Also, most are enchanted to shimmer or glow underwater, but only to others wearing a matching bracelet from the same pod. It helps family members find each other more easily underwater, which is why it’s super rare to see merfolk without one, especially kids.

A/N: Still establishing some more lore and feelings. Currently, the Batfamily has two yanderes. With more yandere’s being revealed outside of Gotham and some in Gotham about to start falling into obsession. Also, my favorite Reader is one who is manipulated into thinking the collar around their neck is a necklace. Will be working on Part Three, but it might take longer because we have obsessions starting and Reader starting to get to a breaking point.

Poor Reader has it rough. Not too rough, but still life kinda sucks and they wanna go home now, please and thank you.

But, as always, things start to brighten up a notch or two.

Reader is thriving at school, sure they can’t hang out with their friends, but their friends understand (which honestly kinda odd, but they’ll roll with it)

There is a small issue.

Reader is a metahuman. (I know, shocking. So unique.)

Reader controls the weather, at will or with extreme emotions (oooooo interesting)

Back in their hometown, Reader didn’t have to hide said abilities that much. (Hell, more than a few people knew about it. Such an understanding community.)

Here in Gotham, in a practical stranger’s house, they’re not gonna to that.

Which is fine. Fine fine fine

Okay, so Reader is tense. Doesn’t have a healthy outlet, and is bottling things up. So that storms brewing. Gonna be fun when that comes back to bite Reader in the ass.

But, things are looking up. (I swear this time!)

Duke and Cass are hanging out with Reader more. They’re sorta becoming a trio of amigos.

Though, they do disappear often. For long periods of time.

Reader is pretty sure Bruce is Batman, at this point.

They’re not stupid, it’s in their damn genetics to be somewhat intelligent, so to speak.

But, no one actually tells reader. It’s lead to some awkward situations of them going silent when Reader enters the room, or the manor being unusually empty after everyone went to the ‘library’.

(Smalltown doesn’t mean stupid, bunch of jerks.)

It just makes reader feel even less like they’re part of the family. Even Alfred disappears for a time, leaving Reader completely alone with nothing, but portraits and old wood furniture.

No one says anything. No one mentions a single thing. (Am I not worthy of the secret? Why did you drag me here only to ignore me?)

Bruce continue to bounce between ignoring and coddling. Yet gets upset if Reader does the same. (Making them anxious.)

Dick pops back in, immediately showering Reader and excessive amounts of affection before shooing them off cause he’s gotta take care of somethings. (It makes reader feel like a pet in a degrading way.)

Jason gets caught harassing Reader by Alfred. Which leads to a screaming match between Jason and Bruce. It’s a violent one, but Alfred drags Reader out of the room before they can see. (But they hear things breaking and It’s terrifying.)

After that, Reader is extremely cautious around Jason. Which for some reason makes him angry and more violent. (Why does he hate me? This is scary.)

Stephanie starts to come around. Slowly. They’re getting there. (Stephanie still prefers to hangout with Tim and Tim…)

Tim ignores Reader the most. Will not talk to Reader at all. Which sucks because Teader thinks they would total get along. (But, nope. All they get is the cold shoulder.)

Reader just avoids Damian like the plague.

Reader talks more often to her other half-brother living miles away than the one she’s currently living with. (That’s gonna piss Damian off later)

While Barbara remains cordial.

Life is moving on. We’re good. Everything’s good.

Wait? Gotham Academy is having its own student Gala? That sounds amazing! Getting dolled up, having a night with friends. Maybe…. Having a date escort them….

And the best part is, Bruce says Reader can go.

Now, Cass and Duke and Damian won’t be going. Which is a bummer, but Reader understands.

Bruce even buys reader something to wear.

An obnoxious designer outfit. (A couture ruffle monstrosity that’s all the rage on the runway.)

It’s so terrible you have to laugh. (Just to hide how upsetting it is that no one actually knows what you like here or bothers to ask.)

Reader even shows Stephanie and they share a laugh. (It’s great. Reader needed that laugh.)

But, there’s no way Reader is going to wear this. So, Reader calls their childhood friend and favorite fashion designer.

Commissioning a more mature outfit. (Reader is almost grown, time to take a break from the ruffles and embrace the sexy.)

BFF comes through and then a week later someone shows up at Wayne Manor. (Damn that was fast.)

Someone from Reader’s hometown, and this starts to set things in motion.

BFF’s older brother, Reader’s childhood crush, shows up holding a dress and driving Daddy’s old truck. Which he hands Reader the keys too.

Nana and Grand Daddy, the Step Grandparents, wanted to surprise reader with a gift from home. (Remind Reader how much better living in a smalltown is compared to somewhere like Gotham. How much their town adores them and misses them.)

Poor oblivious Reader. Not realizing their smalltown is so desperate to have them back. (Reader was their’s first, they know Reader best.)

Nor how desperate Gotham is going to be to make force reader to stay.

So i originally had this idea when i reblogged this post by @saphushia but i wanna just seperate it out as its own little prompt.

A quick context is that Danny seems to be roaming around Gotham like some homeless cryptid, kinda Bus to Nowhere style but with more vigilante interaction and casual offerings of first aid. And the batkids are keeping their adoption bait First Aid Cryptid(tm) secret from Batman.

One set of tags in the reblogs from @little-pondhead caught my attention

I came up with both funny answers and an angsty answer for that "#why?" but here's the angsty one (though i promice i actually envision it to be more hurt/comfort with a lot of family fluff)

Something happens, maybe a reveal gone wrong, maybe he got capture by the GIW, maybe he lost Jazz and his parents somehow.

Whatever it is, it leaves Danny with a need to escaped to a new dimension which just so happens to end up being the DCU. He winds up in Gotham and is just trying to start over, easier said than done but at there's plenty of heros around so he doesn't need to go ghost and he can still patch up the local vigilantes to feed his obsession. He's just not up to being Phantom yet and he's still recovering from whatever happened in Amity, whether it be mentally or physically.

Plus these vigilantes are kinda fun to mess with. Danny can practically see the gears turning as they try to put together and make sense of his little "lore drops", that Red Robin almost reminds him of Wes in a way.

Its not like he really needs to hide anyways. There's no GIW here, no Anti-Ecto Acts, if it really comes down to it he could probably pass as meta and fall under those protection laws. Judging by Signal, Danny's pretty sure Batman's bluffing on the whole "hating metas" thing anyways.

It takes awhile before Danny actually does meet the big bat himself and the reaction he gets is nothing anyone was expecting.

You see theres one little detail danny couldn't have been warned about, and its that there just so happens to be a version of Jazz here.

Except this Jazz lost her Danny when they were in high school, as in full on dead and gone Danny, no halfas here, the portal simply did not work and it was just regular ole lethal electrocution that hit her little brother.

What if she grew up with a young Bruce somehow, whether it be because CPS took her from the Fentons after her Danny's death or Amity Park simply doesn't exist in the DCU making Gotham the city with the thinnest veil and thus where the Fenton's chose to settle down.

This Jazz is an adult in her 40s but was once a kid smart enough to go to Gotham Academy on scholarship (or maybe the Fenton's had enough money from patents?). A kid who took one look at young Bruce's grumpy little face and decided he needed a honest friend, one that wasn't after status or money.

This Jazz grew up being a secondary voice of reason for Bruce, ganging up with Alfred in their own crusade to enforce healthy habits on him in between their weekly tea sessions.

This Jazz lost her brother and could not only understand Bruce's resoning on a minor level but encouraged his planned "journey of self discovery and healing". (Though the bat costume he made when he came back was unexpected and she gave him a look to rival Alfred for it)

This Jazz grew up to be a social worker because if anyone had cared enough to take her away from the Fenton's sooner then her brother might've still been alive

This Jazz being the one Bruce calls when he first gets Dick because holy shit he has no idea what hes doing and "Jazz, i just became a father, help!"

This Jazz being a sort of aunt to all the Batkids and is a major influence that has led to their dynamics being similar to Wayne Family Adventures

Bruce goes pale and later calls Jazz after he finally gets a glimps/meets the so called "First Aid Cryptid" his kids have been obsessed with. Because this kid that he's looking at with the barely visible lichtenberg scars... that's a face he hasn't seen in little over 20 years, that's his old friend's long dead baby brother.

Bruce sees danny and his mind rapidly jumps to all sorts of possibilities. Is this a clone? Is this a trap? Are the Lazarus pits involved somehow? Time travel? He does consider a ghost but this kid is too solid and they're nowhere near the old dilapidated Fenton Works building

Eventually, down the line when they get the full story of Danny being from an alternate dimension, Jazz might try to adopt him. Which has potential to be unhealthy but i fully believe Jazz would be aware enough not to project her decades old grief on this Danny, who is so similar but so different to her brother.

(Because I think a Gotham raised Danny would've been similar to a young Jason in street smarts so this Amity raised Danny is noticeably different)

Danny on the other hand... not sure if i could say the same, especially if he just lost his Jazz before winding up in the DCU. But again, this is an adult Jazz in her late 40s with professional experience dealing with traumatized kids, and she'll do her best to help him through it

Im imagining Jazz and Bruce to have a more platonic friendship, maybe even see each other as family, but you could go with Parent Syndrome if you want

So I see my drawing for the RusAme AUs got alot more love than I expected and I saw a few tags and a few friends asking what AU's are shown, and what is their plot.

I will say this, these are my AU's or an AU that I helped create. A lot of them are inspired by games or music, truthfully.

1. Monster Hunter

A big AU i am working in with @gremlins-hotel . We do plan to make a blog and reveal more of the AU eventually but with the new game coming out, we want to polish the plot a bit more before we post anything

Ivan being a Hunter from the New World and Alfred being a Rider, and his monstie Alti [a Tobi-Kadachi] being from a secluded tribe in the Old World.

2. Horizon x Hetalia

An AU based on the Horizon [ZeroDawn and ForbiddenWest] game series.

A post apocalyptic US setting where these guys made a clones of themselves along with their history to try and help aid the future generations.

But of course, time erodes everything. Even history and memories.

Alfred having his process to remember his history haunted due to a malfunction leaving him with broken memories and being in the hands of a very territorial tribe. He was raised a warrior struggling to remember this real name, all while Ivan is helping Matthew on the search to find Alfred .

3. Ersatz

One of my older but more proud AU's. A sci-fi, horror setting in the...strangely not so distant future with alot of drama between national embodiments and their yearn to be immortal through...experimental methods. Even if that means using an Alien for their own bodily needs.

4. Final Fantasy 14 x Hetalia

Astrologian Ivan and Red Mage Alfred, two Au Ruí from different tribes, grown in different ways, even told to hate one another. Yet they are somehow bound together...through time and soul.

5. XenoChronicles [name may change] *

Based on the multiple Mech Animes I've watched , (mainly) Xenoblade X and the few sci fi shows i grew up loving; these two are lost in space.

Alfred being a mechanic added onto the ship last minute, he is shown very little respect for being a cyborg. But Ivan being commander of a mech squadron who sees potential in the young man, even if he isn't completely human.

6. A Forgotten Story *

One of Two High Fantasy AUs where Alfred is the hier of a Dragon Goddess and has no clue of his heritage and Ivan being a Arch Mage of the Arcane. Some call the Mage a god but he is just highly skilled.

7. Godly Vessels *

Second of the two High Fantasy AUs where a cult tries to overthrow a kingdom by summoning a god using a peasants body for sacrifice. But instead the god shares the body with them (Alfred). Ivan being a unwanted Royal Guard from a neighboring kingdom (that was destroyed by these vessels) is to protect this entity.

Eventually his service will be a blessing.

8. Voodoo down Bourbon *

This isn't a official AU compared to the others rather a fun joke AU i couldn't help but include. Espically since Mardi Gras is just around the corner and I am from Louisiana.

Ivan based on drunken tourist gets a bit too cocky with a stranger, and Alfred being of course a voodoo artist takes advantage of the tourist.

Truthfully it was fun to throw my own speech and slang to Alfred, so to have him say cher is so fun.

Besides based on some local folk lore I'm sure he reminds you of a certain villain.

The ones with the stars after the name are ones that I posted maybe once or never posted because I was too embarrassed to share these ideas. I make quite a few AUs but sometimes it's just for comfort reasons or something just sparked a sudden idea and then actually thinking on the subject, it is scrapped.

Or even just for a quick doodle and the idea is gone

So to see you guys actually are interested makes me quite happy, espically since I've been very stressed.

Chapter 2.5

I'm working on chapter 3 right now but I'll give you some crumbs of information about the relationship of Reader ndd Tim Drake.

Tim Drake who has the closest relationship with Reader as siblings

Tim is the only Batsibling (+Robin!Jason but he died) that knows about the existence of Reader.

They met when Tim was just starting to be Robin and Bruce was very deep into his depression.

He realized that there was some debit card attached to Bruce's one, so he investigated and found nothing but way too many firewalls and software protection, so he ended up asking Bruce

And Bruce vented and VENTED HARD, like dude just dropped the biggest Dad Lore ever on how he met readers mom and that reader exists.

Bruce revealed to a 12-year-old Tim Drake that he has a child (14-15) living in Europe, and ended up asking Tim if he wanted to meet her.

A very skeptical and slightly emotional neglected Tim nodded.

He and Bruce flew to Europe with an excuse of looking for a lead of one of the cases they were working on (that's what they told everyone, even Alfred)

The next day Tim ended up meeting an Emo/goth!Teen!Reader that had a scowl (identical to bruce's when he gets pissed btw ) worse than Dick's when he met him (Tim), poor baby thought he was gonna get hated or screamed at.

Instead he got a sibling who would carry him around, coo at him, and baby him, they got him a new camera and coffee (decaffeinated and based on pure milk)

He drew stuff and she would stick it into the Fridge with a proud smile.

Tim would be able o rant for hours on stuff he liked and cases and Reader would sit there and listen.

Reader would bring him to her outings.

Tim won a big sibling, and Reader won a little brother + a shadow.

Tim followed reader around like a baby duck

They would go out to the park to take photos of birds plants, and everything, Reader would take Tim on her cool scooter.

Then they needed to go back to Gotham and Tim... cried a lot, wailed even as he hugged his now older sibling legs, he wanted Reader to go with them, but she couldn't, she had her life there, tho it broke her heart, but managed to keep Tim for crying promising that they could Facetime and call all the time.

Now Tim always went with Bruce every time he came to visit.

Every visit was somehow better than the last

Funny, happy, and exciting memories.

Until they weren't

A call from Bruce "..... Hey.... I know this.... I need youto do me a favor darling" your father's voice broke "Im gonna fly Tim to Europe w-with you" you could swear he was crying but you didn't mentioned it "He was involved in an accident, I needbyou to ake care of him for a while...... He can't be here in Gotham.... Not right now"

DC 1956: Batman gone... WOKE????/?questionmark??

Detective Comics #233 is the introduction of Kathy Kane, the Batwoman. In a shocking twist of history, she was created to make the comic less gay.

So, we all know the subtext about Batman and Robin. It is not a new thing to suggest that people, even back in the 50s, thought that they were gayer than Gorgeous George. Batwoman, aka Kathy Kane, was created to dispel those concerns by giving Batman a superhero love interest. Kathy would later be rewritten as both a lesbian and Bruce's cousin, which throws a bit of a retroactive wrench in things.

For the time period this comic was created in, they actually do a really good job with the character. Batwoman is presented as every bit as capable as Batman. At times she scoops him, other times she saves him. She relies more on gadgets than fisticuffs - and said gadgets are based on cosmetics because you know what those women are like - but she's still effective in a fight.

In the end, Batman uncovers Batwoman's secret identity, but Batwoman had a mutually assured destruction plan - an X-Ray camera that could effectively film through Batman's mask. Batman convinces Batwoman to give up on fighting crime, but she would be back within a year.

A story that adds something to the lore is in Detective Comics #235, which reveals that Batman's father, Thomas Wayne, briefly wore a Batman costume and fought criminals, although only one time. This story has some legs to it, and in the 2000s the concept was brought back as Dr. Hurt, who wore a version of Thomas Wayne's costume.

This is a recton to the classic origin that actually works for me. Batman is traditionally inspired by a primal fear, but this puts more emphasis on the influence that his parents had on him. Batman has always been motivated by the loss of his parents and - while his dad wearing a batman costume is kind of hokey - it is a good symbolism for the type of person that Bruce Wayne wants to be. Batman is a character defined by fear, but there are also aspects of love and hope in his character, and it's important to show that.

Another story that shows the more hopeful side of Batman is the cover story from Batman #101. This is a pretty simple story about how Batman's lost cape intersects with the lives of some ordinary people. A stuntman wears it to get publicity, a man getting mugged uses it to scare away thieves, and a man with a fear of heights uses it to get over his phobia. I genuinely like these kinds of stories because they show how the superhero doesn't need to fight crime to be a positive influence on people around him.

The wild thing is that this is premised on Batman and everyone in his orbit being terrible at their jobs. We're told that a detective Batman worked with had deduced his secret identity before dying. Before doing so, he mailed Batman a replica of his cape with "BATMAN IS BRUCE WAYNE" stitched on the inside. He didn't even put it in code or anything like that one guy did with Superboy.

Not only did Batman just keep that lying around unguarded next to their regular cape, but Alfred just casually switches them around and gives Batman the wrong cape, and then it just blows off of his head in the wind! Bruce. Listen. We're friends here. We love you. I get that everyone rolls a 1 on a saving throw from time to time but this is just some gross incompetence. I would expect this kind of chicanery from Ted Kord but not you, Bruce.

Not only does Batman have to get his fat pulled out of the fire by a random Superman encounter, he then immediately gives away Superman's secret identity to anyone who might be listening!

It's like why even be the Batman if you're not gonna take it seriously?

is it just me or can you also picture Andy as some sort of mixture of Alfred and Oracle and Tonks as Spoiler? like i get that they have very different backstories, but their personalities are so similar. also, Sirius as the Flash but runs into walls like Kid Flash, but Sirius also seems so much like Nightwing... sorry i just can't help but consider these now you have pulled me back into my DC (specifically Batfam and Flashfam, with a little Superfam) hyper fixation

OKAY OKAY SO, i think this might be sort of a long ramble, stay with me

first, let me introduce you to them:

i knew from the start of this au that i wanted luna to be steph, she would also fit tim's robin, i think, but steph has such a vibe, y'know, and i think it really suits her! she starts out as the fourth robin (after a list of other three, including draco, that i won't reveal yet), and ends up becoming spoiler. she's highly trained by her mom (who actually didn't want her to be a vigilante first, it was mostly self defense training, this is still gotham after all), and one of the smartest robins (riddle fears her)

as for pandora... she's a big character on this au, one of the most important, i'd say, she's reg's best friend, her twin brother is a wanted criminal, and yet, she still manages to be one of the greatest vigilantes in gotham. after becoming oracle, she tries, for a while, to stay away from everything, but then she just sees this little girl dressed up as robin (regulus did not recruit her) and she's just like 'wAIT THAT'S MY KID-"

as for andromeda, her character is more unique to this au:

dr andromeda tonks, nee black, head scientist and ceo of star tech (mainly performing in gotham under regulus' care, but the lab in star city is hers).

i did think of many roles to fit Andromeda (she was going to be the penguin, then batwoman...), but i wanted her to be in the star labs for a few reasons that have less to do with her.

andie, as a character, steped up as ceo of star tech as soon as her uncle and aunt (orion and walburga) passed, mostly because star tech used to be VERY shady before andie and reggie took charge. she's a brilliant scientist, and has a lot of interesting research on vigilante tech and metahumans.

she meets ted (lab's intern) after he spills coffee all over her during a meeting. they get married shortly after.

disclaimer: any resemblances between her and the clown queen of crime are mere coincidences (she swears)

as for why andromeda is in star city (and sometimes metropolis), and not gotham, other than wanting to be as far as possible from her family, is because of both sirius and tonks

i still have little idea of what they will be in this au. part of me wants to make sirius the flash (i have a little bit written on this), and tonks as impulse (or kid flash), but part of me also wants to make tonks nightwing (due to being slightly older) and sirius to be ollie

now i know, why the hell would sirius be the green arrow? hear me out: remus as black canary. that's marjorly it /j. but honestly now, the presumed dead firstborn of a very rich family, stays away for years while being trained, comes back and pretends to be the biggest party boy ever (this is more arrowverse green arrow, i think, but still), while going after everyone who associated with his parents? that's VERY sirius black for me.

yet, i can't deny sirius would make an AWESOME nightwing, like???????? it suits him so much and it doesn't even need lore explanation, nightwing's bissexual energy just screams sirius' name, yeah

bottom line is: i'm still deciding who'll be who when it comes to sirius and tonks

(by the way, never mind the designs, they're not ready yet-)

thinking about. vampire bruce. adopting werewolf dick grayson. and his little brother / fellow werewolf jason todd.

dick’s pack were his parents and the circus troupe. despite haly’s best efforts, after the elder graysons die, dick is taken by child services instead of staying with his pack

werewolves and vampires are known, but discriminated against in most places. gotham is, ironically, a safe haven for Creatures, largely because of the vampiric Prince of Gotham- Bruce Wayne. they also aren’t super common, making up about 30% of the world’s population in total

child services dumps dick (9) in an orphanage in gotham, which he promptly runs away from. on the streets he meets jason (7) and they stick together from then on, becoming each other’s pack (jason’s an orphan too)

dick (14) is helping jason (12) take the hubcaps off the batmobile when they are caught, and they book it until batman successfully corners them. he ends up bringing them to Ma Gunn’s School for Boys

soon after, they figure out Ma Gunn is running a crime ring using the students. they contact batman (after getting as many kids as they can out, of course) and bruce pretty much offers to take them in

they’re cautious about it, but know it’s a pretty good deal, so they agree. bruce brings them to the batcave and then up into the manor, revealing his identity right away so there’s no misunderstandings. they meet alfred (who immediately loves them) and spend the night exploring the house before falling asleep in one of the many spare bedrooms

after that they each get their own room in the manor, but both choose a room near each other and bruce. they sleep in bruce’s bed most nights, anyway (touch and scent are important things for werewolves, bruce learns).

eventually the two start heckling bruce about training them, which he eventually gives in to (puppy eyes are extra effective when it’s from a werewolf). dick chooses the name Robin and jason decides he might as well go along with it so it becomes Batman and his Robins

dick tells bruce and jason about tony zucco and all of that happens pretty much the same but with jason there as emotional support and also Werewolf Stuff (dick leaves a claw mark on zucco as a permanent reminder)

dick joins the teen titans at 16 but still lives in the manor. at this point he has become Nightwing and gives the Robin title fully to jason

when dick is 17 he goes on an off-world mission, giving jason a bear hug before he leaves (it’ll be the longest they’ve been apart since they met 8ish years ago) iykyk what’s abt to happen

during that time, jason is kidnapped by the Joker when he goes on patrol (without telling bruce). joker sets a trap for batman, of course, and beats jason with a silver crowbar coated in wolfsbane (shush let me combine lore)

jason dies. bruce brings his body back to the cave and puts it a cryofreeze chamber, waiting for dick to get back before they bury him and have a funeral

bruce calls dick the next day and tells him. he sends clark to bring dick back and another hero to replace him so the mission can continue

right as dick gets back, however, superboy-prime messes with the universe and jason un-dies, much to the batfam’s surprise and happiness

he still needs to recover from some injuries, but his werewolf healing is almost working properly again so it doesn’t take more than a week or two

dick kills the joker. bruce doesn’t stop him.

The creature that donated their bone to craft this magic ring always knows the direction of the ring while it is on the same plane of existence.  —— I first felt that I was being watched a week ago. I was walking home after acquiring some knick-knacks from the market, when I heard something moving in step with me. The street was deserted when I turned to look around, so I must have imagined it, but the sensation lingered.

When I got home, I waited at the window for a minute or two, but nothing revealed itself. I live alone, after Alfred passed away, so I have to be careful. That night, I gift-wrapped the items I had purchased: a crimson cloak, a taxidermied raven, and a ring of bone. My nephew’s birthday was the next day, and he loves those kinds of morbid oddities. 

I was sure I had taken the ring, but when I came home after the party, it lay unwrapped on my bedroom dresser. My nephew had been satisfied with his gifts, so I decided to toss the ring. You’ll understand how startled I was when I woke the next morning, wearing it on my ring finger. In fact, no matter how many times I try to cast the ring away, I always wake with it on.

All the while, the sensation that someone is watching me remains. My house is old and it creaks from time to time, but the floorboards have been especially vocal since I bought the ring. Many times I’ll be cooking or otherwise busy with chores and I’ll suddenly pause, overcome by the feeling that someone is standing just behind me. Nobody ever is, of course.

It took me long enough, but I know now that the ring could only be a gift from my dearly departed Alfred. From beyond the grave, his soul is reminding me that we will always be together. I’ve hidden the ring again. Tonight I will lie awake but pretend to sleep as he returns it to me, so that I can see my beloved Alfred one last time. - 🖌🎨 Like our work? REVERSE ENGINEERING THE PURPOSE OF THE CROWN OF ILLUSIONS

just hear me out. then you can tell me if im insane.

in bloodborne, there is a unique piece of head wear called "the crown of illusions". it serves a single purpose: to open an illusory wall revealing the location of an otherwise entirely hidden NPC, annalise, queen of the vilebloods.

the crown is dropped after a boss battle and you are intended to put it on immediately after the fight so that the fake wall can be revealed in a cut scene. they did NOT want you to miss this mechanic. otherwise, why not simply have the throne room blocked by a fog gate? its fine for other bosses, right?

this mechanic is never used again. this is insanely weird because 1. there are other illusory walls in the game specifically in the chalice dungeons (twice, i believe, in the lowest possible levels). however, they function like standard fromsoft illusory walls and are revealed by hitting them with a weapon. the crown does nothing. and 2. there is otherwise no satisfactory explanation for this mechanic at all.

i have often expressed my frustration that when things dont "line up" in fromsoft games its chalked up to dev error or some flavor of "its all dreams/made up" which i refuse to entertain unless its the last possible explanation barring literally all others. this stupid crown has been bothering me for years because of how seemingly inexplicable it is. this has been doubled by the fact that the crown is not unique; alfred leaves a crown of his own (and must have had it to enter the queen's chambers) at the end of his quest and the titular sages of the "sage's hair" item are depicted as wearing crowns.

visually, the sage items are based off the real life concept of catacomb saints (and, in fact, i think "saint" would have been a better translation over "sage" considering this, but thats neither here nor there), hence the gems and jewels and crowns and shit. that part makes sense to me just fine. but where else would this illusion mechanic have been used?

ill tell you where: in the secret 4th layers of the "canon" (non-root) chalice dungeons!

canonically, there is only one chalice dungeon with a 4th layer, otherwise they all end at layer 3. this also intrigued me bc of its irregularity in a system of "dungeons" that are almost entirely copy-pasted rooms; why choose a completely random chalice in the middle of the sequence have an extra layer?

i came up with my own explanation for this that works a treat: the chalice in question, lower pthumeru, has rom the vacuous spider as its THIRD LAYER boss. rom is a boss you would have first encountered outside of the dungeons who has a unique ability: to block rituals and secrets from sight. the rom you fight in the main story is hiding a secret ritual and killing her reveals the ritual to the world. the rom you fight in the dungeons is hiding a secret layer of the labyrinth wherein the hunter will find a truly terrible secret: the source of the beast blood.

we now know this fourth layer IS narratively intended to be a secret layer...because EVERY story-related chalice dungeon had a secret 4th layer! they are "fully functional" if not a bit odd/broken (but not NEARLY not to the point of other hacked dungeons) but with bosses that either fucking suck or are placeholders (...or im coping lol). but look at this: ive timestamped this video at the point where the 4th layer elevator "reveals" itself!

other boss room exits are simply blocked by a fog wall (or, if you're on the last layer, it dead ends and you use the lamp to warp out). this "fade in" effect is the illusory reveal effect! as the linked post from the eternally fascinating hard work from r/tombprospectors reveals, there is some weird ass shit in these layers. enough that i started a red string wall of madness to try to keep track of it all. its not even weird stuff in a game dev way, i mean weird in a plot and lore way. its awesome lol.

the 4th layers were only discovered within the last 2 years. i am confident now about the mechanics of how this was intended to work, but still shaky on the ~lore implications~. what were kings and saints only permitted to see and access? what were they privy to that the rest of the populace of the dead civilization was not?

LORE THEORY: THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE AND USE OF THE CROWN OF ILLUSIONS WAS TO REVEAL SECRET 4TH LAYERS OF THE CHALICE DUNGEONS, AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR EXISTENCE IN THE GAME CODE AND MEANS OF ACCESS. THEY CHOPPED IT OUT DUE TO THE USUAL FROMSOFT DEV CYCLE INCLUDING A PART WHERE THEY SPILL EVERYTHING ON THE FLOOR MINUTES BEFORE LAUNCH AND HAVE TO PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER QUICKLY

You become a Lyctor by utilising the "Eightfold Word" and absorbing the soul of your cavalier. At least, that's what all the current and hopeful Lyctors thought before the revealing chapter at the end of Harrow the Ninth. There appears to be a way that you can gain Lyctoral power without killing cav or necro. Though so far, only John did this with Alecto, who is a special case. Anastasia almost managed, according to John, who admits to killing her cavalier. John is probably lying about some or all of this - maybe Anastasia got too close to doing it right, and he couldn't risk all his secrets being unveiled, so he killed Samael in order to save face. Maybe if he'd let Samael live, they would have attained perfect Lyctorhood.

I'm reasonably certain that you can also attain Lyctorhood by fusing souls in the body of the cavalier. A current example of this is Gideon the First, and Pyrrha, who mentioned Gideon "took more", and he is described as unusually buff for a necromancer. Could it be that they attained Lyctorhood "in reverse", using Pyrrha's body? Or is their body an unholy fusion of the two bodies? It's not made entirely clear - Pyrrha refers to it as "his body", which leans towards the second option, but her eyes are described as suiting the face more, which favours the first.

It's said that the cavalier part of the Lyctors have no sense of self, only fighting muscle memory. I highly doubt that this is even a little bit true. It's at least partially untrue - Pyrrha is an example, as is Gideon the Ninth. What about Naberius, then? Alfred and Cristabel? What about Alecto?

(Alecto is a special case, again, we'll get to her.)

I'm fully not ruling out the possibility that the cavs are all still in there, and while the necro parts are dipping into the river to hunt revenants and make wards against Resurrection Beasts, the cavaliers in the bodies could easily be plotting. The cavaliers could all be on Eden's side, for all we know - we don't know where Pyrrha's allegiance lies. And we Know that all Lyctors have had dealings with them at some point. (I'm still very much expecting that to include Ianthe and Harrow, btw.)

I think all those times when the souls of the necromancers were in the River, the cavaliers were busy plotting with each other in their necromancers bodies.

All that aside - in what we see as "normal" Lyctorhood, the only visible part of the cavalier inside the necromancer's body are the eyes. This leads me to believe that Lyctorhood isn't just a fusing of souls, but a fusing of brains.

Anatomically, the eyes are a part of the brain. We've seen people with golden yellow and with lilac eyes, unusual colours for eyes to be. Could be a result of genetic altering? But in Lyctors, the eyes change, and in Ianthe's case, keep fluidly changing - in Harrow and Gideon's case, and evidently in Gideon and Pyrrha's, the eyes are an indicator of which soul is "present", awake.

Narratively, souls and brains are inherently linked. Brains and minds are basically interchangeable. In order to kill something - a planet; a revenant - you have to kill its body, and you have to destroy the brain in the river. You can go into the River as a mind only, or take your body with you. Oh, speaking of...

A/n: the Kingdom of León is the modern day province of León in Spain, Reader's mother is Leónese, or technically Spanish. I also apologize for making too much lore for Y/N's mom but i needed a reason a clairvoyant witch is allowed to live and annoy Alfred as much as Aethelwold

“He is a monk!” Your mother exclaimed in disgust.

“He’s not a monk, he was never ordained. Lady Thyra gave him those robes as a gift.” You counter after having gotten to know your betrothed in the hour or so you spent in his room last night.

You had expected them to be angry for going out of your way to get a husband, but then again, your family was not at all like the others.

“He is second in line for King Alfred’s throne, my love.” Your father pinched the bridge of his nose as his wife fumed over the match. “A cold or a hunting accident could make your daughter Queen of Wessex.”

“Kings die and blood doesn’t make a king. Besides, it is not young Osferth’s destiny to be king just as it wasn’t for the crown to pass to Aethelred’s sons.” Your mother argued. Mother was the only woman to get kicked out of Wintanceaster and be welcomed back just as often as Uhtred of Bebbenburg.

The first for demanding her dowry be paid back to her after her husband, the late King Aethelred, died in battle, the second for eloping with your father ,an Ealdorman with some influence, and most recently, engaging in a battle of wit against Brother Godwin where both seers revealed deeply personal secrets to the horror of all those assembled.

Mother won by revealing Godwin uses his position and ability to get comely servant girls in his bed.

She had been so distraught when she learned Uhtred had killed him, she had been hoping to kill him herself by inviting him to dine with her.

“You had no qualms on having them as guests these past nights.” You interject having inherited your mother’s stubborn streak and your father takes that as his cue to leave on the excuse of needing to ask Father Beocca about whether your bride price would be paid by the Lord of Coccham or the King of the Saxons.

“That is because guests leave, besides you know well why I am opposed to this match.” Your mother countered. “What would happen if he came to discover Abraham’s God isn’t the source of our abilities?”

You are witches, your mother had come from a long line of them dating back to before the Romans conquered her homeland. The family had eventually decided they would say God was the source of their power thus when they fell from grace in the fledging Kingdom of León, the Pope would be forced to save them.

Well, at least her, the only one of her siblings to inherit her father’s abilities.

According to lore she grew up to be such a beauty she that the King of León and the Emir of Córdoba both offered for her when she came of age only to meet Aethelred and Alfred of Wessex in Rome resulting in her being packed on a ship to Wessex the moment Aethelred became a widower some years later.

She is very sure you have inherited her gifts, but you have grown and no ability like that has manifested in you. Except for her knack for healing, of course.

Perhaps your daughters will have both abilities, you hope Osferth does not mind a bit of magic if it does happen.

“Father Beocca’s wife is a witch, and he speaks well of her.” You say hoping to wear her down. You do not need the permission of the once Queen of Wessex to wed Osferth, but you’d like your mother to be on board with it.

“That is a vile rumor, Thyra is just a Dane. I better not hear you repeat Aethelwold’s drivel again, daughter.” Your mother corrected and you apologized immediately.

“I promise you that Osferth is not at all like the last priest you killed.” You swear and she softens.

That priest didn’t choke on a bone, mother stared at him until he did when he questioned the paternity of your eldest brother whom everyone thinks is the late king’s son.

“Fine, you may wed him, but the moment Alfred’s bastard proves to be unworthy of you, I get to kill him. It has been a while since I was last banished from Wintanceaster.” Your mother relented thinking he won’t return for you as he promised. She’s seen something, she is hiding it, you know it. “But I do like that you showed initiative, well done, my girl.”

“I envy you; you get to see so much of Britain and the furthest I have been to is Lunden.” You walk with Osfeth in the gardens, right where all can see you, so he doesn’t try anything.

He is not like that, mama, you had protested when she sent a maid with you.

“If anyone had told me a year ago, I would be traveling with warriors instead of taking holy orders, I would not have believed them. Perhaps after we are wed, we could travel to see anything you like, my lady.” He is nervous, hides it, but does that same thing King Alfred does by hiding his hands behind his back as if they had no idea what to do with them.

Come to think of it Aethelric, your eldest brother, does it too. Perhaps the rumors were true, or maybe just father was too closely related to the Kings of Wessex.

Anyways.

“Y/N, Osferth.” You playfully remind him and he smiles. You like his smile, made your heart skip a beat even when it wasn’t directed at you.

Now that its directed at you, you aren’t even sure you are breathing still.

“I do not think your lady mother would let me keep my limbs if she heard me use your name, y/n.” he says your name almost in a whisper for fear of your chaperones hearing him say it and report it to the Leonese lady who employs them. “I don’t think she likes me much.”

“Only because she doesn’t know you. She did not even know you weren’t actually a monk.” You just dress like one which is a little strange if you must ask. “She looks forward to knowing you and getting kicked out of Wintanceaster again.”

“Again?” he asks unaware of your family’s history. But then again Uhtred and his men were banished after they were.

“Mother engaged in a battle of secrets with Brother Godwin and won. King Alfred was pressured by his lady wife and the church to punish her in some way despite her being her.” You answered and you suppose now you must tell him about his children with you may be seers on the first official meeting as betrotheds.

Something mother may have foreseen which now explains the setting and number of chaperones.

“My mother is a seer, a God’s given gift passed down in her family since before Christ even walked the earth.” Which means you or your children will have it. “It is why she was brought to England from León.”

“Are you one too?” he asks the question everyone immediately makes when they see you. Your brothers don’t get that one often, mainly because they believe it passes from mother to daughter.

“No.” you shake your head hoping he’s not disappointed by your answer. “Much to everyone’s disappointment, I am not.”

“I find that hard to believe.” He speaks it so earnestly that the two of you stop walking and you forget how to breathe.

“That I am not a seer like her or that other thing?” you ask forgetting what you had even said when he steps close enough for you to make out a smattering of freckles peeking form his collar. He hasn’t even done anything except listen to you and yet you are swooning.

Fainting dead away would still not have been as embarrassing as retching in his room like you did last night, come to think of it.

“I find it hard to believe anyone would think you are a disappointment, Y/N.” For a man afraid to use your given name he has no such fears when he takes your hand in his and, worse, brings it to his lips.

Instead of doing something romantic that would not make you look like an idiot, you giggle nervously.

Not that it ruins the moment, you think as the both of you lean in daring to scandalize the entire household. Your stomach is aflutter from the excitement, the strange heat you feel stemming from your hand ---which he is still holding as if it were precious to him despite the two of you being strangers--- and knowing your infatuation appears to be mutual.

“May I kiss you?” he asks as his other hand comes to gently cradle your face.

For a moment the world around the two of you disappears and in the middle of a crowded garden, you have your first kiss.

“You may thank me for the oysters by naming your firstborn daughter after me, dearest.” Your mother passes by arm in arm with a very amused Lady Thyra.

We’ve seen a lot of Jay and Vel, but what about Daniel?

Well! Daniel was always a pretty privileged man, he was raised in wealth. He had found Jay when they were young, late teens… and had lied about his wealth so he wouldn’t almost demean Jay.

The two were VERY close, however Daniels family was a very religious one, so he had internalized homophobia. When Jay had gotten together with Vel’s birth mother who doesn’t have a name yet, Daniel got distant. Jay had the dedication to Daniel before and after the death of Vel’s mom.

After Vel was born, Jay decided he’d try and confess, and alas!!! It worked. Was it the best? No, not really, it was more of a “Dan I need your help but I also love you can you help me”

Then yk. Jay left. This left Daniel in a very uncomfortable state. Him, a young child that wasn’t really his, and a lot of inherited money. So what did he do? He went back to his old ways, and used that money to build himself up again. For his own sake and Vel’s sake. Daniel used quite some money to get a stable home, nothing grand or massive at first, but it was enough to start on his writing career.

It took him a while to get a true breakthrough, but when he did people LOVED his works. He was famous by the week. Sold copies, events, he had everything going well.

However, through all this fame and success, he still kept quiet and stayed private with him and Vel. Not a lot of people really knew who he was, just the rumors. Eventually his face got revealed and he was exposed to the public, which caught the attention of many people. Many… Many people.

This caused the two to move around a lot, eventually landing in a nice mansion that overlooks a lake, protected by fences made of wire and trees. Very cozy if you ask me! It’s nothing grand or luxurious, but Daniel made it a very clear thing that he wasn’t going to waste his money on himself. Rather, he’d spend all his money on Vel. She needed a father that cared.

When Jay had killed himself things went haywire fast, since Vel wanted to confirm Jays death, Daniel reluctantly let her go to ramshackle, and we all know how that is…

Currently? They all live together in a huge mansion that Jay chose (not so surprisingly,) surrounded by a lot of wealth and luxurious items, but it’s never really enough. Vel, Jay, and Daniel are all aware that there’s some tension and frustration between all of them, but Vel’s the only one determined to erase that.

Every other night she proposed a family dinner, often it’s Daniel that cooks because let’s be honest here, Jay would make a fucking crazy good barista or drink maker, Daniel is a good cook, it works out.

Vels the baker. No questions. Anyways!

The family dinners are nice, they’re just often chatting and gossiping (they like to talk shit. And by they I mean Jay and Vel are gossip girlies and Daniel just nods along while doing his own thing)

But things are slowly getting better!!! That’s all that counts, right? Yeah :))))

Daniel is legally blind, he can’t be trusted to drive or anything without his glasses (although he prefers to go without them…)

Vel is short but DEADLY. She was taught a lot of self defense techniques by Daniel just in case her time in Ramshackle went wrong!

Vel is stubborn but somewhat easily manipulated, she’s good at manipulating others but she’s oblivious to her own manipulation. (Hint hint. Ditch can use this against her…)

Vel actually isn’t fond of getting all dressed up!! She likes to stay more casual, although Jay would prefer if she were to dress to her rank (fancy dresses, etc.) but she likes hoodies/jackets and normal clothes.

Vel visits a lot of events, she’s famous for her modeling career! She’s been elected Ramshackles sweetheart SO many times, and she makes it her mission to win it every single year for now on. (Yes, this includes Jay giving the judges money to give her perfect scores…)

Vel is experienced with piano, violin, harp, and dancing! She loves ballet and dances that people would do in a ballroom!

Vel’s room is one of her only spaces in which she’s comfortable to be open in. She has a lot of random things and stuff, things such as a pink piano, a pink violin with white accents, some photos of her modeling work, etc.

Due to her class, Velvette has a special education program that involves her being home schooled, thankfully Daniel is a smart man! Jay is also smart too, but Jay focuses more on teaching her finance and history while Daniel handles the rest.

Vel has a personal butler, maid, and bodyguard! The reason why we haven’t seen them much is because she chooses not to associate much with them, and the bodyguard stalks from a while away, as to not get too much into her personal space.

Vel has a big stupid crush on Ditch I fear… however, she’s trying not to make the big action to confess because she (and her dads) believe that it’s the man’s / etc job to flatter her. As we can assume, this causes a huge rift in the glitterbomb relationship… sigh.

Vel was originally gonna be a love interest for Vinnie! But I decided Ditch needed a bitch.. He needs someone I fear.

Vel has a silent enjoyment towards silly little creatures. Her room is very obscure compared to what she appears! However, her favorite animal is a unicorn- JUST KIDDING! It’s a mudskipper!! She’d never admit it though.

Velvette has a pet mudskipper named Princess!!

Vel also has a pet cat named Nosferatu! Nessie for a shorter name. Hes the cat that Jay had possessed early in his ghost era! A fluffy ragamuffin. He’s still connected to Jay through some form of soul bond, but it works out well!

After spending a long time, Vel convinced her dads to let her have her own garden! Her favorites are her tulips, lilacs, and the aconite flowers!

Velvette has a piece of jewelry that can call upon Jay at any time, he’s still partially a creature from the underworld which gives him the ability to have some magical abilities as before, however they’re rarely used.

Aaand we’ll see where this goes later. For now

Henriett thoughts

Henriett honestly has such a cool interaction potential, no less than some other NPCs with the hunter, if only devs gave her dialogue. As far as promo materials and merch suggest, the Hunter arrives from foreign land but adapts to Yharnam and starts wearing Hunter Set - same as what Henriett wears, only her set has cape and top hat instead of the cap! This is the type of a normal hunter descending from the one that Gehrman started, as suggested by this set drawing strong inspiration from Old Hunters clothes! They're hunters that still care about the hunt and refuse to abandon it, carrying on the quest of their ancestors...

Henriett easily could work as one of the characters that helps the hunter to get into what the heck is going on, a lot like Alfred, Eileen or Valtr! More importantly? This interaction is basically anti-Alfred. Henriett is a summon against Emilia, Ludwig and Laurence, who are all important Healing Church members, and she uses Church weapons, suggesting she might have once sided with the Healing Church but saw through their bullshit and turned against them! A function that ended up passed to Simon, which is fine, but aside of balancing gameplay and storytelling, just in one's imagination? She is very anti-Alfred encounter for our Hunter x)

Interestingly, there is a cut situation where we'd find her dead (presumably that's how she'd become a summon in Hunter's Nightmare). Hunter's Nightmare is also ONLY available after defeating Emilia, so like... hmmm I wonder why? Maybe they were planning to have Henriett actually die or be dying after Emilia is defeated? That Soulsborne thing where you reload the area only to find out that an NPC you liked is dying for a dumb reason or something sfdjhhd

But also imagine if that was Alfred's fault, or even something foreshadowing Bloody Crow (that he waited for her to be weak after Emilia's battle and snuck up on her to backstab like a rat that he is, since blood dregs he is seeking ARE found in the blood of hunters). Former is sure less preferred though since it repeats Simon and Brador situation with the 'church idiot kills a local loredigger that saw through the institution's bullshit despite having once been the staff', sooooo yeah. (On the other hand, since when Soulsborne is opposed to 'history repeats itself' situations?) I think they simply could work as kinda opposing NPCs who are both very open about Yharnam's lore despite everyone else not liking to talk with the outsiders! Maybe even contrasting: Alfred is acting very friendly and warm towards Hunter and turns out to be a deranged fanatic under that mask, so imagine if Henriett, despite providing lore to us all the same, was actually kinda snarky and reeking of 'git gud' attitude, to reveal having been a good person in the end of her questline that doesn't deserve to die?

Her passing the lore-dropper function via Nightmare is of course tricky because, again, we already have Simon to do that... But imagine if whereas Simon follows us down to the Church's most terrible secret, Henriett instead talks with us about Old Hunters stuff, such as Oto Workshop and how it rolled into Powder Kegs instead and why, some legendary ones, how they started and were overshadowed by Ludwig's hunters, all that. She must have studied them a lot to take the mantle of their style despite them going extinct save for few NPCs like Henryk or Djura, and could provide interesting information!

Also imagine Hunterriet shipping as "rival" ship to Alfhunter fdhhfds Bloodborne provides some dilemmas of 'nice vs evil' ships like Hunter x Arianna or Hunter x Adella, Hunter x Simon or Hunter x Brador, etc.

(I will be real though, Eld3n Ring might have spoiled me with more dialogue, interactions and unciphered lore than what I am used to, so that's why I suddenly want her to talk and to be important for the Hunter hahah.)

recently I've been thinking a lot about my toyhouse corners guys as I continue working on their comic, especially basil, alfred, foster, and mac :) coincidentally (or not so) they're the four of the cast who do the most yearning and pining and of course I'm very normal about all that (that's a lie they all make me insane). I can't wait to reveal more about them, I could (and will) talk about them for ages (any questions always welcome, I'll try not to spoil anything too big). particularly I've been thinking about basil's past, his complex troubles with getting close to people, and his relationship to whisk, a troubled kitten who he sees a lot of his younger self in and may or may not be fixated on trying to help because he wishes he could somehow reach though time and help himself when he was a kitten in a similar position to her. all in all I am very excited to keep putting those guys in situations (there will be a candyland, a creepy safety village-esque town, and a mirage-like travelling megastore called appleworld in their future).

I've also been thinking (as I often do) about my tragic fantasy gays, sebastian & konstantine. I've been busy enriching their world with lore and planning out their story so I can start (yet another) draft for the first book of the grey circle, and with that comes a lot of thinking about those two, the haunted prince & his begrudgingly valiant knight who knows him better than anyone and yet cannot know him fully because of his unfathomable secret... oh, there's just something so intimate about being doomed by the narrative and bound together, done part by none, not even death <3 they're very enemies to lovers in a "we're on the same side but I can't stand you but I also can't stand to be without you and if anyone messes with you I'll kill them" way, which I can't get enough of myself.

also! the grey circle has lots of characters I haven't posted about nearly as much but are so dear to me and that I oft rotate in my brain, like ilèan & cainiph, who are a very skilled fairy princess with truly profound mommy issues and cain-and-abel vibes with her sister & an adrenaline junkie bounty hunter who is a bit of a hothead and accidently becomes a werewolf :) another mismatched pair that end up needing each other as much as air. and of course, gren & bain, the little mousy halfling-type creatures who are inseparable best friends in love beyond words, a sly bartender & a leisure-loving bard respectively, both incredibly curious and brave beyond credit, setting out to right a wrong and solve an old family mystery. I think about the grey circle very often, it's one of my favourite little worlds to visit in my head & I can't wait until I have something written that allows others to visit as well :)

the last herd of ocs I've been preoccupied with lately are my room & board cast, the characters for a comic idea I have about silly and bizarre sci-fi/fantasy comic about alternate-dimension-faring roommates travelling in a house-turned-spaceship in search of a (the?) holy grail. they're all old ocs of mine (6+ years I think) that I've rebooted a few different times, and returning to them after some years off feels like reconnecting with old friends as cheesy as that sounds. I genuinely missed them, and I'm excited to be messing about with a story for them again, even if it's just for fun. I've especially been thinking about the main(est) character, martin, and how her journey with transness fits into their larger existential and relentlessly silly adventures.

I love talking about them but I'm not always sure anyone wants to hear, but perhaps it's time I curb that mindset and just start putting more out there because it's fun for me :) also! if anyone reads all this, first of all thnk you for indulging me, and second I am genuinely always open to hearing about other people's ocs, whether through ask or dm or whatever! I know it can be intimidating to just reach out of the blue but I really do love talking about people's characters / stories / creations and I am always open to it. maybe I ought to make some more dedicated venue for that sort of thing but yeah casual oc chat is always an option!
