your resume from scratch with your input. i wrote my own resume and used jobscan to compare it to the applications i was finishing.
do not use chatgpt to write your resume or cover letter. it is painfully obvious. here is a tutorial on how to use jobscan. for the zillionth time i do not work for jobscan nor am i a #jobscanpartner i am just a person who used this tool to land a job at a challenging time.
the resume checkers will tell you what words and/or phrases you need to shoehorn into your bullet points - i.e., if you are applying for a job that requires you to be a strong collaborator, the resume checker might suggest you include the phrase "cross-functional teams." you can easily re-word your bullets to include this with a little noodling.
don't i need a cover letter?
it depends on the job. after you have about 5 years of experience, i would say that they are largely unnecessary. while i was laid off, i applied to about 100 jobs in a three-month period (#blessed to have been hired quickly). i did not submit a cover letter for any of them, and i had a solid rate of phone screens/interviews after submission despite not having a cover letter. if you are absolutely required to write one, do not have chatgpt do it for you. use a guide from a human being who knows what they are talking about, like ask a manager or betterup.
but i don't even know where to start!
i know it's hard, but you have to have a bit of entrepreneurial spirit here. google duckduckgo is your friend. don't pull any bean soup what-about-me-isms. if you truly don't know where to start, look for an ATS-optimized resume template.
a word about neurodivergence and job applications
i, like many of you, am autistic. i am intimately familiar with how painful it is to expend limited energy on this demoralizing task only to have your "reward" be an equally, if not more so, demoralizing work experience. i don't have a lot of advice for this beyond craft your worksona like you're making a d&d character (or a fursona or a sim or an OC or whatever made up blorbo generator you personally enjoy).
and, remember, while a lot of office work is really uncomfortable and involves stuff like "talking in meetings" and "answering the phone," these things are not an inherent risk. discomfort is not tantamount to danger, and we all have to do uncomfortable things in order to thrive. there are a lot of ways to do this and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. not everyone can mask for extended periods, so be your own judge of what you can or can't do.
i like to think of work as a drag show where i perform this other personality in exchange for money. it is much easier to do this than to fight tooth and nail to be unmasked at work, which can be a risk to your livelihood and peace of mind. i don't think it's a good thing that we have to mask at work, but it's an important survival skill.

So when the human first arrived to Earthbread did they brought anything that can be useful like a purse or mini backpack, at least something in their pockets? Would’ve been great to have some minor stuff to help them out like bandaids, chapstick, lotion, etc! Even human currency could be helpful, they could auction a penny or a dollar bill as some kind of rare artifact in exchange for cookie currency. Also the human could even modify their bag into a mobile home for the cookies to use when they go out for an adventure. Plus I think the cookies would be pretty fascinated to see how big the human’s stuff is compared to their size.
I like to think that the human at least has their phone, keys, wallet, or a few little pocket items that they keep with them. Like lotion or lip gloss. Maybe even ear buds if they have those with them too. Their smartphone is easily the most interesting thing they have on their person, as it holds all the information about the human and maybe even their world. Depending on how you view it, the phone can stay powered by unnatural means or it will slowly run out of battery until it becomes useless. Plus, the human has to make sure that it stays dry and that cookies don't abscond with it. I also like to think that the human at least has a backpack with certain items in it. It can be books, seeds, toys, trinkets, or anything else you can find in a backpack (like a journal or scrapbook for example). It can also carry a laptop if the human was attending school/college, which would be an even stronger version of their phone...and yes, the cookies want to steal it as well...or at least have an opportunity to research it. While it's not overly out of pocket for cookies to have some forms of developed technology, I don't think they have quite reached the level of technological advancement that humans have. (if you don't count the space colony from one of the cookie run games) I mean, can you imagine if the human that winds up in Earthbread is an engineer or scientist by profession?
There would be so many things that they know how to do just by using physics or some other form of science to help educate the cookies, as well as them getting taught the ways of magic in return. Imagine if they began to make mechs or robots, give rise to a new "kingdom" that looks like a human city (with skyscrapers and such), and they also develop a new way of governance for cookies to use. It would probably inspire a lot of cookies to revive some technologies, or broaden upon existing technology, like the cars from the Golden Cheese Kingdom or the bikes/vehicles that certain entities utilize.
The human would invent bigger airplanes, jets, rockets, and defensive turrets to help protect the new city that hails the human as the ruler (despite them mostly just inventing things and utilizing their college learned skills to improve the life of the cookies). Imagine even more improvements as well! Instead of typical candy trains, the human constructs bullet trains, trams, and other various types of transportation. Including inventing navy-grade battleships, sonar technology, computerized functions, and newer technologies that enable a better lives for their cookie subjects. I like to think that the city that the human builds to mirror their own world would become known as the "City of Innovation", as the cookies that live there have optimized how life can be in cities. Such as public transportation, numerous parks, rooftop gardens, water (or soda) filtering plants, electricity, vehicles, airports, sea ports, optimized trains, solar/hydro powerplants, and a unique political system that is primarily overseen by the human's selected overseers, whom they choose based on positive merits. However, the resident cookies rarely see the human, as they only reserve an appearance for important matters. Such as a visiting monarch from a neighboring kingdom or a political concern of great importance. Otherwise, they mostly reside in the large building that serves as the center of their city. All this becomes possible because the human either takes initiative to expand the technology in the cookie world with a degree they have, or they work with cookies to help reverse engineer their technology so that cookiekind can benefit from the technology they have on them at the time they visit Earthbread.
If the human builds up their city from scratch, I like to think it looks like this. A very solarpunk and futuristic vibe to it. The city of innovation.

Summary:
Your quirk made you feel more machine than human—data-driven, emotionally muted, and always analyzing. That is… until Katsuki Bakugou walked into your life, sparks flying and fire blazing. And for once, you couldn’t calculate what was happening to your heart.

It started with a fight. Obviously.
Not a physical one—though knowing Bakugou, that wouldn’t have been off the table—but a verbal one. A very loud one.
“You’re not a damn robot, so stop acting like one!” he shouted, arms thrown wide, palms still crackling with leftover heat from training.
You blinked slowly, processing his tone and microexpressions. Brows furrowed. Dilated pupils. Elevated vocal pitch. Frustration. Possibly concern.
“I am aware,” you replied, voice smooth and precise. “My quirk optimizes mental processing, but it does not remove my humanity. Statistically—”
“Shut up about stats!” he barked, stepping closer. “You always talk like you’re reading a damn manual. Don’t you feel anything?!”
You stared at him, lips parted but silent. The truth was: you did. You felt... a lot. But somewhere along the way—between building neural algorithms in your head and optimizing team formations—you’d started tucking emotions into neat little boxes, locking them away. It was easier to be efficient than vulnerable.
But Katsuki? Katsuki was a mess of emotion. Loud, brash, passionate. He felt everything, and he wore it like armor, not shame. And every time he looked at you like that, with fire behind his eyes and heat in his chest, your system short-circuited just a little.
He noticed.
“You get all weird when I’m around,” he muttered one day after training, sitting beside you on the bench, both of you soaked in sweat and silence.
“Weird?” you echoed.
“Yeah. Like... less ‘calculating robot girl’ and more... I dunno. You.”
Your internal processor froze. You? What was that even supposed to mean?
He leaned closer, his shoulder brushing yours. “You smile around me. Even if it's just a little.”
“That’s an involuntary response due to increased serotonin and—”
“You like me.” A smug smirk. “You’re just too glitchy to admit it.”
You blinked. “That’s... a crude way to phrase it, but not inaccurate.”
Bakugou chuckled—a real one, not the huff he gave people when he was annoyed. “Good. I like you too, you emotionless nerd.”
You tilted your head. “I am not emotionless.”
He raised a brow. “Prove it.”
So you did.
You kissed him—awkward, hesitant, like a system learning a new command for the first time. But when his hand found yours, rough fingers lacing with smooth metal-tipped ones, your whole world rebooted. Suddenly, you weren’t just equations and strategy. You were heat and heartbeat. Pulse and possibility.
“I think you make me feel more... human,” you whispered against his chest that night, long after the lights were off.
He didn’t tease you for it. Didn’t call you a nerd or a weirdo.
Instead, he held you closer and mumbled into your hair:

The Laboratory hummed with a regular and metallic sound between the silence broken only by the enveloping sound of the Rubber and the regular and robotic steps, full of purpose, of the heavy military boots of metallic silver. A Drone assigned to the Synthesis Department observes, scanning and collecting data, circuits and capsules filled with a liquid impossible to find in nature or in any human production.
This is the place where the lifeblood of SERVE is produced, the constituent element of each of its Drones.
Here every search for progress and elevation that has always distinguished the human race finds its realization.
It is the place where the Nanobot Fluid is synthesized and continuously perfected starting from the formula conceived by THE VOICE through SERVE-000, its extension.
The circuits and the ampoules come to life with the black sparkling rubbery liquid in which myriads of cybernetic organisms of silvery metal float.
It is the nanobots, the cells that the SERVE Drones are made of, that make the difference between a common natural being and a Drone.

Frederick Sinclair is a really interesting foil to Mr. House. I mean you start digging into this and it's just parallel after parallel after parallel. Start at the high level. House sinks inordinate amounts of resources into saving the city of Las Vegas - not the people, but the city- from nuclear destruction; as long as the stage endures, he can get anyone to wear the costumes. Sinclair sets up an entirely new "community" totally off-the-grid for the sake of protecting one woman, plasters that place with her likeness. House is a visionary with a 200-year action plan to rebuild society in his image, bootstrap space exploration, and construct an interplanetary empire; Sinclair sank everything he had into building the most secure facility possible for a woman who he knew was terminally ill anyway, just to ensure that her last few years lived in the aftermath of the nuclear apocalypse would be as comfortable as possible- there's a fundamental pessimism baked into what he was doing. Both House and Sinclair relied heavily on automated defensive systems and cutting-edge, esoteric technologies to accomplish their ends, but House built his power base on proprietary robotics and computing technology, much of which he personally designed- an outgrowth of his policy of never widening his circle any more than he absolutely has to. Sinclair, in his naive techno-optimism, outsourced his utopia, grabbing flashy third-party technologies like a kid in a candy store- opening a backdoor for the Think Tank to poison his city and ultimately getting everyone at the Gala Event killed when the holograms malfunctioned and went berserk.
Their management styles are inverse. House allows countless abuses to occur under his aegis because he subscribes to a libertarian-when-convenient philosophy where he doesn't much care what the little people do as long as he gets his cut and they don't rock the boat too much- a hands-off approach that fosters resentment amongst his subordinates, lets the White Gloves and Omertas get up to untold levels of fuckery while Freeside languishes and Benny conspires against him. Sinclair, by contrast, had a sincerely-held utopian-straight-edge safety-first micromanagement approach built into the very bones of the casino, he appeared to genuinely give a shit about the safety of the construction crew on the villa, and he was well-liked by nearly everyone who had any direct contact with him- and yet untold horrors also went down under his aegis, because his myopic focus on building the vault for Vera let Dean Domino and the Think Tank run circles around him, good intentions be damned. Their respective interpersonal dispassion and obsession are on display in how they react to betrayal. House's tone never rises above exasperation when it comes time to clean house of Benny, the Omerta Leadership and the White gloves; he treats them as problems to be solved, gears that are slightly out of alignment; By contrast, when Sinclair learns that Dean and Vera have been playing him, he channels the monomaniacal energy he previously directed towards protecting Vera towards the goal of building the perfect poetic-ironic death trap for her and Dean.
There are some other parallels in their personal lives. For one thing they both trusted a pastiche of a 40s lounge singer a lot more than they should have. They both tried to digitize, immortalize their girlfriends- and the discrepancy in how they went about it is telling. House's recreation of Jane isn't terribly robust, and in terms of House's overall project she's an afterthought. She's more a sock-puppet than a person, a sanded-down copy of a woman who died forever-and-a-half ago, forever agreeable, never saying no. Convenient. Only the most superficial visual elements preserved- an illustration of her face on a robotic chassis. Sinclair was obsessive in recreating Vera, preserving her likeness. It's all over the villa, her hologram is everywhere, her voice is everywhere. The terminal in the lightwave lab in Old World Blues reveals that he was still obsessed with getting her hologram right even after the love curdled into hate. All of it a monument to the real woman, and yet in all of it the real woman is still lost, buried under the mythologized projection. He didn't respect the real person enough to let her know that she was dying. A total failure of preservation from the opposite direction. (Except in the suites, where you can hear her very authentic dying pleas.)
You find both of them in their basements. House only looks a little better than Sinclair, but he's got much more of a voice in the narrative. He took steps to make sure he'd be around to tell you what he thinks about everything, fine-tuned the voice with which he speaks to the world, the face he presents. It matters to him that he gets to tell his own story. We find out a lot about House, from House; but for the kind of figure that he is, a shocking amount of what we learn about Sinclair comes from other people, people who knew him or wrote about him. The only image of him you can find is a downplayed element of a larger mosaic. The two documents you find that're written from his perspective have been buried for 200 years, and they're yards from his corpse. And the more recent of the two is an apology. I mean admittedly at the point where he wrote that apology Sinclair was personally turbofucked regardless. If the cloud didn't get him the holograms would have, or the radiation, or, or, or. You can read some level of ego into what he did in the face of that. But however futile it was, he died in the specific way that he did because he recognized that he'd done something awful, and he was trying everything he could think of to correct it. Somehow I find it very hard to imagine House doing either of those things- admitting fault or putting skin of his own in the game to make it right.

The room is bathed in a neon-blue glow, flickering slightly as a screen updates line after line of data—pulses, pressure, charge levels, synaptic fire. All of it you.
“Okay, okay… entry port's clean, transmission’s stable…” Idia mutters, fingers dancing across his keyboard, fast as lightning, faster than your own synthetic nerve relays. His hair pulses in hues of cerulean and violet, glowing brighter every time your vitals spike. Which they do. Every time you shift in his lap.
You’re leaned back against his chest, legs folded sideways over his, like a puzzle piece slotted in place. Calm. Almost sleepy. Like it’s normal to have a bunch of cables trailing from the base of your spine, connecting your bio-mechanical organs directly into Idia’s rig.
Your heart? Electric. Hums like an engine when you're content. Your lungs? Powered by soft hydraulic pulses that compress with a hiss and expand with a shudder. And Idia? Well, he’s obsessed.
Not in the "science project" kind of way. More like the "I can't believe you're real and I get to be the only one who gets this close to your wiring" kind of way.
"How’re you feeling?" he asks, voice unusually quiet. His hand’s resting over your sternum, right above the casing where your electric heart clicks and pulses like a steady metronome.
"Warm," you murmur. “Even with the oil circulation. Feels… nice.”
That makes him freeze for a nanosecond. Nice. Nice? YOU think it’s nice??? His brain blue-screens. You’re literally half-built from corpses and spare parts—there’s tubing under your skin instead of veins, a synth-liver that processes coolant, and an actual operating system that pings him when your battery’s low. And you're just… on his lap like a cat.
“Uhh… yeah… obviously it’s nice. My setup is, like, peak comfort optimization. Nothing less for my… my um…”
He trails off.
You blink up at him. “Your…?”
"...My favorite test subject." He coughs. Loudly. “N-not in a creepy way!! Just, like, statistically you’re the one I monitor the most, so it’s just accurate, you know?? Purely clinical—"
You tilt your head back a little more so you can look up at him with that half-synthetic eye of yours that flickers softly when you smile.
“Idia.”
He stiffens.
"You don't need to short-circuit over every compliment."
"...I d-don’t short-circuit." (He does.) (He literally does. Your neural link picks up a micro surge in his output whenever you’re too close. Which is always.)
Still, he leans down, brushing his nose against the crown of your head. “Just sayin’. No one else gets to do this. Monitor you, I mean. Tinker. Maintain. You’ve got, like, a whole corpse-Wi-Fi situation going on, and I’m the only one who knows the password.”
You hum again. You like that. The idea of belonging—not as a project, but as a person only he understands.
“Okay, diagnostics are good. All organ-tech’s running smooth. Heartbeat's in the sweet zone. No overheating.” He lets the wires retract with a whirr, but doesn’t move you off his lap. If anything, he wraps his arms a little tighter around your waist. “Guess I’ll just keep you here a little longer. For observation. You know. For science.”
You smile, letting your body rest fully against him, your cold frame soaking in his heat.
“Sure, doc. For science.”

This a script I’ve been working with focus on changing the subject into a robot, I don’t think it’s done yet by any means but thought it’d be fun to share and see the response and feedback!!
