I mentioned this on my last ask post, but for those who didn’t read it, I like to think Michael, despite what it wants others to believe (and perhaps despite what it itself believes) is at least partially a “who”. It can try to stamp out Shelley’s influence as much as it wants, but it will always be there.

So when its “what”, in the form of the Distortion, transfers to Helen, its “who” is left behind. But one problem: You can’t just cleanly separate Shelley from Michael because they’ve become the same person thingamajig. Though Shelley’s body is back to (somewhat) normal, his mind isn’t magically restored or anything. The Distortion is still itself mentally, and very, very pissed about its new stiff, restrictive mortal form.

Michael doesn’t have anywhere to go at this point (and, to be frank, probably doesn’t have the strength to walk on its own) so Martin and Jon make the executive decision to haul it home with them. The former because he feels bad leaving it to die, and the latter because he doesn’t want to leave it up for the taking for any curious entities.

They set it up on the couch and try to ensure it recovers, but that’s sort of difficult when Michael keeps trying to get out of bed and summon a door, only to collapse from exhaustion. (It doesn’t understand! Were humans this pathetic this entire time? It almost feels bad for hunting them. ...almost.) Each time, all they can really do is tuck it back in and hope it’s learned its lesson.

Occasionally, when Michael’s eyes begin to slip shut, right before sleep (another disgusting thing it hates doing now) overtakes its body, it spies a yellow door in the corner of its vision. Always gone in the morning, like it was never there. Michael knows not to push her.
