the series is not necessarily permanently dead, but it is not currently happening because it stopped being a fun educational diversion for me and turned into a tedious monthly slog

the myths were extremely fun for me to make and research at a certain point in my life, but my focus has since shifted to a broader and deeper-scoped interest in the evolution of storytelling as a whole, making finding and summarizing individual tales without greater context or analysis increasingly unrewarding for me. there's a more in-depth analysis and explanation in the video.

this is also something that really stressed me out at the time because I was worried that by stopping this series I was letting down the people who'd gotten invested in it, which is honestly probably why it took me over a year to accept that I wasn't having any fun making them. they had been fun once, rewarding, energizing, and it really scared me to think I was outgrowing being able to make something so many people liked. I had no idea what would happen. I didn't know how much of our audience was only sticking around for the shortform snark about mythical doofs who died stupid.

that said, there hasn't been a new misc myth in eight months and apparently nobody who missed the announcement even noticed.

Am I the only one who gets straight up infuriated when I see this post and the number of notes it has? I know it's not very Kumbaya of me but yeah it does piss me off how many thousands upon thousands of Hamas supporters will reblog posts about how Jews support THEM but god fucking forbid we ask them to stop straight up celebrating antisemitic terrorism.

Literally not a single post about antisemitism has even broken 1k notes since Oct 7th (unless it's about Elon Musk, who they already hate). It's unlikely any post about purely Jewish issues will ever recieve this kind of attention ever again. I don't know man. It makes me angry. I've been struggling with how to write this out, but the ask box closing gave me an excuse to sit down and make an official attempt at it. Apologies if it's long but I don't think I can compact it without missing some points I wanted to ramble about

I downloaded and played Astronought back in November. I love all its little details, and of course Atom itself.

From the purposefully misspelled title (nought like not/nothing instead of naut like nautical), to how utterly charming Atom is (their general mannerisms, and their laugh… sounds like chittering……), this game is something that has stuck itself in my head

After getting my first ending (route?) it was too late to play a second one & I ended up in the files (wanting to get more of them and this was the easiest way. also curiosity), and THE FILE NAMES? I'M SANE. ABOUT THE FILE NAMES. (Finding out my favorite CG was named "whipped" was very funny, because YEAH. IT TRULY IS, ISN'T IT.) The music that was ALREADY my favorite present in the game AND REALIZING IT'S NAMED "IT SIGHS AND YEARNS AND BEGS TO RETURN" IN THE FILES? YOU REALLY HAD TO DO THAT TO ME, HUH. Very fitting, I applaud you for tugging my heartstrings. At first the SFX named "your favorite" confused me. Until it hit me that it's the lights changing to your favorite colour. ITS THE. AGUHHH. I thought that was a very neat detail and I enjoyed figuring that one out. There's a lot of names in there that I had fun looking over, even if they weren't really meant to be looked at by the average player (?) The game's backgrounds are very well done, too. All of them feel very cohesive :]

Now, onto Atom themselves. Your honour, the worms have unfortunately charmed me. NOT TO MENTION THEY'RE JUST SO FASCINATING? ALL THEIR LITTLE QUIRKS AND EVERY LITTLE FACT. I have a great many questions that I've managed to forget while typing this but I'll try to write them down next time I remember them. However. I love how inhuman they truly are. Their diet is different (THEY can eat kibble, why can't you), their morals are different (murder is okay if it's in retaliation, etc. etc.) HOW THEY CAN GAIN INFORMATION BY EFFECTIVELY CONSUMING SOMEONE? THEY CAN CHANGE THEMSELVES TO BE DIFFERENT MATTERS???? The fact they may as well be buzzing at any form of affection you offer them (They pause when you offer to shake their hand and practically vibrate when you pat them on the shoulder) while still usually being restrained enough to avoid possible issues (it's noted the worms have an odd texture in game, and they don't immediately jump you and instead gingerly wrap a single worm around your finger) is,. oughg I LOVE THE REASON THEY CALL YOU LUNA NOVA, TOO. IT'S ADORABLE Even when they're being a bit more fucked up I still adore them. I got the softer route at first (couldn't say no to them, even if it was a bit illogical in the current situation), and even when I went back for the other route (and by god is that likely a different impression) it just made me MORE interested in it. I could go on.

I went into playing the game knowing the twist, I will admit, but the scene of the reveal was still quite impactful! (possibly quite literally. Atom did take a blunt force hit there) Not to mention how enthralled I got in the escape pod section. It delivered on the tense atmosphere quite well! Each scene was a good build up to the true reveal of what they are and writing this out makes me want to play it again I won't lie to you

Speaking of that general section, Moon Waltz. I got curious and I ended up screenshotting the lyrics it mentions (because I couldn't tear myself away from that moment to look it up right then) and afterwards looking it up (I found it very fitting for it to mention THAT lyric of all of them. think I said something similar out loud). I ended up listening to the song and got it stuck in my head for nearly 3 weeks straight. It's still one of my favorites to this day :]

Even when I tried getting to bed I was still kept up by writing down little ideas I had for them. I do not think I've ever had a game revive my spark of creativity as fast as Astronought did. I still have a lot of those ideas to get to and I honestly hope I do.

Hopefully this wasn't too much, I'm still getting used to telling creators that I love their work and am a bit new to this, but in summary: This game is incredibly charming and has wormed (HAH) its way into my heart. thank you for creating Astronought, and I wish you well on your future game endeavours o/

Working on Astronought last year was meant to be a break from writing MO. I think I manifested something when writing for Atom, they're such a goofy obsessive goober with absurd sci-fi logic almost to the point of comical sometimes and I just had fun with it!!

To think someone noticed all the silly little details that were just meant for me to see when it comes to the file names and references and even the title when I was working on it means so much!! This one is definitely a message I'll come back to over and over, especially for a short one-shot game.

I need to talk about this.

Misha, I think you're a brilliant actor, I love supernatural. But sometimes you really don't know what you're talking about.

This post needs some context. It was posted at 22.6.25 (yesterday) - just a few days after Trump bombed the three nuclear sites in Iran. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not a Trump supporter in any way. This isn't about him.

Now, I'm not only talking about him. This is a message to all of ya'll who think he's right.

The point is that that post is condemning America for the decision to bomb Iran. Iran, or the IRGC, who have publicly stated their intent to bring the destruction of America (and Israel). The IRGC, who had for years illegally continued in research and development of nuclear weapons. The IRGC, who supported and funded terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah for years.

Which, I'm sorry, but What The Fuck.

You say you don't want war. You don't think it's a good idea to bomb a country into stopping creating bombs as self defence. But that's not what Iran is doing.

Iran wants to build nuclear weapons. That's not the fucking same. That's not "using bombs to defend themselves". That's a nice and easy way to annihilate a country, like they were saying they were going to do, without facing consequences, 'cuz the rest of the world is terrified they're going to do it to them.

(Or worse, inciting another world war. I don't think we would want that either)

the current Iranian government is not only dangerous to America and Israel, it's also oppressing it's own people. Ever since the Iranian Revolution in 1979, which resulted in the rising of Khomeini to power, the regime had oppressed its citizens and violated their human rights countless times. Try to remember the protests for Mahsa Amini that everyone talked about not so long ago. Have you all forgotten what the IRGC is capable of?

Of course, I hope the people of Iran will be free of the oppressive government. I hope this will end with as little civilian casualties as possible. But that post isn't about them.

Misha, I assume you were talking about America attacking Iran - because you always conveniently ignored Israel when it came to anything political - but. America didn't just bomb civilian areas. They attacked, very specifically, only nuclear sites. There were no civilian casualties. This wasn't America saying Iran couldn't have any bombs at all, it was trying to make sure they didn't have nuclear weapons. I really, really hope you see why no one would want that.

On a slightly different topic, I have something else to say.

So you don't want war. Okay. You don't think it's a good idea to bomb a country to convince them they don't need bombs to defend themselves.

Hamas and Hezbollah - Iranian proxies, as I'm (not so) sure you know - have threatened Israel for decades now. They are terrorist organizations. They have had a lot of bombs they were more that willing to send against Israel, many times against Israeli civilians and civilian areas.

Israel had been forced to develop an exceptional defence system - Iron Dome, the Arrow system, etc. - in order to protect itself from those threats. In a way, Israel is the perfect example that bombing a country won't convince them that they don't need bombs to defend themselves. But did you ever say anything about that? No?

On October 7, 2023, Hamas had entered Israel, kidnapped more than two hundred people and murdered more than a thousand. Most of the dead were civilians. 50 hostages are still in Gaza. We don't even know how many of them are alive.

But let's see, Misha, what did you say about them? What did you say when all these people were killed and kidnapped?

Oh, right. You didn't.

If you really wanted "No More War", supporting countries that want exactly the opposite maybe isn't such a great idea. And if you don't know what you're talking about, you really should just shut up and find something you know better to talk about.
