Title: Sugar and Tea and Rum
Author: fairytalesandfolklore
Fandom: Teen Wolf (Masterlist)
Relationship: Derek Hale x Stiles Stilinski
AO3 Rating: Teen & Up (a complete collection of author's notes, inspiration credits, content warnings and tags can be found on AO3)
Summary: Stiles discovers that Derek harbors a secret love of sea shanties and keeps turning every lyric into a sexual innuendo. But soon enough, he's just as into them, the two of them spending a scenic road trip down the coast with the stereo on full blast, singing along with the song Wellerman at the top of their lungs (and making out in the back of Derek's car at every rest stop.)
"Sorry, it's just—" Stiles snickers, catching his breath. "These lyrics, man. They're a veritable goldmine of sexual innuendo. I mean, 'one day when the tonguing is done'? What kind of tonguing are we talking about here? Cause if that's how it is, maybe I should think about becoming a sailor. I've certainly got the mouth for it." Derek's brain short-circuits, sweeping right past the obvious swears like a sailor joke and diving headfirst into a fantasy detailing all the ways Stiles could put that mischievous mouth of his to good use.
Read On AO3 | Read On Tumblr:
In an effort to get the whole pack together for one last end-of-summer hurrah before they all head back to college, Lydia invites everyone to come stay at her beach house for a weekend getaway. And because everyone else is all coupled up — Scott and Allison with Lydia and Jackson in one car, Erica and Boyd with Isaac and Danny in another — Stiles and Derek get stuck together in the carpool. And since Derek absolutely refuses to subject himself to Stiles's Jeep, convinced the "absolute deathtrap" won't survive the trip, they have no choice but to take the Camaro.
Which is how the two of them end up squished into the cozy confines of the cab, Derek so distracted by the thought of Stiles shirtless, sunkissed, and soaked in saltwater that he nearly crashes every time Stiles so much as looks in his direction, while Stiles runs on a 50/50 blend of too many espresso shots and nervous energy as he fidgets in the passenger seat and drums out a steady beat against the dashboard, lamenting the fact that he'd left all of his mixed CDs in the Jeep, because what he desperately wants right now is some classic 90's summer pop to set the mood.
"Why don't you just play something from your phone?" Derek suggests with an air of mild impatience. "This car's got bluetooth. I'm sure I can stomach your terrible taste in music for—" he glances down at his phone to check the map, and huffs out a groan. "Ugh, we've still got another two and a half hours until we get there."
"Oh, ha-ha," Stiles retorts, rolling his eyes. "Can't believe I'm stuck in a car with a guy who thinks *NSYNC was just okay."
"You're never going to let that go, are you?" Derek sighs. "I told you, I just think Backstreet Boys was better, that's all."
"Heathen."
"I mean, come on, you can't top Everybody."
"Oh, but I can try," Stiles smirks, arching his eyebrows suggestively.
"Stiles," Derek says his name like it's a curse.
And really, Derek should have known that Stiles would find a way to make that sound dirty.
"No, you're right. I'm probably more of a bottom," he adds with a mock-thoughtful tap against his chin, delighting in the delicate blush that curls its way across Derek's cheekbones.
He grips the steering wheel until his knuckles turn white and grumbles, "Oh my god, will you just connect your phone and pick a damn song already?"
"I would, but my piece of shit phone deleted all of my playlists, and I have like, no service out here."
Stiles sighs, turning his attention to the rolling landscape framed in the passenger's side window — mountains towering toward cloudy skies whipping past them in a blur of green and blue, summer breeze perfumed with the scent of orange and jasmine blossoms as they wind their way through a sea of citrus groves — and contents himself with the fact that at least the view, both inside and outside of the Camaro, is breathtaking.
A solid weight lands in his lap, and Stiles glances down in time to see Derek offering him his phone. Stiles blinks up at him, confused.
"You can use mine," he says.
"You have playlists?"
"I have youtube."
Stiles nods and gives him an appreciative smile, a warm glow settling in the center of his chest as he cradles Derek's phone in his hands like it's a precious thing. They've known each other for years now, but every subtle gesture of trust still takes him by surprise sometimes.
Stiles opens the app, scrolling through his mental rolodex to figure out which upbeat boy band classic he should start with first (read: which one he thinks he could badger Derek into duetting with him) when he accidentally clicks on something in Derek's browser history, and—
"What is this?" Stiles asks as a deep, rumbling voice with a thick accent hums through the speakers.
"It's a sea shanty," Derek says with a casual shrug.
Stiles gapes at him.
"You. Derek Hale. Listen to sea shanties," he says.
Derek shrugs again. "I like it when they harmonize."
Stiles practically vibrates with glee.
"This is awesome. You just keep getting more and more interesting the more layers I unravel."
Derek pretends to scoff and roll his eyes, but Stiles can tell by the subtle twitch of his lips that he's secretly pleased.
As for Stiles, he's smiling so hard his face hurts. He can't help it. He doesn't even know why this is so amusing to him. Before he knows it, he's concocting a whole Derek The Sailor fantasy in his head, crisp white form-fitting uniform drenched in a crash of ocean waves, the chiseled muscles of his arms flexing as he weighs anchor and hoists the sails, sun glistening off the beads of sweat clinging to his bare chest, and— oh, this slipped into dangerous territory real fast. Oh god, oh fuck, he can't let Derek know he's having secret seafaring fantasies about him while he's literally sitting right next to him, close enough for Derek to hear the sudden spike in his heartbeat. Shit, he's in trouble. Quick, think of something non-sexual—
"I'm sorry, did he just say 'blow me'?" Stiles blurts out around a pearl-clutching gasp.
Derek heaves a long-suffering sigh.
"He says 'blow, comma, me bully boys, blow'," Derek corrects him. "It's a seafaring term."
Stiles stifles a laugh, because he's still a sarcastic asshole with the mentality of a twelve year old. Curiosity piqued, he pulls up google and looks up the rest of the lyrics.
A sharp burst of laughter nearly makes Derek swerve into the minivan in the lane next to them, and there he goes again, barking Stiles's name like it's the king of swear words, his entire face just one big frown.
I've certainly got the mouth for it."
Derek's brain short-circuits, sweeping right past the obvious swears like a sailor joke and diving headfirst into a fantasy detailing all the ways Stiles could put that mischievous mouth of his to good use.
"Stiles," Derek says warningly, gripping the steering wheel in an effort to not run them off the road.
"I'm not trying to offend, I swear," Stiles insists, holding his hands up in surrender. "I just think it's funny."
Derek levels him with a pointed glare.
"You do know the song's about battling a whale and that 'tonguing' means butchering, right?" Derek asks, arching an eyebrow.
Stiles pales.
"Oh god. Okay, then I definitely do not want to experience that kind of tonguing," Stiles amends with a grimace and a sharp shake of his head.
"Granted," he adds with a melodramatic sigh. "After all the shit we've been through over the years, that's probably the only kind of 'tonguing' I'm ever going to get, so…"
There's silence for a moment, and then Derek hums thoughtfully and says, "I'll see what I can do to remedy that," a roguish smile curling across his lips as he arches his eyebrows suggestively, and Stiles chokes on air.
They make a quick pit stop at the next exit to stock up on snacks, and absolutely do not spend a full twenty minutes making out in the back seat.
(Okay, fine. An hour.)
• • •
Sunset finds the two of them beating a steady rhythm against the dashboard and the steering wheel, twin beatific grins plastered across their ruddy faces, singing at the top of their lungs with the stereo cranked to the max, Stiles taking the melody, Derek the harmony.
"SOON MAY THE WELLERMAN COME
TO BRING US SUGAR AND TEA AND RUM
ONE DAY WHEN THE TONGUIN' IS DONE
WE'LL TAKE OUR LEAVE AND GO"
Over the course of the next couple of days, Lydia comes to regret keeping her liquor cabinets well-stocked with a variety of rum, and asking if anyone wants sugar in their tea gets taboo'd faster than you-know-who in Deathly Hallows, because any time any one of them even so much as hums a single bar, the whole thing starts right back up again with an obnoxiously giddy Stiles and Derek chanting at the top of their lungs with no regard for the time of night, before collapsing against each other in a fit of giggles and stolen kisses, until the rest of the pack is so fed up with their shit, they're threatening to chuck them both into the sea and make it look like a whaling accident.

Almond Bread Pudding

This Almond Bread Pudding, hearty and delicately sweet, flavoured with almond and rum, makes excellent use of stale bread and an excellent dessert and afternoon treat! Happy Thursday!
Ingredients (serves 4 to 6):
¼ cup sultanas
¼ cup good quality white rum (like Guadeloupe’s Damoiseau)
1 litre/4 cups Almond Milk
1 plump vanilla bean
350 grams/12.35 ounces stale Sourdough Bread and/or Baguette
1/2 cup caster sugar
3 large eggs
½ tablespoon unsalted butter
Spoon sultanas into a small bowl. Cover with white rum, and allow to soak, several hours (at least a couple.)
Pour milk in a medium saucepan.
Halve vanilla bean and scrape its seeds off. Add vanilla seeds and empty pod to the Almond Milk, and heat over a low flame.
Tear Bread and Baguette into large chunks into a large bowl. Sprinkle generously with caster sugar.
Once the milk is just simmering, pour over the Bread and Baguette chunks, discarding empty pod. Give a good stir with a wooden spoon, to combine. Cover with a tea towel and allow to rest, 15 to 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 180°C/355°F. Generously butter a pie plate.
Once the Bread and Baguette have soaked up most of the milk, and the mixture has cooled, break in the eggs, and mix well. Stir in reserved sultanas and their rum.
Gently spoon mixture into prepared pie plate, levelling with the back of the wooden spoon. Scatter small chunks of butter liberally on top. Place in the middle of the warm oven, and bake, at 180°C/355°F, 1 hour and a quarter to 1 hour and a half, until nicely golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Serve Almond Bread Pudding warm or cooled.

[Arcane Preference] And Their Favorite Hot Drink

Every time I say I want to make at least three, and every time it takes me a month to make three. But between today and tomorrow, I want to post something else with a cozy/winter theme, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, in my little self-promotion corner, I'll let you know that you can find my fanart here, and here you can find a fanfiction I'm working on, if you want to check out my other projects!
socials: | INPRNT | | Tip Jar | | X | | BlueSky | | Ao3 |
Jayce:
Hot tea.
With lots of cookies, not just one or two like nobles who drink tea to be chic.
He drinks tea because it makes the cookies taste better and softer.
And if I told you he prefers fruity tea?
Basically, he likes a strong flavor, and fruity teas have the most aroma, although having grown up as the Kirammans’ ward, he’s learned to drink it in any form.
Viktor:
Sweet milk.
Or milk and honey.
Occasionally, milk, coffee, caramel, and whipped cream if he wants to be fancy, but he never has the time, so it’s usually just sweet milk.
He has such a stockpile that statistically, at least one bottle is expired, but it doesn’t matter; he doesn’t pay attention to those things.
Ekko:
Cappuccino. It’s quick, it’s hot, it gives energy, and the milk makes it sweet enough without adding sugar.
Easy to find and great for the group because it’s not expensive—just steal an industrial-sized can of milk and some instant coffee, and he can make it for more than 20 people.
Tea is problematic because there are no plants in Zaun, and in Piltover, they either sell it in small doses or loose.
Vander:
Hot chocolate, because I say so.
This man was born to be a father, and what do kids love? Hot chocolate.
Hard to come by in Zaun, which is why he always adds chocolate bars or cocoa powder as an extra price in his smuggling deals.
It became his favorite because of the connection it has with his kids and his happy place.
Silco:
Whiskey doesn’t count as a hot drink, and that’s a bit of a problem.
But luckily, coffee exists.
Not American coffee, long and watered down, but espresso.
He holds the small cup in his hands to warm himself, but subtly enough that no one notices.
Jinx:
Sugar.
Not a hot drink, sure, but any drink works for her if it has enough sugar.
Milk and honey remind her of when she was little, tied to special occasions when her parents actually managed to get honey.
But pretty much anything works for her: fruity teas with three tablespoons of sugar, hot chocolate with one spoonful, cappuccino with two…
Vi:
Anything works for her as long as the cup is big enough to warm her hands.
Simple and easy-to-find drinks are great, sure, but no one can convince me her favorite drink isn’t either hot chocolate with rum or a complex, spiced Piltover-style beverage.
She doesn’t mind sweetness but never adds sugar to her drinks—she’d rather choose something with natural sweet notes.
Caitlyn:
Tea.
English breakfast tea with sugar and milk is something her parents made her during festive mornings, so it holds sentimental value.
But the tea she’s used to drinking is Oolong or Yorkshire, typical of the five o’clock tea tradition with her mother and occasionally their guests.
Mel:
Coffee and variations.
In my little artist brain, Piltover has an ethical equivalent of Starbucks, and that café is Mel’s happy place.
Coffee is easier to find for sure, but coffee-based drinks with caramel, ginger, and plant-based milk are absolutely her favorite.
She loves sipping them slowly, savoring the flavors, taking half an hour or more to finish her cup.
Sevika:
Whiskey.
No, she won’t accept that it doesn’t count as a hot drink.
She doesn’t like milk, but if she’s forced to have it, she spikes it with whiskey or gin.
The same goes for hot chocolate.
She’s not a coffee person either; she doesn’t see the point of drinking something so bitter without a real purpose.

now playing ♪ undressed by sombr
"i don't want the children of another man
to have the eyes of the girl i won't forget"
cw: mention of drugs (?), mentions of alcohol, panda wants the smoke

“Man, they really toned this place down.”
The group stepped into the converted warehouse—now aglow in fairy lights and dipped in the warm, hazy hum of cheap rum, sandalwood incense, and stale beer that had permanently embedded itself in the walls. It was crowded already, a sea of half-drunken conversations and low laughter echoing through the open space as people milled about, waiting for the set to start.
Maki let out a slow, sentimental sigh. “Damn. That corner over there?” She pointed dramatically. “That’s where Yn used to do lines off Kirara’s ass. Simpler times.”
“Can you not say that in front of the toddler?” Yuuta hissed, adjusting his hold on Yume, who was curled up in his arms with her panda plush and oversized headphones.
“She’s wearing noise-cancelling,” Maki shot back. “And probably doesn’t even know what an ass is.”
“I’m literally right here,” Yn said dryly.
“Exactly,” Maki replied, smirking.
“Did we have to come for the opening set?” Panda grumbled, steering them toward an open table mid-venue. “The opener’s probably better than the headliner. Nepo babies always fall flat.” Toge argued.
“What about Gracie Abrams?” Panda challenged.
“That’s exactly who I’m talking about,” Toge replied, dropping his bag beside the booth and flopping into his seat.
“Wow,” Yn said, running a hand along the edge of the polished table. “They even gave the tables real seats now. No more repurposed milk crates.”
“I kinda miss the milk crates,” Maki shrugged.
“I’m hitting the bar. Usuals?” Toge asked, already standing.
“Two vodka cranberries, a cosmopolitan, a rum and coke, a Long Island iced tea, and a water?” Panda listed off.
Yuuta blinked. “You’re starting the night with two vodka cranberries?”
“One’s for Yume,” Toge said flatly.
Yn snorted. “Strawberry lemonade for her. Sugar after seven. Aren't I good mama Yu?”
“The best,” Yume chirped, reaching her arms out.
Yn scooped her into her lap and pressed a kiss into the crown of her freshly done hair. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
“Who’s opening, anyway?” Maki asked, checking her reflection in the compact mirror from her phone case.
“Miwa,” Yuuta started, then frowned. “Wait, no. No, she’s still out with mono from some guy she made out with at that jazz club in Tokyo. She’s been sidelined for two weeks.”
“So what, they’re dragging out some forgotten intern from the closet?” Panda asked, unimpressed.
Yuuta shrugged. “Maybe. Kyoto doesn’t have as many artists as the Tokyo location, and I didn’t check the lineup. I’ve been behind on internal memos.”
“Great,” Maki deadpanned. “Can’t wait to be serenaded by someone’s emotionally constipated SoundCloud find.”
“Could be worse,” Yn muttered, taking a sip of her water. “Could be your ex.”
Maki raised a brow, smirking. “God, imagine. No way she ever made it off SoundCloud. She wanted to be Beabadobee so bad.”
Toge returned with a tray balanced carefully in his hands, distributing drinks like a seasoned bartender. A water and strawberry lemonade in front of Yn, a cosmo for Maki, Long Island iced tea for Panda, and a rum and coke for Yuuta.
“See? This is nice,” Yuuta said, settling back into his seat with a smile. “Going out in your twenties doesn’t have to mean clubs and crowded house parties.”
Panda scoffed. “Please. I’m twenty-six. For me it's clubs and boat parties.”
“You’re twenty-six,” Yn said flatly, “why are you still going to those?”
“I’m twenty-six, not fifty,” he shot back.
“Could’ve fooled me with those smile lines.”
Panda blinked. “You wanna go? Because I don’t care if you’ve got your kid in your lap, she can get some of this two. These hands are rated E for everyone.”
Before Yn could fire back, the lights dimmed.
A hush fell over the room as stage lights slowly warmed the crowd in amber.
“Welcome to The Gutter!” the host called out from the mic stand. Applause followed. A few whistles. The faint clink of glasses.
“Tonight, Limitless Records has been kind enough to lend us one of their newest artists. Mimiko! We are so excited to have her here let’s give her a warm welcome.”
Another wave of claps rolled through the space.
“But first,” the host added with a grin, “we’ve got a little surprise for you. He took a break from prepping for his first-ever tour, sold out all over the continent, just to be here tonight. Kyoto’s own—Wait for May!”
The name hit like a fist to the chest.
The cheers were deafening, probably. The applause definitely got louder. Her friends’ heads snapped to her. Even Yume clapped enthusiastically in her lap, the little headphones still wrapped snug around her ears though she was starting to suspect they weren't even on.
But Yn didn’t hear any of it.
The room blurred, light and noise folding in on itself. Her breath caught, like her lungs had forgotten how to work. The weight of Yume on her legs felt distant, like a memory. The table, the drinks, the chatter, they all slid out of focus.
There was nothing.
Just the echo of a name she hadn’t said out loud in years, ringing in her ears like a song she used to love but couldn’t bear to listen to anymore.
Not now.
Not like this.
The lights shifted again—warm gold bleeding into a haze of blue and lavender as the stage darkened, save for the soft glow surrounding the mic stand.
She didn’t look up.
Didn’t need to.
There were too many things her body remembered before her brain could catch up. The hum of the stage. The soft shuffle of movement. That voice.
“Hey,” Megumi said, smooth and low, the sound pulled into a dozen speakers. “Thanks for showing up tonight.”
Just that. Nothing flowery. No dramatic build-up. But it knocked the air out of her anyway.
God. That voice.
It hadn’t changed, just matured. Gotten steadier. Like him.
Yn kept her gaze locked somewhere just left of the stage. On the condensation gathering around her lemonade glass. On the way Maki’s nails clicked lightly against her cosmopolitan. On her daughter, small and wriggling in her lap, still clapping in sync with the rest of the crowd through her little pink headphones.
She could feel all their eyes on her. Maki. Yuuta. Even Toge. Waiting. Watching. Holding their breath.
But she didn’t say a word.
“This one’s old,” Megumi said, clearing his throat. “I wrote it back when I didn’t know what I was doing. Or how to say what I meant. Still don’t, most of the time.” A light chuckle from the stage. “Anyway. This song’s called undressed.”
That was the moment her heart dropped.
The soft rise of the synth kicked in behind him. The live band settled into place, drums low, steady. Keys soft and glittery like water under moonlight.
Undressed.
Of all his songs, he started with that one?
Yn swallowed hard. Her hands were shaking now. Not visibly. Just enough that she had to tighten her grip around Yume’s waist.
He’d written undressed when they were barely legal. When they shared too-small beds in even smaller apartments, when love felt like a fever and survival meant pretending that was enough. It wasn’t one of his hits. Not the one people quoted or stitched into TikToks or tattooed in cursive across their ribs.
But it was the realest thing he ever made. Because he made it for her. Though she never remembered him actually finishing it.
And now he was up there, clean-cut, styled within an inch of his life, spotlights dancing across his jawline, and singing a song she helped him write without ever touching a pen.
Yuuta leaned in close. “Say the word and I’ll get you out of here.”
Yn didn’t answer.
She just kept her eyes forward.
She had to stay.
Had to hear how it ended.
The first note rang out.
And Yn. In all she was. Mother, former addict, reformed lover-girl turned podcast host, closed her eyes.
Because this wasn’t something she could watch. Not when the song he never finished was once about her.
And still was.

He wasn’t really looking for her.
Not because he didn’t want to see her—he did, he always did, even when it hurt. Especially when it hurt.
But five years was a long time.
And he’d convinced himself, over and over, that if she was there, he’d miss her. Or worse, he wouldn’t recognize her.
Because maybe she’d grown into someone else.
Someone better.
Someone whole.
But then halfway through undressed, on a note he held too long because his hands were trembling behind the mic stand, he saw her.
Near the middle, just off-center. Lit by the warm glow of the stage lights. Still. Still in that way only she could be. Like a stone dropped in water. Like silence with a pulse.
At first, he thought he was hallucinating. A trick of the light. A cruel mirage of his own guilt. But it was her.
And she was different. Healthier. Steadier. Glowing, maybe. Not the kind of glow they sell in skincare ads, but the kind that came with surviving. The kind that came from choosing to live.
God. She looked like she’d finally forgiven herself. And it gutted him that she had to do that without him.
In her lap sat a little girl, clapping gently along with the music, stuffed panda crushed against her chest and a pair of headphones tucked over her ears. A cup of some kind of pink drink, she kept tapping her mother for permission to take sips from. Yn leaned down to whisper something to her, and the girl tilted her head up and smiled, and it was—
—it was someone else’s kid.
Of course it was.
Why wouldn’t it be?
He missed the next chord.
Just barely. Just enough.
His fingers recovered. The band didn’t falter. But his breath caught, and the line came out thinner than it should’ve.
He kept singing.
Kept his face neutral, soft, even as his heart cracked open in real time.
Because what did he expect? That she’d pause her life? Wait in suspended animation while he chased a future he’d once promised would be theirs?
He knew he had no right to feel it, but it burned all the same—jealousy. Bitter and sharp.
Of the man who got to love her when she was ready to be loved.
Of the version of her that healed without him.
Of the little girl in her lap who had a place in her world that he would never earn back.
It wasn’t fair.
Not that she moved on. Not that she was okay. But that she looked happy. And she hadn’t looked at him once.
He tried not to. He really did. But his gaze kept crawling back to her like a wound he couldn’t stop reopening.
She didn’t even blink in his direction.
She wasn’t frozen or flustered or overwhelmed. She just was. Existing without him, like it had never hurt her. Like he hadn’t torn her in half and left her to stitch herself back together with nothing but spite and half-sincere apologies.
She was here.
And Yuji was right. She was beautiful.
And she had someone else’s kid in her lap. Just as beautiful as she was.
And Megumi Fushiguro, up on that stage with a mic in his hand and a crowd screaming his name, had never felt more unknown.
More irrelevant.
More like a ghost in a room he used to belong to.
So he did the only thing he could.
He kept singing. He kept standing. He kept pretending like he wasn’t unraveling from the inside out. But every word felt heavier now. Every note a reminder. Every lyric a lie he’d once promised would be a truth.
He kept singing.
Pretending she was just another stranger in the crowd.
And hating himself for every reason she wasn’t.
And he knew.

for this chapter specifically I would recommend listening to the song bc I was not about to write out the lyrics he's singing
yuuta never turned on yume's headphones like he was supposed to
they stayed for the whole set but clocked out after wet dreams and went to 7/11
listen to the lyrics of wet dreams by sundiver ca and you'll understand why
yn doesn't know why she didn't suspect megumi could also be in town when she found out yuji was but she curses herself for not doing so
megumi likes to act nonchalant but when it comes to yn he doesn't have a single nonchalant bone in his body and it's hard for him to hide that
Also I wanna say now I described Melon milk as an actual carton when it's more like a juice box and isn't even in the fridge. I just liked my description better sorry.

Cooking like a Sailor- Frisian teatime
Today it's going to be a bit Friesian again and this time the delicious treats come mainly from the North Sea islands and Halligen, where they usually originated before they floated ashore and were eaten or drunk there.
Now that we are approaching autumn with great strides, there are such delicacies. This was the time when many of the seafaring men returned home, which meant a rich harvest of specialities from foreign countries and often also the weddings were hold which were arranged the year before.
But let's start with the drink: tea punch, just the thing for the wet and cold season when it's stormy and raining outside.
Ingredients: Black tea, köm and kluntjes (brown sugar candy).
But even more important than the right ingredients are the way it is prepared and consumed. If you are in a hurry, you have no place at the tea punch table!
The tea punch is served as follows: The teapot is placed on the teapot warmer and the pre-heated bottle of Köm is placed on the table. Don't be surprised: the tea punch cups are tiny. This has nothing to do with stinginess, but with cosiness. And this is how it works: Pour tea into the cup, add a dash of köm and sugar to taste. Listen to the Kluntjes crack, stir and drink hot. Have a chat and then top up again.
This drink has existed on the islands since 1735, when a ship with tea chests stranded off Amrum at Theeknobs, although at the beginning there was no knowledge of how to prepare the tea leaves. As a result, the tea was drunk quite thinly, which was also due to the fact that tea was something special that was not always available, just like schnapps. Köm is a spirit similar to aquavit with caraway seeds. The yellow (geele) Köm is particularly common in the North Frisian region. This is a spirit, usually made with grain, which is mixed with caraway and sometimes with a hint of aniseed.
The tea punch was of course also known on ships, but here the köm was swapped for rum and the punch was used to warm up rather than for chatting. Sailors preferred to do this on land.
What do you serve with tea? Hallig Knorken or Friesenwaffeln are best. This wafer-thin delicacy has been around since the 16th century thanks to the Dutch who settled in northern Germany. They were light waffles that were made with rum and then served with plum jam and cream. Again, these delicacies were either brought by the men or had to be bartered or bought on the land, as the islands and Halligen did not have huge areas of land available for agriculture and so there was a lot of trade with the delicacies from the sea.

Ingredients for 4 people (this is the modern recipe) 4 eggs 200g sugar 250g butter 300g flour 3-4 tsp. cornflour 50ml rum 1 packet of vanilla sugar 1 pinch of salt
Bake the waffles in an iron and then serve hot with plum jam and cream.
Now we come to the highlight of every festive table - the Friesentorte. This magnificent cake is truly a precious piece. Because it requires valuable ingredients that were not always available back then and were therefore more likely to be found on festive tables. It is not known when it has been around, but probably since the 19th century, thanks to the sailors who brought many recipes with them from other countries. Like puff pastry, for example.
Today's variations also work with shortcrust pastry, but are not the original recipe
Recipe
Bake two puff pastry bases (you can use ready-made pastry) Brush one of the bases (the top) with egg yolk and sprinkle with caster sugar Leave the second (base) plain After baking, spread the base generously with plum jam Spread not too little whipped cream on the plum jam base Cut the top into 12 even pieces and then arrange the pieces on top.
The wealthier the family the more the cake would consist of several layers. Which made eating even more complicated, because how do you eat this monster without smearing cream all over your face? Well, you take the lid off, eat the inside and nibble the lid separately.
So there you have it and I wish you a delicious tea time of a different kind. Enjoy your tea and your tasty treats like real Frisians.

Thoughts on Scents

So I wanted to just give my thoughts on some interesting scent options, because no hate to sandalwood, it seems like everyone always smells like it in fics. And since I also have an indie perfume obsession, I wanted to share some scents that may broaden people's horizons. I may do a part two depending on how well I like how this turned out.
Pine resin, with hints of wood smoke, and warm brandy.
The smell of damp fresh earth after a summer rain.
Palo santo, dry desert grasses, and sage
Amber, laudanum, and frankincense
Tobacco, burnt grasses, with hints of citrus
Pine needles, forest floor, and stone
Saltwater, ambergris, fresh rain, beach sand
Stone, oakmoss, clay, and wet concrete
Animal fur musk, mulled wine, and a cold winter breeze
Freshly washed linen, lemon cakes, and black tea
Coconut, dark rum, and sugarcane
Leather bound books, a dying fire, and cedar
A crisp fall evening, apple orchards, and toasted marshmallows
Magnolias, Spanish moss, and honeysuckle
Sun warmed earth, tomato plants, and iced tea
Cactus flowers, sweet grass, and wood dry vanilla
Lemon grass, heliotrope, and sugar cookies
Dead leaves, dry hay, and cognac
And that's no even touching on all the different kinds of plants, flowers, and foods. I could go on for a very long time.

tall glass of liqueur perhaps
i love when fic writers who have clearly never tried any kind of alcohol in their lives try to write someone drinking bc they're always like
"he ordered a tall glass of hard liquor. after three large glasses he was feeling tipsy" like babygirl i can't be sure but i think u just sent this man to the hospital
#long island iced tea is a mixed drink#that is different#it *has* hard liquor *in* it (a lot) but it is diluted with water and sugar#if you drank that amount of like. scotch. straight up. you would die.#but yeah people who don't drink struggle a lot with the distinctions#even people who drink have trouble!#the number of people who expect beer to be flammable.......#rum is sometimes sweet and sometimes golden though!#could be rum#just. don't drink that by the pint pls.

• The Poison Green – (Spinach, arugula, avocado, walnut and basil dressing salad, as fresh as it is lethal)

• Bane's Big Bite – (Chili with meat and melted cheese, because surviving in Gotham requires a main course)
• Shiva's Hair – (Noodle soup with spicy broth, pork and egg, as lethal as its creator)
• Freeze Fries – (French fries with cheese and ranch dressing, always served cold, but with a warm heart)
Honestly I was too lazy to put prices on the rest of them, but I had fun naming them.
Well, my brother told me "You should put copyright on it" and I really don't want to, but, if you ever make any of my desserts and/or use any of the names I'd like you to send me a picture of it, and be tagged, other than that you're free to use any, and since I see you want ALL O_o the recipes, I'll post them on my personal account and tag them here, because I refuse to have so many recipes here, I have to scroll down too far to find my past posts
