Announcing Wildfell Weekly, a substack read-a-long for Anne Brontë's novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall!

You must go back with me to the autumn of 1827.

A new tenant has taken up residence in old Wildfell Hall and Mr. Gilbert Markham finds himself very intrigued. But the widow Mrs. Helen Graham is more than what she seems, and as rumors about her start to fly, she reveals to a doubting Gilbert the truth about the disastrous marriage she left behind.

Anne Brontë differed from her sisters Charlotte (Jane Eyre) and Emily (Wuthering Heights) in favoring a Realist rather than Romantic approach to her writing. In Tenant she explored themes of domestic violence, alcoholism and addiction, gender relations, motherhood and marriage, and the ability of women to define their own lives with an unflinching desire to depict what she saw to be true. While now considered among the first feminist novels, critics of Anne's day were shocked by a book they found coarse, brutal, and overly graphic.

So starting October 26, 2023 and until June 10, 2024, let's read together a story one nineteenth century critic called "utterly unfit to be put in the hands of girls"!

🍨 spend more time with yourself: self care, do your skincare despite being tired, reflect on your day/month/year, shadow work, wake up earlier, paint your nails, journal

🍨 mindfulness: meditate, affirm, live in the assumption, high vibrational music, practice gratitude

🍨 take care of your body: stretch, pilates, yoga, drink 2L of water, don't skip meals, limit caffeine, sleep 8h

🍨 consistency: morning and night routine, study daily, practice spanish and BSL, have non negotiable tasks, calendar, reminders, reward yourself

🍨 space: keep tidy, deep clean, fresh air, organised folders + notes, real friends

🍨 educate yourself: study outside the curriculum, learn about history, cultures, politics, keep up to date with what's going on in the world

🍨 spirituality: get in touch with your morals, energy, manifest and set intentions, follow the moon, learn about the universe, study religions

𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝜗𝜚⋆₊˚

🍨 live in the present and be kind to yourself, don't punish yourself for falling back into bad habits but pick yourself back up again.

🍨 don't compare your journey to others. be the best version of yourself for yourself.

We’re never making it out of the patriarchy dog because what do you mean jameela Jamil went and did an interview with a conservative paper, and then when the interviewer AS WELL AS THE WHOLE TEAM WORKING ON IT treated her badly, she wrote a whole stubstack article implying that women are catty and that she’s only being interviewed by men now because they always have “give her a fair chance” .
