Any other diabetics just get super irrational with low sugars?
I went low, for the millionth time this weekend (my diabetes and the hot weather are having some major disagreements). And I tried to open some bread since I was starving and needed the carbs. But the hypo had robbed me of my motor skills so I couldn’t undo the little tab that keeps the bread fresh. And so, at 27 years old, with a masters degree under my belt, I sat in my kitchen and cried. Over bread.........

Upside to CGM: tells you when your blood sugar is low
Downside to CGM: it's kind of an asshole about it

... 3am Diabetes.
Low alert.
Spilled my drink in bed. So changed the sheets. And comforter while I was at it. Cereal for a low snack. This is fine.

Today at school this girl really had the audacity to tell me I was lucky for having diabetes cause I don't have to revise it for GCSE biology.
Wow look at me with 5 easy marks and a life long chronic condition, how lucky.

this would be a great study tip if it wasn't so inaccurate! As a type one diabetic people using blood sugar as a buzz word really frustrastes me.
Nuts have around 10g of carbs per 100g (the stuff that regulates your blood sugar) which is next to nothing. It's a great snack if you're trying to lose weight because you can eat a lot without gaining that much (carbs = slow acting sugars = energy, energy in>energy out = weight gain) but will not help you with keeping yor energy up.
Raisins on the other hand have around 80g of carbs per 100g, meaning if you need a spike of energy raisins are a great way to go! And much better for you as more nutrients than having an energy drink.
Bananas are 30g if carbs per banana so this is an excellent in between, it won't cause you blood sugar to spike and crash (due to fat content and other stuff) but it also has enough carbohydrates to be substantial
Oats are slow releasing! But granola bars that have loads of honey in them will be much less so!
APPLES ARE NOT SLOW RELEASING CARBS!! fruits are full of sugar, one apple has 16 grams of sugar in it. Not carbs, fast acting sugars. They are full of nutrients but other than that you might as well be eating a chocolate bar. There's not such thing as 'healthy sugar' there is just sugar which you need to eat, but ration. You're body does not distinguish between apples and red bull in terms of blood sugar!
I would personally recommend eating some starchy carbs before sitting down and topping then up. I have a couple of slices of toast (just butter no jam or honey) and in my breaks I'll have a handful of nuts, or if I'm getting tired a biscuit.
And all those studyblrs out there: stop pretending you're nutritionalists, stop using buzz words without doing the research, stop giving bad advice because it sounds accurate enough!

Between a Rock and a Hard Refill Place
Whelp, I have 25 units left in my Novolog pen but my insurance company won't let me refill my prescription for 8 more days. Guess it's my fault for not rationing units better this month? So that's where my stress level is at right about now...
Any tips on how to eat <5 g carbs daily for the next week?

Covid caught me......
So, I somehow managed to avoid it for over 2 years but it's finally got me.
So far I'm not doing too bad as people suffering with covid go. I have a throbbing head, nasty throat and cough, a body that feels like it's been run over by a steamroller and limbs that feel like lead weights, and an unshakeable tiredness.
But man alive, my blood sugars 🤦♀️ I'm at a loss, they're everywhere. I have zero control. Honestly, 100 percent do not reccomend this 😂
Send help (remotely so nobody catches anything 😂😂).
Don't let the pricks get you down, and may the hba1c be ever in your favour!

So, I so the cardiologist on Monday. When the dude - b/c it was a dude which is hella awkward when you’re a gal(?) - was putting the stickers on me for an EKG they like wouldn’t stick, so he had to keep getting new ones and like press down really firmly, so that was fun.
The doc said I still have dysautonomia, and in my head I was like “I am aware”. My symptoms have gotten bad enough that he’s finally putting me on medication. Yay!!!!!!
I had to get an echocardiogram to make sure my heart was still not the problem, and it was a women that time, which made me quite happy. Like I can handle an EKG by a dude, but not an echocardiogram. Everything was fine there.
The doc gave me a prescription for beta blockers, but told me to talk to my endocrinologist first to make sure it wouldn’t mess with my t1d, so I’m still waiting for them to call back. I’m just hoping they will help
#postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome#pots#spoonie#potsie#t1d#type 1 diabetes#t1dproblems#b/c i could take the medicine right now if i didnt have t1d#cardiologist#dysautonomia#doctor visit
