• Mason loved his horse, I do NOT care what anyone says, but he loved Tex more. He wanted Tex to be happy so he didn’t ask for his horse back so that they could have more money to use to buy Tex his horse back

• I’m not sure if this is canon but Mason absolutely skipped meals to save money.

• He wanted to go to the fair. You CANNOT convince me he DIDNT want to go. He just knew they wouldn’t have enough money for the two of them and he figured Tex should be able to go anyways, with or without him.

This is a conversation I’ve had with my brother when money was tight. “I just don’t want to go, drop it.”

• That ulcer was from stress for sure. Like no way it was anything else.

• He’s absolutely tried, on multiple occasions, to show Tex how bad their dad is because Tex keeps talking abt him like he hung the stars and Mason can’t STAND IT. He wants their dad to care more, but he doesn’t ever let himself believe that he will. Tex might have the luxury of not worrying about money and get to think their dad will be back soon but Mason doesn’t. He needs to plan in case their dad doesn’t EVER come back, which I’m pretty sure is a genuine fear that’s mentioned but I didn’t screenshot it and I can’t get into Internet archive rn to check 💔

soda who enlists in the war but it's not because of steve, or because of the money — deep down he knows that ol' uncle sam is lying, that they're only going to earn a fraction of what they were promised. but he doesn't enlist for that.

he enlists for darry. darry, who's already given up so much to keep their family together. darry, who knows how to keep the house running and how to keep pony in line. soda knows their luck. he knows one of them is bound to get drafted — better him than darry.

he doesn't tell darry or pony when he leaves. he packs his bags in the afternoon when they're both out of the house, he cooks them a nice food-colored dinner that they all enjoy over jokes and jabs. darry teases him about forgetting to salt the potatoes. pony snorts milk through his nose.

it's a perfect night. which makes it even worse.

he writes a little note and leaves it in the kitchen, explaining where he was going and how they could write to him. tells them that he loves them, but doesn't quite explain his motives. he tells them to take care of each other, that they both need the other more than they know.

he walks out in the middle of the night, pressing a quick kiss to pony's forehead and then to darry's cheek. then he's gone.

he meets steve at the bus stop and almost immediately regrets his decision. he's a stayer, not a goer like his brothers. but it'll be worth it, he figures. better him than darry.

so I've been won over by the Tex, Mark, n Dallas are all brothers headcanons. n I'm not gonna write a whole thing for it cause I already got some sick ass mutuals who's thoughts are WAY more coherent (cough cough if u haven't checked out @your-unfriendlyghost au do urself a favor n RUN over there) but there's just somethin so sickenin to me about that. violence that is so ingrained in a family it will find you anywhere. Dallas who kills himself. Mark who's shot down. N Tex. who will walk both their footsteps (betrayed by a brother. caught up in senseless violence. stumblin, shot, callin for help) but Tex makes it. Tex will hold that gun n decide not to shoot. cause he has what the other two never did. he has mason. n that makes all the difference.

I kinda have mixed feelings.. I do kinda like Johnnyboy but at the same time I'm not real crazy about it. I think it's interesting and a bit cute but I can't really see them as a couple. Maybe Johnny could be Pony's gay awakening or something but I can't see them really being more than friends ykwim? I think it's a cool way to look at and interpret the story and is a really interesting way to look at it but it's just not my thing.

Ah so the place I’m staying borders a few vineyards and the owners’ dogs and cats just keep wandering into the yard to hunt and I’m fighting the urge to pet them (call me Bryon’s mom fr)

the noncanon s9 trailer as a whole is very serious, but the idea that wash and maine would have gotten their asses beat by sim troopers on multiple occasions had the outposts not been first established until after the break in is unbelievably funny. these big bad freelancers are more interested in fucking around and goofing off during what is supposed to be a Very SeriousTM simulation exercise and it comes back to bite them so hard, and yall already know that the other freelancers would make sure they never lived it down.

I think Mark is a loud crier, but not naturally. I think that, when his parents were still alive, he had to be loud just so he could get comfort from them. Later, it became deeply-rooted in his psyche, so he just. became that way.

Rusty-James didn’t learn how to speak properly for…the longest time, so he had to be mute for years. Also, he learned Spanish first, & his peers didn’t know Spanish, so he couldn’t. talk to them. (Steve had to teach him English because of the issues, & Rusty’s way better at it than Spanish, but…every time he gets stressed out, he goes non-verbal for hours.)

Random hc thing:

Cal's genderfluid and shape shifts depending on what they currently present as. General hc that the states can just do that and since it's normal for them, they don't care nor notice.

Also, their accent changes, and on some days, they sound like a full-on valley girl.

It's cannon to me!

Cali would be the most open about their gender and not only has genderfluid flags but anything that vaguely resembles the colours of the genderfluid flag.

I also picture them as owning multiple of the same clothes but having NY tailor them for different body types so Cali can avoid weird textures.
