Flowers for Kasumi on Itch.io!
Tumblr media
Flowers for Kasumi was a demo that @eredoh and I (previously Nedras) released in 2017. It was developed in RPG Maker VX Ace. While Flowers for Kasumi is on an indefinite hiatus, (at least until my other project, The Doctrine of Perseverance is completed) I wanted to share this old demo as it is dear to me, and there is at least one confirmed character who is also in TDOP. Also, the RPGMaker.net download is inaccessible due to their website being down.
I have also merged the setting for both projects (This will be more noticeable once the full game for TDOP is completed): Flowers for Kasumi will take place in Noxton, some other characters in FFK will see name changes as well in the future. Other story elements from this project are subject to change in the future.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis
Flowers for Kasumi tells the story of titular girl, Kasumi, and how her life ended so abruptly. The game takes place in the fictional town of Kumashina, a small town that holds a grave secret. In the midst of fall, protagonists Isa and Omoka will unearth the secrets behind Kasumi, and the truth behind her death.
Solve puzzles and piece together the dark mystery of what happened to Kasumi Erizawa.
Disclaimer
This is a demo from 2017. The project's development halted around late 2018/early 2019. Eredoh and I were teenagers when we began, but as life got busy, it was ultimately discontinued. I have just returned to game development last year (2023). Flowers for Kasumi is on an indefinite hiatus until my other project, The Doctrine of Perseverance is completed.

was randomly itching to play an rpg maker game and found that rpgmaker.net has been down for over a year? the service hosting the server suddenly died and the site admins have said that they're slowly rebuilding but the status atm is very vague. they've mentioned that they are functionally rebuilding everything from scratch as the old site's infrastructure was well...old.
a copy of every game from the site has fortunately been added to archive.org...but it's surprising that such a huge pillar (in my opinion) of old indie gaming can go down without so much as a peep from the broader internet. like, sure itch.io is the place that has the sauce these days but. where else am i going to find stuff like this

A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky
Tumblr media
I've added a Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky to itch.io!
This is mainly a response to the ask I got the other day to upload God of Crawling Eyes (which I'll get to next, I swear!). Since rpgmaker.net has been down for some time and the only upload for my old games is on archive.org, it felt like probably a good idea to upload everything on itch.io for the sake of preservation. I'm just going to upload them every day or so until they're all there.
From the page:
A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky was my first complete game.  It was an overly ambitious, full-length RPG that I had no business making with my rudimentary understanding of game development at the time, but it still has its charm.
The mechanics are pretty by-the-numbers rpg maker, the mapping is generally not detailed enough, and the graphics are RTP with an occasional edit, but the writing mostly holds up and some of the songs are great--even if they're MIDI.  If you're willing to overlook the simplicity of the battle system and the rough-around-the-edges aspects of the game, there's enough here to legitimately enjoy.
The story starts with Mint and Ivy, two sisters who are grappling with the death of their father.  They live on a barren planet, so barren that they've never run into any people outside of their immediate family.  But, there's a rope hanging next to their house.  It's always been there.  It goes up and up and up, so far that it disappears into the clouds.  With their father dead, their attempts at foraging falling short, and the world filled with dangerous monsters, they have no choice but to climb the rope.  What awaits them, above the clouds?
Features: -Original music -Character-centric storyline -40+ hours of gameplay -Different equipment sets that modify the ways characters play -A crafting system featuring over 100 pieces of unique equipment -LOTS of side quests -Recruit an odd assortment of townspeople and pass legislation to develop your own village -Raise a pig to compete in the Pig Arena and win prizes -New game+ feature that includes multiple bonus endings--a mechanic I blatantly stole from Chrono Trigger

One of the earliest sprites of Ryuuta, the main character of Chronicles IV and the first character designed as part of my series. Back in my childhood he was known as "Super [Deadname]", then "Duper [Deadname]", then "[Deadname] the Ninja", then "Zinja", then "Karos" and then finally "Ryuuta" who's first incarnation developed somewhere around 2014/2015. Since all my previous childhood stories are technically canon to the Chronicles lore, I had to recon their names so that I don't have to use my deadname and to reduce confusion.
"Super [Deadname]" was from the original universe, now known as Circlia, and is now known as "King Zum". This version lasted from 2007 to 2008.
The second Ryuuta was from the second universe, now named "Neo", after the first major reboot and is now known as "Duper Zex." (first name Duper, last name Zex) This version of Ryuuta lasted the longest besides the current incarnation, lasting from 2008 to 2010 and then again from 2011 all the way to 2016.
The third Ryuuta was from the third universe, now named Galaxio, who's story was supposted to be told in a book series where only the first book/prologue was ever written. In modern times I took what story was already there (blatant Star Wars ripoff), rewrote it, and massively expanded it into a full sci-fi story about crystals, souls, existentialism, and the nature of life itself. This version of Ryuuta was renamed to "Zin" who would be later known as "Ji". This incarnation was very short lived only lasting for a single story in 2011. This character's story will be the first to be remade and fully told in the modern day with my game "Spirit Roamer."
The forth Ryuuta was the first incarnation who's story was told in a game, my first ever RPG Maker game "The Legend of Light". This incarnation lasted from 2015 to 2016. Originally called Karos in the first half of the game and then called Ryuuta in the second half, this forth incarnation of Ryuuta was renamed in the lore to be named "Karuta" and be a separate character lore-wise from both Koros and Ryuuta from the current universe.
The fifth Ryuuta was from the "Zero Gear Duology" featuring Zero Gear Fighters and it's sequel Dragon Ascension, both which have been publicly released (unlike LoL) and will be downloadable as soon as rpgmaker.net goes back up. This Ryuuta was the first to be ACTUALLY NAMED RYUUTA throughout the entire game, but in the lore was renamed to Ryuka to avoid confusion and to become a separate character from Ryuuta's current incarnation.
The sixth Ryuuta was from a cancelled game that I made known as either "Stardust Saga" or "Draco Anima Origins" depending on what engine it was made with. Now that game is known as Lost Anima and the protagonist is named Setana, later known as legendary hero Cu Cuchulainn. Setana was originally called Ryuuta in the lost SS/DAO builds, so he is technically yet another Ryuuta incarnation.
The 7th and final Ryuuta incarnation is the one you see here, albeit in an early design stage before a lot of his primary characteristics were firmly established. The current Ryuuta is the protagonist of Chronicles IV: The Last Dragon's Elegy and also one of the most important characters lore wise to the entire Chronicles cosmology. More on him when we get to the final, finished design.

Resucitando juegos: ~Nuevas traducciones~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kampong - The Shadow of the Truth - de "Mekalist": En rpgmaker.net usando la WayBackMachine aparecen un par de enlaces a FB y YT. La cuenta en Face no arroja nada y el canal en YT está vacío.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Go to SLEEP de "TalalDev": Aunque su juego aparece por aquí y por allá, toda forma de contactar con el autor termina en callejones sin salida. Hace años que no usa ningún medio de contacto, he probado a hablarle, pero dudo mucho que me responda.

The God of Crawling Eyes
Tumblr media
Just in time for Halloween, I've added The God of Crawling Eyes to itch.io:
From the itch page:
The God of Crawling Eyes was a game I made in the early 2010s for a game jam on rpgmaker.net.  The game took around 20-25 days to make, mostly because of its short play time and minimalist aesthetic.
I kind of made it just as a segue into the RPG Maker community, as I was going to upload A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky and thought I could get more eyes on the project if I won the game jam.  I don't think I won, but I did get a lot of eyes on this one--I was completely unaware at the time of the huge RPG Maker horror scene and the many people who were ravenous for games that fit that mold.  It ended up being my most-downloaded game on rpgmaker.net by far.
The story's about Max, a high school kid taking some experimental medication for his color blindness.  But, the medication is making him see...OtHeR tHiNgS...
Features:
-Genuine spooks! -Surprisingly good atmosphere for MIDI music tracks! -Adventure gamey, puzzley stuff--some of which isn't even that obtuse! -4 different endings! -Little secrets!
