But okay yes now to get down to the actual ask just to disclaim I am solely relying on translations seeing as I do not speak japanese well enough to understant the original text so if anyone has anything to add to this or to correct me on please feel free to do so.

Now to get started I'm not sure if one could say Eichi gave away the mask "So easily" seeing as he claimed that it was "a hard choice to make"? Which, as one might know, implies unease with an idea and pondering and debating and a general amount of thinking behind a decision so? I know this isn't really the main focus of this ask but I'm just a tad miffed with the semantics of it is all. And in either case giving the mask back to Wataru while expecting it back still shows a certain degree of trust in their relationship it wouldn't have been such a big deal for him (as it apparently was) if the mask didn't have a lot of sentimental value to him (the both of them really if we look at the whole exchange).

Now to the claim that the mask was "only" Watarus promise to stay with fine and "continue playing Tsumugis clown role". This is not entirely incorrect. Regarding the acting troupe and staying with fine bit at least.

I'm assuming this bit in EP:Link Deadend/7 is what you are referencing, and I see where you're coming from. But the bluebird line

from literally three dialogue lines further down, which references this line of dialogue (notorious Eichi line everyone should be familiar with)

kind of somewhat really recontextualises that? Because you see this is a reference to a fairytale about a pair of siblings and they get sent out by a nice fairy to find the bluebird of happiness for her sad daughter to make her happy again so they both go on an adventure and travel far and search and search but they can not find the bluebird of happiness and then when they return home again, disappointed because they couldn't find the blue bird, they realise only one night has actually passed and the journey was probably just a dream. But then their eyes fall upon their pet dove in it's cage which appears blue all of a sudden and so they gift it to the fairies sad daughter which becomes happy again and sets the bird free. The real bluebird of happiness is a dove. At least in the version of the story I'm familiar with but I mean everyone sees the symbolism right? It's. very hard to miss.

And then dropping this?

I'm not sure how to say this properly but in the overall context this makes it pretty clear that Tsumugi has nothing to do with this anymore this is Fully between Wataru and Eichi. And I am the last person to dismiss Tsumugis significance in the course of Wataeis relationship as characters I will be among the first to protest when someone dismisses the importance of Tsumugis and Eichis relationship in favour of some image they have of Wataei but he has nothing to do with this one.

Yes Tsumugi gets namedropped but - again - I don't really see how that would lessen the sentiment Wataru is triying to convey here? Because. Yes. Why wouldn't he mention Tsumugi?

The entire conversation pretty much boils down to "Yes I was initially only in this because I thought I could replace Tsumugis role in your life and then I wanted to leave but we have spent so much time together that I realised that that is definitely not working out because I really do love you. I love you as a teammate; I love you as a friend; I love you as a person and I am very angry at myself for not managing to get that into your head. So please allow me to stay with you for as long as you'll have me." And then also Eichi not understanding because he has the emotional self awareness of a very emotionally unaware loaf of bread and also because he hates himself that is a very big thing about his character huge part of his character arc actually that he. you know? Hates himself? And feels guitly for his actions during the war? And doesn't think he deserves love and companionship? Which is why Wataru wanting to stay with him for him and not for some twisted form of revenge is such an alien concept to him? Because he is projecting his insecurities onto Wataru? As one is wont to do when they hate themself? "EiChi Didn'T eVen UnDErStanD WhAt tf ThAT Mask MEAnt" Yeah. That's. That's the point? So he can think about it and come to that conclusion himself which works as a keymoment in his characters journey from hating life and himself to enjoying being alive and wanting to live on because of the people he's surrounded with? He literally explains why he didn't immediately understand the mask during the EP:Link Epilogue/4

And to get back to the "I dunno why the f you think it's ok to lie about "! EnDiNG wItH wAtAeI EnGaGeMEnT" about which I have two things to say:

"Lying" implies further intent and an effort. Neither of which exist in this case.

I mean he'd say that and if pull comes to shove and he has no other option then he might seriously consider it but may I mention that Wataru was gone for a few days at most but really not that long of a time during Sanctuary and Eichi stopped considering being a normal rational person that doesn't leave helpless 17 year olds in the midst of a construction site. Very different situation but I feel like it's worth mentioninh here. Another example is Eichis almost not being able to go through with the war because of Wataru. Wataru had to actively come and tell Eichi to go through with it. Wataru isn't the reason Eichi started the war, that is wrong, but he is the reason Eichi almost didn't finish it. and during the war era that was his Main objective. Again I'm part of the fraction "actions speak louder than words" Show don't tell and all that, but even the words are pushing it.

sometimes people who struggle like to make jokes or find positives about their condition that causes them to struggle so they can escape the constant negative and struggle. sometimes autistic people will say things like "the 'tism" or use the "autism creature" or say their autism helped them have a *positive trait* to feel better about their struggles. because living your life only focusing on the struggles and negatives is depressing and makes it hard to want to live, even if those struggle take up 100% of your life and you can't actually escape them. sometimes any little seemingly positive thing can help a lot.

but there's so many other autistic people that hate when we do that and call it "reducing autism to a cute trendy thing" and say it takes away from *their* struggles and is bad and shouldn't be used. maybe *you* want to only focus on your struggles, but some people can't live in constant negative and need some positive or to find ways to make their condition more positive so they can feel better about living with their struggles. life is hard. I take anything I can get.

I cant get jobs. I can't make and keep friends. I can't get help and support for doing "normal" things so sometimes I go weeks without being able to shower and without eating more than a bowl of cereal a day. most times can't even do things I like. struggle to communicate. have meltdowns. i'll never be able to live independently. I struggle a lot. but instead of sitting here always depressed and having no motivation to live, i'd rather try to joke about "my 'tism is acting up again" when i'm struggling (just an example. don't think I ever actually used the 'tism thing but i saw others use it) or say "i'm just being a creature" when I need to stay in my dark room because everything is too much and I personally find it cute to be a little creature meant in a positive way. i'm not actually downplaying mine or anyone else's struggles. I still acknowledge them and that silly jokes dont make them go away. i'm not trying to be trendy. i'm not doing any of the things people say we do by making silly little jokes. i'm using the silly little jokes to convince myself life can be a little more than pointless, painful garbage all the time.

a puppeteer and his devoted puppet??????? but they vow to be together always????????? they have a dynamic where reo exercises control over nagi but it’s never in a twisted sense, only something built on a very deep trust. nagi trusts reo’s judgement and doesn’t care about soccer anyway, only reo himself, so he doesn’t mind being puppeteered. it’s only when he realizes he actually enjoys it that he leaves reo behind — and even then it’s all for the sake of them being together in the end!!!! they’ll meet again on the other side!!!!!!!!!!

but it’s still so. fucking soulcrushing because reo might seem controlling, he might seem a little detached, but he cares for nagi so deeply and calls him a genius and trusts him in a way no one else does. he loves him so much. soccer was the first thing reo ever wanted for himself, nagi was the second. and nagi left him behind.

the concept of a doting puppeteer being left by his beloved puppet makes me batshit insane all on its own but the fact that their relation to each other is so genuine and kind just wrecks me. nagi is doing what he thinks is best for reo but he’s hurting him more in the process. reo wishes he could be happy for nagi, but he still cries because he doesn’t want to be alone. he doesn’t want nagi to walk farther than he can reach, even if that will stunt his growth. maybe he’d prefer him being under his thumb, always, willingly, never meeting his full potential;

and i think that makes reo feel so, so guilty.

okay for realsies though I was NOT expecting all that. and I ain't complain', far from it, that was absolutely mind-blowing!!!

I have to get up early for work tomorrow so I can't afford to stay up all night writing a massive essay about how much I love the Black Shores story (and Camellya's story quest)... but I do need to share some quick thoughts:

vistas: gorgeous

characters: fascinating af

music: divine

plot: fucking awesome

Shorekeeper's identity and story was WAY more interesting than I expected tbh, and ditto for Camellya. I was a bit worried about it being slightly waifu-baiting, but the way the Rover grew close to each of them felt surprisingly natural.

I'm kinda impressed by how well WuWa has handled this, where nearly all the character relations so far feel organic and well-founded given the circumstances that they've met under. There's a lot of deep bonds, but they all feel believable to me ^.^

It's also kinda funny how ordinary Aalto and Encore feel in contrast, too, and I can't stop thinking about how Aalto must've felt when he realized that the random interesting person he found ended up being the 30,000+ year old (at MINIMUM) founder of the entire Black Shores organization lmfao

and tbh I quite enjoy how Rover has a sort of air of authority about them, I felt like it was there fairly early on (maybe appearing sometime in the middle of the Jinzhou arc), but in this chapter it really was plain as day. the way they just took command??? and the respect they received??? simply astounding. fantastic.

Tethys Deep is also such an amazing map design! Easily one of the most beautiful places I've seen in any media. It's such an interesting mix of deep-sea imagery and sci-fi design, and tbh the thing i love most is that it's *INHABITED* and alive :D

So! Fun fact! That originally was my planning doc! But then I began live reacting and talking about my fics, and Ren's character kinda kept being mischaracterized, so I was like, "I should make this public." And, honestly, my current "Planning doc" is just two checklists and a character check-in!

This is literally the entire doc (So very different from the current 11k words on the notes doc). I found out that it's kinda hard to have a set outline for an askblog, I need to be able to have a flexible timeline based on what other characters or what anons say. I will make a set outline for each fic the moment I sit down and start writing them, but even those get changed a LOT based on what is happening and who is saying what to Ren! tbh thought about blurring some stuff but ehhh heres hints on how to sway his story guys pspsps you decide what happens!!! improv me!!!!

Putting stuff out of order cause my Song of Achilles rant went on so longgg its at the end under an undercut

So my aus! Aahhh i love...I love writing with my good pal, we often write together.... One of our shared aus is our Actor au, Rendoc exists and they're happy i think its actually been a while since i reread actor au....

Zombie Apocalypse au you can find on ao3! Ren is NOT a big character, he's included in an oneshot that happens before the main fic and thats about it (I will say, I do have a half-written oneshot that features more Ren for that au!)

I said this part in the notes, but my dislike for TSOA is mostly the character portrayals! I'm gonna literally just... copy paste from my essay i wrote about this and just make it less words

Patroclus in The Song of Achilles is so different than his original character. He’s softer, more insecure about himself, and Miller takes away the fact that he was a warrior. He isn’t good at fighting when he’s shown training with other boys, and when he’s fighting in the Trojan War, he goes to one battle that he’s required to go where he stands around in fear, “It was a measure of my dullness, my dizziness, that it took me until midafternoon to see that this was Achilles’ doing. His gaze was on me always, preternaturally sensing the moment when a soldier’s eyes widen at the easy target I presented. Before the man drew another breath, he would cut him down.” (Miller 239). Here, Patroclus can’t fight, and therefore he needs Achilles to protect him. When he’s forced to go to this battle, he can’t defend himself, so Achilles is always watching him, striking down anyone who notices how much of an easy target Patroclus makes. Patroclus was a warrior. He fought in the war, he killed and he pillaged, he had no problem with doing so in writing from ancient Greece, but in The Song of Achilles, he’s weak and seems opposed to fighting.

Inherently making Patroclus fall into a trope of a frail and weak "Bottom" who needs a stronger man to protect him

Achilles is everything Patroclus is not; he’s confident, he’s a good son, his father loves and is proud of him, he’s a good fighter, and Patroclus is painfully aware of that in the novel. Achilles is softer in The Song of Achilles than he is in the Iliad, and when the Greek soldiers kidnap Briseis from her home as a trophy, Achilles only takes her as his prize because Patroclus tells him to. Achilles has no interest in her, “She flinched as if expecting a blow. I saw the fear in her eyes, of rape and worse. I could not bare it.” (Miller 228). In Miller’s process of making Achilles softer, she wrote out the assault of Brieses. She was a trophy and ended up as Achilles’ bed slave, which was against her will.

I'm gonna say this here too: I have read TSOA multiple times! My copy is annotated front to back! I dislike the character portrayals, but that does NOT make Miller a bad writer! In fact, I reference TSOA multiple times in so many of my writings, but this blog and outside, if I could experience reading this book again, I'd love to! But it is not above criticism either!

Btw I have a new theory (might turn it into an AU for safety) that Judas might've been murdered and didn't actually commit suicide.

Because when you look into the retellings of his death, it sounds more like several people with similar interests had him removed from the picture and made stuff up to cover up his death.

Wouldn't the ultimate betrayer have his death "documented " a bit better as to settle him as an example? (For better or for worse)

You have on one end, the priests and the Romans working together to bring down a rabbi, known for doing religiously and political unlawful stuff for the benefit of the people, who have one of his followers seemingly on their side willing to sell him out for 30 silver coins.

On the other hand you have the other eleven apostles that upon hearing from John and Peter after the arrest, probably loathed Judas. Not to mention that they weren't the only followers and disciples Jesus had by that time, many more had joined in. Obviously you can't pin the blame and stain blood into a saint's hands, so for safety let's say it could've been a follower or a disciple who heard from the main eleven that Judas sold their rabbi, and wanted revenge for such an act.

It would make a little more sense too. Judas supposedly returned the coins upon gaining more clarity and realizing he fucked up and threw the coins back at the priests.

They obviously couldn't let go of Judas easily, because if he was trying to undo what he started, it would've been bad if he reached (and convinced to work together,even after betraying them) the other eleven disciples + whatever other followers they had gained in the ministry and they would've started a bigger revolt to get justice for their rabbi. If it became trouble for the Romans,it be trouble for them even more.

John and Peter were closest to Jesus as well, although Peter probably would've felt awful after his denials, I can't imagine he wouldn't have mercy and sympathy of Judas' regret and work together to free Jesus, putting everything aside.

Even then, let's say Judas returned the coins and went to find the other eleven to plan out how they were going to save Jesus, by then John and Peter would've told the other disciples and some others about what had happened. Regardless if the apostles would've helped or turn him down, who's to say other followers wouldn't have had a clear mind about it?

Imagine it. You're an average person, living in deplorable conditions, living under an imperialist regime who sees your people as a lesser race than other nations and kingdoms they trade with. You hear of a teacher, who spreads messages of love and mercy, feeds the poor and heals the sick. He's the messiah, who's supposed to free your people. Everyone assumes he is there to free the people from your colonizers,so you believe it too.

Aaaand then you hear that one of his closest students sells him out to the authorities for thirty pieces of silver. It be fair to be upset. Angry. Livid.

People would've reacted differently about that situation. Who's to say someone didn't react violently?

Either to avenge the rabbi or to get rid of him. If Judas was standing in the way, he had to be taken down too.
