Good lord do I have opinions overall my opinion is that I love him but if we wanna go further ok so- SPOILERS UNDERNEATH

Ok so I may be reading too much into it, but it's interesting how he seems to connect with Susie so much (and vice versa even), while his arguable 'counterpart' Spamton connects with Kris.

Something-something... Spamton and Tenna are similar but Spam is actually more dubious while Tenna, who obviously does bad shit himself is arguably more sympathetic in his goals (i mean at least he's not trying to take Kris's soul)

Despite that, Kris connects with the more dubious one, while Susie connects with the more sympathetic one does this have something to do with Kris actually being a dubious motherfucker who may or may not be working with the Knight and working with Carol while Susie is clearly the more purehearted heroic protagonist HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Anyways

I like Tenna a lot, out of all the main bosses he's the most tragic, it's interesting how he fits the role of a SECRET BOSS (like Jev and Spam) way more, but just like how the church dark world got 'flipped' when Susie made it, it seems when Kris made THIS fountain the entire SCRIPT got flipped. Tenna, the secret-boss-coded one, became the main boss, while... UMM. AHEM. THE FUCKING KNIGHT ITSELF is the supposed 'secret boss' WHILE BEING (ONE OF) THE MAIN ANTAGS HELLO.

Tenna is the closest to Kris, but for some reason Kris is kind of cold towards him? Or acts strangely at least. Someone called him a 'parasocial family member' and it actually fits haha, he witnessed kris and asriel grow up, partially raised them you could argue (original ipad kids-), witnessed the family break up and felt the fallout.

His design is really simple and you could argue anticlimactic and too similar to Spam, but his spritework and animation more than makes up for it and makes him an instant icon.

It's interesting how both him and Spam are connected with Mettaton, hell they both even feature a shooting mechanic, Tenna even does a cooking show just like Mettaton did. It feels like since in this universe, Mettaton doesn't get his desired form/body, so he's reliant on fantasy twice as much. I'm happy he gets Tenna but also damn I'm gonna miss seeing Tenna in our hometown... although who knows maybe his sprites take up a lot of work haha

What is sad to think about is how he witnessed the Dreemurr family drama, but doesn't know they divorced maybe??? He didn't know Asriel went to college, so imagine he gets plugged in, turned on again in AGES and comes back thinking everyone is still there somewhere, but they're all actually gone now. Although he probably surmises it, he's keeping Toriel in a gotchy-ball-induced-coma after all-

It's sad to think of him as like,, the unknown babysitter of Kris and Asriel, watching them grow up and entertaining them, genuinely having fun doing so when he's all 'remember when you used to voice over the cooking channel' I think he genuinely looks back on that fondly, like he was a playmate, and slowly the family falls apart and he gets shut down, turns on again after ages and suddenly it's only Toriel and Kris who is clearly not themselves, won't laugh or smile like how they might have used to. Hmmmmm.....

He's entertaining, he's got all the Toby-Fox-Writing-Quirks on point, the meme potential is ungodly and his scene with Spam actually feels unreal I can't describe it it was so jusHGAHSAHAHA LOVE LOSES.

Hiii! Just wanted to say that while waiting for the last update of Beyond Repair (which was delicious btw, I can't wait to see the conversation that follows THAT Cliff hanger, i need those two to communicate for once in their narratively-doomed lives please) I was craving more of your writing and I kind of binge read all your spamton fics and by goodness you have some of the best fics in this fandom and your way of writing the DR cast is genuinely perfect.

I never thought i'd get invested in the relationship between the addisons and spamton but GOD you build it up so well,,,,all that resentment and jealousy and regret and what-ifs… it's so cool to see a take where both parties are in the wrong and they both know it (in beyond repair it hurts even more bc thye dont even get a chance to try and reconnect and it hurts wenwefjw). I love how you use all the in-game details that you can, even the fact that the addisons were turned around while thye explained the spamton lore in ch2. and ngl im. obsessed. with the Dynamic you gave spamton and jevil in the Keeping Neo AU and the separate jevil fic. Jevil has such a specific speech quirk and personality yet you capture that chaotic gremlin energy he has mixed with that eerie sadness and vagueness that makes him such an enigma but so so fun to witness in action. He doesn't seem easy to write but you keep him so true to canon in the way he speaks and acts. also I know theyre platonic in the fics you've written but I cannot deny that the spamvil shipper in me is THRIVING with those interactions, 10/10, spinning those two besties in my head until the end of time, do not separate them (they will cause untold mayhem and destruction but theyre very cute and it makes jevil happy so i forgive them).

Anyways, i also cannot get enough of Beyond Repair, the way you keep the characters' voices and personalities feels so true to the original material and it's such a blessing to see such a Good fic portraying the spamtenna partnership showing both characters' faults and yearnings, instead of being too sympathetic to either of them. I especially love the adamant denial Tenna has throughout the fic, it's the mix of tragic and funny that perfectly suits his carácter?? Yeah, the guy who seems to not notice/care that Mike is three separate people with no resemblance at all among them and different from the Mike that was there when spamton was around WOULD definitely be able to reach that level of denial. And spamton??? You probably write my fav iteration of his speech quirk and your commitment to make it a fundamental part of his character (ad breaks making him hard to understand to other people, him questioning his identity after writing without ad breaks in the keeeping neo au, etc etc) is sooo appreciated. Lately I've seen a lot of black-and-White thinking with spamton in socmedia, with people reacting against the ch2 "woobification" by treating him like an embodiment of everything evil in the world and the true villain of the game (some even blaming him solely for the weird route, somehow) or some sort of irredeemable demon from birth, so seeing a true appreciation of his character in your fics, where you do not shy away from his narcissim, selfishness and BIG flaws nor his tragic existence and fate, is such a breath of fresh air. ESPECIALLY in a spamtenna story lol

Either way sorry for babbling but tldr ive been obsessing over all your fics lately, you've irrevocably converted me into spamtenna and spamvil and thank you so much for your passsion and great Works, your commitment to keeping some of the silliness and charm of the original game and keep it as canon-faithful as possible is super engaging and beautiful. ill be eagerly awaiting the next chapters of beyond repair that will cause me incredible emotional pain and joy in equal amounts. all the love and support to you!!

FIRST AAAAA idk what to say im so beyond flattered bc writing these guys gives me sm joy and im happy like even tho my old fics are sorta outdated now (alas the passing times in the deltarune fandom), ppl still go back to them?? like 2021 me would be going as insane as i am rn

jevil like spamton was rlly difficult to write at first but the more i did it the more his speech kinda flowed like he has this cryptic poetic style to him that's so so fun to meddle with and yknow i forgot about my solo jevil fic but ive had the next chapter in wip stage for god knows how long lol i should?? upload that sometime maybe. he just rlly likes his chaos :3 luckily for him spamton is uncontrollable to even himself, he's a danger to himself and others, whether intentional or not, he has motivations but he's so unstable and jevil gets an kick out of it bc nothing matters. throw neo into the mix and it just becomes a party at that point

tenna is also so interesting and im so glad someone pointed out about he's oblivious to the Mikes, but also bc he seems to get in his own head a bunch, it's how he copes with it all, and this is also how he tries to help kris through the divorce. just keep their eyes on him and keep them distracted enough to pretend that nothing is going on. not saying he can't accept the reality of things, in fact he does all too well! but like isn't it BETTER to just stay distracted with TV? after all you can learn anything from tv! tie this character aspect into the fact he's been missing his special little mailman for years, giving him this importance and this pedestal and this image that's big enough to shirk his own blame onto for the loss of his show and eventual irrelevance. with this i feel like it'd take a lot to break that barrier of denial if he was wrong and it had all been for nothing, which i tried to get into when writing. man i miss tenna

i don't have twitter or tiktok or instagram or rlly anything except tumblr, and im kinda glad i don't bc of the reverse-woobification like ppl are straight up forgetting that spamton is so complex bc idk i think a lot of ppl like to categorize characters into black and white boxes bc they're written so dynamic and ppl literally cannot comprehend the grey areas, or the in-betweens, or they don't care enough to comprehend it bc it's all about consuming the next piece of media. it's insane and i hope my lil fic at least defends against that whole thing lmao but tbh i think ill just stay here in my lil tumblr bubble where ppl are at least kinda cool and treat him sillay still. spamton is my favorite character of all time BECAUSE he's a horrible narcissistic selfish asshole but also bc he's legitimately hurting and desperately wants to become something more than he is. his whole entire purpose after his defeat is helping the lightners free themselves from their own strings bc he doesn't want to see his friends go down the same path he did with neo and what part of that speaks pure evil for ppl on socmedia? i don't get it ;v; imagine ur whole life crumbles and everything u worked for meant nothing. then there's these sweet kids that u tried to just kill and they're going down the same path. he switches to helper mode so fast and that says so much about him even WITH all his selfishness. love him fr

Undertale & Deltarune Drabbles: Frisk & Chara & SpamTenna - Once We Convince One Of Them

Summary: Frisk and Chara encounter Tenna and Spamton in the Trash Zone.

[A/N] And thus I'm officially doing Deltarune drabbles too, yay! I wanted to try writing UT Spamtenna because I'm very intrigued by the AU's potential. I did it in drabble form because it's low stakes and makes it easier to put less pressure on myself to do it right, more wriggle room and whatnot. I've seen a few people have UT Spamton speak in letters as his text quirk. That's what I went with here. I don't know if it works as well in a fic instead of a comic so I might change it if I decide to write more for them (which I am very open to, especially if anyone were to request anything ;) ) or I might keep it and just let it be a little awkward. (And maybe one day I will be brave enough to try writing his Deltarune form with that weirdass text quirk of his.) I am also experimenting with Tenna going by he/it in the AU because I've been vibing quite a bit with writing characters who use multiple pronouns. It's fun and there should be more representation for that kind of thing.

At the bottom, I included the artwork I made for UT Spamtenna. In part to give a clear picture of how I'm picturing them, if you want it, but also it because of how much I liked how that pieced turned out that prompted me to also want to write them.

Also, mild content warning, I wanted to mostly explore the Pacifist Route encounter with them but also put some thought into the Murder Route and thus Frisk has a flashback about that in this. It's not particularly graphic but it is there.

“The dump,” Frisk said out loud in a whisper as they stood up and brushed themself off. “Who all we gotta make up to here?” Not that they could ever really make up for killing so many people but they could pretend by being super-duper nice and befriending anyone who would let them do so. It’s not like anyone remembered that they’d been murdered anyway, not even Flowey seemed to. So it was almost like it was all a bad dream and none of it had ever happened

‘The TV thing, its weird looking small friend, and the dummy that was happy for some reason,’ Chara replied.

Frisk nodded before stepping off the flower bed and into the water. It was too murky to see through and quite cold as it found its way into her shoes – it’s not like their socks had had time to dry though so it was just a renewed discomfort. The fact that it was flowing, though slowly, hopefully meant it wasn’t too, too foul. Still it was probably best not to think about it.

They continued forward, making their way around heaps of garbage. Unlike last time, there was no urge to go out of their way to examine any of it. The Soul’s desire to have them look at everything hadn’t seemed odd at the time but in retrospect was quite strange. Why was something curious enough to desire an examination of each individual pile of garbage also so intent on mass murder? It was dead now so Frisk would never get to ask. Not that any answer it might’ve given would’ve likely made much sense anyway as the ‘mass murder’ part of that equation was inherently not something that could have a logical explanation.

Rounding the corner revealed large piles of trash to either side, creating a narrow tunnel for several feet. Attempts to make it look like the trash had piled like that naturally had been made but were unconvincing. Upon nearing the halfway point of the tunnel, the TV thing stepped out to block the way.

Even when leaning on the cane that was too short for it, it was tall. It’s broken TV face loomed over Frisk as they slowed to a stop in front of it. A crack ran through its smile, making it hard to read as anything other than menacing. All the rust and missing half its arm, didn’t help its general appeal.

“Greetings!” A loud showman’s voice underlain with slight static. “Welcome to the Trash Zone! A land of…” It (he maybe?) cut off as it went rigid. Something inside him clicked and whirred as he processed something. “Wait! Wait a minute! You’re a human!” The showmanship of whatever con it had been about to try was gone from its tone, leaving a raw emotion in its wake that Frisk couldn’t place.

This is where Frisk had attacked last time. They’d given its good leg a solid kick, knocking it into the water with a heavy splash. Before they could finish it off, its friend had jumped out to attack. It had been a valiant attempt to save the TV thing but he would’ve been better off staying hidden. After killing him, they’d bashed the TV’s head in with its own cane. They’d kept it as a weapon after.

There was no urge or compulsion, coming from themself or the long gone Soul, to repeat those actions but Frisk’s body still remembered what they had felt like. The way kicking the TV thing hard enough to knock him down had sent a painful jolt through their leg. The weight of the cane as they’d snatched it up out of the water. Smashing the little guy with it as he’d tried to dance away, perhaps an attempt to pull Frisk into a chase. The sound of shattering glass as they smashed the TV, three solid hits for good measure.

‘Want me to take control for a bit?’ Chara’s voice was a whisper in their mind, cutting through those awful sounds.

Yes, please. This wasn’t their first time getting stuck in a memory from before the big Reset. It probably wasn’t going to be the last either.

“Yep, I’m human,” Chara said with a smile. Not their evil one but the nice one.

The TV’s smile widened. “I haven’t seen a human in…” it wilted, “a long time. A long, long time. I don’t… remember how long. I should know that shouldn’t I? Why don’t I know that?” He trailed off, seemingly staring off into the distance. Suddenly he burst back into motion, smiling wide again. “But you’re here now! A real life human! Wow!”

“Yep, wow, indeed. May I go past?”

“Oh well,” he looked around as if just now realizing he was blocking the way. “I was supposed to… but you’re a human! I was created to entertain humans. Are you sure you don’t want to stay and…”

A fake cough interrupted it. The strange little guy with the pink and yellow glasses had crawled out of wherever he’d been hiding to stand atop one of the trash piles, allowing him to look down at Frisk and the TV. “Dear Tenna, I hate to interrupt but if this really is a human. A human with a human soul. This could be our big break. Our chance to make it, big, BIG. Don’t you wanna be BIG? Yours truly, Spamton.”

Tenna – cute name for a TV robot thing – froze again, its processing of those words audible as whirring inside its chest.“Oh! You mean we should kill them and take their soul. Either for ourselves or to break the Barrier and free all of monster kind.”

Spamton grimaced down at him in silence for a few seconds before replying. “Dearest Tenna, don’t say it where they can hear! I suppose its too late now. Whatever, we’re gonna kill them anyway. Signing off, Spamton.”

Tenna hesitated for a moment before looking back down at Frisk and Chara. “Sorry human. Now’s not the time for fun and games. We need your soul.”

‘Don’t worry,’ Chara said internally as they stepped back into a battle stance. ‘Once we convince one of them to be friendly with us, I’m sure the other will follow. My bet’s on the TV being easier to befriend.’

3. What was the first thing you decided on, name, appearance, personality, or role?

For all of my secret boss ocs, the first thing I came up with had to be the role. I knew I was making a character to fill the niche of Spamton or Jevil in a chapter take (in Elymas's case, chapter 4, which I still believe will take place in the church), and thus went from there.

I know it still took me some brainstorming though, I don't think I really got an idea for what I wanted until @parakeetlover3 suggested something on my Discord server when I was talking about Chapter 4 take ideas. I think they had pitched the idea of some dove/crow and a broken ring, which then eventually became Elymas.

19. What is your general favorite thing about the character? What is your least favorite?

I love SO MUCH about Elymas. I think some of the things I love the most are their personality and design. They're such a pompous little prick of a bird, who's so entitled and full of themself, despite being a tiny little bird thing who holds no power whatsoever. It's the same sense of pompousness that makes me like Spamton I think, the kind that makes you want to see them get punched. It makes Elymas and Britni's dynamic really fun.

And their design is something I'm VERY proud of. Being a seraph, I needed to find a way to incorporate 6 wings into the design, which I think I did well. Two are their arms, two on their back, and two covering the eyes. The ones covering their eyes also plays into the blinded false prophet. Not to mention their broken halo forming horns, or the addition of purple after the "gasterification" turning their dove like look into more of a crow.

As for my least favorite thing about the character... Either their text quirk or their lore. Elymas's text quirk certainly isn't as difficult to write for compared to Spamton or Bitsy, it's really just them talking in ye old English (better that Rouxls at least), but I think that's part of my issue. Doesn't really feel like a text quirk, and is more just their way of speaking. Not sure I'd change it, but I think if it was in an actual game, then it'd be in a different font than other characters.

For lore, considering how still underdeveloped my chapter 4 take is, and will likely continue to be, Elymas's lore is currently restrained to just involve them. With Bitsy I've been able to incorporate more characters and flesh out her lore more, which I really enjoy, but I just don't have enough of my Chapter 4 take to do that for Elymas.

Can you dissect a bit about what is it that you like about deltarune, in its essence?

Oh god I can TRY!!! I mean to be honest, I've loved Toby Fox's musical work since I was into HOMESTUCK, so the first and largest fucking slice of that chart has to be THE MUSIC!! I am. A really really music oriented person, I spend most of my 40 hour work week listening to and being insane about music while I work, and the UT/DR soundtracks are up there with like... The Nier Automata soundtrack for me for sheer listen-ability. The music is SOOOO well composed and evocative and also does so much character storytelling which just makes you THINK EVEN MORE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS! AS YOU LISTEN TO IT!

Which of course leads into the second- the character writing!!! This has been true since Undertale (if you're new here, I was a HUGE OG UNDERTALE FAN DURING ITS PEAK IN AROUND 2016!!) but Toby has just like.... really incredible, subtle, grounded character writing that really comes through in such interesting ways. He has a really strong ability to like. Take a silly concept for a character and make you really sit with them. Think about them. Empathize with them. On a surface level most of his characters have a really fun personality or gimmick or quirk- she's a dinosaur bully! he's a walking encyclopedia! they're a quiet blank slate!- that makes getting to know them feel fun and easy, but then you start to dig into the subtext of each character's real interiority, what makes them tick, what realistic flaws and fears and struggles they might have- all done through like. subtle details hidden throughout the game, things you can miss. Secrets that make you want to dig further into the game.

On a higher level it's that level of secret information that like seals the whole deal and makes my brain go crazy!!! Because even outside of fandom I think this game is such an incredibly made piece of art FOR HOW it is played and engaged with. Deltarune like undertale really like.... interacts with the idea of fandom in such a hands on, call is coming from inside the house way. I mean you can't be raised in the school of Homestuck and NOT walk out with that, but it’s such a like.... I dunno. The way Toby buries secrets in his game as like a second level of play for the player base, to come together and share information and theory craft online, is so unique and fun. The Mike fight is just this little piece of bonus content, a silly bonus boss fight, but the way that fight lovingly nods to huge prevalent intermission theories is so charming. You know? The act of piecing together this puzzle as chapters come out, watching theories get confirmed and killed, very much seems like something that Toby is INTENTIONALLY making part of the experience of the game. I think some creators could see something like the response to Undertale, which had such insane like lore speculation to such a degree, and get scared? Back off from hiding more easter eggs in the game because it might encourage that kind of behavior? But Toby went and made an ARG in a fucking spamton infomercial. Thats so fun. I love it so much????

Spamton x reader thoughts

-Spamton has to warm up to even starting to date. When he crushes on you, he doubts if you’d even like him. If you approach him first, he’s afraid that you:

 Big Shot Era: want to use him for money or power

 Downfall Era:  just pity him

 He has a bit of trust issues, and he’s worried he won’t be a good lover. Give him a little bit of time though and he’ll decide that he’d like to try a relationship with you.

-He puts a lot of work into the first several dates. He wants to look and act his best. He frets a lot about taking you on dates and not just you taking him, and to give you good experiences.  -Eventually he won’t be so nervous, and is okay with more casual dates like just hanging out together. He still makes an effort to treat you well and surprise you with dates often, though. He wants you to feel special.

-He barely has any lips, certainly can’t close them over his teeth. So it’s a little hard for him to kiss you on the traditional way. He sure tries his best though, and tries gently pressing his teeth around your lips

-He actually really likes to “kiss” you by softly clicking his teeth against you (it’s more like little nips). Anytime you cuddle, he starts nuzzling and nipping.

-His speech quirks come out most when he’s nervous. So when he’s crushing on you, his speech is very jumbled. When he’s known you long enough that he feels safe with you, more of his speech is normal.

-When you fluster him, he has a hard time responding, and might make noises like beeps or whistles.

-So incredibly touch starved, and touch is something he craves anyways. The littlest touches will have him melting against you.

-He can easily fall asleep if you cuddle him or pet his back. He’s a light sleeper though, so expect that he’ll startle awake at the littlest things.

-Actually, how easily Spamton sleeps next to you is a great indicator of how safe he feels with you. Once he comes to trust you, he’ll seek you out to sleep near you and can sleep more soundly.

-Compliment him and you’ll see him light up. He enjoys the praise. Lay it on thick to render him blushy and speechless.

-He calls you a lot of odd nicknames for a while, unsure of how to actually call you anything sweet. Eventually he figures out what sticks for him, and what gets a reaction from you. Some personal favorites of his are Angel, My Light, Sweetheart/Sweet Thing. 

-He tends to resist any offer of help, as he believes he needs to earn everything for himself. But with things he feel aren’t earned, he asks you for help (disguised as business). He’ll let you help him, though, if you can offer something for him to help you with.

-He wants to treat you right, he wants to dazzle you and give you everything you want and more, wants you swooning at his feet. So he does all he can to achieve that. And he gets insecure and embarrassed when he realizes he’s not all that.

-He does everything he can to comfort you when you’re upset. He hugs you, tries to distract you with something fun, gives you (cryptic) advice, gives you anything he thinks will help. He hates to see you upset.

Funny Opinions under the cut:

If I have any advice it would be to focus less on the character's "catchphrases" and moreso on the way that they speak

If you notice, I don't commonly use "Kromer/Big Shot" for Spamton or "I can do anything!" for Jevil

I feel like with a lot of Toby's characters, if you get too caught up on their most identifiable gimmicks or phrases, it can make you miss out on the specific quirks of their actual Voice, which can make it difficult to try and emulate in your own work

Just try and speak in the character's voice without using those catchphrases. Focus more on getting the feeling of their actual speech first, and then begin reincorporating them into their speech

I also try to make it a point to stick to what is explicitly presented in canon as much as possible. (This is harder with Jevil due to how little screentime he gets (@toby, you better show some love to my clown before the game ends) but still, I try to align as close as I can)

For Spamton specifically, I think it's important to keep in mind that he's like. Kind of a sleezy self absorbed asshole. I think a lot of fanworks tend to focus on the more pitiable side of his character and don't bring enough attention to the fact that he is willing to and does in fact do terrible things for his own personal gain.

You have to be willing to let Spamton be kind of a shitty, selfish guy. He's a victim for sure, but he's not an entirely blameless victim of circumstance. And I think if you ignore that, you'll lose a really critical piece of his character.

Also he's really vulgar. He says a lot of fuckwords. any spamton sentence can be made better by adding more fuckwords

Jevil is harder. It's mostly just feeling it out personally, I feel like I don't have a super great grasp on it myself, but I stick to the general "mysticism" of his voice as a baseline. Until we get more Jevil Content I'll always feel like my specific interpretation is a little more off the mark than I'd like, but I do my best.

I always try and write his dialogue with the idea that he knows more than he lets on, (even me, the writer) but the logic he uses is entirely unique to him. The language he uses is vague and nonsensical, but that's not intentional on his part. He understands it perfectly, and that's all he needs. If you don't understand it, that's not something he concerns himself with.

ok this got very long for this blog’s standards but it was a lot of fun to write! i only stopped it when i did to keep it somewhat short, i could probably write a part 2 of this if there’s interest. here u go:

you’re just cutting through an alley to dodge the crowd, and of all the people you were expecting to meet today -

“spamton?”

you recognize him immediately; how could you not? he’s changed a lot, but it’s undeniable: the short stature you had always found so charming, the dirtied messy hair (with sad vague suggestions of attempting to slick back or style) that he’d dyed black sometime around everything happening, those weird-ass glasses you recall from ad posters that had depicted a stranger you’d used to be so familiar with. you used to know spamton so well, and then it felt like you didn’t know him at all, and then it felt like nobody ever knew him — and here he is before you, the opposite of everything he was becoming when you broke off. digging through a trash can like a raccoon and muttering to himself about kromer and phone calls.

of course, not a moment after you say his name, his head snaps up and he ejects himself from the bin, as if you might not notice he was ever in there if he distances himself quick enough. his face is panic-stricken — is that just the face of a former success story humiliated to be seen at such a low point, or the face of someone startled to see his past lover? does he even recognize you?

“spamton,” you repeat, approaching him.

after a short pause, probably registering your presence, spamton takes only an instant to shake the deer in headlights look in favor of an overzealous salesman persona that would be painfully familiar to you if he wasn’t playing it so… oddly. it’s adjacent to the “big shot” that had been too “big” for little old you, but so, so off. it’s kind of unnerving, kind of sad; he’s not unlike a broken child’s toy.

“WELL WELL [Well]!!!” he booms in a voice you can almost recognize as spamton as you knew him. “WHAT HAVE WE GOT HERE ?? IS THI5 THE [[Humble Small-Town Beginnings]] OF THE [[Watch This Heartwarming Reunion]] OF THE CENTURY?!?”

well, someone’s picked up some bizarre speech quirks since you last saw him. it takes you a second to process and make sense of what he just said.

“what?” you say. “spam..ton,” you hesitate in the middle of his name, the second syllable an addendum to save you from calling him by the nickname that came back so naturally, “you…” you have a million questions. “…are you okay?”

the facade he’s just thrown on is already cracking. the stretched-too-wide smile is fading from his eyes, his bold posture is receding back into slumping. his voice still has power behind it, but it’s more urgency than it is confidence: “iT S BEEN [[A real long time]] SINCE Y0U AND I L4ST [Click Here To Chat] !! YOU GOTTA GIVE ME THE [[LArge Ice-Cream Scoop]] ON HOW LIFES BEEN TRE ATING YOU”

he’s avoiding the question. even before… everything, spamton’s always been a little too prideful to admit the embarrassing, so you take that as not meaning well.

you want to be mad at him — he’s finally before you after all this time, after he just kind of disappeared from everything as almost soon as he made it big, but you can’t find it in you. he’s clearly not in a good place in any sense of the word, and you’ve always privately wished for a chance to reconnect with him.

“wanna catch up at my place?” you offer all too casually, despite every shred of common sense in your brain urging you to do, uh, not that.

he looks like you just told him he won the lottery. “IF YOUD BE!! WILLING TO LET ME IN2 YOUR [[Quality Living Space]] I WOULD LOV E TO”

“…and it wouldn’t have to just be for an evening or anything,” you add. “spamton, do you — do you have anywhere to stay?”

the deer-in-headlights expression flickers across his face for a moment, but he gestures to the dumpster in the alley with all the gusto of a used car salesman, telling you, “I HAVE A TOP OF THE LINE [[No Place Like Home]]”

“…spamton, that’s not…” you don’t want to kick his pride while its down; you choose not to finish your sentence. instead, you simply say: “i have a guest bedroom.”

“………REALLY?”

“do you want to.. stay with me?”

“CAN YOU PROMISE [[Not Clickbait]]”

“i’m being serious. promise.”

there’s a pause, and then:

there's several czech pun names, including berry's middle name. berry b addison... they don't like sharing their whole middle name.

blank's voiceclaim is bo burnham, and i realized the two accidentally had similarities, so i purposefully added some quirks to blank to make him a bit more like bo as an inspiration.

tired swatchling is based on a roblox voicechat roleplay with my friends - i played as a... well. tired swatchling who's number one thing is hating rouxls kaard.

yes, blank does have rats in his hair. the cursorats! my own species i made !they're the rats to maice's...mice. they're based on gamer rgb glowing mice. the names of his pet cursorats are, pantaloonie, remy, the one (and only) and spaghetti

maddison is heavily and i mean heavily based on my personality, if you added a bit of jerma. he is a canonical twitch streamer

blank and berry are also based on me, but also my best friend and our dynamic we had/have growing up! we've known each other since we were like..3 years old. we go way back and have seen each other in different stages of life like this, and certain periods just... inspired these two characters. and just. me. blank is a representation of me with people i trust, and being heavily indulgent in the things i like... berry is the quiet me around people i don't trust, and the character who struggles with a lot of the same social struggles i have as a neurodivergent person. all of these characters are a bit nd i can not write normal characters. sorry.

tired swatchling's and mocha's parents are two swatchling moms, chroma and aroma! i need to redesign aroma a bit, and make "modern" designs for them, since their current designs are them while younger!! these ladies have aged a little bit since - despite darkners lack of aging visibly after they become full grown adults.

spectre's name is not pronounced like specter! it's pronounced like spec-tray. they were my first swatchling oc, too, and for self indulgence they feature a spade on the back of their suit - considering that's my symbol i've adopted for several reasons, deltarune being one of them. we go way back.

swatchlings have uv light vision!! they also have uv light markings only other swatchlings can see!! they have a event/holiday where they paint on their bodies where their invisible markings are to celebrate their differences! literally! each swatchling has a totally unique marking, that is not determined by anything! it's generated randomly upon hatching. (grows in like a day or two after hatching.) this is how swatchlings differentiate each other even if they may otherwise look the same! they also all like being unique, using make up and cool hair styles and outfits... a luxury working specific datapack swatchlings may not have - so they got these markings, since nobody else can see 'em!

clambert has a pet tasque named perci. she has a complicated, long name but i keep forgetting it. and i keep forgetting to save it. im not asking my friend to remind me agian currently it is lost in like a year worth of instagram dm scrolling and i dont even go there anymore.

blank's design is inspired by ena!

hash was originally just a named background character... that appeared in a little thing i wrote. just like, an possible dpau intro? it made sense for me to use a regular visitor character, and i gave them a name... but my friends loved them a lot so... hash is an oc now! they are also inspired by almond cookie. they are a maskless swatchling, too

also, my other maskless swatchling oc, tag, was a concept for a loong time before i finished her design. i was stuck on the name.. but... tag was an obvious choice. since yknow. hash. tag. lmao

brodi adobi and his company is based on adobe, obviously. his design is inspired by portal colors, and his voice claim is jave johnson. he hates lemons. also, he knows almost nothing about art, he just sells art supply shit. he goes on a lot of talk shows.

malina is an lightner oc, that i have had since before deltarune chapter 2. hell, she was actually an undertale oc first, made around 2020, as i have realized i never had a proper undertale oc.... i really like nicecream guy, so i made him a sister character! i then decided to make her a deltarune character with chapter 2, as she now fit in there way better! she has her own story- HOWEVER. The story of the main cast is... very seperated from the main story of DPAU. She follows just the main cast, but she does exist in DPAU and my headcanons to her story apply! she's best friends with sweet cap'n cakes! and scratch. because why wouldn't i put my self insert there

oh yeah, scratch is my deltarune sona and basically self insert!! they are the fourth member of sweet cap'n cakes. they are based on a soundboard and a karaoke machine! they were also inspired by napster and hatsune miku, and gamer headphones with cat ears. they are also very self indulgent with my color choices. they're me, but a silly music robot who makes ytps on the spot, and is just silly goofy 24/7 without the problems real me has

i did write a short chapter thingy with malina!! i have like... entire scenes thought out for her how she follows along with the gang in the main game. this... slipped out of my head mostly, id have to read my old notes. she also has a snowgrave route!! and that also splits into like.. 2 "endings" and both are! not good! so no arms ?

malina is also a florist! and unlike me she enjoys doing it! i regret my school choice and this is a random cry for help! she helps out asgore at his store. also, some of the experiences she talks about kris with, and some little experiences i have made up for them, kris, and noelle and their whole lil' gang while they were kids are based on some stuff i did as a kid myself

snooper isn't an important character in dpau, he just exists there, but i love this beast. his hair is the twitter logo, he says l+ratio unironically, and his speech pattern is inspired by quagsire in from PMD. he has his own page on my website! not just that, but a whole mystery fun hunt! if you go there you can even get his petz mod of himself :D

blank also has corrupted speech, similar to spamton. just.. more fucke.d no advertising, just fucked. imagine a walking glitchy ytp. been compared to withered chica's voice. he can also make static noises and his voice can change tones as well. he also quotes movies and past experiences which will sound exactly the same as they did before. he's like a fucked up radio. his speech is very annoying to write at times, but here's some old examples back before i gave up on adding all the effects and jumbles while rping. msot of the time he is like... audible just glitchy. when extremely emotional his voice breaks more. OK. NOW TO THE EXAMPLES.

I'm going so insane over the way you write spamton and his glitches I could like read just how you write his mannerisms forever. I've read both beyond repair and the keeping neo series and spamton in both of them is just chef's kiss. I am curious and it's cool if you don't want to reveal it but are the Addison's going to have any more of a role in beyond repair or is it going to be a strictly spamton and tenna fic? Either way I will enjoy

This theory is probably just a bunch of nonsense fueled by my adoration of Spamton and the original Starwalker, but I think that starwalker birds and the original Starwalker in chapter 1 parallel the relationship between Swatch and Spamton in chapter 2

No offense to Starwalker, but the starwalker birds have a much nicer sprite, their design is cool and is meant to be aesthetically pleasing in contrast to the original Starwalker, whose design is more notable for being funny and crudely drawn on purpose. This is just like how Swatch looks dignified and professional in their shop sprites while Spamton looks silly and off-putting 

If you talk to the original Starwalker, they say they're "the original" and that the starwalker birds are "pissing them off," which implies that the original Starwalker thinks the starwalker birds are copying them, similarly to how Swatch alludes to Spamton copying their look.

There's also the fact that if you check Spamton's pipis, the text will say they're "the original," and buying a bowtie from him will get him to declare that they're "exclusive official" merchandise. This seems to acknowledge the fact that Spamton wants people to know that his ideas and products are unique to him, which is interesting in consideration of the fact that Swatch has been selling his old bowties with the labels removed.

The original Starwalker's claim of the starwalker birds copying them seems ridiculous, as the starwalker birds do what Starwalker does so much better that's it's almost a laughable accusation, and if anything it seems like the original Starwalker is the one doing the copying. But you could say the same about Spamton's insistence on being genuine and original, and it turns out Swatch is the one doing some of the stealing...so maybe the original Starwalker is actually correct.

And hey, maybe Swatch is also falsely accusing Spamton of copying them when they're the one who stole HIS look, it's just that nobody will believe Spamton since he isn't the most credible source and Swatch wears that style in a much more flattering and believable way

Also, Swatch is very birdlike, while Spamton only has him calling the pipis “eggs” and having wings in his angel and neo forms to relate him to birds (and Swatch in this regard). Likewise the original Starwalker is only similar to a starwalker bird by virtue of being a star, so they don't have all that much in common. 

The starwalker birds and Swatch are also both birdlike darkners, so they have that in common. And when looking at shared traits between the original Starwalker and Spamton, they both have pretty notable quirks in the way that they speak, with some of them being only visible through writing (use of yellow text and odd spacing/use of brackets and odd characters in place of letters), and both capitalize words in a strange way (���Pissing”/Spamton’s allcaps). 

Spamton doesn’t do this too often, but there are a few times where he adds unnecessary spaces in his sentences, usually because he’s omitting a word (”HEY EVERY !” at the start of his first appearance and the “IT’S FUN FOR THE          !” from his fangamer merch page being two examples that came to mind, but iirc there are more than just these two). Starwalker just seems to be stretching out dialogue instead of omitting words, but it’s still similar enough that I wanted to specifically mention it

I really don't think this means much but I love to overthink when it comes to these guys so here is my analysis :)

favourite thing about them: i enjoy his various problems. but also like i kinda just really love the way hes this archetype of some sillyman clawing past both fate and a kinda pathetic disposition in a desperate attempt to find his own truth. like he’d be kinda boring if he was all serious, and kinda vapid if he was all silly. so i LOVE how the two elements of him mingle to create this kinda weird desperate character

least favourite thing about them: YOUR TYPING QUIRK IS TOO HARD TO WRITE. PLEASE.

fanon pet peeve: this kinda goes hand in hand with my favourite thing about him but i’m 100% in the camp that spamton is interesting BECAUSE he’s the marriage of this silly eccentric character and a truly desperate sadman. i dislike seeing content where only one or the other exists just bc to me it doesn’t make much sense.... like spamton’s tragic backstory is sad yes but he’s also such a PERFORMER and a LITTLE WEIRDO and on the opposite end you have all the like. ‘oh spamton my little teacup purse dog’ ‘oh spamton the creature’ where it’s like. i WHOLLY understand the appeal lord knows some characters get woobified into being annoying so it’s fun to poke at his shape. but also like there is still a *character* here. he’s not a pixel sprite of a weird thing to me he’s a facsimile of a broken puppet businessman who’s just humanoid enough to hurt but just silly enough to be not taken seriously for it. but also that’s just my onion and people should still smack him on a wall to ensure greater shelf life

I love Spamton and Queen (for different reasons!) but as a fic writer (and someone who still hasn't finished the game) I would have no idea how to replicate their speech quirks. Especially Spamton, it's hard to really get a feel for his voice. And both of them have incredible dialogue! That's the problem! (For writing, not for the game.) Their speech patterns are so fun and unique that I don't think I could do them justice.
