my love-hate relationship with ‘stranger things 3’

PROS:

· So much was going on at any given moment. It was a rollercoaster on an acid trip in the middle of a South Asian wedding after 2PM.

· It feels like the writers genuinely had fun with this season; the Big Bad was (ironically, considering its origins) fresh, the storylines went every direction imaginable- and beyond- and who the fuck cares about connecting all the threads when it’s so damn entertaining?

· Steve Harrington in a dorky sailor’s costume.

· Steve Harrington never changing out of said dorky sailor’s costume for the entire season.

· Robin Buckley in a dorky sailor’s costume.

· Robin Buckley in general.

· Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley in dorky sailor’s costumes, together.

· Straightbaiting.

· Steve finally getting a friend who doesn’t make him act like a douche / doesn’t dump him for a guy who creeped on them / has hit puberty.

· Male-female friendships that don’t end up in boning.

· Steve finally winning a fight.

· Dustin making a big deal out of this.

· Erica ‘You can’t spell America without Erica’ Sinclair.

· Hopper being El’s legal father.

· El breaking up with Mike.

· Female friendships that do not involve one being eaten alive by a monster from another dimension.

· Max giving El a makeover.

· Gratuitous references to the 80s.

· Will Byers.

· Me adopting Will Byers.

· On the subject of Will Byers- I know a lot of you headcanon gay Will, but consider: ace/aro Will.

· Nancy’s new haircut.

· Karen Wheeler being a decent mother to her daughter instead of hooking up with a boy the same age as her aforementioned daughter (the bar is literally so low for this woman, the only way to go is up).

· Heather Holloway, my girl in red.

· Carnivals.

· The Fourth of July.

· Carnivals on the Fourth of July.

· Billy’s mullet.

· Billy’s blue, blue eyes.

· Billy in a wifebeater and blue, blue jeans.

· Billy reminding me of multiple Taylor Swift songs.

· Billy getting possessed.

· Billy’s moral compass making a cameo.

· Billy dying right afterwards. (me, watching Billy’s childhood trauma: We saw this with Christian Grey, we saw it with Hardin Whoeverthefuck; they’re not gonna give him a redemption arc, are they? me, watching Billy get punctured like shishkebab: GIVE HIM THE GODDAMN REDEMPTION ARC.)

· Billy would not be amused with the existence of tentacle hentai.

· This dead meme that took me far too long to make that I’m far too proud of:

Graphic designing is my passion.

· Dustin and Suzie-not-Q’s duet trumping every Disney musical in existence.

· The dog. I don’t remember seeing it, but there must’ve been at least one.

CONS:

· The sheer secondhand embarrassment I got from the first episode alone. I had to leave my room multiple times to get a breather; it was an effort to convince myself to take the stairs instead of flinging myself off the goddamn balcony.

· Exploding into smithereens like one of those rats >>>>> seeing children making out.

· El and Mike not staying broken up.

· Evil Russians.

· Not being able to take a Russian course because I’m already falling behind on my Spanish and Italian and the Duolingo owl being a bitch about it.

· The US military getting later than my dad picking me up after school.

· The realization that Dad’s still going to be late as ever because I never fucking learned to drive.

· The pandemic that got in the way of my driving lessons.

· Billy’s Camaro- second to only the locker room for the most popular hookup spot in Harringrove fics- getting banged up.

· Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash not making an appearance.

· All the time I spent wondering which writer has a kink for seeing Joe Keery’s face in injury makeup because Steve Harrington gets the living daylights knocked out of him every season.

· ‘Injury makeup’ being something I made up on the spot because I don’t know what else to call it.

· The Coca-Cola product placements.

· Coca-Cola and Pepsi tasting the same to me.

· “I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.” Mike, you’re, like, 12.

· Erica Sinclair going from funny to insufferable every time I blink.

· Billy getting skewered in the middle of his character arc.

· El knowing way too much for a girl who didn’t know what a friend was in the first season.

· Steve being too much of a comic relief and not enough of a person.

· Hopper being whatever the hell he was for this entire season. He was so jarringly out of character that they should’ve just given him another name and made him Hopper’s psycho twin or something.

· I heard somewhere that Maya Hawke had to ask for her character to be queer… but they’re perfectly fine with having middle-aged, married women lust over a teenager??? I reiterate, the bar is so fucking low, yet somehow the gays are below even that???

· My perseverance about making shitty memes.

2 - favorite case

you see this one is already a tricky question to ask me, a renowned indecisive bastard. with a notable exception (turnabout big fuck), i think i have enjoyed all cases for one reason or another, i'm unsurprisingly easy to please. however, if i had to list (LIST not rank) my favorite cases it would go kind of like this:

farewell, my turnabout (a race against time.... your client being guilty...... finding the meaning of the truth......edgeworth returning....... masterpiece)

turnabout memories (playing as mia playing as mia playing as mia playing as mia playing as m-)

bridge to the turnabout (i don't think there are words to describe the fondness i have in my heart for this case and the cathartic conclusion to the trilogy and to mia's story, the TRIBUTE to her and her legacy oh my GOD)

turnabout for tomorrow (i unashamedly loved dual destinies and the ending got me crying like a toddler, so melodramatic and so SAD SO MANY ATHENA/SIMON SIBLING FEELS)

turnabout storyteller (sue me)

twisted karma and his last bow/the resolve of ryunosuke naruhodo (i don't think i need to explain myself with this one, anyone who has played it knows it is a cultural reset and the best thing to happen just ever)

if i had to choose one, though? it would have to be twisted karma/resolve. it genuinely made me lose ALL domestication and go feral. i have said this once and i will say it more times: the great ace attorney is the best videogame of a time

4 - memorable witnesses

i have to name fucking moe the clown here. for lack of a better word, that fuck sure was memorable. i kept insulting that hijo de puta reverting to my native spanish because he made me so MAD and he kept LAUGHING and i hate clowns so Much. his cross examination is my villain origin story

also dahlia inside maya's body pretending to be iris? iconic. that was amazing to see and amazing to figure out

maria gorey 💕💖✨🥰

i always love whenever you have to cross examine someone you know from before, like cross examining simon and apollo during turnabout for tomorrow or van kinks during twisted karma. it's just so different when you actually care a lot about the person on the stand you know

5 - "oh shit" moment

oh there have been plenty! i can remember very vividly the gasp and the "NO" i yelled at the screen when athena's prints were found on the lighter in turnabout for tomorrow, because i would have NEVER guessed the case was heading that way. having athena suddenly be the defendant was an Experience and i loved every second of it

realizing there was only one person who had described the poker cards as blue during turnabout trump made me sit down for a moment. i genuinely thought I got it wrong and would get a penalty when i presented kristoph's profile, i screamed so hard

also i may or may not have gasped so hard all air left my lungs when susato recognized kazuma as the apprentice during the return of the great departed soul, and then the apprentice looked sideways and i saw his profile and it was HIM UGH SO GOOD

16 - a ship i don't get

blackquill and the phantom. like. why?? what??? i really don't understand. mostly because i think if there is a token straight in this franchise that is simon blackquill, but also because i can't see them as a couple. i just can't.

even with aa ships i don't personally agree with, like narumayo (derogatory) or cykesquill (*sounds of me gagging across the ocean*), i can see why people would ship them. nick and maya are best friends and i get that many people would see chemistry where i see sibling-like banter; and sunshine girl/emo grumpy bastard is one of the oldest and most popular ship dynamics for a reason: it works. but with simon and the phantom i don't understand the appeal or why you would even ship them. it absolutely escapes my mind SIMON WAS IMPRISONED FOR A CRIME THE PHANTOM COMMITTED WHYY

22 - plot twist that annoys you

you know what's coming: "apollo is actually trucy's brother" from aa4. i don't really mind they're siblings, not at all, i find it quite cute – however, the way it was done was lazy and badly written. though i can't say it came completely out of left field, because back in the first case you're told that only apollo and trucy are able to perceive, that is the one and only clue leading to the "shocking revelation" that they're both thalassa's kids. such a cheap trick clearly done to tie apollo to the trilogy characters and the plot in some way... he didn't need that! he was fine just the way he was! having your mentor turn out to be a murderer and your childhood idol a double-faced cheeky bastard was enough trauma to fuel apollo through the next games, he didn't need all of *gestures broadly* this

(and some would argue he didn't need his other backstory either but anyway-)

and it could've been so easily done too! just mention apollo was raised in an orphanage. have him mention he wouldn't know anything about having a father because he grew up alone. just anything, something that would plant the seed of "hm, what if" inside our heads. it's a problem with an easy solution but they didn't do it! they decided to just drop it all in the last case and hope the impact of the reveal would mitigate the outrage. so annoying and for what

anyWAY this was long bae i hope you enjoyed it and you got a good glimpse inside of my twisted mind 😩

(i would've liked to have more tgaa here because that game gave me Thoughts but you already know it's my favorite videogame ever so)

HSMTMTS 1x08 Review

The Tech Rehearsal was a great ep. Let’s dig in!

Great Rini scenes tonight that did some heavy lifting to get them back to a place where they can almost be open with their feelings. Richard Bowen and Nina Salazar- Roberts being the reason the other goes by Nini and Ricky? Reader, that’s the cutest shit I’ve ever seen. The show really brought out the big guns with them knowing each other since Kindergarten. I think most of the casual audience is now shipping Rini, if they hadn’t already, so mission accomplished for the writers

Tim said on instagram that the writers wanted to show that Ricky and Nini had known each other since Kindergarten and it makes sense to use the Troyella rooftop scene and Gabriella’s line about meeting someone in Kindergarten and just becoming friends and use that to tie it all together. But it does somewhat conflict with Kourtney and Nini’s convo in 1x05 that made it sound like Nini only met Ricky in 7th grade. Now it’s true that Kourtney may have just meant it in the sense that 7th grade was when Nini started to have feelings for Ricky but if that’s the case then the writing should have been more clear

As Nini sang in All I Want, EJ is perfect on paper and in Miss Jenn’s notes she wrote that EJ was the perfect Troy on paper; it’s like poetry it rhymes

This is the second ep in a row where a main cast member has been missing. I do wonder if the writers felt that they had done too much work with Rina and keeping Gina off screen was the easiest way to set up a return to Rini. The writers have never been subtle when it comes to ending ships; when it came time to remove EJ as Nini’s love interest they quickly villainized him. I don’t think they want to undo the good work they’ve done redeeming Gina so keeping her off screen is the next best thing

EJ and Carlos had a fun dynamic. EJ trying to emote was so funny as was him stealing Miss Jenn’s notes, it really is his signature move. Matt Cornett does really well playing a dope. I liked that he gave Carlos a confidence boost. Nice to hear Carlos speaking Spanish

Also we now know that Carlos Surname is Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez, which means son of Roderick and originated from the Visigoths who conquered Spain, is the 4th most common surname in Spain but it also seems likely that the writers had never decided on Carlos’ last name and just gave him Frankie’s last name which is lazy

EJ Caswell is suffering from Lucas Friar and Jonah Beck syndrome; the handsome, athletic, and kind of ditzy love interest for the main girl who really doesn’t have much else going on when they’re not being shipped with the main girl. Lucas never really got much development but the writers could rely on Farkle to help balance out the show and in S3 the GMW became the Riley and Maya show so it didn’t really matter what Lucas got up to anyways. Andi Mack suffered greatly from never developing Jonah, especially in S3 once he was no longer Andi’s love interest his plot line was a total trainwreck. What made things worse is that the the writers couldn’t build up Cyrus like the GMW writers could build up Farkle since Cyrus’ story was restricted because he was gay. Luckily HSMTMTS has plenty of main characters and is less restricted so it doesn’t drag the show down so much that EJ is just kind of there. I also wonder if the fact that EJ is a senior plays a role in this, sure they can do S2 as the spring musical but what about S3 when EJ would be graduated? If he won’t be on the show long term then there’s no real pressure to develop him or give him that much to do

Big Red appearing behind Miss Jenn was the funniest moment of the ep for me. I also love every time we hear an adult refer to Big Red as Big Red because it’s just so silly

Big Ashlyn (I think that’s their shipname) remains cute. Very smooth of Ashlyn to use Big Red’s compliment to flirt with him

Loved The Role of a Lifetime, Lucas did great, nice little nod to Kate having played Glinda, and loved the ‘’contractually obligated dream sequence’’ line

Interesting motif of ruins tonight. The El Rey theatre is in ruins, on stage the backdrop is a ruined Roman city, and Miss Jenn must face the fact that her acting career and dreams are in ruins before she can start rebuilding her life

Dara can really sing, it’s hard to believe that Kourtney was just supposed to be a one off role. I thought her initial reaction to Nini potentially leaving was realistic but I’m not sure her calling the Dean to come and watch Nini perform was the right move to make it up to Nini

I liked the little Seb and Kourtney interaction. I know there’s been a lot of speculation that they’re setting up a genderfluid Seb story line but I’m deeply skeptical that’s something Disney would allow. And if they were willing to do that then I don’t think they would have allowed Seb to become a main character in S2

I really liked that Gina told Ricky via text that she would have to leave earlier than planned and that Nini told Kourtney and Ricky that she was interested in going to YAC. It was awful in Andi Mack when Buffy left early without telling her friends and then ghosted them for what was supposed to be two months in universe and it was weird that Andi never told any of her friends about SAVA so I’m glad HSMTMTS isn’t making the same mistakes

Looking Ahead:

Just for a Moment sounds great, Joshua and Olivia did such a great job. It’s great that Tim is giving the actors a chance to write their own songs, I hope we see more of it in future seasons. From a video Joshua shared on twitter we can see that they were working on the song during the filming of 1x02. The song must have been selected before 1x08 was written since Nini’s line that it was just a moment is clear set up for the song

The YAC dean is in the audience, does Nini flee and its Ricky who finds her which is why EJ is singing part of breaking free? Or is Ricky gone because he sees his mom in the audience?

How Gina’s move gets undone will be interesting to see. For Andi Mack at least they could say that government cutbacks led the Driscolls to return but if Gina’s mom has to follow natural disasters then it wouldn’t be so easy to just move her back to SLC

The show is flirting with disaster with the YAC plot. If Nini gets in then she will inevitably have to eventually return to East High and in the meantime she’ll be cut off from all the other characters and whatever focus YAC gets will necessarily take away from whatever is going on in East High. There’s a reason Andi Mack only introduced the SAVA plot in the final few eps, there would have been no way to actually pull that off if the series was going to continue

I really do hope we get something with Seblos in the final two eps. 1x05 was great and I’m happy that they were able to do so much textual stuff already but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not touch on it further. I’m sure that with Seb being a main in S2 we’ll get more but we need more now in S1

ACTORS AND ACTRESSES IN QUESTION

This is going to be my favourite portion of this process, especially with my interest in getting to know the people behind the characters. I feel like I should focus on around 5 female actresses and then 5 male actors, meaning I’m gathering enough content but not too much that it’s overwhelming.

1. Florence Pugh

Pugh is an English born actress who made her acting debut in 2014 in the film ‘The Falling’, but then began to gain recognition for her work in ‘Lady Macbeth’ (2016).

Though her real breakthrough didn’t happen until 2019, her portrayal of the wrestler Paige in the biographical sports movie ‘Fighting with My Family’ produced by Dwayne Johnson. Following her success from ‘Fighting with My Family’, one of her strongest pieces ‘Midsommar’ was released with her portraying an emotionally damaged woman Dani. She finally peaked with her portrayal of Amy March in ‘Little Women’, which resulted in her receiving not only a BAFTA nomination but also an Academy Award nomination.

While these are some of her best pieces of work have you heard about her upcoming movies or her past pieces that didn’t receive half as much recognition.

2. Victoria Pedretti

Pedretti is an American born actress who made her acting debut in 2014, participating in two short films. During this time she was focused on her studies, though once she graduated she was represented by The Gersh Agency.

Some of you may know her for her portrayal of Eleanor Crain in the hit Netflix horror series ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ which was released in 2018, this resulted in her receiving both Saturn Award and MTV Award nominations. Though her real climb to success didn’t really begin until 2019 in which she starred in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, then in the same year gained real recognition for her portrayal of Love Quinn in the Netflix Thriller ‘You’ and will return to the role for the third Season.

While this is what she’s best known for you should check out some of her beginning projects, as well as those up and coming.

3. Ana De Armas

De Armas is a Cuban-Spanish actress who made her acting debut back in 2006, in the Spanish film ‘Una rosa de Francia’. Following this she went on to star in the television show El Internado from 2007-2010.

She then began the transition to working in American films, her first being ‘Knock Knock’, which also starred Keanu Reeves. After this she made starred in two other movies, before making her initial breakthrough as the AI hologram Joi in Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Her next big hit was in the mystery film Knives Out (2019), starring as Marta Cabrera.

While this is what she’s known for she has a vast selection of other great projects, as well as her upcoming work in ‘Deep Water’ and the drama film ‘Blonde’ which is all about Marilyn.

4. Letitia Wright

Wright is a Guyanese-English actress who began her professional career in 2011, starring in multiple British TV shows including Doctor Who, Black Mirror and Humans.

In 2015 she began to make her breakthrough after starring in the award-winning film ‘Urban Hymn, following this her portrayal of Shuri in ‘Black Panther’ was the beginning of her global recognition. With this she reprised the role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In 2019 she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

Although her role of Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is what she’s known for, she has a number of upcoming projects outside of it. Just to name a few would be ‘Guava Island’, ‘Death on the Nile’ or the recently announced project ‘The Silent Twins’ based on the true story of June and Jennifer Gibbons.

5. Maya Hawke

Hawke is an American actress and model, known for being the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. In 2017 she made her screen debut as Jo March in the BBC adaption of ‘Little Women’.

Though she gained real recognition in 2019 from her portrayal of Robin Buckley in the third season of ‘Stranger Things’. In the beginning Hawke was the main actress being consider for Sofia Coppola’s adaption of ‘The Little Mermaid’ but Universal pictures had other ideas. Another key point of Hawke’s career was her role in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.

As well as reprising her role of Robin in the next season ‘Stranger Things’, she also starred in ‘Human Capital’ and has the upcoming project ‘Mainstream’. Aside from filmography she’s also releasing music on the side.

1. Daniel Kaluuya

Kaluuya is both a British actor and writer, who started his career as a teenager in the theatre. He made appearances in the hit television series ‘Skins’, in which he also wrote a few episodes for. He began to gain real recognition after starring as the lead in ‘Sucker Punch’, an award winning playwright.

He then began progressing onto the silver screen, starring in ‘Black Mirror’ and two BBC series’ ‘Psychoville’ and ‘The Fades’. Following these projects he made steps towards film as Agent Colin Tucker in ‘Johnny English Reborn’ and Black Death in ‘Kick-Ass’. Though in saying this his breakthrough role came with ‘Get Out’, a horror movie that attracted critical acclaim, resulting in reviews highlighting the strength of his acting abilities. Following the success of ‘Get Out’ his next hit came with ‘Black Panther’ which was impactful to many, globally.

While this only covers a few of Kaluuya’s successes and what he is known for, he has a number of other projects worth checking out such as ‘Widows’, ‘Queen & Slim’ and even an upcoming Fred Hampton project which currently remains untitled.

2. George MacKay

Mackay is a British actor who started his acting career at an early age, after being discovered by an acting scout in 2002 asking if he’d be interested in starring in P.J. Hogan’s adaption of ‘Peter Pan’, which ended up being his big break.

Following this he went on to star in ‘The Thief Lord’, which was a film adaption of Cornelia Funke’s best selling novel. His focus changed television projects before once again delving into film. In 2008 he starred in the movie ‘Defiance’ and although he ended up injured before even shooting his first scene, he was eager to still eager started. He started gaining real recognition in 2013, in which he portrayed Eddie in ‘How I Live Now’ alongside Saorise Ronan, followed by the role of Davy in the musical film ‘Sunshine on Leith.

Some of his work that’s definitely work checking out would be ‘Pride’, covering the journey of a young 20 year old and the struggles of being gay in homophobic Britain, ‘Where Hands Touch’, which is about the relationship between a member of Hitler Youth in Nazi Germany and a biracial girl. His most recent piece of work which gained recognition was his role of William Schofield, a young World War I soldier in ‘1917′.

3. Kedar Williams-Stirling

Williams-Stirling is a British actor who began his professional career in 2007 starring in an episode of ‘The Bill’, since then he’s worked on multiple projects in both film and television.

He started to gain recognition after his roles in the British films ‘Shank’ and ‘Montana’, another key part of the beginning of his career was his role in the CBBC television series ‘Wolfblood. Williams-Stirling began to become familiar with a wider audience of people with his role in ‘Sex Education’, alongside Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield.

While this is what he’s known for he’s had quite a few other projects such as ‘Will’, ‘Two Graves’ and ‘Changeland’.

4. Dacre Montgomery

Montgomery is an Australian born actor best known for his portrayal of Jason Lee Scott in ‘Power Rangers. Alongside acting he also uses his spare time to share his poetry via his podcast “DKMH”.

He started his professional career in 2010, starring in a short film called ‘Betrand the Terrible’ and then in 2011 starred in a TV Pilot entitled ‘Family Tree’. As well as doing short films he also had a part in a music video for an Australian deathcore band.

His breakthrough onto the big screen came with ‘Power Rangers’, starring as the Red Ranger. He also reached an even wider audience in 2017 thanks to his portrayal of Billy Hargrove in Netflix’s hit series ‘Stranger Things’, reprising the role in 2019. Another project he was a part of was ‘The True History of the Kelly Gang’, alongside Nicholas Hoult and Russell Crowe.

While this is what he’s known for he has a few other projects called ‘A Few Less Men’, ‘Better Watch Out’ and the upcoming project ‘The Broken Heart Gallery’.

5. Logan Lerman

Lerman is an American actor who is best known his portrayal of Percy Jackson. He started his career early staring in the likes of advertisements and commercials before moving towards the series ‘Jack & Bobby’, followed by the movies ‘The Butterfly Effect’ and ‘Hoot’.

He began to gain recognition for his roles in ‘3:10 to Yuma’, ‘The Number 23′, ‘Meet Bill’ and of course ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief’. With such a vast filmography focusing on various different genres, he went from starring in ‘The Three Musketeers’ one year to starring in ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ the next. The height of his career was in the late 2000s, early 2010s after this time the amount of projects he had slowed down slightly. Alongside acting he’s also featured as an executive producer in both ‘Indignation’ and ‘The Vanishing of Sidney Hall’.

Recently Lerman has made it back onto our screens through the Amazon Prime series ‘Hunters’, as well as the upcoming film project ‘Shirley’.

eom ‘han’ hanareum, 25 — she/her. call her anything but han and you’re dead. looks like a ditz, acts like a bitch, will kill on site. arguably the most hot-headed of the byulbit security.

tanaka itsuki, 25 — he/him. a little like namgi in the sense that he’s ????? all the time. awkward and doesn’t have a lot of friends due to his lacking korean, but knows enough to know when someone’s a threat. makes origami cranes in his free time and gives them to people. don’t take him to a restaurant he’ll make one out of a napkin.

bang ilsung, 27 — he/him. a soloist under siriusa who works as byulbit’s vocal trainer (much like baekho training pristin). not known mainstream, but has a small loyal fanbase. captivating voice & music. looks like a dique but is actually the sweetest man to ever exist. Big Goofball

esme han, 28 — she/her. a former backup dancer turned teacher for the girls of byulbit. knows and has taught almost all idols under the company, so he has her connections.

03.15 - Girl Meets a Christmas Story Riley organizes a secret santa, causing stress and arguments between the friends. Auggie learns santa isn’t real. Maya, to her surprise, is asked out.

03.16 - Girl Meets the Secret Keeper A fed-up Maya confronts Riley about the identity crisis, causing a rift between them. A rumor is spread about Isadora.

03.17 - Girl Meets She Don’t Like Me Maya and Riley attempt to reconcile, but encounter obstacles which they must solve. Josh, finished with his psychology course, threatens Lucas if he ever hurts Riley, which causes Lucas to examine his relationship with her.

03.18- Girl Meets That’s What She Said After sex ed starts, Riley decides to join a gender studies club, but she goes a little overboard in her feminism. Maya and her boyfriend, Clark, spend time together.

03.19 - Girl Meets April Showers After an argument about Clark, Maya and Lucas get into an argument that prompts Maya to try to leave the friend group. With the spring formal just around the corner, a distraught Riley eagerly tries to solve the problem with the help of Farkle, Zay, and Isadora.

03.20 - Girl Meets May Flowers Riley is determined to fix Lucas and Maya’s relationship by the spring formal. The nominations for the court are announced.

03.21 - Girl Meets the Green Eyed Monster A cautious Maya and Lucas proceed to reconcile, but the spring formal brings a surprise neither expected. Riley deals with her jealously over not winning the freshman lady title at the dance.

03.22 - Girl Meets Study Buddies After winning the freshman spots on the spring formal court, Maya and Lucas hash out their awkwardness. Zay asks Riley to tutor him.

03.23 - Girl Meets Finals Finals arrive, which stresses the clique six out. They deal with study habits and sleep schedules, which leads to Maya and Zay pulling an all-nighter.

03.24 - Girl Meets Rainbow Maya reveals a secret about her sexuality she’s been keeping for a while - she’s bi. A mutual friend of the clique six is harassed at school for being gay.

03.25 - Girl Meets Bear Riley loses her teddy bear and enlists her friends to help her find him. The search brings realizations about growing up to the clique six.

03.26 - Girl Meets the Times Are A Changin’ It’s almost the last day of school, so the clique six go to visit their old schools. They reflect on the past school year and discuss the next one. Lucas and Riley mutually break it off.

I promised a random anon I would give ‘em a more complete list of recs several months ago so here- in no particular order I have, Glee, Pretty Little Liars, Pitch Perfect, Girl Meets World, Supergirl, The 100, The Good Place, and Riverdale.

There’s very little porn without plot in here, but I went through my favorites on fanfiction.net and my history on Ao3 and if I recognized the fic I put it down. So some might have slipped through.

As I was going through these and rereading some old favorites I forgot about I wrote little bios. If your work, or a work you really like doesn’t have a bio it’s just cause I remembered it was really good and didn’t feel a need to reread it. If you want comment your own and I’ll edit the post and give you credit.

The minimum qualifications for all of these were:

At least 2k words for a one shot, if it was a multi chapter there had to be at least 1k words per chapter (For example: 14 chapters, 14k words)

It had to be completed or updated in the last year ish (but like I was flexible based on the quality, and if I knew the author or the deal or not)

It had to be Ao3 or Fanfiction.net and tagged appropriately (so I could find it)

Also I never really got into g!p stuff because I ran into a lot of transphobic or just really offensive stuff early on which put me off of it.

Or the alpha omega stuff, when my goach found out I was reading fanfiction she said ‘great just nothing with alpha omega shit okay” and that was like four years ago but I don’t care enough now to start. So none of those are on here (maybe in faberry but I don’t think so)

And they also had to be english, my spanish is still pretty bad so I can’t really read any of those- sorry :(

But let me know if the link ain’t right. And if you think something should be added let me know too, and I’ll read it and add it, and give you credit. My tastes have changed over the years to be slightly so if there’s something here that you think is distateful message me being like “can you reread this?” because it might’ve slipped through. Or I might be like “m8 thats some gay ass shit right there, agr33 to disagr33.” We’re all just here to read out otps getting together again and again in different ways, let’s just be chill about it

I think the ice queen plot was a little rushed but it’s still fantastic and I’m excited to see where the sequal goes!

Skylark - A superhero fic that’s pretty damn cool. Clarke and the gang had illegal experiments done to them by Mount Weather and it gave them superpowers. They fight crime while trying to remain anonymous as well. This story is so clever and incorporates the City of Light/chips/ flame so cool, and Clexa are badasses, and just…read it, trust me. Caitlin had just stepped out of her and Eric’s studio kitchen when she saw Angela and the kids. Angela had Gwen on her right hip, Langston’s hand in hers, and Maya trailing behind them. Maya was looking around the studio, a fascinated expression on her face, same as every other time she had visited Caitlin at work.

Angela walked straight up to Caitlin and unceremoniously dumped Gwen into her arms. “Hey mamá, your baby wants you.”

Caitlin just laughed, swinging Gwen onto her hip in a smooth move before leaning down and pressing a lingering kiss to Angela’s cheek. “Rough day, mami?” she asked in Spanish. Gwen squealed and slapped at Caitlin’s shoulder, which made Caitlin chuckle and press a kiss against her downy black curls. “Hi, baby, I missed you too,” she whispered. Then, a bit louder, she said, “I missed all my babies!”

Langston and Maya cheered. “We missed you too, mamá!” Maya said.

Angela groaned as she leaned down to scoop Langston up into her arms and pulled Maya forward. “Lupita, you have no idea. Our little demons here,” she paused to blow a raspberry on Langston’s neck, making him scream with giggles, “have been causing chaos all day. With bá on a roadie, baba busy writing his novel, and you at work with Bitty I’ve been dealing with it all alone!”

Caitlin grimaced even as Maya ran up to her and hugged her leg, resting her head on Caitlin’s soft thigh. “Sorry, Angie. Bitty and I are almost done and then I swear, I’ll come home and take care of the kids so you can nap.” She reached down and patted the top of Maya’s head.

Angela sighed. “Thanks, love. Sorry about the attitude, I’m just stressed.”

“Hey, I get it. Being a mom is the most stressful job of all,” Caitlin said before wrinkling her nose. “Ugh, I sound like my mamá. But you know what I mean.”

Angela snorted at her. “Are you ready for lunch, Lupita? I brought sandwiches.”

Caitlin groaned appreciatively. “That sounds amazing. I spend so much time around food with Bitty on our show and yet get to eat so little.”

That made Angela laugh for real. “I know,” she said. “You tell me so all the time. Now come on, let’s eat!”

“Ok baby.” Caitlin followed her with a lovestruck smile, one that had never disappeared from her interactions with her partners, even after more than a decade of being together. As Maya clung to her hand, Gwen started screaming at her in baby babble, and Angela walked ahead of them with to their car with Langston in her arms, Caitlin felt a bubble of contentment appear in her chest; one that only appeared when she was with her family.

God, she loved them so much.

couple things i wanna mention. 1) thank u @zimmerdouche for helping with the kids’ names!! 2) this entire conversation is in spanish bc i hc farmer, ford, and nursey as all latinx. farmer is biracial and mexican, ford is afro-latina from colombia, and nursey is biracial and cuban. this is why ford calls farmer “lupita” - farmer’s middle name is guadalupe. they all speak spanish in their house (chowder is fluent by now). (other languages the chow-farmer-ford-nurse kids are fluent in as they grow up: cantonese, arabic, and french). hope y’all enjoyed the fic!

Irene Cara

Irene Cara (born Irene Cara Escalera; March 18, 1959) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She is best known for her roles as title character Sparkle Williams in the 1976 film Sparkle and Coco Hernandez in the 1980 film Fame, earning her a Golden Globe nomination, and her recording of the song "Fame" became an international hit. Cara won an Academy Award in 1984 in the category of Best Original Song for co-writing "Flashdance... What a Feeling", which also became an international hit.

Early life

Cara was born in The Bronx, New York City, the youngest of five children. Her father, Gaspar Escalera, a factory worker and retired saxophonist, was Afro-Puerto Rican, and her mother, Louise, a cinema usher, was an American of Cuban descent. Cara has two sisters and two brothers.

At the age of three, Irene Cara was one of five finalists for the "Little Miss America" pageant. She began to play the piano by ear, then studied music, acting, and dance seriously, first having dance lessons, aged five. Her performing career started on Spanish-language television, professionally singing and dancing. She made early TV appearances on the Original Amateur Hour (singing in Spanish) and Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. In 1971–72, aged 13, she was a regular on PBS's educational program The Electric Company. As a child, Cara recorded a Latin-market Spanish-language record and an English Christmas album. She also appeared in a major concert tribute to Duke Ellington that also featured Stevie Wonder, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Roberta Flack.

Career

Cara appeared in on-and off-Broadway theatrical shows including the musicals Ain't Misbehavin', The Me Nobody Knows (which won an Obie Award), Maggie Flynn opposite Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy, and Via Galactica with Raúl Juliá.

Cara was the original Daisy Allen on the 1970s daytime serial Love of Life. Next came her role as Angela in romance/thriller Aaron Loves Angela, followed by her portrayal of the title character in Sparkle. Television brought Cara international acclaim for serious dramatic roles in two outstanding mini-series, Roots: The Next Generations and Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones.

John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 28, named her one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1976"; that same year, a readers' poll in Right On! magazine named her Top Actress.

Cara graduated from the Professional Children's School in Manhattan.

Fame and international acclaim

The 1980 hit movie Fame, directed by Alan Parker, catapulted Irene Cara to stardom. Cara was originally cast as a dancer, but when producers David Da Silva and Alan Marshall and screenwriter Christopher Gore heard her voice, they re-wrote the role of Coco Hernandez. As Coco Hernandez, she sang both the title song "Fame" and the film's other single, "Out Here on My Own." These songs helped make the film's soundtrack a chart-topping, multi-platinum album. Further history was made at the Academy Awards that year: it was the first time two songs from the same film were nominated in the same category and both sung by the same artist. Thus, Cara had the opportunity to be one of the few singers to perform more than one song at the Oscar ceremony; "Fame," written by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford, won the award that year.

Cara earned Grammy nominations in 1980 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical. Billboard named her Top New Single Artist, while Cashbox Magazine awarded her both Most Promising Female Vocalist and Top Female Vocalist.

Asked by Fame TV series' producers to reprise her role as Coco Hernandez, she declined so as to focus her attention on her recording career. As a result, Erica Gimpel assumed the role.

Post-Fame career

Cara was slated to star in her own sitcom, Irene, on NBC in 1981. Even though the pilot aired and received favorable reviews, the network did not pick it up for its fall season. It also starred veteran performers Kaye Ballard and Teddy Wilson, as well as newcomers Julia Duffy and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

In 1983, Cara appeared as herself in the film D.C. Cab, which is a film about a group of cabbies. The movie stars Mr. T. One of the characters, Tyrone played by Charlie Barnett, is an obsessed Cara fan who decorated his Checker Cab as a shrine to her. Her contribution to the film's soundtrack, "The Dream (Hold on To Your Dream)" played over the closing credits of the film, and proved to be a minor hit, peaking at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1984.

In 1982, Cara earned the Image Award for Best Actress when she co-starred with Diahann Carroll and Rosalind Cash in the NBC Movie of the Week, Maya Angelou's Sister, Sister. Cara portrayed Myrlie Evers-Williams in the PBS TV movie about civil rights leader Medgar Evers, For Us the Living: The Medgar Evers Story; and earned an NAACP Image Award Best Actress nomination. She also appeared in 1982's Killing 'em Softly.

In addition to her music and film work, Cara also continued to perform in live theatre during this period. In the summer of 1980, she briefly played the role of Dorothy in The Wiz on tour, in a role that Stephanie Mills had first portrayed in the original Broadway production. Coincidentally, Cara and Mills had shared the stage together as children in the original 1968 Broadway musical Maggie Flynn, starring Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy, in which both young girls played Civil War orphans.

In 1983, Cara reached the peak of her music career with the title song for the movie Flashdance: "Flashdance... What A Feeling", which she co-wrote with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey. Cara penned the lyrics to the song with Keith Forsey while riding in a car in New York heading to the studio to record it; Moroder composed the music.

Cara admitted later that she was initially reluctant to work with Giorgio Moroder because she had no wish to invite further comparisons with another artist who worked with Moroder, Donna Summer. But the collaboration paid off and became a hit in several countries, garnering numerous accolades for Cara. She won the 1983 Academy Award for Best Song (Oscar), 1984 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, 1984 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and American Music Awards for Best R&B Female Artist and Best Pop Single of the Year.

"Flashdance..." was re-recorded by Cara twice. The first time was in 1995 as a track in the original soundtrack for the movie "The Full Monty"; the second time was in 2002, as a duet she recorded with Swiss artist DJ BoBo.

In 1984, she was in the comedic thriller City Heat, in which she co-starred opposite Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds and sang the standards "Embraceable You" and "Get Happy." She also co-wrote the theme song "City Heat", which was sung by the jazz vocalist Joe Williams. In May of that year she scored her final Top 40 hit with "Breakdance" going to #8. The follow up, "You Were Made for Me" reached #78 that summer but then she never charted on the Hot 100 again. In 1985, Cara co-starred with Tatum O'Neal in Certain Fury, an exploitation underachiever about two troubled young women who flee a court hearing and are mistaken for killers. In 1986, Cara appeared in the film Busted Up. She also provided the voice of Snow White in the unofficial sequel to Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Filmation's Happily Ever After, in 1993. That same year, she appeared as Mary Magdalene in the record-breaking anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar opposite Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, and Dennis DeYoung.

Along with her career in acting and hit singles, Cara released several albums: Anyone Can See in 1982, What A Feelin' in 1983, and Carasmatic in 1987, the most successful of these being What A Feelin. In 1985 she collaborated with the Hispanic group Hermanos in the song "Cantaré, cantarás," in which she sings a solo segment with the Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo. She also released a compilation of Eurodance singles in the mid to late 1990s entitled Precarious 90's. Cara recently contributed a dance single, titled "Forever My Love", to the compilation album titled Gay Happening Vol. 12, in 2006.

Cara has also worked as a backup vocalist for Vicki Sue Robinson, Lou Reed, George Duke, Oleta Adams, and Evelyn "Champagne" King. Cara toured Europe and Asia throughout the 1990s, scoring several modest dance hits on European charts, but no US chart hits. Cara received two prestigious honors for her career in March 2004, with her induction into the Ciboney Cafe's Hall of Fame and a Lifetime Achievement Award presented at the sixth annual Prestige Awards.

In June 2005, Cara won the third round of the NBC television series Hit Me, Baby, One More Time, performing "Flashdance (What a Feeling)" and covered Anastacia's song "I'm Outta Love" with her current all-female band, Hot Caramel. At the 2006 AFL Grand Final in Melbourne, Cara performed "Flashdance (What a Feeling)" as an opener to the pre-match entertainment.

As of 2016, Cara divides her residence between New Port Richey, Florida and Santa Fe, New Mexico. She works with her band Hot Caramel, which she formed in 1999. Their album called Irene Cara Presents Hot Caramel was released on April 4, 2011. Cara appeared in season 2 of CMT's reality show Gone Country,.

Personal life

Cara married stuntman Conrad Palmisano in Los Angeles in April 1986 and they divorced in 1991.
