obviously people steal things from other people it's one of the oldest tricks in the book but it still always surprises me to learn that people plagiarise because my introduction to the concept was basically being told that if i ever plagiarised anything i would be executed by firing squad and my head would be removed and displayed on a spike outside the walls of the hallowed academic institution i was attending as a warning to others

The state of affairs in Palestine, 10/23/23
Conditions on the ground in Gaza continue to deteriorate. Gaza has no fuel, electricity, or clean water, and it remains under constant bombardment.
Humanitarian aid is beginning to make its way through the Rafah border crossing (Gaza's border with Egypt) but the current quantity is completely insufficient. There have been two convoys. The first convoy of 20 trucks contained enough water for 22,000 people, or ~1% of Gaza's population, for a single day. It's unclear what was in the second convoy, but it only had 17 trucks.
Israel continues to gear up for a ground invasion of Gaza. It's unclear what exactly they will do or what the end result will be, to the point that the US is calling on Israel to publicize its goals.
In the meantime, Israel has aggressively increased its air bombardment of Gaza. [CW for the header image on the red link: wounded young girl] This, along with the lack of fuel and supplies, is causing the complete collapse of the Gaza hospital system.
There is a very real risk of further escalation of the war. Israel has repeatedly raided and airstriked the West Bank and targets in Syria, continuously exchanged volleys with Hezbollah on the Israeli border with Lebanon, and hit the Egyptian border (allegedly by accident).
Protests around the world are rallying to bring attention and support to the Palestinian cause.

The bison.
I know this seems like old news to a lot of people but Americans slaughtered the bison to further the genocide of the indigenous peoples (who are still here) and despite that the bison have been reintroduced.
they have returned to their native grazing grounds, the ecosystems where they have returned are flourishing for it. and to top it all off it was the peoples this government tried so desperately to erradiacte that brought them back.
the day I heard Bison had been reintroduced to the plains I sobbed like a baby and began to choose hope.
!!!! The recovery of the bison is something I've been following and it's been such a source of hope and and sign healing for me!!
Especially tribally managed reintroductions and herds!!
Really impossible to understate how much of an ecological and and humanitarian and ethical tragedy and atrocity is finally beginning to be healed

JOHN: why do they always show cranberries in those big pits and it's implied it's wet and possibly swimmable. do cranberries really grow like that. what.
ROSE: You've never heard of The Bog?
JOHN: th. the what?
ROSE: Hm. I forget some people don't understand New England.
JOHN: each additional comment you add makes my blood run cold.
ROSE: Well, then, yes, cranberries grow in large clumps called bogs. Once they're ripe, the bog is flooded and the cranberries are harvested, basically by using big floating nets to round them all up and scooping them out of the water.
JOHN: ok thank you. i hate it a little less. the horrible little man in my head is still screaming "BOG BODY BOG BODY BOG BODY", but i appreciate the education.
ROSE: Additionally, you don't just flood the bog and then go around it in a boat, or whatever. No, you use hip waders to get in there and put the big floating nets where they go and get all the berries and such.
ROSE: And many cranberry farms opt for organic or sustainable pest control methods, one of which is encouraging wolf spiders to live in the cranberry field and eat the bugs to keep insect damage down.
JOHN: wait.
ROSE: And, well, when you're in the bog in hip waders, that makes you the tallest thing. Wolf spiders can swim a bit, but they don't like it, so they are, quite understandably, looking to climb out of the water onto a tall thing. So you will probably have, like, a hundred wolf spiders trying to climb your eyebrows. You have to be chill, though, because the spiders are also employees.
ROSE: If you ever want to go wading in a cranberry bog, just make sure you're cool with spiders.
JOHN: ...i want you to know, really truly know, that "make sure you're cool with spiders" is not a specific enough statement for that situation.

Dark Jason Grace: Justice may prove otherwise. But you are not me. You can't hide from me, you can't best me and the fates know you could never replace me.
Jupiter: Jason, you must stop this madness. We have a deal for you, let us end this.
Dark Jason: laughs We're sitting in Olympus and I have the power to put you down like a dog. No deal could ever protect you, from me.

Don’t. Don’t minimise the role the BBC has played in this genocide. I know you’re American and have no concept of what public services are supposed to be like. But the BBC is the national broadcaster. You expect the tabloid press to be amoral but not the BBC. Yet it’s the BBC that has sacked journalists for speaking in support of Gaza. Their headlines and reporting have been as bad as Sky News. They were a major player in the press campaign to create permission for Israel’s invasion. That campaign inflamed public perception to the point that people accepted the mass slaughter of non-combatants, including children. The high public trust they had before this made their reporting more effective and their actions even more reprehensible. It’s so bad people are boycotting and refusing to pay their TV licences in protest.
To be clear by saying they weren't worse than other outlets I definitely didn't mean they weren't ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE and utterly complicit in manufacturing consent for and enabling and perpetuating genocide and genocidal idealogies- as an American Jew it is just hard for me to imagine any outlet being more harmful than the NYT, which is here broadly considered THE reliable, objective, and allegedly liberal news resource despite a century plus of constant virulent zionist propaganda directly funded by the literal architects of the zionist state- but you are correct that I don't understand the cultural implications of the BBC being a publicly funded outlet. And I absolutely support boycotting them financially. But I stand by saying that cancelling everyone who has had any form of professional contract with any of their outlets or departments is unreasonable, and unlikely to be applied evenly. I've yet to see anyone cancelling Nick Grimshaw🤔and more to the point, just as there is no ethical consumption under capitalism (no matter how hard you might try, you will be forced to buy things that fund harm somewhere in the chain) there's little to no ethical WORK under capitalism. You can minimize harm, and there are some choices that are inexcusable, but you can't cancel every celeb who deals with any department of the primary media outlet in their country without opting out of following celeb culture entirely- which isn't a horrible idea, but not, I think, a step that anyone in this fandom is actually taking. If someone was actively involved in that reporting or if there was an actual organized public call to boycott the entire BBC that someone was violating, sure, but for simply producing content for their entertainment wing in the absence of that? I think it's a reach.
