I have to rant about this part of A Study in Scarlet because... it seems to me that Holmes didn't just discover the hemoglobin test at the moment Stamford and Watson walked in. It seems more like he seized the first opportunity to tell ANYONE. Like he simply couldn't contain his joy and desperately needed to share it with an audience. He actually BOWS after giving Watson a demonstration.

Also... "I found it!" are the first words Watson hears from Holmes. He may as well mean "it" to be Watson. He's found IT: his audience, his best friend, his soul mate. His path in life.

This first interaction sets the pattern for their entire relationship: Holmes performing for the best and most high-value audience one could hope for while Watson gets front row tickets to the greatest show on earth. Five stars.

hey has anyone tried to buy a covid test lately. because i just had to buy one for a friend at my local walgreens and the cashier very seriously asked me if i was sure i wanted it because. a 2-pack of tests currently costs $23.99. do we not think that it's a little insane that the only reliable diagnostic tool for a very much ongoing pandemic costs over $20 for a single package. what if I didn't have that kind of money to burn??? Especially if you're already facing potentially losing at least a weeks worth of pay if you DO test positive and can't work. How many people are going to see that price point and decide they can't justify the expense??? literally insane. remember that brief moment of sanity this country had when we all got these for free

do you think it's weird or unfounded to not want to use chat gpt due to the environmental cost? i feel really strongly that i want to completely avoid it (and, like, recreational/work related ai in general) for that reason, but people seem to think this is really weird when i express that as a reason. but i feel like i should be able to make this call if i want to and that's a good reason to not use it. i don't know?!?!?! i don't get anything anymore?!?!?!

ok but, cocaine-fueled gay orgies sounds exactly like something u.s. republicans would have accused people who supported same-sex marriage of advocating for in 2007. you know, like the kind of fear-mongering that's like, "legalizing gay marriage will lead to your kids having drug-fueled gay orgies!" jeremy could not have chosen a more politically damaging scandal to be a part of if he had tried. especially since grandpa wilshire is a texas senator.

so like, even if andrew had heard about Cocaine-ga(y)te, i wouldn't blame him for ignoring it because it does sound like a bullshit conservative gossip rag headline.

on the other hand, it would mean it's pretty significant that the trojans and the coaches all supported jeremy unequivocally through the scandal. because back then, there was a "right" and "wrong" way to be queer. sexual promiscuity, perceived or real, was not looked upon favourably. people, even lgbtq folks, didn't want to be associated with those that were perceived to be fitting the "promiscuous queer" stereotype. so the fact that they all stuck by him is really very nice

but what if i tell you that jack is a history professor in a modern au! what if i tell you that he's far from an intellectual but he finds fascination in history because they're just another form of storytelling, of the multifaceted heart of man, and that it's not a matter of intellect but of preserving memory and understanding humanity? He's the type of professor who asks his students to choose a topic, reenact it like a mini-theater in his own classroom, so his students can situate themselves in the shoes of figures from the past and further their understanding and empathy for events of the past, as well as why actions are morally right or wrong. and what if i tell you that outside of being the Coolest Professor(TM) there is, he takes care of preschool kids and volunteers at community programs because his love for stories began because of the fairytales he'd tell his little sister at night? he's quite literally everywhere at once bc he likes to be involved and try out different interests. what then. what then!

in black myth wukong, do you think Erlang Shen is open to starting a relationship with the Destined One or do you think he refrained because that's technically no longer Sun Wukong(his pookie)?

There’s a distinction between DO and SWK in the game that’s understood by the denizens we meet- DO is a monkey of the mountain, and a possible inheritor of SWK, but before he submits himself to become SWK once more he’s a separate entity.

Erlang’s interactions w/ DO show he too sees DO as connected to him but not SWK at all. It also depends on how we understand the soul rekindling to work (in the non-true) endings. We see that the shell remains and another monkey becomes DO, and SWK still doesn’t come back. So it isn’t like DO is how the west understand reincarnations. DO is like a leaf born from SWK’s tree.

I would more personally describe Erlang and DO’s dynamic to be more 伯父 + 侄子, uncle and nephew, similar to SWK and Red boy. With the mentor-goals of Erlang in ensuring DO is strong enough to withstand SWK’s soul.
