Sims 2 Skintone Editor Program
Tumblr media
Since Sims 2 is an old game, it only has a limited amount of skintones, even the cc ones. And, if you want to create new skintones, you know that it's no easy task, with all the BMP files and such for just one skintone alone. Well, now, with this program, you don't have to manually adjust all of them, this program does that for you.
So, this program has two key features, 1. is to blend two skintones (if you want to make a middle shade from two skins, or blend two different skins from different cc creators and make a hybrid of that), and 2. adjust a skintone (brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation).
Video demonstration of me using the program (on Youtube):
youtube
Download the Program here (Mediafire)
Zip file contains two files, the python file (for transparency) and the actual exe program file.
If there's any errors, and/or if the program works on your computer please let me know so I can fix it. Constructive and positive feedback are absolutely welcomed! Happy Simming!
Note: I was able to make this image editor program because i have both a background in arts and in computer science, and mix that with a love for the Sims 2, and that's why I made this.
Update: Tried it on a separate machine it works y'all!

Fun fact bc i feel like a lot of people (myself included) have never heard of this story
There are two games that are running gags on the linux gaming dev server because they are just THAT broken: GTA4 and The Sims 2.
Apparently, one of the devs of d9vk/dxvk, who is/was at the time (?) employed by motherfucking Valve, spent a LOT of time on trying to fix The Sims 2 specifically and could not do it. Or, well, they did do it somewhat, because DXVK does help and the game runs wonderfully on Linux, but why it's running so bad on Windows remains a mystery.
This wasn't (just?) about pink flashing either, bc they were testing on Linux. They looked at draw calls and stuff like that and apparently it's completely cursed.
So yeah, in a way not only is EA failing to make the game run well, but Valve as well. That's what we're up against here. 🥴

Sims 2 Skin Adjuster Program V2 (Create your own custom skintone!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello, this is version 2 of my skin adjuster program.
Firstly, what is the "why" of this program?: If you've ever made a custom skin in the Sims 2 you know how tedious it is to do because you have to manually edit each bmp file and there are 40 bmp files for just one skin. This program aims to help in that. With this program if you want to quickly blend skins or adjust the color, saturation, etc. you can do it quickly in an instant, and the program will apply your changes to all the bmp files, no need to do it manually anymore! It's like an automated Photoshop.
youtube
If you've seen my Tumblr post on the V1 of this program, here are the the main updates that i made since then: 1. UI for the program, not command line anymore yay! 2. Teeth and eye areas of the skins are now unaffected 3. Added a color overlay feature
Quick no sound, straight to the point video demo of the program:
Disclaimer: This program only works on Windows. Also, if you use Bodyshop instead of SimPe to import or export the bmp files of the skins, there will be a slight reduce in quality, to no fault of my program. This is due to the compression problem of Bodyshop (I talked about it in a previous Tumblr post).
Download the Program here (Mediafire)
All types of feedback are welcomed! Happy Simming! Note: not sure if i explained it well but, for the output folder, you can either make a new folder or use a folder that already exists. If there are already bmp files in the output folder, the program will replace those.
P.S. Took me a while to write this Tumblr post. I was already done but Tumblr didn't save it : /

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if you remember, WAAAY back, I posted a video when we found out that The Sims actually started out as a addon for Simcity 2000. We got a couple of seconds of video.
Here's some more images, from TCRF, showing off sims and buildings. My guess is that this is after the 1994-5 docs that we got? So this may have been 1994-1996 at some point.
By 1996 at some point they'd moved on to more fully rendered Sims so I'd guess that this is early '96 at the latest?
Funny thing is, this is the earliest development for the SimAntics engine which means that this is ALSO the earliest development point for The Sims 2, since that was just an extension of the TS1 engine engine.
Who knows, maybe there is something from even THIS far back that made its way up to TS2? After all there are pictures of one of the Steering Committee build sims and some UI elements from 1998 left in TS2's files.
