I always forget this when I’m writing but…

drafts are supposed to be ugly. they shouldn’t look like a proper story until you’ve finalized everything. whether that be sketched out comic strips or a jumble of sentences that just get to the point of what you want to happen in the story.

Don’t be discouraged. keep going for as long as you can take it. no one else can tell your stories like you.

I've been slowly tweaking these designs for a couple of weeks now, and now I can finally introduce the Uncles, the colorful group of friends/roommates who raised Hed and Les (word "raised" used loosely, but they definitely shared the living space with them).

From left to right: Kymani, Bramble, Adewale, Benji, Jenga, and Licorice "Ish" with his boys. Let's say Hed and Les are 15 and 19 here, maybe a year older, which means the rest are only in their mid 30s.

The curse of the technical writer is looking at every advice post and immediately seeing all the ways attempting to follow it could go disastrously wrong because some seemingly obvious context or corollary has been omitted. Even the ones that don't seem to have any particular failure modes; for example, if you say "you should freeze your potatoes before frying them because it makes them crispier", but you don't explicitly qualify that you should cut them to the intended shape before freezing them? I guarantee you somebody is going to attempt to follow that advice and learn the hard way why you don't do it the other way 'round!

Not a drawing request but when it comes to drawings you do for fun, what's your typical process/what brushes do you tend to use?

Asking bc your art is fucking gorgeous and I want to dissect it, just poke at all the bits and pieces to see how it works.

oooooo!! this is very fun and flattering to hear!! I will gladly provide the learning cadaver that is this post :3c and for context, I use Procreate, so some brush settings may be specific to the app, but the layer types and whatnot are fairly universal

also I realised that I can’t add files here, so if anyone wants the file for my main brush, I’d be willing to send it!!

It's easy to see something new and think that you'll be no good at it, that you'll suck at it. That's okay. The people who matter the most won't care if you suck at it. They just appreciate the fact that you even tried to begin with. They love and cherish you, whether you suck at it or it comes perfectly.
