There’s this phenomenon that isn’t quite queerbaiting, and therefore shouldn’t be called that in my opinion, but there isn’t a specific word for it as far as I know. Basically the phenomenon where a couple isn’t explicitly shown to be a couple on screen (usually due to corporate homophobia), but is definitely intended by the creators to be a couple.

Edit: The two phrases that have been brought up in the comments are queer-coding and Herero-baiting. I’m partial to the latter.

I'm usually pretty chill with keeping shipping separate from canon AND I'm usually more pissed off then not with the vague deniable gay romances in visual media but it's so bewildering to me that anyone would deny Victor and Jayce Arcane being portrayed as romantic.

Like, in their final scene Jayce literally states his commitment to Victor and hands the rune - an unambiguous symbol of victors exclusive affection for him, that victor handed over 3 times before - back to Victor. And that provokes a reaction so intense that they have to physically fight to contain it. And we see their glowing naked bodies thrashing around as they struggle to stay together. And as they finally reconnect they share a look full of vulnerability and almost fear of what's to come, but choose to embrace anyways. And they comfort and hold each other tenderly through the culmination, the final act of total merging and mutual destruction. What brotherhood are we fucking talking about. this is like, the mythical endpoint of all eroticism???

Truly I have rarely felt so loved by the creators of a show. When I first watched korra season 3 I started to see korrasami, and repeatedly reminded myself I was being crazy and it would never be intended by the writers. The season 3 finale hit and korrasami had me by the throat, but I still knew it was only in my head. And then season 4 came. The finale aired- I remember watching it after work and just repeating to myself "no way" before going online to double check what I was seeing, because it was so explicit! Nowadays I would absolutely interpret it as a cop-out, but in 2014 it was so obvious that the creators were PURPOSEFULLY DEPICTING A WLW ROMANCE FOR THEIR PROTAGONIST!! AND THEY WERE!! I HAD NOT BEEN IMAGINING THINGS IN SEASON 3! THEY HAD INTENDED TO PORTRAY A SAME-SEX ROMNCE THAT WHOLE TIME AND THEY HAD! And after all that Bryan still published that lovely letter, stating point-blank their intentions, that korrasami was canon. I know I sound like a broken record it was just incredibly meaningful.

I think one of my “favorite” things is when people misinterpret what it means to be aroace. Watching people so clearly not understand the complexity behind the spectrum of aromatic and asexuality and then proceed to say they “stand with” aroace as an ally is so hilarious to me. Especially when they use this to start bashing on a perfectly fine ship, especially because said ship gets in the way of theirs.

Aroace does not mean no attraction. The plastered poster face for it is people who don’t feel ANY types of attraction, but that does not mean everyone. Aromantic people can date and fall in love. Asexual people can fuck. Aroace people can do both.

Yes, aroace rep IS needed. But we still have it via Luffy—just because Luffy kisses someone (hypothetically) doesn’t mean we just yeeted the aroace label off of him. He is STILL aroace. You know who else is aroace? Bon Clay, for one. Zoro as well. Yet I don’t see people screaming that shipping Zoro with someone completely erases the aroace label, now do I?

There are a lot of really nuanced pros and cons to the phenomenon of creators being more accessible to fans via social media nowadays, but one of the strangest things I've observed is like. People asking permission to have headcanons? Like yes, obviously, it's interesting to learn more about the creators' original intentions, but "Neil Gaiman, is it ok if in interpret Aziraphale as having carpal tunnel? 🥺" babes, that's between you and your 10 most unhinged Discord friends. I like the game and the most I do with the OMORI fandom is reblog art and stuff, is that okay to follow you or would you rather someone like me not follow you?
