I'm sorry, but this information is very dishonestly presented.
Your very first claim, "commercial leather is not biodegradable because it is tanned with chromium", struck me as odd. The implicit claim that all commercial leather is tanned with chromium stuck out to me because I knew it wasn't true. Leather can be either chrome tanned or vegetable tanned, which is something the study linked explicitly acknowledges:
"In this present work, biodegradability of untanned, chrome tanned and vegetable tanned leather under anaerobic conditions has been addressed."
It seems very weird to me to ignore vegetable tanned leather when it literally makes up a third of the study linked. The link only gives snippets of everything after the introduction, so I decided to pull up the full study on sci-hub. The claim that chromium, is "a carcinogen, [that] releases into groundwater supplies when buried or into the air when burned" is only somewhat true. Chromium metal and trivalent chromium (Cr3+) ions are considered non-toxic, but hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) is toxic and carcinogenic. So Chromium (Cr) is not toxic, but one of its ions, Cr6+, is. Now, the study says this:
"In the land co-disposal method, leaching of Cr3+ from the tanned leather wastes to groundwater due to acid rain limits the dumping process."
Co-disposal just means two or more wastes disposed together, and land disposal usually refers to landfills (though can also refer to a surface impoundment, waste pile, land treatment facility, and more). Not only is the chromium ions being leached out NOT the carcinogenic form, it also specifically occurs due to acid rain; it is not a problem inherent to land disposal. Acid rain is something that we have made successful efforts to reduce and could potentially eliminate with proper efforts. You are correct about burning leather, however:
"Conversion of Cr3+ to Cr6+, which is a well known carcinogen, is possible during incineration."
Technically, I could quibble that it’s only a possibility rather than a guarantee, but really, who cares. Moving on, the claim that it wasn't biodegradable also surprised me, because I've always heard the opposite. I assume that claim is pulled from this?
"However, solid leather wastes generated from leather processing [...] are generally disposed off in the dumpsite and render the solid waste management system highly inactive because of the non-biodegradability of the tanned leather. During the processing of leather, tanning is one of the unit operations in which the tanning agents react with the collagen matrix, stabilizing the protein and collagen; thereby the leather acquires resistance towards chemical, thermal, and microbiological degradation."
To me, this reads less like a statement of leather being 100% non-biodegradable, and more like referring to biodegradability as a spectrum of ease, with the tanned leather falling on the higher, more resistant end. The very premise of the article supports this reading: "Biodegradability of leathers through anaerobic pathway". They're testing how well anaerobic organisms can break down leather. They don't identify exactly which species are present, but anaerobes include protozoans, bacteria, and some types of fungi, among others. And sure enough, right at the very end:
“The present study is the first of its kind on the degradation of tanned leather wastes. The results proved that degradation of chrome tanned leather waste is possible using anaerobic sludge and is better than vegetable tanned leather waste.”
This is biodegradation. The entire study is about attempting to come up with an alternate solution to dumping the waste in landfills or burning it, and they were successful! It was literally the first study of its kind! There's something so depressing about a study presenting a new eco-friendly alternative to dumping or burning being used to dismiss leather because dumping and burning it is bad. I also can’t help but note that this article was published in 2006. Who knows what advances have been made since then?
The second link is not a study, but an article. There was no source provided for the claim that farmed fur accounts for 80-85% of global trade, and I couldn't find a source that explains how and why it got the numbers it did, so if anyone knows, please let me know.
But this claim isn’t that important, because the more important one is that farmed fur “is ‘no more sustainable than textiles made from petroleum’ and has a higher impact on 17 of 18 studied environmental themes, including climate change and toxic emissions when compared to cotton, acrylic, polyester (imitation fur) and wool”. This is an unfair representation of the content.
The article actually links a study (though the link is broken, and not in English) and says it’s specifically about mink fur farming. Assuming I take the article at its word, and assume the study says what it says it does, that doesn’t form an argument against fur farming as a whole. Just as pointing out how negatively beef production impacts the environment isn’t an argument against meat as a whole, pointing out the negative effect of mink farms isn’t an argument against fur as a whole. If that information exists, why not present it? If fox and raccoon and rabbit and whatever else fur farming is just as bad as mink farming, why not show the studies? Why am I being asked to extrapolate one study of unknown quality about one specific animal out to the entire industry?
From what I can tell about the last study, the claims you made were all correct. However, it has a similar problem to your first study in that you’re linking to an article seeking to fix the very problem you’re talking about, which seems odd to me. The industry is aware of the problem and solutions are being developed.
I don’t even necessarily disagree with your ultimate point, animal products are not perfect and their production can be harmful. But I don’t understand why you’re presenting this so unfairly. If the goal is to push for people to demand better environmental regulations, why is the misinformation necessary? It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
i love fur, i love leather, i love wool, i love long lasting materials without plastic in them that will decompose and go back into the ecosystem after serving me well for several decades.

The Sunset of Support for Windows XP
You've probably been getting the warnings popping up on your computer's desktop and in your Microsoft Security Essentials dialogs for a few weeks, and you've been seeing the headlines for longer than that. If you have Facebook friends in the IT industry, doubtlessly they've been sharing articles for the past six to twelve months.
By now, you've realized that your Windows XP computer didn't explode or stop working after the sunset of support, so what are the implications of continuing to use an unsupported operating system? For one, if you need to call Microsoft for support with any problems from this day forward, they're not going to help you. If you're like most people, you probably haven't called Microsoft in the past dozen years, so you won't miss the fact that they're not going to be there going forward. Rest assured that for as long as you want to continue using XP, consultancies like Maverick Solutions will be there to help solve any problems you may have.
Without Microsoft support, however, there will be no more security patches, feature updates, bug-fixes, or driver updates. Presumably after 12 years, Microsoft has probably found and resolved most of the bugs. For all the current hardware in existence, drivers have already been published if they're going to be. There will be no new Windows features, so today's Windows XP is the best it's ever going to get.
What about security? Hackers have been attacking technology for as long as people have been using technology, and nothing is going to change that. In the past, when Microsoft identified a vulnerability in Windows XP, they released a patch to correct it. The identification of vulnerabilities, however, is typically the result of analyzing exploitations of those vulnerabilities, after the fact. Just like medicine doesn't create vaccinations before diseases are discovered, so, too, security experts don't patch security holes until someone finds and exploits those holes. Even then, it takes time to develop solutions, and it takes time to distribute them to Windows users. If your computer was configured to automatically download and install Windows updates, it still might have taken a week or longer before your computer received and installed security patches. If your computer was configured otherwise, you might have never received such patches.
In fact, there are millions of bad guys attacking technology, and many fewer security experts defending us from them, so the good guys tend to apply a sort of triage when determining which holes to patch first. The ones which have the potential to cause the most widespread damage are remediated first, and the more-obscure or less-harmful ones are left on the back burner. Third-party anti-malware software has the same shortcomings, so relying solely on operating system patches and anti-malware software is never the best way to protect your systems.
The fact that Microsoft is stopping support for XP and moving their security experts to the later operating systems is actually a good sign for Windows XP users, in a way. Just as security experts try to make the most of their time by remediating the most-widespread, most-harmful malware, hackers economize on their time, too, by attacking the most common software. If less than one percent of today's computers still use 1980s Microsoft DOS, there's no vig in finding vulnerabilities; there would be terribly few places to exploit those vulnerabilities and it would take time to even locate those systems. Microsoft moving its security experts' mitigation efforts from Windows XP to the later operating systems is indicative of the increasing market-share of those operating systems, which will also attract more hackers away from Windows XP.
As a strategy, however, the best anti-malware idea continues to be effective, and continues to be free: don't use an administrator account as your everyday user account. The second-best strategy will also continue to be free and effective for a little longer: install and update Microsoft Security Essentials. Microsoft announced they will continue to offer it to Windows XP users through July. If you need help employing either of these strategies, seek out a local consultancy like ours to come set them up for you.
So if everything is going to keep working, why would anyone want to upgrade to a new operating system? The vast majority of technology consultants has been touting security concerns as the reason to upgrade, but we at Maverick Solutions believe that functionality and features are more likely to make you take the plunge.
Windows XP only supports Internet Explorer up to version 8, but later versions of the operating system support later versions of IE - it's up to version 11 already. You may have noticed that some of the more interactive Websites are already acting sluggish or buggy in IE8. Facebook crashes frequently, for example. Other than upgrading Windows, you could add a third-party browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, but bear in mind that every additional piece of software you install takes up room on your hard drive, which makes your machine operate somewhat less efficiently.
New hardware is less and less likely to be supported by Windows XP, so when you upgrade your multifunction printer or buy whatever technology of movie player comes out after Blue ray, you may not be able to install it at all, or even if it does install, you may not be able to access all of its features. New software will stop being developed for Windows XP, too, so at some point your annual tax-prep package of TurboTax or Tax Cut, for example, will not be available in an XP flavor. If you're a gamer, you're not reading this article - you've already upgraded years ago.

TAFAKKUR: Part 303
NANOTECHNOLOGY: Part 2
POTENTIAL BENEFITS
It does not take much of a leap of imagination disassemblers dismantling garbage to be recycled at the molecular level, and then giving it to assemblers who will use it to build atomically perfect engines. Stretching this vision a bit, you can imagine a Star Trek type replicator that could reassemble matter in the form of a juicy steak, given the correct blueprints and organization of these nanomachines.
A laboratory-scale "in vivo nanoscope" could be capable of providing atomic resolution, real-time movies of happenings inside living cells in intact living animals. This nanoscope, a hybrid of conventional technology and early (pre-assembler) nanotechnology, is an enormous leap in the ability of biologists to understand the workings of cells and develop medical therapies.
Some of the more prominent benefits of nanotechnology would be precision manufacturing, material reuse, and miniaturization. Medical applications are pharmaceutical creation, disease treatment, and nanomachine-assisted surgery. Environmental applications lie in toxin cleanup, recycling, and resource consumption reduction.
Nanomedicine deals with the comprehensive monitoring, control, construction, repair, defense, and improvement of all human biological systems by working at the molecular level with engineered nanodevices and nanostructures; the science and technology of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease and traumatic injury, as well as relieving pain and preserving and improving human health through the use of molecular tools and molecular knowledge of the human body; and the use of molecular machine systems to address medical problems and using molecular knowledge to maintain and improve human health at the molecular scale. Cosmetic nanosurgery carried out with simple nanomachines (no on-board computers, for example) could change hair color, cause hair to grow or not to grow in specific locations, keep teeth clean and skin smooth, and so on, all far more effectively than current treatments.
Looking somewhat further in the future at more radical modifications of the human body through nanotechnology, Edward Reifman describes dentistry with assembly-fabricated teeth, and even with the teeth and jaws being made of diamonds. "In the long term, we hope to be able to build small nanorobots which can search out and destroy cancerous tumors when they comprise just one or two cells" or "small drilling machines which dissolve clots."
Viruses, which are natural nanomachines, could be fought more effectively, as the body's own immune system has some handicaps: it tends to forget the shape of its enemies, cannot always successfully identify malignant cells, and suffers from a certain delay until the immune reaction is fully developed. Therefore, nanomachines could support the immune system. Nanomachines could rout bacteria, excise tumors, reconstruct damaged tissue, and even make a huge contribution to treating the process of aging.
Along with the obvious manufacturing benefits, there are many potential medical and environmental benefits. With nanomachines, we could better design and synthesize pharmaceuticals, directly treat such diseased cells as cancer, better monitor a patient's life signs, and make microscopic repairs in hard-to-operate-on bodily areas. With regard to the environment, we could use nanomachines to clean up toxins or oil spills, recycle garbage, and eliminate landfills, thus reducing our natural resource consumption.
POTENTIAL DANGERS
The downside to these benefits is the possibility of using assemblers and disassemblers to create weapons, to be used as weapons themselves, or the possibility that they may run wild and wreak havoc. Other less invasive but equally perilous uses would be in electronic surveillance.
However, with nanotechnology, armies could develop disassemblers to attack physical structures or biological organisms at the molecular level. A similar hazard would be if general-purpose disassemblers escaped into the environment and started disassembling every molecule they encountered, the so-called "gray goo scenario." Furthermore, if nanomachines were created to be self-replicating and, for some reason, had a problem with their limiting mechanism, they would multiply endlessly, like viruses.
Even without considering such extreme disaster scenarios, we can find plenty of potentially harmful uses for nanotechnology, such as the erosion of our freedom and privacy. For example, people could use molecular-sized microphones, cameras, and homing beacons to monitor and track others.
ETHICAL ISSUES AND ANALYSIS
Given the awesome potential dangers inherent in nanotechnology, we must analyze its potential consequences. Nanotechnology may never become as powerful and prolific as envisioned by its evangelists, but as with any potential near-horizon technology, we should formulate solutions to potential ethical issues before the technology is irreversibly adopted. We must examine the ethics of developing nanotechnology and create policies designed to assist its development while eliminating, or at least minimizing, its damaging effects.
NANOSENSORS(5)
A nanosensor is defined as a chemical or physical sensor constructed by using nanoscale components, usually microscopic or submicroscopic in size.
Nanotechnology brings science fiction into everyday life6 Nanotechnology's more immediate future lies in its application in such sensors as electronic "noses" that can detect, for example, the presence of individual protein molecules in a blood sample. This involves a fingernail-sized chip with thousands of sensors, each set to detect a specific substance. It might even be possible to make these noses so small that they could fit on a needle. Then, there would be no need for a blood test, for a finger prick would be sufficient to allow a full blood analysis.
Nanosensors also will be of great value in producing new medicines, for they can effectively find active substances. So far, it has been possible to build this type of sensor one by one; the difficulty lies in integrating perhaps 100,000 of them on one chip.
Aging can be delayed by repairing human cells one by one. Unlimited computer power can be obtained by improved microchip performance. Global warming can be reduced by cleaning greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere with nanoparticles, and pesticides could kill insects without harmful byproducts. Creating artificial muscles and sensors, as well as nanocoating for metal, could increase power plant efficiency and potentially save millions of dollars a year for electricity generators. For example, we now have self-washing windows that repel dirt, thanks to their nanostructured surface.
NANOFLUIDS (7)
On the medical front, researchers at Virginia Polytechnic Institute are developing magnetic nanofluids. They posit that magnetic particles attached to medicines, like those used in chemotherapy, can be concentrated on one part of the body by using external magnets on patients.

Remarks by President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Members of the Coronavirus Task Force in Press Conference whitehouse.gov ^ | 3/14/20 | White House
Rose Garden
3:30 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, everyone. Thank you. Thank you.
A beautiful day in the Rose Garden. Appreciate everybody being here. Today, I’d like to provide an update to the American people on several decisive new actions we’re taking in our very vigilant effort to combat and ultimately defeat the coronavirus.
We’ve been working very hard on this. We’ve made tremendous progress. When you compare what we’ve done to other areas of the world, it’s pretty incredible. A lot of that had to do with the early designation and the closing of the borders.
And, as you know, Europe was just designated as the hotspot right now, and we closed that border a while ago. So that was lucky or through talent or through luck. Call it whatever you want. But through a very collective action and shared sacrifice and national determination, we will overcome the threat of the virus.
I also announced Wednesday night, following the advice of our medical professionals who are doing a tremendous job — and we appreciate it very much — that we’re suspending the entry of foreign nationals who have been to Europe in the last 14 days from entering the United States. Citizens, permanent residents, and our families — and even the families returning from Europe, will be subject to extra screening as well self-isolation for a period of 14 days.
As the World Health Organization confirmed today, many of the things that — what we said were 100 percent correct, including our designation, before them, of Europe. Like our earlier, very aggressive actions with China, this measure will save countless lives. I appreciate a number of the folks behind me. A number of the people behind me said that that saved a lot of lives, that early designation.
But it is only the beginning of what we’re really doing, and now we’re in a different phase. We had some very old and obsolete rules that we had to live with. It worked under certain circumstances but not under mass circumstances. They were there for a long time; they were in place for a long time. And we’re breaking them down now. And they’re very usable for certain instances, but not for this.
To unleash the full power of the federal government in this effort, today I am officially declaring a national emergency. Two very big words. The action I am taking will open up access to up to $50 billion of very importantly — very important and a large amount of money for states and territories and localities in our shared fight against this disease.
In furtherance of the order, I’m urging every state to set up emergency operation centers effective immediately. You’re going to be hearing from some of the largest companies and greatest retailers and medical companies in the world. They’re standing right behind me and to the side of me.
I’m also asking every hospital in this country to activate its emergency preparedness plan so that they can meet the needs of Americans everywhere. The hospitals are very engaged. New York and various other places are also various engaged. I just spoke with Governor Cuomo; we had a very good conversation. And we’re working very strongly with many states, including New York.
The emergency orders I am issuing today will also confer broad new authority to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The Secretary of HHS will be able to immediately waive provisions of applicable laws and regulations to give doctors, hospital — all hospitals — and healthcare providers maximum flexibility to respond to the virus and care for patients.
This includes the following critical authorities:
The ability to waive laws to enable telehealth, a fairly new and incredible thing that’s happened in the — in the not-so-distant past. I tell you, what they’ve done with telehealth is incredible. It gives remote doctors’ visits and hospital check-ins. The power to waive certain federal license requirements so that doctors from other states can provide services and states with the greatest need. Number two. The ability to waive requirements that critical-access hospitals limit the number of beds to 25 and the length of stay to 96 hours. The ability to waive the requirements of a three-day hospital stay prior to admission to a nursing home. Big thing. The authority to waive rules that hinder hospitals’ ability to bring additional physicians on board or obtain needed office space. They can do as they want. They can do what they have to do. They know what they have to do. Now they don’t have any problem getting it done. The authority to waive rules that severely restrict where hospitals can care for patients within the hospital itself, ensuring that the emergency capacity can be quickly established.
We’ll remove or eliminate every obstacle necessary to deliver our people the care that they need and that they’re entitled to. No resource will be spared. Nothing whatsoever.
Ten days ago, I brought together the CEOs of commercial labs at the White House and directed them to immediately begin working on a solution to dramatically increase the availability of tests. Other countries have called us and worked with us, and they’re doing similar things or will be doing similar things.
As a result of that action, today we’re announcing a new partnership with private sector to vastly increase and accelerate our capacity to test for the coronavirus. We want to make sure that those who need a test can get a test very safely, quickly, and conveniently. But we don’t want people to take a test if — if we feel that they shouldn’t be doing it. And we don’t want everyone running out and taking. Only if you have certain symptoms.
Using federal emergency authorities, the FDA approved a new test for the virus. We did this within hours after receiving the application from Roche — a process that would normally take weeks. We therefore expect up to a half a million additional tests will be available early next week. We’ll be announcing locations probably on Sunday night.
I want to thank Roche, a great company, for their incredible work. I’d also like to thank Thermo Fisher. The FDA’s goal is to hopefully authorize their application within 24 hours — it’ll go very quickly; it’s going very quickly — which will bring, additionally, 1.4 million tests on board next week and 5 million within a month. I doubt we’ll need anywhere near that.
At the same time, we’ve been in discussions with pharmacies and retailers to make drive-thru tests available in the critical locations identified by public health professionals. The goal is for individuals to be able to drive up and be swabbed without having to leave your car.
I want to thank Google. Google is helping to develop a website. It’s going to be very quickly done, unlike websites of the past, to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location.
We have many, many locations behind us, by the way. We cover the — this country in large part. So the world, by the way — we’re not going to be talking about the world right now. But we cover very, very strongly our country. Stores in virtually every location.
Google has 1,700 engineers working on this right now. They’ve made tremendous progress. Our overriding goal is to stop the spread of the virus and to help all Americans who have been impacted by this.
Again, we don’t want everybody taking this test; it’s totally unnecessary. And this will pass. This will pass through, and we’re going to be even stronger for it. We’ve learned a lot. A tremendous amount has been learned.
I want to thank Deborah Birx, and I want to ask her maybe to come up and say a few words as to what’s happening. Dr. Birx is a highly respected person. I’ve gotten to know her very well over the last six days. And what we’ve done is rebuild something that was very old, very old-fashioned, somewhat obsolete. Certainly obsolete when it comes to the kind of numbers that we’re talking about.
Dr. Birx, please. Thank you, Deborah.
DR. BIRX: Thank you, Mr. President. It’s a pleasure to be here with all of you.
I think you know — at the beginning of this epidemic, HHS, through CDC, proactively developed an assay built on the existing flu surveillance system. That surveillance system was then converted to diagnostic system.
But last Tuesday, seeing the spread of the virus around the globe, the President realized that our current approach to testing was inadequate to need — to meet the needs of the American public. He asked for an entire overhaul of the testing approach. He immediately called the private sector laboratories to the White House, as noted, and charged them with developing a high-throughput quality platform that can meet the needs of the American public.
We are grateful to LabCorp and Quest for taking up the charge immediately after the meeting and within 72 hours bringing additional testing access, particularly to the outbreak areas of Washington State and California, and now across the country.
We are also very grateful to the universities and large hospital systems that took up the charge to develop their own quality tests made available by new FDA guidance. This has resulted in expanded testing across New York, California, Washington, Colorado, and you see sometimes those drive-thru options that have been made available through these high-throughput options.
Following the meeting last week, major commercial laboratory equipment and diagnostic companies took immediate action to adopt and develop new testing systems. Last night, the initial company, Roche, received FDA approval, moving from request to development to approval in record time.
This innovative approach centered fully on unleashing the power of the private sector, focusing on providing convenient testing to hundreds of thousands of Americans within short turnaround times. In less than two weeks together, we have developed a solution that we believe will meet the future needs — testing needs of Americans.
I understand how difficult this has been. I was part of the HIV/AIDS response in the ‘80s. We knew, from diag- — from first finding cases in 1981, it took us to almost 1985 to have a test. It took us another 11 years to have effective therapy. It is because of the lessons learned from that that we were able to mobilize and bring those individuals that were key to the HIV response to this response.
I understand that a lot of this behind-the-scenes action over the last couple of weeks was invisible to the press and the American people. But this intense effort has not only resulted in innovative solutions, but an automated high-throughput system, bringing the availability of these quality coronaviral testing to the American people at unprecedented speed.
Finally, I want you to know: In South Korea, they did have large number of tests available over the last several weeks. Their positivity rate is between 3 and 4 percent. With LabCorp and Quest expanded testing, their positivity rate is between 1 and 2 percent.
So we want to also announce this new approach to testing, which will start in the screening website up here, facilitated by Google, where clients and patients and people that have interest can go, fill out a screening questionnaire — move down for symptoms or risk factors, yes. They would move down this and be told where the drive-thru options would be for them to receive this test. The labs will then move to the high-throughput automated machines to be able to provide results in 24 to 36 hours.
That is the intent of this approach. We have seen it work just in our own United States, and we want to bring this across the continent.
Thank you very much.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Deborah. Great.
I’d like to maybe have Tony — do you want to come up? You’ve become a — I think everybody out here knows you pretty well. But Tony has been doing a tremendous job working long, long hours. And you’ve seen a lot happen, but this has been — it’s been a great experience, and working with you has been terrific.
Tony, please.
DR. FAUCI: Thank you very much, Mr. President. This is an example of — another example of what I’ve been referring to in my discussions with many of you in the audience as a proactive, leaning-forward, aggressive, trying to stay ahead of the curve.
And what you’re seeing now with this order is that we’re going to be able to remove the constraints so that people at the state and the local level — the individual physician all the way up through the federal government — will have as many constraints as possible removed for them to do everything they possibly can so that we can implement the things that we’ve been talking about — the containment, the mitigation — so that, as I’ve said many times, that curve that I referred to that goes up, we don’t want to have that curve. We want to suppress it down to that small mound.
And I think what we’ve done today is something that is going to be a very important element in having us be successful in doing that.
We still have a long way to go. There will be many more cases, but we’ll take care of that. And ultimately, as the President said, this will end. But what’s going on here today is going to help it to end sooner than it would have.
Thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Tony.
If I could, some of these folks we know; they’re celebrities in their own right. They’re the biggest business people, the greatest retailers anywhere in the world. And one of them is Doug McMillon from Walmart. And I’d like to have Doug, if you would, say a few words, wherever you may be.
Doug, please.
MR. MCMILLON: When we got the call yesterday from the White House, we were eager to do our part to help serve the country. And given what we’re facing, that’s certainly important to do. We should all be doing that.
So we’ve been asked to make portions of our parking lot available in select locations in the beginning, and scaling over time as supply increases, so that people can experience the drive-thru experience that the President described.
We’ll stay involved and do everything we can from a supply-chain point of view to be of assistance.
Thank you, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Doug. Appreciate it very much.
I’ll just stay right over here. And, Richard, if you could come up, please. Richard, please. Walgreens. Thank you.
MR. ASHWORTH: Thank you, Mr. President. And similar to Doug and Walmart, we’re happy to stand in here and help in communities all across America. Because a lot of times, when we have natural disasters, our stores are a beacon in the community, and this situation is no different.
So we look forward to partnering with the CDC, the administration, HHS, and the task force, and specifically to the Vice President, who’s doing such a fantastic job. We’re ready to engage and help.
Thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Great job. Thank you very much.
Brian Cornell, Target. Thank you, Brian. Thank you. Please.
MR. CORNELL: Well, Mr. President, thank you for inviting us here today, along with our colleagues from Walmart and Walgreens and our partners at CVS. Normally, you’d view us as competitors, but today we’re focused on a common competitor, and that’s defeating the spread of the coronavirus. And we look forward to working with the administration to do our fair share to alleviate this growing threat.
So, thank you for including us today. In the near term, we’re all committed to making sure we’re keeping our stores open to serve the American consumer who is rapidly stocking up on household essentials, key food and beverage items that they need during this time; making sure we run safe stores; and creating an environment that’s safe for our team members, making sure that they feel supported during this very critical time.
So thank you for including us.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Great job.
Is Tom here? Tom Polen. Tom? Tom Polen. Please.
MR. POLEN: Thank you, Mr. President. As CEO of Becton Dickinson, we’re one of the leading providers of medical devices as well as collection products for testing of coronavirus. We’re ramping up our manufacturing capacity to ensure that the right collection devices and testing equipment are ready to address this issue. Thank you, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Tom. Great job you’ve done.
Stephen Rusckowski, Quest Diagnostics. Please. Great job. Thank you very much.
MR. RUSCKOWKI: Thank you very much. Thank you, Mr. President.
So, as mentioned, we were called, with the leadership of the Vice President, last week to come together as an industry. And we took advantage of that opportunity to work with the FDA, to work with the Center for Disease Control. And we are up and running with tests in a number of our facilities.
As the President mentioned, we now have capabilities from Roche diagnostics that we will bring into our facilities this weekend. And I know myself and also my colleague at LabCorp will be doing the same, so the capacity available to the American public to support this action with consumers will be considerably increased in the next few weeks.
Thank you, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
And Matt Sause, please, of Roche. Matt? Thank you, Matt.
MR. SAUSE: Thank you, Mr. President. So, from Roche, we want to thank the FDA for their rapid approval of our coronavirus test. We really appreciate the partnership with the CDC and the FDA to get that to market as fast as possible because it’s critical for us to make that available to help patients in need, and working with laboratories to get it up and going in the near future, which will bring hundreds of thousands of tests available to patients in need in the United States. So, thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: And you can do it. You can do it. A great company.
David Pierre of Signify — Signify Health. Please. Thanks, David.
MR. PIERRE: Thank you, Mr. President. We are the largest housecall provider in the U.S., and we go to the homes of the most vulnerable elderly. And through our network and our logistics engine, we stand ready to help and provide our clinicians to be where they’re needed, whether they’re in retail clinics or in the home. And we’re here to assist.
Thank you very much.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. And we’ll be changing a lot of the rules, regulations for future, should this happen in the future, which we hope it never does. But it will, I guess — somewhere out there. There are some bad ones over the years, and I guess that’ll continue to an extent, but we hope it never happens. But we’re going to be changing a lot of the old rules and specifications and regulations.
Adam Schechter, who has really been of tremendous help. LabCorp. Please. Adam?
MR. SCHECHTER: Thank you, Mr. President. At LabCorp, we’re working every second of every day to increase the number of tests that we can run. We’re working with academic medical centers, with our colleagues at Quest, with other hospital and other laboratories to ensure that we do everything we can to increase the testing as we move forward.
And I can tell you we understand how important the testing is, and we are committed to doing everything possible.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Great job. Thank you.
Thomas Moriarty, CVS. We all know CVS. Thank you.
MR. MORIARTY: Thank you, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, Thomas.
MR. MORIARTY: Thank you, Mr. President. We have been focused, since the start, of making sure our patients and the customers we serve have the information they need and the safety they need as well. We are committed to working with the administration and local public health officials to make this work as well. And thank you, sir, for the honor.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Thank you, Thomas. Thanks. Great job.
And Bruce Greenstein, LHC Group. Tremendously talented people. Thank you very much.
MR. GREENSTEIN: Mr. President, thank you for the honor of being here. And the home health industry has been treating patients and seniors in the safety and comfort of their own home for decades. We’re very proud to be part of the equation for testing in their own home. For Americans that can’t get to a test site or live in rural areas far away from a retail establishment, we’re here to help and to partner with our hospitals and physicians, as well as the people we have here today that will be doing testing around the country. Thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Fantastic.
(Mr. Greenstein gives the President an elbow bump.)
MR. GREENSTEIN: Oh, we’ll practice that.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay, I like that. That’s good.
We’re also announcing the following emergency executive actions today:
To help our students and their families, I’ve waived interest on all student loans held by federal government agencies, and that will be until further notice. That’s a big thing for a lot of students that are left in the middle right now. Many of those schools have been closed.
Based on the price of oil, I’ve also instructed the Secretary of Energy to purchase, at a very good price, large quantities of crude oil for storage in the U.S. Strategic Reserve. We’re going to fill it right up to the top, saving the American taxpayer billions and billions of dollars, helping our oil industry and making us even further toward that wonderful goal — which we’ve achieved, which nobody thought was possible — of energy independence. It puts us in a position that’s very strong, and we’re buying it at the right price. And that’s something that would have not even been possible a week ago. The price of oil went down quite a bit, so we’re going to fill it up. This is a good time to fill it up.
I’d like to ask Mike Pence to say a few words, please. VP.
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Thank you, Mr. President. It is — this day should be an inspiration to every American, because thanks to your leadership from early on, not only are we bringing a whole-of-government approach to confronting the coronavirus, we’re bringing an all-of-America approach.
Mr. President, from early on, you took decisive action. You suspended all travel from China. You created travel advisories — South Korea and Italy. We screened all travelers from all airports in both of those countries. And on the unanimous recommendation of your health experts, you, at midnight tonight, will effectively suspend all travel from Europe. And Americans that are returning will be screened and asked to voluntarily participate in a 14-day quarantine.
Throughout this process, Mr. President, you’ve put the health of America first, but you brought the best of America to address it. And it’s not just at the federal level. As you said, Mr. President, we’ve been working with states across the country. We issued broad guidelines from CDC for every American. But this week, at your direction, we tailored specific recommendations from CDC for New York, Washington State, California, Massachusetts, and Florida.
And we’ve been in continuous contact, as you said, with governors around the country. And, Mr. President, you have forged a seamless partnership with every state and every territory in this country to put the health of our nation first.
But today, I trust that people around the country that are looking on at this extraordinary public and private partnership to address the issue of testing with particular inspiration. After you tapped me to lead the White House Corona Task Force, Mr. President, you said this is all hands on deck, and you directed us to immediately reach out to the American business sector commercial labs to meet what we knew then would be the need for testing across the spectrum. And today, with this historic public-private partnership, we have laid the foundation to meet that need.
And for Americans looking on, by this Sunday evening, we’ll be able to give specific guidance on a — on when the website will be available. You can go to the website, as the President said. You’ll type in your symptoms and be given direction whether or not a test is indicated.
And then, at the same website, you’ll be directed to one of these incredible companies that are going to give a little bit of their parking lot so that people can come by and do a drive-by test.
Mr. President, I want to join you in thanking Walmart and CVS and Target and Walgreen. These are companies that are synonymous with communities large and small, where people come together. And now they’re going to come together to meet the needs of the American public.
These commercial laboratories — LabCorp and Quest and Roche — have just done an incredible job stepping forward and are going to literally make — literally make hundreds and thousands of tests available and being processed with results to patients in the very near future. But it’s all a result of you tasking us with bringing together not just government resources — which all state labs can now test across the country; CDC is testing — but you said, Mr. President, that we wanted to bring all the resources of the country together, and that’s what this partnership really means.
You know, the truth is that we have coronavirus cases now in 46 American states. And while the risk of serious illness of the coronavirus remains low, we want to encourage every American to practice common sense, practice good hygiene, go to the CDC’s website to see what the guidance is for your community or for the American people broadly.
And as the President has said, it’s especially important now that we look at senior citizens with chronic underlying health conditions. Last week, the President directed the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services to raise the standards at our nursing homes, increase inspections at our nursing homes. And today, we’re offering very specific guidance, which Seema Verma will articulate, about visitations at nursing homes.
It’s important to remember that they were there for us when we were growing up, Mr. President. They helped us with our homework. They tucked us in at night. They cheered us on as we pursued educations, cheered us on in our careers. And now it’s time for us to be there with them and to recognize that seniors with chronic health conditions are the most vulnerable, and Americans can make a difference. So wash your hands, use common sense, look after the most vulnerable.
And, Mr. President, I know I join you in saying that every American should be proud of this incredible public-private partnership that’s going to speeding access of testing to millions of Americans in the weeks ahead.
And together, as you’ve said many times, together we’ll get through this. Together, we’ll put the health of America first.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, Mike. Thank you very much.
Seema. Where is Seema? I’d like you to maybe take that a step further, please, on nursing homes. Thanks.
ADMINISTRATOR VERMA: Thank you. Well, thank you to the President for the declaration. It allows my agency, CMS — that runs Medicare and Medicaid and has oversight of all of the nation’s healthcare facilities — to suspend regulations that can get in the way of treating patients during this time.
These temporary national blanket waivers are reserved for the rarest of circumstances, and they represent a massive mobilization of our country’s resources to combat this terrible virus. And the flexibilities we are offering will be a God-send to the providers, clinicians, and facilities on the frontlines of this fight.
And later, CMS is going to be issuing guidance directing nursing homes to temporarily restrict all visitors and non-essential personnel, with a few exceptions such as end-of-life situations.
We fully appreciate that this measure represents a severe trial for residents of nursing homes and those who love them. But we are doing what we must to protect our vulnerable elderly. Thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, Seema.
As I said in my address to the nation the other night, all Americans have a role to play in defeating this virus. Our most effective weapon right now is to limit the damage to our people and our country, and slow the spread of the virus itself.
The choice we make, the precautions we put into place are critical to overcoming the virus, reducing its spread and shortening the duration of the pandemic — which is what it is.
The CDC has published guidelines on the Coronavirus.gov to enable — it’s Coronavirus.gov, and it’s very — very heavily used right now, I will say — to enable every American to respond to this epidemic and to protect themselves, their families, and their communities, while the risks to young and healthy Americans remains very low. We’ve learned a lot about this over the last two weeks. Anyone can be a carrier for the virus and risk transmission to older Americans and those with underlying health conditions and those who are most at risk. They have not done very well. Older Americans who are — especially, if they have a health problem, they have not done well.
We must take all precautions and be responsible for the actions that we take and that we see other people take. We want to prevent the spread and transmission of the disease.
It’s incredible what’s — sports — what’s happening with the sporting world, where so many of the great sports that we’ve gotten so used to at this time of the year, they’re not going to be meeting. And they’ve done a great service actually. But that — would be another way that it could be — problems could be caused.
But this is why I outlined on Wednesday night my admiss- — administration’s — the fact that we’ve issued a requirement suspending all medically unnecessary visits to various places, but in particular, nursing homes. We should all be working off the same playbook when it comes to protecting Americans. We have to.
We need to be consistent in adopting measures to limit the spread of the virus. The virus is the same, whether it’s spreading in cities, towns, or rural communities. The tools and tactics for attacking it are similar no matter where you go. No matter where you go. You have some hotspots throughout the world right now that people would have never thought possible, and they’re being very seriously affected.
Key among these efforts are breaking chains of transmission between people. These measures have been adopted by many companies, universities, and schools. And we want to protect the safety and the health of their employees and their students. I encourage everyone to follow the guidelines we’ve issued by CDC and these commonsense measures. A lot of it is common sense.
For the areas where the virus is spreading, the CDC is advising communities to postpone large gatherings, postpone assemblies, social functions, and sporting events; stagger recess and lunch for schools that aren’t canceled; limit in-person meetings; increase scheduled cleanings; and cancel work-sponsored travel — among numerous other steps that can be taken.
Americans are the strongest and most resilient people on Earth, and in the coming weeks, we will all have to make changes and sacrifices, but these short-term sacrifices will produce long-term gain.
And again, I’ve said we’re learning a lot for the future and future problems like this, or worse. Or worse. It could get worse. The next eight weeks are critical. We can learn — and we will turn a corner on this virus.
Some of the doctors say it will wash through, it will flow through. Interesting terms and very accurate. I think you’re going to find in a number of weeks it’s going to be a very accurate term.
In times of hardship, the true character of America always shines through. We live in the company of the greatest heroes and the most inspiring citizens anywhere in the world. We want to take care of our people. We want to draw on the strength of our history, draw on the strength of our people, and we will get through this all together. We will just get through it. So much progress has already been made.
And, frankly, the numbers — because of steps that have been taken — are at a level that a lot of people are surprised, especially when you compare them with other places with far smaller populations.
The spirit and the will of our nation is unbreakable. We will defeat this threat. When America is tested, America rises to the occasion.
And to those families and citizens who are worried and concerned for themselves and their loved ones, I want you to know that your federal government will unleash every authority, resource, and tool at its disposal to safeguard the lives and health of our people.
So we’re with you every step of the way. No nation is more prepared or more equipped to face down this crisis. As you know, we are rated number one in the world.
We’re also helping other nations — many other nations; we’re helping them a lot. And they’re doing okay, in some cases. In some cases, they’re not doing well at all. But we’re working with a lot of groups of people and a lot of other nations.
With faith and heart and hope and love and determination, we will succeed. We will prevail. We will be very, very successful. And we’ll learn for the future.
Thank you all very much. If you have any questions, we can take some.
Go ahead, John. Please. And if you’d like to ask some of the folks up here, it would be fine. Please.
Q Sure. Mr. President, where are you with the House bill? Yesterday, we talked to you in the Oval Office; you were opposed to it. What has happened since then? And what’s the holdup on that?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, we just don’t think they’re giving enough. We don’t think the Democrats are giving enough. We’re negotiating. We thought we had something, but all of a sudden they didn’t agree to certain things that they agreed to. So we could have something, but we don’t think they’re giving enough. They’re not — they’re not doing what’s right for the country.
Q And if I could ask Dr. Fauci —
Q (Inaudible.)
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead, please.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. You just mentioned waiving interest for student loans.
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah.
Q You talked about buying oil from the — from the SPR, or adding to the SPR. What other specific targeted measures is your administration thinking about taking? The Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin, said today that you’re just in the “second inning” of things that you might be undergoing.
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah, well, that’s true. And we are looking at many different things, as you know. You know some of them — they’ve been written about very widely. But we’re going to be releasing a paper in about two hours stating quite a few other steps. Very important ones.
Q Mr. President —
Please, go ahead.
Q Like what, sir, if you wouldn’t mind?
THE PRESIDENT: Please, go ahead.
Q Thank you so much, Mr. President. I want to — I want to know if you are in contact with the Brazilian President, Bolsonaro, after a member of his delegation who was with you Saturday was tested positive.
And also Senat- — I want to ask another question, if you’ll let me. Senator Lindsey Graham and also Senator Scott — Rick Scott — are self-isolating. Are you planning to take any kind of precautionary measure to protect you and also your staff who was there with him?
THE PRESIDENT: No, we have no symptoms whatsoever. And we have — we had a great meeting with the President of Brazil, Bolsonaro. Great guy. Very — a very tremendous — he’s done — he’s doing a fantastic job for Brazil.
And, as you know, he tested negative — meaning, nothing wrong — this morning. And we got that word, too. Because we did have dinner with him; we were sitting next to each other for a long period of time.
Q But are you in contact with him over the coronavirus crisis?
THE PRESIDENT: No, we — we have. We’re talking about it, country to country, but we did discuss if he had a problem. It was reported that he may have it, and he doesn’t, fortunately.
Q Thank you so much, Mr. President. Dr. Fauci said earlier this week that the lag in testing was, in fact, “a failing.” Do you take responsibility for that?
And when can you guarantee that every single American who needs a test will be able to have a test? What’s the date of that?
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah, no, I don’t take responsibility at all, because we were given a — a set of circumstances and we were given rules, regulations, and specifications from a different time. It wasn’t meant for this kind of an event with the kind of numbers that we’re talking about. And what we’ve done is redesigned it very quickly with the help of the people behind me. And we’re now in very, very strong shape.
I think we’ll be announcing, as I said, Sunday night, and this will start very quickly. And we — we’ll have — we’ll have the ability to do in the millions over a very, very quick period of time. So, no.
And what we have done — and we are going to be leaving a very indelible print for the future, in case something like this happens again. But it was a — and that’s not the fault of anybody. And, frankly, the old system worked very well for smaller numbers — much smaller numbers — but not for these kind of numbers.
Tony, maybe you’d like to say something?
Q By Sunday night, will you have —
THE PRESIDENT: Tony, please.
Q Yes, please. By Sunday night, will every American be able to get a test?
DR. FAUCI: So, just to reiterate what I said to many of you multiple times: It’s (inaudible) of a system. This system was not designed — for what it was designed for, it worked very well. The CDC designed a good system.
If you want to get the kind of blanket testing and availability that anybody can get it or you could even do surveillance to find out what the penetrance is, you have to embrace the private sector. And this is exactly what you’re seeing, because you can’t do it without it.
So when I said that, I meant the system was not designed for what we need. Now, looking forward, the system will take care of it.
Q And, Mr. President, with respect, you’ve been —
THE PRESIDENT: And, interestingly, if you go back — please — if you go back to the swine flu, it was nothing like this. They didn’t do testing like this. And actually, they lost approximately 14,000 people. And they didn’t do the testing. They started thinking about testing when it was far too late.
What we’ve done — and one of the reasons I think people are respecting what we’ve done: We’ve done it very early. We’ve gotten it very early. And we’ve also kept a lot of people out.
Q Mr. President —
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, please. Go ahead. Please.
Q Mr. President, the last administration said that they had tested a million people at this point. You’ve been —
THE PRESIDENT: Well, ask them how they —
Q — President for three years.
THE PRESIDENT: — did with the swine flu. It was a disaster.
Q But with respect, you’ve been President for three years —
THE PRESIDENT: Next, please. Next, please.
Q — and Wuhan was suffering —
THE PRESIDENT: They had a very big failure with swine flu. A very big failure.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. I want to ask you about the European travel ban that goes into effect at —
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah.
Q — midnight tonight and the exemption that you’ve offered to the UK. There are 17 countries that are in the so-called “Schengen zone” that have fewer coronavirus cases than the UK. And just in the past 24 hours, the UK has added 208 coronavirus cases to their total. Why do they, Mr. President, deserve an exemption? And would you consider adding them to this travel ban list?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, that was recommended to me by a group of professionals, and we are looking at it based on the new numbers that are coming out. And we may have to include them in the list of countries that we will, you could say, ban — or whatever — it is during this period of time.
But, yeah, their numbers have gone up fairly precipitously over the last 24 hours, so we may be adding that, and we may be adding a couple of others. And we may, frankly, start thinking about taking some off.
Go ahead.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. I’m a correspondent with Hong Kong Phoenix TV. You have been mentioned — you have mentioned that the number in China has been decreasing and China has made tremendous progress in the past two weeks.
THE PRESIDENT: It’s true.
Q I’m wondering how much confidence does this give you to control the virus in the United States. And do you see the data China has been sharing with the United States has been helpful?
THE PRESIDENT: I think it has been helpful. We’ve been working very much with China. I’ve spoken, as you know, with President Xi. They went through hell, and their numbers are starting to look very good. They’re really — they’re really looking very good. We’re very happy about that. We are sharing data, yes. In fact, we’re sharing quite a bit of data, including the fact that some of our pharmaceutical companies are working over there right now with large groups of people.
Yeah, go ahead. Please.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. You spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau yesterday.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, I did.
Q Did you discuss the potential closing of the border between Canada and the U.S.? And, by extension, are you considering ways to salvage the $2 billion daily trade between the two countries?
THE PRESIDENT: So we didn’t discuss the border. We’ve had a very good relationship. Just about finished with the USMCA, as you know. He called — actually, he called me to tell me that. I think that was the primary reason for the call.
At the time, his wife had not been diagnosed. And she’s a lovely lady — wonderful lady, great lady. And since then, I’ve heard — read that the result was that she has it. And I was a little surprised. I think he was surprised also. We did discuss it prior to. She’s going to be fine, but he thought that she would not, most likely, have the virus. Unfortunately, she does.
But we didn’t discuss the border yesterday, no.
Go ahead, please.
If you have any questions for these great geniuses up here, you should — even a business question related to what we’re talking about.
Q Mr. President, Ross Palombo from ABC News Miami. As a relatively new Floridian, what is your message today to the cruise line industry and the travel industry that Florida depends upon? And since Senator Rick Scott and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giménez have the same exposure as you and they are self-isolating, what’s your message to them? That they shouldn’t be?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I don’t know that I had exposure, but I don’t have any of the symptoms. And we do have a White House doctor and, I should say, many White House doctors, frankly. And I asked them that same question, and they said, “You don’t have any symptoms whatsoever.” And we don’t want people without symptoms to go and do the test. The test is not insignificant.
As far as the cruise line business, we’re with them all the way. It’s a great business. It’s a great U.S. business, frankly. And I know how important they are to the country. That includes airlines. But the cruise line business, obviously, was hit very hard.
We had a tremendous success out in Oakland where we moved it. Vice President Pence did a fantastic job with that. We worked with UK. We worked with Canada. They took their people back. And Canada has approximately 600 people; UK, likewise, took a large number of people back to the United Kingdom.
And we have people quarantined. It was a big operation, and it worked out really — you don’t hear about it anymore. It worked out really well.
Mike, you may even want to say something about that because that was really done properly.
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you, Mr. President. And that program with the Grand Princess, the ship, is continuing to be administered in the highest standards, orderly way, as the President directed. And Americans that needed treatment have received them.
I spoke to the governor of Iowa today, and some of those who now have been cleared are able, in proper supervision, to be returning to Iowa, where they’re making arrangements for them to do that. Others in Texas, others in Georgia. Again, it’s another example of the extraordinary cooperation of Governor Abbott, Governor Gavin Newsom, Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia.
But to add to that, the President directed me last Saturday to travel down to Miami. We met with all the leaders of the cruise line industry. Several cruise lines have announced a 60-day pause in operations. Our Department of Homeland Security has praised them for doing that because of the unique health challenges particularly presented to seniors with underlying conditions.
We have a proposal from the cruise line industry, but they’re currently considering what other steps that they might take, perhaps even similar to what those other lines have taken. We’re anticipating some response on that in the next 24 hours.
But as the President said, the American people cherish our cruise line industry, the men and women who work on the ships, the men and women who work on the shore, all the economies that are so benefitted by a vibrant cruise line industry.
And what the President has directed us to do is, whether there — whether there is a pause in the moment, as some cruise lines are doing, and as we all continue to discuss, we want to work with the cruise line industry to ensure that when we come through this, that cruise lines and the medical services that are available, and for the passengers and all of the crew, that cruise lines are safer than ever before and can prosper for many years to come.
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead, please.
Q This question is for Drs. Fauci and Birk [sic] — Birx. Dr. Fauci, based on what you currently know, what is the trajectory for when this outbreak will peak? How long will the American people have to remain on this emergency footing?
And for Dr. Birx, as the administration tries to get its arms around this test kit shortage issue, the next glaring need could be respirators and related hospital equipment. So what is the administration doing right now to ramp up production of respirators and that kind of equipment should this outbreak persist?
DR. FAUCI: So, when you have an outbreak like this, particularly if you’re trying to interfere with it, it’s really impossible to predict the time element of when it’s going to peak and when it’s naturally going to go down.
So if you look at the situation where countries really did not get to the point of trying to contain and mitigate very well, you see a peak over several weeks and then down again over other several weeks. What we’re trying to do with the efforts that we’re doing is to blunt that peak.
And I mentioned it many times, and I think it’s important and appropriate for me to mention it again because it answers your question: When you talk about preventing infections from without in — which is the kind of travel restrictions we’re talking about — then how do you handle what you already have in your country? You continue some sort of containment, but you also do mitigation and you try to proportion it to the areas where there are the most infections.
The success of that and how much you make this turn into this is going to give you the amount of time. If we’re successful, it’ll be less. If we’re not successful, it’s going to be more. But these kind of things generally run out in a few months. Hopefully, we’ll make it several weeks — eight, nine, whatever weeks. But I can’t give you a number because it depends on how successful we are.
DR. BIRX: Great, thank you. It’s a great question, and Dr. Fauci and I have worked together a very long time and continue. It’s a privilege to work with him every day.
So I think you can learn very — and I appreciate there were some graphics done by some of the reporting over the last several days. If you align the data from China with the data with South Korea, you can start to see almost a complete overlay of that data. And so that’s what we’re tracking very closely, as well as Italy. But you have an excellent question.
I just want to make one note: In South Korea, I want to repeat, only 4 percent of the tests were positive. That means 96 percent of the people had a different respiratory disease because we’re in the middle of flu season, cold season, and all of the other respiratory diseases that we get every day.
In LabCorp and Quest’s early data, they’re running about 1 to 2 percent positive. That means that we have a lot more other respiratory disease out there besides the coronavirus. And that’s why the screening is critical. But even with the screening, we’re going to low — run what we think are very low rates.
Needless to say, though, we’re taking it extraordinarily seriously to plan for what could come. Not what Dr. Fauci talked about — blunting the curve — that makes it much less high need at that peak of the curve that we’re all planning for.
So we’re in full inventory of all of our assets by the President unlocking and this emergency order, and the Secretary of HHS’s ability — it unlocks all of those stockpiles, those needs: what the VA has, what the DOD has, what the National Guard has, and what every hospital has.
And the hospital emergency preparedness plan allows them to defer elective issues to keep those hospital beds open for those who might need it. So we’re in full planning mode for each of those things.
THE PRESIDENT: And I might add that we’re in the process — and, in some cases, have already done it — ordered a large number of respirators, just in case. We hope we don’t need them, but we’ve ordered a large number.
Yeah. Go ahead, please.
Q Thank you very much, Mr. President. In your speech to the nation, you mentioned the situation in China and South Korea have improved, and you’re thinking about remove the restrictions, also the warning —
THE PRESIDENT: Right.
Q — in place right now. When can we expect that announcement? And how do you see the overall progress that Asian countries made?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, some are making progress; some are not, as you know. But some are making progress. And as they make progress, as they get down to the number that we all think is right — that they know is right, we know is right — we’ll be opening it up. And some are really moving along rapidly. We hope to be able to open things up as quickly as possible.
Go ahead, please. Go ahead.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. I’d like to ask Secretary Azar and Dr. Fauzi [sic] just how —
THE PRESIDENT: That was (inaudible). (Laughs.)
Q Dr. Fauci. Okay?
THE PRESIDENT: Right. Better.
Q All right.
THE PRESIDENT: Better. Not 100 percent, but 90 percent.
Q Right.
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead.
Q This affects the elderly, primarily. And in that sense, it’s an unusual disease. Is any specific research being done as to why it affects our senior citizens more than others?
DR. FAUCI: So, I don’t mean to diminish your question, but we already know why it would affect senior citizens more, because when you talk about anything that requires a robust immune system — as you get older, your immune system is not as potent as it is when you were young. And that’s the reason why, when you talk about even influenza, which we have extraordinary experience with over decades and decades, the people who are very vulnerable are the elderly and those with underlying conditions.
The same thing holds true for a variety of other disease. Why cancer is more prevalent in some — in mostly in older individuals — because the immune system that screens for it is less robust. So it really is something that is kind of well-known over a lot of studies.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. OAN, please. OAN.
Q Mr. President, the Chinese officials are expressing some tones of discontent with how — where the source of this virus has come from, and they’re spinning some odd narratives. What are your response to the Chinese officials who are doing that? And have they signaled any kind of resistance to upcoming trade talks in response to how we’re handling this virus?
THE PRESIDENT: No, we have our deal with China. They’re going to be buying $250 billion worth of goods and $50 billion from our farmers. And that’s a great deal for our country; it’s about time somebody did that. And, frankly, phase two, we’ll start negotiating.
I did read one article, but I don’t think that article was representative — certainly not of my conversations with President Xi — and they know where it came from. We all know where it came from.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. Yamiche Alcindor from PBS NewsHour.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes.
Q My first question is: You said that you don’t take responsibility, but you did disband the White House pandemic office, and the officials that were working in that office left this administration abruptly. So what responsibility do you take to that? And the officials that worked in that office said that you — that the White House lost valuable time because that office was disbanded. What do you make of that?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I just think it’s a nasty question because what we’ve done is — and Tony has said numerous times that we’ve saved thousands of lives because of the quick closing. And when you say “me,” I didn’t do it. We have a group of people I could —
Q It’s your administration.
THE PRESIDENT: I could ask perhaps — my administration — but I could perhaps ask Tony about that because I don’t know anything about it. I mean, you say — you say we did that. I don’t know anything about it.
Q You don’t know about the —
THE PRESIDENT: We’re spending — I don’t know. It’s the —
Q — about the reorganization that happened at the National Security Council?
THE PRESIDENT: It’s the — it’s the administration. Perhaps they do that. You know, people let people go. You used to be with a different newspaper than you are now. You know, things like that happen.
Q But this was a — this was an org- —
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. Please go ahead.
Q This was an organization at the National Security Council.
THE PRESIDENT: We’re doing a great job. Let me tell you, these professionals behind me and the — these great, incredible doctors and business people — the best in the world. And I can say that. Whether it’s retailers or labs, or anything you want to say, these are the best of the world. We’re doing a great job.
We have 40 people right now. Forty. Compare that with other countries that have many, many times that amount. And one of the reasons we have 40 and others have — and, again, that number is going up, just so you understand. And a number of cases, which are very small, relatively speaking — it’s going up. But we’ve done a great job because we acted quickly. We acted early. And there’s nothing we could have done that was better than closing our borders to highly infected areas.
Please, go ahead.
Q Thank you, Mr. President. Vanessa Jaklitsch for NTN24 for Latin America countries —
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, sure.
Q — and also for Spain, La Razón and Antena 3. I would like to ask you two very brief questions. One: For how long we’re going to have the emergency — I mean, the national emergency? And —
THE PRESIDENT: I hope not long, but it’s there now and it gives tremendous powers for things that we need. Tremendous power, actually. And the Stafford Act and various other things that we’re involved with and have studied and memorized in so many different ways and forms, it gives the kind of power that we need to get rid of this virus.
And we’re going to do it very quickly. And I hope we won’t need it very long, but whatever it takes.
Q So, for now, we still don’t know for how long? And I — something very important I wanted to ask you is like, how do you think — do you really think it’s essential coordinating with other countries, and learning from the lessons that — they already suffer the same situation — countries —
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah.
Q — of course, like China and South Korea, but now recently —
THE PRESIDENT: Sure.
Q — Italy and Spain. And how —
THE PRESIDENT: Well, Italy is having a —
Q — is that coordination done? Thank you so much, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: Italy is having a very — yeah — we’re in touch with Italy and, you know, it’s a — it’s a country that we love. We have tremendous — millions and millions of people, originally — origins from Italy. And we’re working with them. They’re in a very — they’re in, probably, relatively speaking, the toughest position of all.
We’re in touch with everybody. We’re in touch with — when I say “everybody,” we’re in touch with many of the countries that you know about, that you’re writing about. And they’re calling us asking for advice. They’re asking for the advice of the people behind me.
Italy has got a tough situation, but they’re — they’re really — they have really clamped down and I think they’re going to see some very good results. It’s tough. What they did — they really took their medicine, but they’re going to see some much better results.
Yeah, Jeff.
Q Thank you, sir. With regard to domestic travel: Should Americans feel safe or should Americans at all be traveling to states such as Washington State, New York, and other hotspots within this country?
And a follow-up on Brazil: You’re asking people who come back from America — from Europe — Americans who are coming back from Europe to self-quarantine for a couple weeks. You were in a picture with somebody who now has coronavirus from Brazil, at Mar-a-Lago. How is that different?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’ll tell you, first of all, I’m not coming back from someplace.
Q But you were exposed.
THE PRESIDENT: We — and there was somebody that they say has it. I have no idea who he is, but I take pictures and it lasts for, literally, seconds. I don’t know the gentleman that we’re talking about. I have no idea who he is. I haven’t seen the picture. I said, “There’s a picture of somebody,” but I take sometimes hundreds of pictures a day. And that night I was taking hundreds of pictures. So I just don’t know.
Now I did sit with the President for probably two hours, but he has tested negative. So that’s good.
Q It’s just a matter of —
THE PRESIDENT: Please, go ahead.
Q And the domestic travel, sir?
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead, please.
Q The travel? The first part of the question was domestic travel.
THE PRESIDENT: I would say, if you stay home, it’s not bad. It’s not bad. Now, there are certain parts of the country that are — essentially, have no — have zero problem. Washington has been very tough — in particular, a nursing home. And, but Washington — the State of Washington has been very tough. It’s been a big percentage of — when you talk about the 40 deaths, that’s been has been a big percentage of the deaths, as you know very well. And they all came from a very certain area, unfortunately.
Please, go ahead.
Q Mr. President —
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead. Okay.
Q Thank you very much, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes.
Q Cordelia Lynch, Sky News. You talked this week about the UK doing a good job in tackling coronavirus. In light of the rising cases, are you changing your mind about that? You also just spoke about possible travel restrictions. Have you discussed when they might be put in place?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, in light of the results, as we discussed before — in light of the results, we’re going to be looking at it. And I know the task force is looking at it very strongly — the Vice President, everybody. It was looking good, but they’ve –the results have been building up pretty rapidly. So we’ll — we’ll be taking another look at that. Yes, absolutely.
Go ahead, please.
Q Mr. President, thank you. I want to first follow up on Jeff’s question, because the person you were standing next to, whether you know who he is or not, tested positive for coronavirus. Dr. Fauci said this morning, “If you stand next to somebody who tested positive, you should self-isolate and get a test.” You say your White House doctor is telling you something different. Who should Americans listen to?
And my second question is —
THE PRESIDENT: I think they have to listen to their doctors, and I think they shouldn’t be jumping to get the test unless it’s necessary. But I think they have to listen to their doctors. And I mean, I don’t know the — I haven’t seen the picture. Somebody said there’s a picture with somebody taking a picture with me, but I haven’t seen it. But I can tell you —
Q Well, doctors have said you might have it even if you don’t have symptoms.
THE PRESIDENT: Well —
Q Are you being selfish by not getting tested and potentially exposing —
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I didn’t say I wasn’t going to be tested.
Q Are you going to be?
THE PRESIDENT: Most likely, yeah. Most likely.
Q When do you think that will happen?
THE PRESIDENT: Not for that reason, but because I think I will do it any way. Fairly soon.
Q Will you let us know the results?
THE PRESIDENT: We’re working on that. We’re working out a schedule.
Q My second question, Mr. President —
THE PRESIDENT: You go ahead, please.
Q That was a follow-up.
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead.
Q (Inaudible.) (Off-mic.)
THE PRESIDENT: Yeah.
Q I know there’s been a lot of talk about testing. I just want to make sure we’re clear though, because we’ve been hearing from doctors who say, as of today, they still can’t get patients tested who need a test. So, as of today, can everyone who a doctor wants to have tested get tested? And if not, when? When will doctors —
THE PRESIDENT: Well, that’s been true for a while. But I’ll let Mike — why don’t you answer that, Mike, please?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, as the President said and Dr. Fauci has articulated, the nature of our current system — where the CDC has sample sent and tests are performed or state labs perform tests or, in some cases, university and hospital labs perform tests — is generally adequate for an infectious disease or for people getting diagnostic work done. But given the sheer scale of this, the President tasked us with bringing together this extraordinary public and private partnership.
Today, by some estimates, when you add all the labs together — and, today, the President made it possible for every state in the country and their state labs to authorize labs across their state to do coronavirus testing.
We — we’re estimating somewhere between 15- and 20,000 tests a day are able to be performed. But very soon, with the program that was announced today, Americans will be able to visit one of the sites closest to them, as described on the website, if they’re symptomatic — if the questionnaire indicates it — to be able to have a test there. And these incredible companies will process the test and they’ll receive that information.
But, for now, the best advice that we can give for people is to speak to their doctor, as the President just said. And if the doctor indicates, that physician — if it’s not a university hospital or otherwise authorized lab — can contact the state lab. And, again, every state lab in the country can perform tests today.
But what the President charged us with, when I was tasked to take over the White House Coronavirus Task Force, was: Open up tests all across the country. And the President said, a few days ago, that we made it clear that any American that wanted to get a test would be able, clinically, to get a test. Because I literally heard from the Governor of Washington State, who said the doctors in Washington State were saying that if you were only mildly symptomatic, they would not order a test. And fortunately, the President directed CDC to clarify that.
Now anyone in consultation with their physician, regardless of their symptoms can request a test and their doctors will contact those agencies, those labs in their state. But very soon, Americans will be able to go to these — these drive-in sites and be able to obtain and participate in a test.
Dr. Birx, is there more to amplify that?
DR. BIRX: No, I think — I think that’s perfectly said. I think, just to review one more time about the testing: With LabCorp and Quest — I think many of you have been to a doctor’s office and seen the little boxes outside — what they do is they deliver both the specimen collection piece — because, remember, it’s a nasal swab; it’s not a tube of blood. So they’ve delivered that to doctors’ offices and hospitals, and then they will arrange to pick that up.
The important piece in this all is they’ve gone from a machine that may have a lower throughput, to the potential to have automated extraction. I know you don’t want all of these details, but it’s really key for the laboratory people. It’s an automated extraction of the RNA that then runs in an automated way on the machine, with no one touching it, and the result comes out at the other end.
So, sample to machine to results. That cuts out a lot of the manual pieces that were happening that were delaying the test results.
Q And so, with that, what’s the timeline — like from when you’re tested to when you get results? Like, next week, what should people expect?
DR. BIRX: Well, with the prior testing, it was taking several days because the test is slower. We believe with this test, because of its throughput, that the testing can be from start — remember, it has to transport — to the laboratory that will run it. And then we’re hoping that all can be finished within 24 hours, which is very similar to other tests that you receive today.
These are not point-of-care tests. We are working on point-of-care tests, but we have to realize point-of-care tests take six months or more to develop. So we’re not waiting for those. We’re still diagnosing this on nucleic acid, so as an antibody. This is actually the antigen — the actual virus in your nose that we’re amplifying.
THE PRESIDENT: I think you have to remember, though: We’re working very closely with states, and you have a smaller form and more targeted form of government going in and doing it — like, in New York, where the relationship is very good; like Gavin Newsom, where he made some very complimentary — because that’s California — he made some really complimentary comments the other day about how we’re working together. We worked on the ship together, but we worked on a lot of other things together, having to do with this.
And we’re — well, really, the relationship that we have — I can’t think of a bad relationship. We’re helping them. We’re funding them, in some cases, depending on what it is you’re talking about. And we’re all working together very closely. So we’ve done, really, I think a tremendous job of teamwork with the different states.
All right. One or two more. And if you have — if you have questions for these folks — does anybody have a question for the folks up here? Who has a question up here? You have? Okay, go ahead. If you have a question, go ahead.
Q Thank you. I have one for you as well.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. I thought — I knew you would.
Q (Laughs.) No, but I do have one for them, because I haven’t heard this yet.
THE PRESIDENT: I was waiting for that. Go ahead.
Q Because I haven’t heard this yet.
THE PRESIDENT: Ask them first, please.
Q Yes, I will. Okay. With regards to the CEOs, can you please tell us when you expect to see items like hand sanitizer that have been going out of stock very quickly back on the shelves? There have been a lot of reports about that.
And, for you, Mr. President, could you talk about a potential bailout for the cruise industry? You had suggested that could happen. Is that something you’re still looking at? And how much would that be?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I didn’t suggest that it could happen, but I can tell you it’s an industry that was very badly impacted by what’s going on with the virus. And it’s a great industry. It’s a very important industry and we will be helping them. And we will be helping the airline industry, if we have to — assuming we have to.
So far, people haven’t been asking. But if they should be asking, we’ll — we want to make sure our airlines are very strong. And then, one day — and one day, all of a sudden, it wasn’t looking so good.
Interestingly, we were just talking — I was talking to Doug, and the numbers they’re doing from the retailing standpoint — I guess, because of this, your business is like the opposite. All of you have done — you’ve been selling a lot of — a lot of stuff. Do you want to answer the question, as to the hand sanitizers?
MR. MCMILLON: Sure. Yeah, specifically the areas where we’re seeing pressure in the supply chain are surface cleaners, cleaning supplies, paper goods, in particular. Hand sanitizer is going to be very difficult to have 100 percent in stock on for some time. We’re still replenishing it and shipping it, but as soon as it hits the stores, it’s going. The same thing is true for the categories I just mentioned. So all of the retailers will be working hand-in-hand with the suppliers to bring that to the market as fast as we can.
Q What is your advice though for Americans who are seeking those items? What is your advice? They’re selling out online. They’re selling out in the stores. What —
MR. MCMILLON: I think — I think this team has given you other examples of what people can do to fight back against this virus, and you should look at the entire list.
THE PRESIDENT: Please.
DR. FAUCI: Please. I mean, obviously, it sounds very simplistic, but wash your hands as often as you possibly can. And I know you’re not always in a position to be able to wash your hands, but wash them as much as you can. If you don’t have the alcohol wipes, try and get them. If you can’t get them, just try as best as possible to do it. I mean you got to do the best you can.
THE PRESIDENT: Alex, please.
SECRETARY AZAR: Well, just general preparedness. You know, you want to wash your hands. You want to keep distance from people. And if you’re around someone sick, keep away from them. Just basic, basic public health.
No, these guys are selling a lot of toilet paper. I don’t know, there seems — Tony, do you need to give some guidance that toilet paper is not an effective protection against getting the coronavirus? (Laughs.) They’re selling out. But the — soap and water. Hot water, soap, 20 seconds. That’s how you do it.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. One more. Go ahead. Go ahead. No. Over here. Behind you. Behind you.
Q Thank you very much, Mr. President. You have a great team, of course.
THE PRESIDENT: That’s true. Thank you.
Q My question is to Mr. President: Are you happy from the Chinese response? What correctly really told you — what really happened those days?
And second, Prime Minister Modi, or India, have closed borders until April 15th. If you have spoken with the Prime Minister of India, and if they have needed any help?
And finally, sir, any message for the small businesses? Because they are losing some businesses because of this. Thank you, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: Well, on small businesses, the Small Business Administration is now stacked with money to help them, and we’re going to make the money readily available if they need it — small businesses.
We had a great time in India. It was an incredible two days, and he’s a great friend of mine. And he’s a friend of his people, because he was greeted incredibly warmly, as was I. And that stadium — that was an incredible event. And I loved being with him, so just say hello to him. But we — we talked about everything. We talked about far more than just borders.
And as far as President Xi — likewise, he’s a friend of mine. I believe that we are dealing in good faith. And we just worked to, as you know, and as I just said — we just worked an incredible deal. A big deal. One of the biggest deals ever made of any kind. Big even by the standards of some of the people here — the deal with China. But I think that they want to get to the bottom of things also.
We’re working — our drug companies, our pharmaceutical companies are working very closely with China and with India, as you know, and with — all over the world. And they’re all over the world. These are magnificent companies that are very, very knowledgeable.
And it’s — we’re very lucky to have them, because I think you’re going to come up with — whether it’s therapeutic or whether it’s just help — helping getting better. And then ultimately, a vaccine, which takes a little bit longer because of the test periods and a couple of other reasons. You’re going to have it very quickly because of the great knowledge. And they’ll have it very quickly. They’ve made a tremendous amount of progress.
Thank you all very much. We appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you very much.

This is the previous Ti anon, and I’d first like to say I apologize for coming off the way I did, as if I just really wanted to be typed as a Ti user; I didn’t mean to and was only experiencing frustration, as Ti was sort of a last resort, but I’m having trouble identifying whether or not I use it. I’ve no idea why, as I usually have no problem seeing it in other people (such as my confirmed INTP friend, who I recognized high Ti in immediately when he thought himself to be an INTJ),
but when it comes to myself my mind is blanking out on whether or not the definitions apply to me. Due to the misunderstanding, I’ll try to be clearer in this ask, so beginning with this, the question: Judging by the following things, do you think I use high Ti or high Fi, or any other judging function for that matter? I’ve narrowed it down to those two, but I’m not a hundred percent sure. I’m asking solely about the judging functions though because I’m nearly a hundred percent sure that I use dominant Ne and inferior Si, so nothing I say will pertain to those two functions (unless, somehow it does and you think I’m mistyped, in which case please feel free to correct me). I’m not at all sure if everything I’m about to list is really helpful, but: 1.) I think aloud, nearly lol the time. I’m constantly thinking while I’m speaking, as my head is far too messy to organize this stuff internally; the only time I ever release a semi-finished product is in writing because I often edit as I go
2.) When I don’t understand something, I obsess over it. While I can usually still operate on the basis that that thing is true, in the background I will still try to figure it out on my own time. For example, I’ve more or less settled on being an ENTP due to no other types matching as far as I can see, but before I can truly move on, I need to have it confirmed, and I need to understand why. Otherwise I’ll always doubt it. Hence this ask. (The original question still stands though.)
3.) When I was younger, I always considered things on a logical basis, not anything else. My friend would have a problem, and rather than sympathize, I’d tell her how to fix it and expect her to stop being upset. Now, I’ve gotten a lot better at doing that and understanding that just because there’s a seemingly simple solution to me doesn’t mean they won’t still be upset, but I had to work on both considering others’ feelings when making a decision and taking into account their feelings in general communication.
4.) When I get stressed, I become a control freak. I obsess over small things, and I don’t let anyone do anything because they won’t do it as well as I do, and if I don’t do it well, I’d still rather it be my fault than theirs. This is shown most often when I wait and procrastinate too long on something and then someone offers to help; I almost always have a mini freak out and tell them not to touch anything, and I hate them hovering over my shoulder.
5.) When upset, esp anger,I’m very dramatic; I explode and then I get over it. Even mild inconveniences often result in me being overdramatic, though I usually recognize I’m being overdramatic and try not to take anything at face value because I know I’m being irrational. I’m pretty open with most of my emotions, excluding sadness, but thats due to mental illness things that I won’t address. My mood fluctuates a lot, and everyone knows it. I can go from apathetic to happy in two seconds flat and will at least squeal.
Also, I’ve an extremely hard time acknowledging my emotions. I’m usually aware of them, but when it comes to acknowledging them, I’ve the bad habit of shoving them to the side until I absolutely have to deal with them, meaning they’re interfering to a point of it being a problem. When I do finally recognize them, I always shoot for the root of the problem and fix it before moving on, which isn’t always as simple as it sounds unfortunately. Wow, okay, that was an extremely long ask, which I also apologize for, but I’m hoping it gave you anything to work off of? If not though, could you at least tell me what to look for when trying to type myself as a Ti user? (If you’ve already done this elsewhere, my bad; I’ve scrolled through various tags of yours [entp, high ti, ti, etc.] and not been able to find one, which would be a mistake on my part.)
--------
Hi anon,
This paragraph is before I’ve done any typing and just quickly skimmedbut: if you’re having trouble probably the most significant aspect here is thateven after I’ve explicitly pointed out that your question is not “what is mytype” but rather “please type me as having Ti” the question you asked was still“how do I determine if I have Ti or not” and that’s not really how I type(which is also why you probably didn’t find anything on the blog). I tend notto go by “do I or do I not have this specific function”, but rather “whatfunctions do I seem to have based on this behavior.” Which is also not to saythis is the only way to type but it is the way I do it, so if you’re looking for someone to zero in on Ti I am probably not a good resource for that.
For the actual typing:
Thinking aloud is very associated with Te actually –the act of externalizing one’s thought process. I suppose it could beconsistent with a dominant extroverted perceiving function as well, but I wouldnot associate it with Ti. Editing as you go could be anything. I edit as I go.I suspect it’s just a matter of habit and preference.
Similarly, wanting to figure something out and having asense of curiosity about it isn’t exclusively Ti; most people are curious andmany are extremely curious and never entirely move on from things they couldn’tfigure out; however, I’d associate Ti with being less able to push it to aconcern to be dealt with in the background.
Focusing on the solution and not comfort is more generallytrue of thinkers, and stressing out and becoming very obsessed with control isI’d argue least true of Ti as a higher judging function – stressed Ti userseither tend to get very logically finicky but not controlling, or have emotionaloutbursts. The controlling aspect could be inferior Si but I’d actually expectto see this far more on the Te-Fi axis; either as high Te going into overdrive immediatelyand you leaning on your strengths, or as lower Te in a stress reaction.
Your emotional description is also making me think of highTe more so than anything high Ti to the point that I think it might be worthcontacting your INTP friend and rethinking their type. Many thinkers tend toignore their emotions to an extent but high Ti users tend to be somewhatunaware of them, whereas Te users are more likely to be aware but refuse toprocess, and especially to shove them aside (though to be fair that can just begood old-fashioned coping mechanisms and denial; I completely understand notwanting ot share mental illness information but as you mentioned that may be havingeffects on your emotional state that are not well explained by MBTI.
So: I would look at the Te doms.If you are absolutely positive you have dominant Ne, I would next considerother factors outside of MBTI; while you’re not necessarily a typical ENFP from this ask you do have some separation of expression vs. felt emotions and I wouldn’t rule out a feeling type entirely, especially since you mentioned mental illness may have an influence on some of your behaviors (not because feelers are mentally ill but because there are known factors that might be influencing your behaviors such that you don’t seem like a typical feeler but could still be one).

Because this is a very long, multi-part ask from an anon, I’ve copied the whole thing into a new post for ease of reading:
To be honest, in the past I was on the exclusionists’ side with the SAM (Split Attraction Model). It’s harmful! Stop forcing it on people! Attractions don’t need to be separated like that! Even though I myself am technically aroace. I was angry because I felt like I was being erased and spoken over in the ace community. I felt like I was being forced to separate my romantic and sexual attraction when they weren’t separate. It made me furious that I couldn’t make a post or comic calling myself asexual without some ace commenting, “no, asexuality is actually x aces can do/feel y that’s not what asexual means!” As if I’m confused.
So basically I hated that the SAM was forced on the word asexual any time someone used it. I’ve somewhat changed my mind recently: I now understand that splitting attraction is crucial to some people, but I do think we need something else because I can also understand genuine reasons why some are adverse to it and feel like its forced on them. There has been concern with using existing terminology and splitting them into romantic and sexual attractions.
Maybe instead of doing this we could create terms that are shorter and mean the same, combining the two attractions into one distinct identity. For example, a panromantic asexual is, uhh, tresexual? Not the real alternative–just to show what I mean. Arosexual or aseromantic could be umbrella terms for aspecs who feel one type of attraction and not the other. I’m not saying we should abandon the terms we have now.
Like I said, I’m not against the SAM any more (I’m sorry I ever was) and definitely think anyone can identify how they want. But I think we as a community need labels that are more concise and convey more information. I think it will make it easier for aspecs to find people that are most like them instead of just one part.
Just so folks know: you (general you) don’t need to insist to me that you’ve changed your ways. You don’t need to prove to me that you’ve learnt better. You can just say “I no longer believe that” and leave the conversation there. I dislike the purity culture tendency of having to constantly demonstrate one’s growth and resulting apology in order to reveal a less-palatable truth about the people we were, and I’m not going to demand it of the people who are doing the risky and dangerous thing of revealing their past in conversation with me.
We can’t grow as a community unless we talk about the beliefs we held and why we held them. We will fail in outreach to others if people don’t feel safe to talk about their history–we will fail to learn the unspoken undercurrents of why harmful attitudes are compelling. Folks who have learnt and changed are a vital bridge between two sides, and I think any requirement to constantly apologise or offer up reassurances for making a mistake long after is only going to stop the people we most need to hear from talking to us.
And oh is this a reason we need to better discuss and understand.
It is difficult to have conversations about aromanticism that encompass the non-split attractions of asexuals and aros who don’t use the SAM while still highlighting the experience of aromanticism as felt by folks (ace and allo alike) who do need the SAM. The fact that I’ve had to write out your identity with such a clumsy, ridiculous line to clarify your shape of ace against other shapes of ace encapsulates this in a nutshell: for crying out loud, asexuals who don’t use the SAM! That’s not your ace identity! The fact that I do not know a better way to talk about you (or the non-SAM-using ace character in an earlier ask) in clear, simple, concise language is a problem. I shouldn’t have to keep referencing the SAM just to clarify your particular identity and experiences. Anon, I know you live this and don’t need my explaining to you the exceedingly obvious, but I’m writing this out because my attempt to respond to you is such an example of the problem you’re discussing with how we use the SAM, and it only worsens when you have to endure folks correcting you in discussing your identity. When I can’t even respond to your asks to validate you without floundering, we have a problem.
Right now, we either push aside non-split aces and aros to focus on the rough groupings of aro, ace and aro-ace, or we settle on awkward attempts to include you. Neither is good enough.
I want to stress that you should feel angry, othered, alienated and hurt by the sheer degree of circumlocution needed to talk about your experience as distinct from folks who identify as aro-ace and alloromantic asexuals, and the corrections you endure when you do talk about who you are without it. I’ve felt the pain of losing a word myself: when I came out as agender in 2012, it meant genderless (other neutral-gender meanings now used for agender were covered by neutrois) and it is a difficult and alienating thing to see my identity used to include other experiences of having a gender. In my case, I do have the word genderless to fall back on, but I still feel divorced from a word that was once fully my own. I am still corrected by agender-as-neutral-gender folks telling me it isn’t a problem that agender is conceptualised as a gender instead of as the absence of one, even though said conceptualisation is a constant microaggression I endure from the non-binary community. We talk on the evolution of language in LGBTQIA+ communities and the importance of accepting these shifts to be more inclusive; we don’t talk about the pain of having one’s identity shift to mean broader umbrellas and how to manage when we’ve lost that precise word to say exactly who we are. We don’t validate each other in our feelings of losing language, and in not doing this, I think our activism falls short.
When we do try to talk on the pain of this language and identity loss, we’re seen as regressive or hateful–even exclusionary. We’re seen as holding back the LGBTQIA+ community’s progression and growth. Is it any wonder that some folks lean in exclusionist directions when there’s no space to recognise, discuss or explore our feelings?
The fact that ace means many things is a problem, and most of us, myself included, lean on aro-ace in our conversations because we don’t have the lexicon to handle aces and aros with non-split attraction.
At the same time, anon, I am so leery of conjuring words for allosexual aros to describe individually the combination of our split attractions.
My first argument against is that aromanticism already makes us less allosexual to non-a-specs. Conversely, allosexual attractions also tend to make us less a-spec in a-spec spaces where aro is treated as a second thought to the ace. Alloromantic asexuals have the advantage of ace being an aspect of their identity, the more recognised and centred side of the a-spec umbrella in a-spec spaces; allosexual aros have the disadvantage of being aro, the less recognised and actively de-centred side of the same umbrella in a-spec spaces. To have a word that doesn’t specify both the aromantic-spectrum or the allosexual attraction identities seems a thing that to me will be taken advantage of by allo-allo spaces and a-spec spaces alike, to further erase and deny whichever part of allo-aro they find inconvenient or difficult. It will also exclude us from the communities based around our allosexual attractions, communities that already erase and deny us.
The reason I tried to deny my pansexuality for so long, to ignore the fact that both grey-ace and ace didn’t fit me all the time (honestly: more of the time) was to better belong in a-spec spaces–to be included in the community in ways aro alone, at the time, didn’t grant me. I felt I had to be aro-ace because aro wasn’t enough to be heard and accepted. Even now, there’s little to no conversation on being gay and aro, bisexual and aro, heterosexual and aro, or lesbian and aro (amongst other allosexual aro identities) in aro-spec spaces, and language that doesn’t name our allosexual attraction, I fear, won’t halt that trend.
Secondly, our attractions are split, so why not the language used to describe it? Why shouldn’t the language directly encapsulate the nature of our identities and experiences by requiring two words to communicate it? My abrosexuality and my aromanticism are two different things–shaping each other, yes, but separate experiences nonetheless. I have no need to merge them together in a way that is unnatural to me. I want the world to see the component parts of who I am. I see your suggestion as a way to un-split our language, to create singular and unified terms for two experiences. While there’s every possibility that some folks will like this, I think it diminishes and disregards the reasons why many aro-aces (especially in aro-spec spaces) ID as aro-ace and why many allo-aros require two words.
Lastly, I do not see how the structures of the words you’ve offered are any improvement on already-extant language (like “pansexual aro”) in terms of communicating meaning when this is already communicated without undue difficulty. We already have umbrella terms in allo-aro and allo-ace; I don’t understand the point in replacing these with another single word.
The problem is not the existence and use of the SAM. The problem is not the terms aro-ace, allo-aro and allo-ace. Introducing specific un-split words for the combination of a person’s split romantic and sexual attraction isn’t a solution, anon, because it does not address the problem we’re facing in how we use language or how it is currently harming you.
The problem as I see it is that “ace” is used to mean, simultaneously, allo-ace, aro-ace, ace-spectrum and non-SAM-using-ace. That’s four different meanings and experiences attached to the same word! That is what we need to address: the fact that there is no distinct, non-clumsy term for depicting precisely how you are ace, because it can be used, alone, to mean four different things. That is where the lack of clarity lies, not in words like “pansexual aro” or “panromantic ace”. In fact, if using “allo-ace” were more common (as a descriptor, not an identity) in ace-spec spaces by allo-aces, I suspect it would be easier for you to exist as ace alone without using the SAM and enduring the “but aces can experience aromantic attraction!” corrections.
In that light, it seems to me that the easiest solution for clarity of language and expression of pride and identity is to crate a new modifying term before “ace” and “aro” for non-SAM-using aces and non-SAM-using aros. This is not a good answer and I will acknowledge that. I’m sure, anon, that you connect to ace as much as I connect to agender, that you want to use your own word to describe who you are. I’m not offering this lacking knowledge of what it’ll cost you to conjure a word that describes, solely and specifically, non-SAM-using ace when ace alone fits that use in your heart and history.
This way, though, better fits how the community already uses language; it doesn’t require a complete overhaul of established terminology. It also gives you space to communicate your shape of ace now without waiting on the rest of the ace-spec community to catch up.
I’d look at finding another word or prefix, so we have aro-aces, allo-aces and [invented word]-aces. In other words, every ace fits under the umbrella of ace with an accompanying prefix describing their shape of ace, so you don’t have to identify as aro-ace or reference the SAM at all. Uni-aces/aros? Mono-aces/aros? A prefix that means “only” or “wholly”? I don’t know what that prefix might be, and I am not the right person to choose it–this conversation should be had amongst a-specs who don’t use the SAM. I’m just throwing out a couple of words so folks get a sense of what I’m suggesting and how it might work.
I’ll stress that I don’t mean that you need to identify as [invented word]-ace: I don’t identify as allo-aro or aro-ace, but instead use those words to communicate my experiences where appropriate and as a reference to how I am aro-spec. I mean this usage in the same way: you identify as ace and ace alone, and when someone questions you or expresses confusion, this is a tool to describe how you are ace, just as allo-ace and allo-aro describes a way of being ace and aro.
I do want to conclude by validating you, again, anon, in your pain–and you are free to disagree with my conclusion, as is anyone else. Please, everyone, take my words as a discussion point, disregard them where necessary and get a conversation going, even if that conversation is proving me wrong, because we need a solution above all. I hate that in writing this post I must hurt you by using clumsy and alienating constructions to convey my meaning. There’s nothing right about my language in this post, and I am so sorry that I don’t know how better to refer to you as the ace you are and refer to, specifically, your shape of ace.
Whatever happens from this post on, we must do better.

American Gods - ‘House on the Rock’ Review
Tumblr media
"To be continued, in what some call the real world."
American Gods is back, and opens season two with the centerpiece location from the first half of the novel. Was it worth the wait? Yes. It was worth the wait.
I don't think that there's anyone who's watching this show who is unaware of just how long the wait was between seasons one and two. It's been just shy of two years since the corpse of Laura Moon walked out onto Easter's balcony and politely interrupted the opening ceremonies of God War I with a relatively polite request to speak to her husband. It wasn't precisely a cliffhanger, but it definitely was a tense situation which was waiting for some resolution.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances behind the scenes, they weren't able to pick up the scene where they left it, and had no choice but to paper over the join as best they could and continue with the larger story.
To quickly sum up the scene as we left it, Wednesday had convinced Easter to join the side of the old gods in his coming war. Media, Technical Boy, and Mr. World were present to witness her choice, and it forced Mr. World to finally accept the declaration of war; something he had previously been disinclined to do. As a result of these advancements in the god/war plot, Shadow found and declared his belief in all the gods around him. Or, alternately, as a result of Shadow finding and declaring his belief in the gods around him, those advancements in the god/war plot occurred. It depends on how you read the situation. And as those events simultaneously climaxed and/or caused one another, Laura and Mad Sweeney joined them on the lanai to deal with her marital problems.
Fade to black. End series one.
Series two picks up in the aftermath of those events, but only indirectly. As discussed at length in my previous review, one quarter of the actors present in the finale are no longer with the show, which means that we don't get to see how the immediate moments following the end of season one play out. To be fair, it's possible that they never would have picked up exactly where they left off. There's a school of thought that leans toward resolving cliffhangers by picking up somewhere unrelated and then winding your way back to explain what happened. Steven Moffat, as an example, is a big proponent of that technique. Maybe the plan was always to begin with Technical Boy frantically driving his limo away from the scene with the remnants of Mr. World in the back. Perhaps the only real difference is that Media would have been with them, if Gillian Anderson was still on the show.
In any case, they have two missing characters to account for, and I think they made a really good decision in the case of Media. Making her absence part of the plot turns a problem into a storytelling opportunity, and was a good call.  We find out pretty quickly that Media has gone missing after the finale, and Technical Boy's plotline is going to be looking for her on Mr. World's orders. That opens up a lot of storytelling possibilities, and it was a good solution to the problem. It is a little odd that we last saw all three of them together and perfectly fine, only to be told now that she somehow vanished, but it holds together, and they have plenty of time to give us more explanation as the search for her goes on.
Easter, on the other hand, merely gets a line of dialog later on from Mr. Nancy, stating that she's not going to participate anymore because she's mad about Wednesday running over her bunnies. That's kind of a cop out, but Easter's story was essentially told last episode, so it's not too great a loss to move on from her to other characters. If you're familiar with the novel, you know that Easter has one fairly significant plot function down the road, but at the pace the show is going that probably won't happen until season five or six, so there's plenty of time to either mend fences with Kristin Chenoweth or figure out another option before we get there. If we even get there, for that matter – serialized television has broken all of our hearts before, remember.
The somewhat utilitarian way that the show moved on from the season one climax is kind of indicative of a change of tone overall. It's not that there's less meat on the storytelling bone, but there is notably less fat on it. When we left them, Laura had just found out that Wednesday had her killed, Sweeney had revealed to her that it was him who actually did the task, and Laura was about to tell Shadow both of these facts. But we pick up with the four of them on a road trip together, so whatever happened they apparently worked that all out. What we do get is the map segue showing the trip to Wisconsin and while there's some admirably efficient dialog between them that reminds us of a couple of plot points that we might have forgotten over the hiatus and establishes a few character touches that are going to be relevant later, it seems pretty clear that the show is mostly interested in getting them to the big showpiece and isn't going to be delayed by a little thing like character conflict. Witness, for example, the way that Salim just walks into a scene with the Jinn with no lead in about his journey to Wisconsin, or how he found the Jinn inside the house. Neither of those things matter, the show just wants to get to their long awaited reunion.
Honestly, it mostly feels like after spending all of season one not getting to the House on the Rock, arguably the big showpiece of the setup phase of the novel, they were determined to make it happen in the season two opener as quickly and efficiently as possible. So while we finally get to meet Mr. World's network, and Mr. Town finally gets brought into things, the Black Briar Secret Government Safehouse and Country Club is clearly being sketched in quickly so that they exist by the end of the episode, when we need them to be responsible for a sniper attack.
All of this makes me suspect that my take on things behind the scenes was correct, and it came down to Fuller and Green wanting more of an anthology show and Gaiman wanting to focus more on the plot of the novel. Both of which viewpoints are totally valid, if that needs to be stated.
So, now that we've gotten to the big showpiece setting, how did they do with it? Well, the House on the Rock looks fantastic, as it would. They filmed at the house itself, which is a real location and exists pretty much exactly as described, if anyone hadn't already heard that. The carousel looked fantastic, and the realization of the council of gods inside Wednesday's head is beautiful and stuffed to the brim with nice little details like the way Zorya Vechernayaya has three faces when you focus on her and Anansi's spider eyes. They really needed to make that scene look amazing, and you can see the work on screen. Although there is just a little too much usage of smoke and sparks, which is usually a tell that there's a lot of compositing that they're trying to blend together. The diner scene afterwards is equally well presented, and actually more deserving of a shout out, as 20-30 people having a party at a restaurant is a nightmare brief as far as staging and filming goes.
That's really the episode in a nutshell. The things that needed to happen they did very, very well. It's just that there's very few instances of extraneous details outside of the big important things that needed to happen, and I think the show is just a little less rich for it. Of course this is only the first episode of the season, and premieres are notorious for that exact criticism, so we'll see how things develop.

Quotes:
Laura: "I still don’t understand how such a sweet old man can have so many enemies." Wednesday: "Oh, it’s perfectly simple, my dear. Jealousy. Unmitigated jealousy."
Laura: "Do you believe in mermaids now?" Shadow: "I don’t know what I believe in yet. I guess. I don’t know."
Jinn: "You’re here for the meeting?" Bilquis: "I wasn’t formally invited."
Mr. Nancy: "Mad Sweeney, is that you? Or is it Wednesday’s bullshit I smell."
Sweeney: "You sound like a man who’d fight to get back into those maggoty panties." Maggoty Panties is the name of my new punk band.
Bilquis: "I was old in the desert before they sacrificed the first horse to you. I will be heard. Unless you’re afraid?"
Mr. Nancy: "Apparently the houses in this area were built by some skinny white motherf**ker named Frank Lloyd Wright. Some say his evil twin brother built this one. Frank Lloyd Wrong."
Tumblr media
Bits and Pieces:
-- I'm not 100% clear what Bilquis' goals at the meeting were. She's nominally working for the new gods, or at least seems to be, and she clearly knew about the sniper because she left the restaurant immediately before the shooting started. Is she a spy? Was she supposed to disrupt the meeting? That would explain her speech about the new gods being nice and giving her a new platform, but it didn't seem like her heart was in it.
-- It's very sad that Zorya Vechernayaya was shot and killed, but didn't we just see like three other gods killed in the same crossfire? Did we just not like the god of getting his face blown off as much?
-- It's intriguing that we were shown twice that gods can't identify one another as gods on sight. Wednesday might have been lying for reasons of his own when he claimed to think Salim was a god, but then Bilquis made the same mistake with Laura, so it looks like they genuinely can't tell. That surprised me. Neither Salim nor Laura took Winston Zedmore's advice on this issue.
-- I can't have been alone in momentarily believing that Anansi was about to launch into the story about the tiger's balls. Which I suspect was deliberate.
-- This week in Orlando Jones' Fabulous Outfit Watch: He was sporting a blue plaid number that was quite nice, but not quite as shiny and wonderful as the shiny cream number he was wearing while he did the tailoring a few episodes back. Again, I really, really hope that Orlando Jones is enjoying every second of his wardrobe.
Tumblr media
-- As they got on the carousel, Mr. Nancy rides a lion, Wednesday appears to be atop a wolf, Shadow climbs on an eagle, and Bilquis mounts a pirate.
-- Mad Sweeney, after complaining repeatedly about Laura having his luck, got lucky when he slipped in a patch of blood and avoided getting shot. Emily Browning's eye roll when the bullet hit her not-previously-damaged shoulder was priceless.
-- According to the fortune teller booth, Shadow's lucky number is none and his lucky color is dead. Man, just when you thought fortune teller booths couldn't be creepier.
-- For all his irritation that Salim had followed him, the Jinn immediately moved to protect him when the bullets started flying. That was sweet.
A solid season opener that manfully took the occasionally wandering larger plotline from season one and firmly put it on a more defined course. I just hope that less exploration of the corners of the novel's universe doesn't end up being no exploration of the corners of the novel's universe. Oh, and I already miss Fuller's trademark screeching strings and horns approach to incidental music. Hope that makes a return as well.
Three out of four creepy fortune telling mannequins.

Dental Implants in Manalapan
Cosmetic Dentistry in Manalapan - A Reason For Your Enhanced Smile
The dentist should be chosen according to your needs.
A Dentist should always have excellent dental education and must be licensed. You need to make sure that their license to date. Depending on the type of dentist you are looking for, it might require additional certification as a Doctor of Dental Surgery and Dental Medicine. It brings us to another critical factor when choosing a dentist.
What kind of dentist you're looking for?
Are you looking for a general dentist or do you have any specific dental problem that needs fixing? You may be looking for Dentist New in Manalapan who specializes in cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening and porcelain veneers.
If you should choose a Dentist New in Manalapan, select someone who can make you feel comfortable in the dentist chair and whom you can trust. He can also offer you advice on his recommendation for a particular dentist if you need other work done.
For example, your dentist may perform dental hygiene procedures such as cleaning teeth thoroughly; make the filling of cavities, identifying specific problems that more dentists will examine and address, and other common diagnoses. Always follow your dentist before choosing him as the supplier of your teeth as you would be comfortable with him or work on your teeth. It applies to all types of dental service you decide whether a general dentist or dental specialist who was recommended by a general dentist.
Another type of Dentist you should be concerned with is a cosmetic dentist. For general dentistry, you can choose the more popular ones because many people have gone to have their oral health examined there. There are a lot of people that may refer to you an excellent dentist. However, not many people are willing to pay for cosmetic dentistry that is not required. For this reason, it is more difficult to find a cosmetic dentist that many people go in for procedures. In this case, you should see the following factors when choosing the Best Dentist in Manalapan:
youtube
Teeth whitening can be a great asset in improving your appearance. For the fastest results, laser teeth whitening is the way to go. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, while still maintaining effectiveness, professional in office bleaching would be your best option. Lastly, if you don't mind waiting for results and want to save money, you should first try over the counter teeth whitening products.
Teeth Whitening in Manalapan is one of the easiest ways to improve the overall look of your smile. Once the preserve of movie stars, it is now both affordable and readily available, and there are quite a few options to choose from them.
Modern teeth whitening methods are so compelling that almost anyone can get their teeth whitened to a significant degree of brightness, and many treatments can be completed in one visit to the dentist.
What is Tooth Whitening?
Tooth Whitening is the process used to improve the brightness of the teeth, which is achieved by removing as much staining as possible. The techniques used range from natural home remedies to chemical and laser teeth whitening methods performed by cosmetic dentists.
The constant build-up of organic pigments on the teeth can cause them to discolor over some time. These protein pigments derive from the different kinds of food, drink, tobacco and even antibiotics people consume over the years, and cause the natural whiteness of their teeth to be gradually diminished.
The yellowing of the teeth is also a part of the aging process and is determined to some extent by genetic and dietary factors. Some people have naturally brighter enamel than others.
What different types exist?
There are quite a few options available to choose from them. Most artificial methods rely on some form of peroxide to remove stains and bleach your teeth white.
When peroxide compounds are used, oxygen is released and bleaches the pigmented substances present in the enamel the teeth. This method restores the natural color of the teeth without destroying the surface enamel. Teeth whitening procedures can be performed at a dentist's office, or in the comfort of your own home. Here are some of the favorite techniques.
Whitening Toothpastes Whitening toothpaste contain specific mildly abrasive components which help scrub away the surface stains and leave teeth looking cleaner and whiter. They don't, however, have a bleaching action. Whitening toothpaste is generally not as effective as other methods of teeth whitening.
Whitening Strips Teeth whitening strips come in the form of a sticky tape that may be directly applied across the front of the teeth. They contain a bleaching solution that incorporates a peroxide compound and is usually used twice a day for about half an hour each time. Teeth whitening strips may be bought over-the-counter as well as from your dentist.
Whitening Gels Teeth whitening gels are also peroxide based, and they are applied over the teeth with a small brush. Self-application gel kits are available that can be used at home. The kit usually comes with a peroxide gel-filled mouth tray that is fitted to your teeth. They are simple to use, reasonably affordable, and effective.
Cosmetic dentistry is a field of dentistry which aims to improve the overall appearance of the face by making corrections to the teeth. Cosmetic dentistry is not a distinct branch of dentistry. Instead, it is a combination of various techniques with the sole motive of improving the appearance. Cosmetic dental procedures are somewhat costly when compared to standard dental procedures. It also takes a lot of training and expertise to become a cosmetic dentist.
Cosmetic dentistry differs from traditional dentistry in some ways. General dentistry places more emphasis on restoring the functionality of teeth that have been damaged by various diseases and conditions. On the other hand, Cosmetic Dentistry in Manalapan is mainly about the aesthetic appearance. However, it should be noted that the domains of standard dentistry and cosmetic dentistry overlap in some places.
There are some procedures available today that can improve the appearance of the person. Some of the standard dental procedures include teeth whitening, shaping, false teeth, dental veneers, and dental implants. In some cases, cosmetic dental procedures may be used in combination with other cosmetic procedures that are aimed at improving the appearance of other parts of the face.
Dental care treatment has become an absolute necessity for millions of people worldwide; in spite of improvements and advancements in dental care and health, people are afflicted by gum disease and tooth decay. Till a few decades ago, bridges and fixing dentures were two main options for treating people with missing, broken or in situations where teeth have to be surgically removed.
Modern-day dental care includes Dental Implants in Manalapan that are replacement teeth roots. An implant can support one or more artificial teeth; the implant is a screw made of titanium that is fixed into the jawbone in place of a tooth root when it fails. They provide a strong foundation or base on which removable or permanent teeth can be set to match existing natural teeth.
There are many advantages to Dental Implants in Manalapan, some of which are:
• Greater comfort - dental implants can help avoid the discomfort of fixing and removing dentures.
• Ease of chewing and eating food - dentures do not always fit 100%; with use, they become less fitting and chances of slipping out while chewing food is high. With dental implants, this problem is eliminated.
• Better oral health - dental implants do not require other teeth to be modified or adjusted thus ensuring that more natural teeth are left unharmed thereby improving dental health and hygiene in the long-term.
Nobody likes visits to the family dentist. We typically associate these visits with pain, fluorescent lights, and cold surgical chairs. Not to mention those trays of very menacing looking spiky tools. Ow! But the fact is your family dentist is integral to your oral hygiene.
In today's world, where we put so much emphasis on looking good, a healthy smile is as important as a healthy weight and a healthy heart. Our teeth are essential for a healthy life. If our teeth aren't wholesome, it affects our eating habits and in severe cases can even result in malnutrition. If we don't get the necessary vitamins and nutrients that our bodies need, it can also result in deficiency diseases which can damage our overall health. To maintain the upkeep of our oral health, it is usually recommended to visit the family dentist at least twice a year.
The Family Dentist in Manalapan typically provides some dental procedures such as cleaning, check-ups, and tooth filling. Many also perform cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, crowns, bridges, and veneers. The main advantage is that they are also qualified to work on children's teeth and this is what allows the whole family to use the same dentist.
One of the best ways to find a Family Dentist in Manalapan is to ask your friends, co-workers or family. However, it may be the case that you have recently moved to town and therefore it's not so easy to ask friends. In this case, co-workers are the obvious solution for some. But if that's not a possibility, it's better to make appointments for simple check-ups with a few different dentists in the area.
A dental emergency is something most people do not usually experience. It is a kind of noble mission which requires the immediate and generous help of an emergency dentist. During this time, the dentist in an emergency must be able to adequately and carefully make provisions and as always, be prepared for certain emergency dental cases. Of course, the anticipation includes the flexibility of schedules to address Emergency Dentist in Manalapan with the utmost and total efficiency and effectiveness of a medical emergency.
An emergency dentist has an emergency outside of her regular working hours includes typically emergency contact information and a standard reception number on their business card. As a patient; these numbers should be stored in a phone book or on their mobile phone. There may be times when a person cannot get through to these numbers.
A majority of the population has a dental phobia. It is a psychological fear where patients try to deny the fact that they have dental problems until they are too painful to ignore. By that time, an individual may have allowed the problem to cause other medical issues. Therefore, it is the great responsibility of an Emergency Dentist in Manalapan who responds to emergency dental cases to teach their patients the importance of the proper dental and oral care, to avoid some severe medical complications caused by tooth decay.

Canis lupus familiaris
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... @birdsbeesandlemonadetrees asked the fateful question.
“Imagine with me, if you will, Felix and Locus , mercenaries supreme, as Corgis.”
I was, of course, sucked in.
And when Fluff Week rolled around... Well, Lem and @arirashkae asked to see it. This is probably not the end of this AU, because I have ideas. But here is a short, sweet, and absolutely fucking crack-tastic beginning to this universe.
Also on Ao3
Look, Felix has seen some weird shit in his day on Chorus. Chorus is a really fucking weird planet; alien artifacts, plants that eat people, lakes made of acid… it’s a goddamn nightmare world on the best of days, and ever since Lavernius Tucker, alien Virgin Mary or whatever, has started waving his magic alien-provided sword-dick-key around…
Well, things have been getting even weirder.
Sometimes it’s good weird; sometimes they find weapons that shoot lasers or shiny things for Felix to add to his stash or important looking things to send to Hargrove.
The point is though, that Felix has had some really weird days as a result of Chorus-related-bullshit.
But this?
This takes the goddamn cake. And probably the rest of the bakery with it.
Felix’s legs are short and stubby. He is also way too close to the ground.
Any comfort that he might derive from the fact that Locus is also too close to the ground, and that his legs are also short and stubby, is not mitigated by the fact that he’s still taller than Felix.
Which is simply unfair.
Because if Felix was going to be turned into a goddamn dog, he would like to at least be taller than Locus.
And to make matters worse, what kind of dog was he?
A motherfucking corgi.
Locus was too, but Felix can’t even joy it as much as he should, because Locus is some sort of weird hybrid thing that somehow manages to look somewhat more, if not badass, at least less ridiculous.
“A husky, I believe,” Locus says. Felix bites him, just to prove he can, and gets knocked over for his trouble.
“Hey!” says someone up front. “Don’t make uth muzzle you two!”
Because there’s icing on this cake.
The goddamn armies of Chorus have found them, decided they’re regular dogs and are brining them back to base.
Normally, Felix would be goddamn delighted to be taken to enemy headquarters. They could get some great recon in. But they’re now being taken away from that weird-ass temple where this shit had happened, and Felix is pretty sure that any chance of reversing it is located there.
This, Felix decides, flopping down as far away from Locus as he can in the back of the warthog, is going to suck.
“Whoth a good boy?” Katie Jensen coos.
Correction: this is going to suck a lot.
Kimball doesn’t quite know what to expect when Jensen presents her with two dogs.
“We think they’re brotherth!” Jensen says. “They were just out in the jungle, all alone!”
Kimball examines them. The one that Jensen is holding has been identified as a “Horgi,” a Husky/Corgi mix. He has an X shaped pattern on his face, and some of the spots on his back form circle patterns. He squirms in Jensen’s arms, uncomfortable, while the one that’s on a leash yelps and strains against the leash.
That one’s a straight up Corgi, orange in color, and is baring its teeth in an oddly adorable way.
“Bitters named that one Trouble, becauth he bit Andersmith thix times already,” Jensen informs her. “We haven’t named this little guy yet though!”
Kimball sighs, and accepts the less troublesome one from Jensen. “And you’re giving them to me, because…”
“Dogs are good for streth!” Jensen reports obediently. “And Dr. Grey thinks that you could use thome relief!”
Kimball stares at Trouble. Trouble stares back at her.
“I’m sure,” she says dryly.
The thing is, Kimball does like dogs. A lot. She hasn’t had the chance to have one in a while—she hadn’t even realized there were dogs left on Chorus. But here are two, very fluffy, very cute dogs. Sure, one of them looks like it needs obedience school, but that’s why Kimball took her old dog to obedience school. She probably remembers enough to pull him into line.
She names the Horgi Tic-Tac-Toe. They call him Tic-Tac.
Trouble remains named Trouble, because he’s earned that name.
Locus is… he’s not sure what’s happening any more.
There is a strange… permanence, to all of this. It feels like something has fundamentally shifted in his bones, and he doesn’t know how to handle that.
General Kimball and General Doyle share a large living area with the Reds, Blues, and Freelancers, for reasons that Locus can’t quite figure out. Officially, he and Felix belong to Kimball.
Unofficially, they’ve become some sort of strange house mascot.
Locus spends his days sleeping, investigating the house for any pertinent information (there’s very little that’s not stored on a computer), and avoiding Agent Washington with a strange, overwhelming sense of… awkwardness.
Being a dog is… uncomfortable, in many ways. He has a tail, and it wags, without permission. His tongue exits his mouth frequently. He can’t speak to anyone but Felix, although the Simulation Trooper Caboose is fairly good at interpreting what he means.
He gets picked up a lot, and people pet him, and…
He likes it.
That’s perhaps the most concerning part out of all of this.
He likes it.
He likes it all; the taste of dog food, the simplicity of things, the attention, the kindness… Felix mocks him, but Locus finds himself minding less and less as time goes on.
Felix is fighting it tooth and nail, of course. He takes great pains to ensure that he earns his name “Trouble,” breaking into knife drawers, shredding curtains, and trying to trip Tucker down the stairs every chance he gets. He ambushes people first thing in the morning, knocks things off the counter, and generally acts more like a cat than a dog, in Locus’ opinion.
Locus does not assist him in any of these tasks. On occasion, he sits on top of him to prevent Felix from doing anything too ridiculous, although that never lasts long.
Time is difficult to keep track of, although Felix and Locus do try. They figure that they’ve been here about three months, when Agent Washington returns with a furiously squirming dog under his arms.
“I’m starting to think we’ve got a Temple of Dogs around here somewhere,” Washington says dryly, setting the dog down on the ground. The dog looks nothing like a human, but Locus knows instinctively who it is.
Sharkface, recognizing both of them, lets out a roar of fury that comes out as a puppy yelp, and charges at them.
He is, in fact, half Labrador retriever, half Corgi. The sight is so disorienting that Locus nearly allows himself to be knocked over.
Nearly was, of course, the operative word.
“I’m naming this one Terror,” Washington announces.
“Trouble, Tic-Tac, and Terror?” Lavernius Tucker questions.
“They’re an alliterative alliance!” Donut says.
Washington smirks.
Sharkface and Felix tussle on the floor, and Locus watches.
Finally, Sharkface briefs them on the situation, once Felix has gotten him to bark uncle.
He’d apparently had a conversation with the alien A.I. and had learned that the transformation was non-reversible. And then, he’d accidentally been transformed himself. “It’s called the Temple of Second Chances or some bullshit like that,” he says, scratching his ear. “Goddamn, I think I’ve got fleas.”
“Go itch near Dr. Grey, she’ll take care of it,” Felix says. The two of them are familiar enough with the various solutions to dog-related problems by now. Dr. Grey is not quite a veterinarian, but apparently she was a year and an internship away from that particular degree, so she was more qualified than anyone else present. “Well shit.”
Locus isn’t sure what to do now. If they must remain like this…
“I’m going to go lick my balls on Tucker’s bed,” Felix announces, and stalks off. Or well, waddles. Because he’s a corgi.
They all are.
“I’m just shocked they haven’t had you two fixed,” Sharkface says.
“Doctor Grey apparently never took that class in Veterinary School,” Locus says.
Sharkface goes very still, and the two of them think about it for a moment.
“Let’s hope they don’t offer online classes, then.”
Locus would nod his head, but he’s a dog, so instead, his tail wags, in that full-rear-end-wiggle way that Corgis do.
Terror, as it turns out, is definitely Carolina’s dog.
It appears to surprise Terror as much as it does the rest of them—he hates her for a solid forty-eight hours, growling at her and trying to bite her the way that Trouble tries to bite… well, everyone.
They put a muzzle on him for a while, and Kimball gets out the spray bottle.
But they don’t even need to use it, because the next day, they find him curled up on Carolina’s lap, glaring at everyone who passes, as if daring them to comment.
“Seriously?” Felix demands. “I thought you were going to join me on the “let’s trip the Freelancer down the stairs” mission!”
“Fuck off,” Sharkface says. He’s currently being scratched behind the ears.
“Oh my god, you are all boring,” Felix yells.
Kimball squirts him with a water bottle. “Quiet, Trouble,” she scolds.
“I will have my revenge!”
He gets a spray of water straight to the face for his declaration.
Locus stretches carefully as he gets up from the pile of blankets that serve as his bed in the office.
Kimball has fallen asleep at her desk again. Locus should allow her to remain—there are advantages to letting an enemy leader be exhausted, after all. But Locus nudges her, letting out a small bark. She stirs slowly, and Locus props his front paws against her chair and presses his nose against her side and barks again.
“Mmm, Tic-Tac?” She mutters. He lets out a reprimanding whine. She reaches out sleepily and pats him on the head. His tail begins to wag without his permission. He barks again, just to remind her that he will not be placated by pets. “Alright, alright,” she says, scooping him up into her arms. “I’m up.” She squints at him tiredly. “Where’s your partner in crime?”
Felix, Locus knows, has been crated for the night as punishment for biting Caboose. Locus barks, knowing she can’t understand him.
“Probably in trouble again,” she answers her own question. “Well, guess you can stay with me tonight.”
Locus has a bed in the common area, inside a nice little doghouse that Grif had made for him. Felix and Sharkface also have them, but in general, they rarely sleep in them. Felix is crated more nights than not, these days, and Sharkface’s strange attachment to Agent Carolina has yet to abate.
He settles into Kimball’s arms contently, slightly smug at knowing that Felix’s inability to control himself is finally being dealt with. Realizing that they are stuck in these forms is somehow comforting, now that he’s had time to adjust. He no longer has to worry about spying or tactics. He only needs to be a dog. Sure, it’s undignified, but it’s pleasant enough. Felix, however, has only grown more agitated, attempting to do whatever harm he can in Corgi form.
Locus has a dog bed in Kimball’s room, but some nights, when she sets him down on her bed, he stays there to keep her company. He can’t help but feel smug about that—Felix is not allowed on the bed, or any of the furniture, after the first week. He’d left too many scatological presents around for any of them but Caboose to want him in their room for the night.
Attempts at training have proven futile, since Felix was doing it on purpose.
Kimball leaves to prepare for bed, and Locus settles down. He’ll adjust when she gets into bed. He… enjoys cuddling up next to her at night. It’s pleasant.
“This is Midnight,” Carolina says. The dog in her arms is sleek and mostly black, a Rottweiler/Corgi mix. She lounges in Carolina’s arms with a comfort that clearly is irritating Sharkface, and puts Felix on edge. Locus, from his position at Kimball’s feet (the suck up) just watches, curious.
Maybe, Felix thinks hopefully, she’s just a dog, unlike them. Maybe she’s not going to be a threat.
Carolina sets “Midnight” on the ground, and then the dog’s attention snaps right towards them. Keen brown eyes land on them, and then her lips pull back, exposing teeth that are definitely Rottweiler teeth.
She cracks her neck, something Felix hasn’t even realized that dogs could even do.
“Hello cockbites,” she says, and oh shit. He’s heard that voice before, on an old recording from Project Freelancer.
Agent Texas lazily wags her tail, and Felix realizes that they are, in fact, absolutely screwed.

Facial Feminisation With Makeup
Yesterday I mentioned the fact that I’m interested in makeup but don’t post about it because other people aren’t. One person encouraged me to post about makeup anyway, so I’m going to make this one post about a particularly interesting aspect of makeup: That by reemphasising certain features, it can correct for a bit of sexual dimorphism.
This is basically just a list of a bunch of techniques I’ve fiddled around with, so it’s not superduper systematic. Also, I’m not, like, good at makeup. I like makeup and can apply it precisely enough to try a bunch of stuff, but I am not an expert even a little and have used a very restricted range of products.
(Note 1: Doing my makeup doesn’t make it hard for me to recognise masculine features in the mirror, because it just changes what features stand out, while I know what I’m looking for. As such, it might not help with body dysphoria? No clue, since IDK what body dysphoria feels like from the inside. It seems to help with passing, though, which is what I’ve cared enough about to learn about.)
(Note 2: In a lot of places, I say “women typically look like X; men typically look like Y”. This is meant to mean that the average man and woman look this way, and since most people are cis, that’s fairly gender dimorphic. I use this phrasing on the assumption that, if you’re reading this, you’re mostly interested in shifting your appearance toward the female average, rather than getting people to have more woke perceptions of male and female.
If you want to learn more about sexual dimorphism in faces, you should check out this site. I read through it at 13 when considering whether transitioning seemed worthwhile (to assess how hard it would be to hide sexual dimorphism to a passable degree), and I highly recommend it as a starting point.)
Before you begin, you should make sure you have:
Apparatus: A mirror; a sink; at least one soft, smooth sponge; lots of tissues for wiping away your mistakes.
Makeup: Lipstick or lipgloss; foundation (that matches your skin); concealer; highlighter and contour; eyeliner and mascara.
Consumables: Soap; moisturiser; a long, narrow hair accessory like a thin, folded scarf; patience.
Once you have all your shit together, you should wash your face. Definitely try to clean out your pores before applying foundation and after removing it. Make sure to shave reasonably closely after washing, and (optionally) pluck your eyebrows if you’re up for that.
Then just put on your foundation. If you don’t know how to do that, it’s basically just dabbing some foundation around your face and then blending it in with your sponge until your skin has a smooth complexion. I generally go for a very light coat of foundation, but you have to choose what suits your skin. Next, you can start doing stuff about specific facial features.
Lips: Women’s lips are typically fuller than men’s, but not quite as wide. If you want to feminise your lips, your goal is to make them stand out more (particularly in the centre), to increase that apparent fullness.
Lipstick or lipgloss is a must for this. You want your lips to be more reflective, since that tricks the brain into perceiving them as bigger. You particularly want to make the middle of the lips brighter (typically by using more lipgloss there) in order to draw attention away from the corners of the mouth, which may be longer than desired.
Meanwhile, you might want to increase the apparent vertical size of the lips by extending your lipstick to more of your lip line, but making this look natural requires concealing said lip line. Regular old concealer will probably do the trick, but I have to admit that afro lips are shaped significantly differently to other people’s, so I can’t speak from experience on what’ll work for 99% of this blog’s readership. Maybe try consulting this guide.
Facial Hair: Most women just don’t have this to any notable degree. You want to give as little indication as possible that you grow facial hair. While shaving is by far the most important part of this, you can do even better.
Shaved faces typically have a hint of darkness in the places where hair grows. This is less dark immediately after a shave, but still slightly discoloured compared to the rest of the skin. Here you just want to apply concealer until it’s the same shade as the skin around it. Make sure to also get underneath your chin! Even if you didn’t put foundation down there, I’d recommend using a little concealer.
Cheeks/Jawline: Women’s facial structure is typically more rounded than men’s. As such, you want to decrease any perceptions of blockiness or right angles. This means creating an illusion where it seems like your underlying bone structure is more curved/rounded.
You can do this to some extent using highlights and contours. Highlights increase the reflectiveness of your skin, while contours decrease it. While concealer makes an area less visually notable by evening out the colour, contours make the area less eye-catching by making it reflect less light. Thus, it works in combination with highlighting to make some things pop and others recede, allowing for all sorts of subtle reshaping.
I would recommend applying highlighter in long, curved strokes along the cheekbones and the jawline. You don’t want to actually trace the cheeks or jaw, but to draw arcs with exaggerated roundness. You then want to contour a little below your cheekbone-highlighter (also curved), and the corners of your jaw (below your jaw-highlighter). Then just blend it all together to make your face seem more rounded. (FTR: “blending” is just when you take the sponge and dab your makeup in to even it out.)
Nose: Women’s noses are typically thinner and shorter than men’s. I’m afraid I don’t have a ton of advice on making it seem shorter (sorry), but you can definitely make it appear somewhat thinner.
Just apply a line of highlighter on the bridge and centre-line, while contouring the edges, before blending together. This will make the centre of the nose more reflective/prominent, while drawing attention away from how wide it is. It’s the same trick we did with the lips!
Eyes: Women’s eyes are typically slightly larger than men’s, relative to the rest of the face, and also have longer eyelashes. Interestingly enough, despite the phyiscal difference being relatively small, a study in Canada (that I unfortunately couldn’t find with a quick Google) found that the size of the eyes had one of the largest effects in flipping people’s gender perception for a given face. So, basically, you want to make your eyes stand out.
Luckily, this is already the main goal of existing eye beauty techniques, so most tutorials on doing your eyes will do well here. Just do your eyeliner and mascara as recommended. The only extra advice I would give would be to increase the reflectiveness of your eyelids to draw attention from the brow ridge (which is prominent in most men and largely absent in most women).
Forehead and hairline: The sex differences in forehead and hairline are reasonably complex and fascinating. Firstly, women tend to have low corners and a high middle for their hairline, while male hairlines tend to dip down in the middle to form a bit of an M shape. Secondly, men’s foreheads tend to slope backward slightly. Thirdly, male foreheads tend to be just plain wider (vertically) than female ones. (Besides that, there’s the brow stuff that was discussed under ‘eyes’.)
Thankfully, at least for the three problems identified above, there’s a simple and easy solution: Tie an accessory right below the highest point of the hairline. It shouldn’t obscure too much of the forehead, but just enough to make it seem shorter, cover the middle-dip in the hairline, and hide the backward slope. Personally, I tie a bandana there, but a thick ribbon or a narrow scarf would likely also work for this.
And that’s basically it! Any of these things individually should do some good for how people read you (especially the stuff for the eyes and the forehead/hairline). Additional things to consider:
While you should avoid caking on makeup to the point where it looks like you have something to hide, you shouldn’t be too afraid to let people see that your makeup is makeup. Tasteful makeup, but not completely invisible, so that people notice. This affects people’s higher-level gendering system by increasing the likelihood that you’re a woman, since most people who wear makeup are women. (The reverse of some of the above procedures should help transguys look more masc, but they should definitely aim to hide the fact that they’re wearing makeup if they want to be read correctly.)
Wearing makeup that’s not the right shade for your skin can be disastrous by making you look distorted or unnatural. It also means the feminisation is less likely to work, since the point is for someone who’s doing a first-pass gender read to sort you into the “female” box and move on. Looking really weird may lead them to pay more attention. To make sure you have a good colour match, you should directly compare your hand to the makeup colour. (Stuff typically comes with a label with the colour on it.)
There are other sexually dimorphic facial features. However, I only tried to write about the ones that I have working makeup solutions (or at least palliatives) for. Some things I just don’t know how to do yet and will require more experimentation and maybe getting advice from other people. However, when I do figure out how to do something, I’ll try to tell Tumblr.
If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area and can visit me in the mid-peninsula (and bring your own product), I can do your makeup for you + give advice on how to do your own makeup. Not professionally (for one thing, I pretty much only put makeup onto myself, and haven’t worked with white skin), but with a bunch of intuitions for what you might want to do with your face, so giving you a more specific idea of what to work on than just reading this post. Also, if you’re the kind of person who read this post and thought “I want to talk to her more about makeup”, then you’re the kind of person I want to talk to too.
