jason todd, stephanie brown and duke thomas are absolutely the best robins for gotham; they have the knowledge and perspective on how to best serve their gotham because they actually grew up in the city. they have lived experiences with addiction, poverty, homelessness, foster care etc. that the others don’t have and there’s a lot they can bring to the table in terms of how to best help the most vulnerable populations of gotham.

“you’re a tiny man, louis, flying too close to the sun, and that’s what i am... the sun.”
mmmm the sun and its relationship to vampires as a purifying destructive force... the sun in this quote as the ‘light of civilization’ in america.... how the councilman makes reference to icarus to tell louis that it was arrogant and naive of him to assume that a black man can come close to standing equal to white men like him
louis embracing his ‘dark’ nature as a vampire to enact his own sense of justice and revenge on the councilman....the way he found pleasure in it....the unforeseen consequences and retaliation from white citizens....
i have no thesis statement, i am simply raising my hand in lecture to offer my incoherent thoughts on a piece of media and forcing you all to hear me

yes, percy jackson having huge ties to black sails means a huge wave of people are gna start sitting down and watching black sails, potentially launching a renaissance of BS content, but that also means we are about to see an uptick of the worst BS takes this site has ever seen....humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. This is the Law of Equivalent Exchange

werewolf show that turns the idea of the big bad wolf on its head WHEN …. werewolf show as allegory for queerness and marginalization WHEN … civilization paints the world full of shadows and tells its children to stay close to the light … their light … their reasons … because in the dark depths of the forest is the big bad wolf there to swallow innocents whole …. history is written by the victors and werewolves are distorted to fit a certain narrative….where they are the monsters in the stories they tell their children at night … but that’s not true!!

my dnd fantasy campaign has an NPC named "Otis Laertides," who is essentially Odysseus in disguise, that's being set up as both a romantic lead and mini boss (sidenote: "otis" is close to the ancient greek word "outis" which means "no-one, nobody;" "laertides" just means "son of laertes")
because of how I pronounce his last name, my super serious prince-type NPC has been dubbed "liar titties" by my players ... it is an extremely accurate epithet

flint: i kill people because i have a deep rage in my heart and soul over the injustices committed by colonial empires; this stems from personal lived experiences of having everything ive worked so hard for taken away from me by said empire because im a queer man with little socio-economic capital. somehow, this act of colonial violence is not only valid in the eyes of western civilization but celebrated and by god i hate them for it

if you want to propel your story from good to great it needs to a) be haunted and b) have the setting be an almost sentient character

dick and bruce watched lilo and stitch (2002) together exactly one time, both privately thought it was the best disney movie to ever exist for reasons totally unrelated to their own personal circumstances, then never watched it again

ive been racking my brains as to who toby stephens will be playing in the percy jackson live action series (im manifesting it). like it has to be a god, but none of the olympians fit him quite right, not even Poseidon. that is until i reread the last olympian
Tumblr media
trust me. im clear headed, billy. i see him. the man is no god, he’s a titan. he is prometheus.
Tumblr media
toby stephens has the gravitas to play a being that predates the olympians and western civilization itself.....flint....fire....illuminating the dark for humanity....are we connecting the dots??

if i ever did a comparison essay between heart of darkness and black sails it would be like 20 pages long. i have a lot to say, and im hesitant to engage in a novel that i last read 6 years ago and wholly didn’t even like the first read through
but my main thing would be this: they both have very interesting commentary on the imagery of light v darkness, especially in relation to western civilization, as well as staunch critiques on western colonialism. but what they both lack is that all these issues are all engaged with mostly through the eyes of their white protagonists. in a story aiming to be post-colonial, shifting the narrative away from the perspectives of BIPOC leaves the story feeling incomplete.

so used to thinking (and seeing fanart) of the batkids as poc, that tuning into any dc media and seeing a white/whitewashed robin makes me go ??????
none of bruce’s adopted/pseudo kids are white to me thems the facts. its the energy they give trust me on this
bruce is still just some white guy to me though! but i will say there’s something about him that is soooo immigrant dad coded

was wondering when superman (its not easy), the best song of the 2000s, was going to show up on smallville .... to have it show up in this season in this episode for this scene makes me wanna [muffled crying screaming sobbing into a pillow]
context: s1 of smallville runs on a very monster of the week format. clark runs into a runaway named kyle who has the ability to read minds, which his parents used to get rich. the kents briefly foster him, and clark temporarily has a younger brother who knows about his powers, and who understands what its like to have powers you need to hide from others.
i think its one of the best episodes of the season, i think it did a great job of examining how lonely clark feels at being so different, and how he could have really benefited from a brother who felt the same. i wasnt expecting the corny superman show to have some of the best clark kent characterization/storylines that ive seen but here we are!!
