So a little help with trimming text blocks. I inserted thin pieces of scarp chipboard throughout the text. And when I trimmed the edges it didn’t come out messed up. It’s not completely straight but it’s the best as is gonna get with me . Thought I would share here for anyone that fights with their Guillotine on the daily.

Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.

DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

second way more important edit: How are people seeing this post where I specifically talk about burn survivors being normal, real people, and still tag this as "TW body horror"? Not a single one of these drawings or pictures is a fresh injury. All of them are healed. How the hell would you feel if someone tagged a photo of you as "trigger warning: gore"?

Disabled people are not your fucking body horror. Grow up.

I knew that post was gonna be hitting the metaphorical hornet’s nest with a bat (I’m on the website that coined “MUDs” I should step more carefully).

To the person in my inbox that sent a lengthy “um-ackshually” that’s only missing the condescending and rude “…btw” from the person I was debating with’s tags, I’m not gonna give you the sweet sweet validation of posting what was equivalent to a sucker punch in my inbox to read at 8:00AM. It was absolute word salad and I’m not going to subject everyone else to that.

I did not “fakeclaim” that other user. I did reread my post though, and I will concede that the broad “you” at the end targeted toward people who glamorize and woobify severe illnesses could be read wrong. I didn’t say that in the direction of the person I reblogged from, again, it was a broad way of saying “if you do this, screw you.”

As a whole I was barely talking to that person at all, and that’s why my post looks like that. I saw their “not to be an asshole” and “precisely” and instead of glorifying that with a response used it as a jumping-off point to post real medical sources. Again, it was abysmal to me how many tumblr posts and unhinged quora questions I had to scroll by to get those sources, so I ran with it and got some more in case anyone wanted to do the reading.

Anyway, any post I make on the topic is run by my friend first, in case they want to add/remove anything I say that’s incorrect. They’ve run out of energy to fight the kind of people that think DID is NOT an incredibly publicized, dramatized, and sensationalized disorder that people DO fake.

I haven’t lost that bit of bitterness yet.

I could use a few people as examples, as well, like a notably popular person on the short-form content spyware app who was actually putting on a whole show was outed by their family as never having tourettes. I’m not gonna drop names as I’m a little too hush-hush for that but a google would probably bring it up (if the AI answer didn’t tell you to put glue on pizza first).
