being a zutara in the modern day and age is suffering, not because of the lack of canonicity because that's been a thing for over a decade at this point, but because at least half the other shippers are clowns and you can't even defend yourself when someone calls the ship lame

“No. Leave me alone bracken.” you try to shove him away from you but the bracken boy just grins at you and leans closer into you.
“Oh come on cerwyn, i see how you look at me~” a scoff escapes your lips as you stare at him with disgust. “In your fucking dreams, seriously. Leave me alone.”
You didn’t even know this guys name but he had been bothering you for the last couple days. It had started out small with him trying to invite you to come drink with him and his friends to him offering to carry around your stuff for you when you were walking around.
“theyre arrows bracken.”
“so what? must be heavy for you youre a girl.”
He grossed you out. But didn’t matter even if he didn’t,
“she said no.”
The two of you turn to look at the new voice and a smile creeps up on your face. The bracken boy rolls his eyes as he glares, “the hell do you want blackwood.”
“she said no. Back off.”
youve been friends with the lord of house blackwood for since you were younger and hes always been so kind to you. It seemed to be obvious to everyone other than him that you were madly in love with the young lord but if he did notice he said nothing about it.
You knew of his, angry? or maybe a better word is his more aggressive behavior. You had never even seen it first hand but multiple people have told you first hand accounts of him losing his temper and blowing up, his normal calm and kind demeanor getting lost to rage and blind madness.
You did not know what to think about the rumors then but seeing the way his eyes twitched and his clenched jaw as he stared at the bracken boy the rumors about him became more and more believable.
The bracken boy stands and gets all up in bens face, “What are you gonna do about it huh?”
Ben tilts his head and a look you’ve never seen crosses his eyes as he glares. “Get the fuck out of my sight.” His voice is hard like youve never heard before and it has you holding your breath, waiting for the straining thread to snap.
And the thread snaps the second bracken pushes bens chest and laughs. “what? you upset this ugly bitch wants me more than you-“ It happens before you know it and suddenly the two guys are on the floor and everyone in the room jumps up to look.
you freeze. What in the hells are you supposed to do? so you merely watch as the two boys beat the fuck out of each other. Ben pulls ahead at some point and manages to get a few more punches in after pinning the guy down until the two are pulled apart.
“never talk about her like that, no. never talk to her again or else ill fucking kill you.” He thrashes around in the arms of the two blackwood lads that hold him back as he continues to spit insults at the bracken boy as he gets dragged off and out of the space.
Your legs move before you can even think and your standing in front of him, he freezes and blinks at you rapidly. Hes covered in blood, you cant tell which is his and which is the other guys but he looks badly hurt.
He had done it for you. In your name. And you could barely take how hot you felt but he needed you. “i have supplies in my tent let me fix you up.” the boys oooo’d and ben barely acknowledges them as he nods and allows you to drag him off to your tent.
The boys call after you two with some unsavory choice words but you just turn and flip them off before you continue to help ben to your tent. You place him on your bed cot and try to ignore the racing of your heart as he stays quiet, merely looking at you.
Hes usually quiet but not around you. Its odd to see him like this. So you shakily rummage around with the stuff in your chest as you nervously begin to talk. “thank you for stepping in i was really nervous he wasn’t going to leave me alone, you didn’t meed to-“ you gasp as your spun around and lips lock onto yours with fever.
One of his hands reach behind you and push all your stuff off your table, lifting up you up to sit on it while he kisses you. You gasp against his lips and he takes the opportunity to stick his tongue in your mouth.
Your head is spinning. You can taste the metallic taste of his blood seep into your mouth and it laces its way into your kiss. You fear you’re dreaming. You felt asleep on watch shift again and when you wake this will all just be a dream.
Yet when you grip your hand against his waist he pulls away and winces. You are pulled back to reality and try to pull away to grab your medical supplies that now are all spilled all over the floor but he quickly stops you.
“ben you’re hurt.” “i dont care.” He tries to kiss you again but you dodge it and grip his face in your hands. “ben,” His hand slide around your waist and play with the fabric of your tunic, testing the waters and sliding his hands lower and almost under the tunic you wear. “ben.” you say firmer and he pauses to look at you.
“right now i just need to feel your skin, please.” your heart pounds loudly against your chest and your mouth drops open. “ben,” his name shakily passes your lips and he presses his forehead against yours, his eyes closed. “How dare he talk to you like that. i should have killed him,” his hands slide under your tunic his hot hands run up and down your bare sides slowly. “he should know i take no disrespect to the future lady of blackwood.”
You kiss him unable to take it anymore and he meets your fever eagerly. arms wrapping around you and pulling you so your chest to chest and you can feel him pressing against your trousers.
His lips trail down your jaw as his hands find your breasts and you let out a moan as he squeezes them in his hands. His lips your neck and he sucks at any skin he can get while he grinds his hips against yours. His hands grow more feverish as he uses his teeth to pull down your tunic to expose more of your collarbone and neck, youre sure to be covered in bruises tomorrow but you cant be bothered with that.
One of his hands trails down your stomach and almost gets to reach under your pants until a horn sounds outside and you both look at each other alarmed.
“ugh fuck me.” “wish i could.” you slap him on the chest as he pulls away and he hisses.
“that hurts.” “if you had let me patch you up it wouldn’t be hurting you idiot.” “you certain didn’t look like you were going to complain. not when i was about to-“ “okay! lets go they need us.” you ignore the sound of his laughter as you flap open your tent and rush out leaving him behind, hoping you look presentable enough your men dont ask questions and pray you can continue what you were doing with ben later.

cheater!kaiser who just decides he'll buy you a new shirt later continues to cover your delicate skin with harsh markings. you pulled him by the rattails, "you must looooo-ove doing this with the other girls you're sleeping 'round with huh?" you snarled.
cheater!kaiser who shuts your pain-inflicting words n noises with a higher pitch loving tone. his big big fingers were teasing along your folds now.
cheater!kaiser who genuinely cannot get enough of you as you're whining, crying, whimpering, all the above on his fdick or fingers. thrust after thrust, your sweet noises filling the room. were they filled with anger? yea, probably. did he care? na. for your and his pleasure.
cheater!kaiser who can't remember why he cheated in the first place as it hit him like an arrow in the heart, you were just perfect. loving, a bitch as well LOL, puts him in his place... perfection. you were the absolute ideal of a partner in his head.
cheater!kaiser who whispers gently, "give me a second chance, liebe. i'll change" into your ear in which you let out a hefty "more than second now. you havent changed at all" guess he's still oughta fuck the anger out of you.

Jason's an angry crier, okay? Maybe he's an emotional crier too, and that is decisely one of the reasons he wears a helmet. It's not that he is incapable of doing things while crying, but he is crying nevertheless and no way in hell is he going to let anyone to see that ever. So, he's just quietly sniffling under his helmet for one reason or another while doing his job because it be like that. And, well. It's not like he is hanging out with anyone outside of the job for long enough for them to see him having big emotions without it, so it's fine. He doesn't have to train himself to keep it in, it's actually really cathartic. He just lets the tears come, his brain balances itself out, no one notices, a win for him.
...then he starts to actually spend time with Roy and the rest of the Arrows. And even if their relationship with each other is getting better, they still have some preconceptions of him, including that he is cool and calculative even when he gets angry. And then one day something seemingly very miniscule happens (Oliver patted him on the back and called him a "good son") and they all just hear this sniffle and turn around and Jason is just standing there with huge Ghibli tears running down his face, and everyone is alarmed because what.
Jason gets tissues and hugs and a cup of tea immediately and everyone is fussing and Jason doesn't know if it's nice or if he should be extremely embarrassed.

TW: cussing, angry early seasons Daryl, angst, nationwide destruction, descriptions of walkers (Zombies) , firearms, Shane is creepy (and maybe slightly ooc ?), mentions of past abuse.
Part 5
Dead Weight - Part 6
The forest floor was a mosaic of decay and rebirth, leaves crunching beneath Daryl's boots as he tracked what might be nothing more than a fading hope.
Three weeks Sophia had been missing. Three weeks in these woods teeming with walkers. Logic said the girl was dead, but Daryl Dixon had never much cared for logic.
The ravine appeared suddenly, a steep drop hidden by overgrown brush. Daryl paused at its edge, squinting down into the murky water below. Something caught his eye—a flash of fabric against the muddy bank.
The search for Carol's daughter had become his personal mission. Rick had the group, Shane had his guns, and Daryl—Daryl had this.
He made his careful way down, crossbow held ready. Years of hunting had taught him to move silent as a ghost through these woods, each step calculated.
The object became clearer as he approached—a doll, half-buried in mud. Sophia's doll.
"Well, I'll be damned," he muttered, crouching to retrieve it.
She'd been here.
Maybe passed through recently.
He tucked the filthy doll into his belt and scanned the area for more signs, finding partial footprints heading east.
The climb back up was treacherous, loose soil giving way under his boots. Halfway up, a root he'd grabbed for support snapped, sending him tumbling backward.
The world spun in violent flashes—sky, earth, trees—until a white-hot pain exploded through his side.
Daryl gasped, the impact stealing his breath. He lay stunned at the bottom of the ravine, the crossbow beside him, one of his own arrows protruding from his side.
Blood bloomed around the shaft, soaking his shirt.
"Son of a bitch," he wheezed.
Tumblr media
For several minutes, Daryl lay still, fighting to remain conscious as waves of agony radiated from his side. Blood soaked his shirt, warm and sticky against his skin. With trembling fingers, he explored the wound, cursing again when he felt the shaft of the bolt protruding from his flesh.
Darkness edged his vision. He fought against it, forcing himself to tear strips from his shirtsleeve to secure the wound.
His fingers felt clumsy, too large for the task.
"Look at you," a familiar voice drawled. "Bleedin' out in the dirt like some wounded animal."
Daryl's head snapped up, vision swimming. There, perched on a fallen log, was Merle—looking exactly as he had the last time Daryl had seen him, before they'd left him handcuffed to an Atlanta rooftop.
"Yer not real," Daryl grunted, turning back to his wound.
"Real enough to see what a sorry sight my baby brother's become," Merle laughed, the sound harsh in the quiet forest.
"Out here playin' hero for a bunch of people who don't give two shits about you."
"You forgot about good ol' Merle,"
"They left me there to die, and you just fell right in line with 'em." Merle snarled, his face twisting with contempt.
"Tried real hard to find you bro" Daryl muttered vision blurring.
"Tracked you through half of Atlanta."
"They ain't never gonna see you as one of them," Merle continued, leaning forward. "Rick, Shane, all them others—they're just usin' you. First chance they get, they'll leave you behind, scrape you off there heels like you was dog shit."
Daryl tried to stand, legs wobbly beneath him. The ravine wall loomed impossibly high now.
"Look at you," Merle sneered. "Can't even get yerself up a little hill. What happened to you, Darylina? You used to be tough."
"Shut the hell up," Daryl growled.
"What you doin' out here anyway?" Merle circled around him, boots leaving no imprint on the forest floor. "Searchin' for some little lost girl? Got a thung for little girls now ?"
Daryl ignored him, focusing instead on reaching the doll. He crawled the few feet to where it lay, snatching it up with a triumphant grunt. "Found somethin'," he muttered to himself.
"Oh, a dolly!" Merle's voice dripped with mockery. "That'll make everythin' better. Maybe that mousy little mother will give you a gold star. Or maybe you hopin' for somethin' else? A little kiss on the cheek?"
"Ain't like that," Daryl growled, tucking the doll into his belt.
"Sure it ain't." Merle squatted down beside him, face inches from Daryl's.
"You always was soft. Daddy saw it. I saw it. Now you runnin' around playin' hero for folks who wouldn't piss on you if you was on fire."
"Shut up," Daryl muttered, gritting his teeth as he managed to get to his knees. Fresh blood pulsed from the wound with the movement.
Tumblr media
The arrow snapped with a crack that sent fresh pain spiraling through Daryl's body. He doubled over, forehead pressed to the cool earth as he fought to remain conscious.
"Know what I think?" Merle continued, unaffected by Daryl's suffering.
"I think you gettin' sweet on that foreign girl."
Daryl's head shot up, eyes narrowed. "Don't."
"Hit a nerve, did I?" Merle's grin widened.
"Baby brother gone and got himself a crush. How cute. She know you piss yourself when it thunders? know about them scars on y'back? About how you cried like a little bitch when Daddy took his belt to you?"
"Shut up," Daryl snarled, louder this time.
"She's outta your league, Darylina. Woman like that wouldn't look twice at trash like you. Not unless she desperate. And even with the world gone to shit, she ain't that desperate."
Daryl grabbed a nearby stick, using it to lever himself up to standing. Pain tore through him, but rage provided its own kind of anesthetic. "Don't know nothin' about her."
"I know she's educated. Got that fancy accent. Probably never had to hunt her own dinner or sleep in a car 'cause Daddy was on a bender and locked her out." Merle circled him again, predatory.
"What you think's gonna happen? She gonna fall for your charm? Your sparklin' conversation?"
Daryl began the arduous task of climbing back up the ravine, each movement sending fresh agony through his wounded side. He refused to look at Merle, refused to engage.
But Merle wasn't done. "I seen how you watch her. All puppy-dog eyes when you think nobody's lookin'. It's embarrassin'. A Dixon man pinin' after some woman who thinks she's better than him."
"Ain't like that," Daryl grunted, fingers digging into the earth as he pulled himself up another foot.
"Oh no? Then why ain't you made a move? 'Cause you know, deep down, that she'd laugh in your face." Merle appeared above him on the slope, looking down with contempt. "Or worse, she'd look at you with pity. Poor damaged Darylina."
The climb was excruciating. Twice Daryl nearly lost his grip, sending small avalanches of dirt and stones cascading down the ravine.
Sweat poured down his face, mixing with the grime and blood. But he kept going, one painful inch at a time.
"Y'know what's real pathetic?" Merle continued, always just a few feet ahead. "You lettin' yourself get sweet on a girl who's got her eye on that cop. Big fella, looks like he could snap you in half."
"She hates Shane," Daryl spat before he could stop himself.
Merle's laughter echoed through the trees. "Oh ho! Listen to you, defendin' her honor! She tell you that, did she? Sharin' her secrets with dirty ol' Daryl? Or maybe you just seein' what you wanna see."
Daryl reached the top of the ravine at last, collapsing onto his back, chest heaving as he stared up at the patches of sky visible through the canopy. The bolt in his side sent fresh waves of agony with each breath.
Merle's face appeared above him, blocking the light. "You know what's gonna happen, don't you? Even if you find that little girl. Even if they throw you a damn parade. She still ain't gonna want nothin' to do with you. 'Cause girls like that don't end up with folks like us."
"She ain't like that," Daryl repeated, but the conviction in his voice had wavered.
"She's probably back at that farm right now, battin' her eyes at Officer Friendly or his partner. Hell, maybe even that damned Asian kid."
"His name's Glen," Daryl muttered.
"Oh, excuse me! Glen." Merle's voice was acid.
Daryl forced himself to sit up, ignoring the dizziness that threatened to overwhelm him. "You're wrong. 'bout 'em."
"Am I?" Merle crouched down, eyes boring into Daryl's. "Then why you out here alone, little brother? Where's your new family when you bleedin' out in the dirt?"
The question hit harder than Daryl wanted to admit. He looked away, focusing instead on tearing a strip from his shirt to secure around his middle, staunching the worst of the bleeding.
"Face it," Merle continued, relentless. "She looks at you and all she sees is some dumb redneck who's good for huntin' and not much else. You think she'd be interested if she knew the truth? If she saw how weak you really are?"
"Don't matter what she thinks," Daryl mumbled, but the words felt hollow.
"Sure don't. 'Cause you too scared." Merle's voice softened to a dangerous purr. "You ain't never gonna have her, little brother. Best you accept that now."
Daryl turned his head, but Merle was gone—if he'd ever been there at all. In his place was only empty forest, the wind rustling through leaves. He touched the doll still tucked in his belt, a reminder of why he'd come out here.
But Daryl pushed on, trying to outpace not just the physical pain, but the deeper wound Merle's words had inflicted.
Because the worst part—the part that made his chest ache worse than the arrow in his side—was that broken piece of him that said his brother might be right.
About who he was.
About what he deserved.
Tumblr media
The sun hangs high above Hershel’s farmhouse, warm but not yet oppressive. The fields are quiet, a breeze tugging at the grass in lazy waves. A few birds sing—rare music these days.
Most of the group is out tracking through the woods. Rick. Shane. Daryl.
You stayed behind.
Carl sits cross-legged in the dirt, a few pebbles and sticks scattered in front of him.
You kneel across from him, your hands dusted with dry earth, your sleeves rolled up.
“This one can be the fort,” you say, tapping a flat rock with a smile. “And this one’s the lookout tower.”
Carl’s face lights up—not with wild joy, but with something close.
You see the boy he was before.
It’s in the way he leans forward, as he moves one of the sticks like it’s a soldier.
“And that’s where the walkers come in,” he grins, dragging a pebble along a line in the dirt like it’s sneaking up on a camp.
You gasp, playing along. “Oh no, not again! Not the lookout tower!”
The two of you burst into quiet laughter—soft and low, like you’re both pretending the world outside your little circle doesn't exist.
Behind you, from the porch, Carol folds laundry, watching with something like longing in her eyes. Dale sits beside her in a sagging lawn chair, hat low over his brow.
“That girl,” Dale murmurs, “she’s a soft touch. Would spoil that kid if he asked.”
Carol lays another shirt in the basket. Her lips purse.
“She’s good with him,” she murmurs softly to Dale, not taking her eyes off you.
“She’s good with all of us.”
There’s a pause. Then Dale hums.
“Even Daryl?” Dale asks, half-serious.
Carol folds another towel, her voice a whisper. “Especially Daryl ... He just doesn’t know it yet.”
Tumblr media
The Greene family farm had become a temporary haven, though you knew better than to mistake it for safety. Nothing was safe anymore. Especially not today.
Andrea was on watch duty atop Dale's RV, rifle in hand. Voices raised in panic. Someone shouting about a walker approaching from the woods.
"I got it!" Andrea called, taking aim despite Dale's protests below her.
The shot rang out, clean and sharp in the afternoon air.
Then Rick's panicked voice "No! NO!"
Your blood turned to ice as they carried him in. Daryl - unconscious, blood-soaked, with a makeshift bandage hastily wrapped around his head.
A string of walker ears that he'd been wearing as a grotesque necklace now hung limp and gory from his belt. His crossbow was being carried by Glen, one of the bolts stained crimson.
"What happened?" you asked quietly.
Rick's face was grim. "He fell on his own arrow searching for Sophia. Then Andrea shot him."
"Is he-"
"Just grazed his temple," Hershel said, already examining the wound. "But the arrow wound in his side is concerning."
The next few hours passed in a blur. You lingered outside the bedroom door where Hershel worked, ignoring Shane's attempts to draw you away.
"Nothin' you can do for him right now," Shane said, his hand settling uncomfortably on your shoulder.
"Why don't you come help me check the perimeter?"
You shrugged off his touch. "I-I'm alright here"
Tumblr media
Later, when Daryl was finally stable and resting, you slipped into his room. He was propped up against the pillows, shirtless except for the bandages wrapped around his torso. The bloody string of walker ears had been removed.
You settled into the chair beside him, pulling out the torn shirt you'd been meaning to repair. The repetitive motion of needle and thread had always calmed you, even before the world ended.
"Ain't ya got better things to do than watch me sleep?" His voice was rough with pain, those blue eyes narrowed at you.
"Probably," you replied, not looking up from your stitching. "But Glen and Maggie are making eyes at each other, Shane's being Shane, and Lori's giving me a headache."
A grunt was his only response, but you noticed the slight relaxation in his shoulders.
Tumblr media
Daryl lay still on the bed, eyes closed but not sleeping. You could tell by the rhythm of his breathing, the occasional twitch of his fingers against the sheets.
He'd been lucky—twice.
The arrow had missed any vital organs when he'd fallen on it during his search for Sophia, and Andrea's bullet had only grazed his temple.
"Ya don't gotta do that," Daryl mumbled without opening his eyes, referring to your mending.
"I know," you replied simply, continuing your stitching. "But shirts are in short supply."
He grunted in response, shifting slightly and then wincing. The movement revealed the edge of older scars across his back— long-healed remnants of pain that had nothing to do with the apocalypse.
A soft knock at the door interrupted the silence. Carol peeked in, carrying a tray with a sandwich and a glass of water.
"I brought you something to eat," she said softly, her eyes full of maternal concern as she approached the bed.
Daryl's body tensed almost imperceptibly. "Ain't hungry."
"You need to keep your strength up," Carol insisted, setting the tray on the bedside table. "It was brave what you did out there, looking for Sophia."
"S'what anyone woulda done," he muttered, uncomfortable with the praise.
You continued sewing, your eyes focused on your work but your attention keenly tuned to the interaction unfolding beside you.
Carol's devotion to Daryl had grown steadily since he'd taken up the search for her daughter with such dedication.
Before Daryl could protest, she leaned down swiftly and moved to place a gentle kiss on his cheek.
His reaction was so subtle most would have missed it—a sharp intake of breath, a minute flinch away from the contact, a reflexive curling of his shoulders.
But you caught it.
A small flinch, a learned response.
Carol either didn't notice or chose to ignore it, although you suspected she noticed more then she let on.
"Get some rest," she said before quietly leaving the room.
The silence that followed felt heavier than before. You continued your methodical stitching for several more minutes, giving Daryl time to settle again.
His breathing had quickened during Carol's visit but was gradually returning to its normal rhythm.
When you finally spoke, your voice was casual.
"Parent or partner?"
Daryl's eyes snapped open. "The hell you talkin' about?"
Your hands still worked the needle through fabric, you didn't dare look up.
"That flinch."
A beat.
"Parent or partner?"
Tumblr media
His face darkened instantly, shutters coming down behind his eyes. "Ain't none of yer damn business," he growled, pushing himself up on his elbows despite the pain it clearly caused him.
"Ya think you know somethin' about me 'cause we both survived the end of the world? We ain't friends. We ain't nothin'." His Southern drawl thickened with his anger.
"Just 'cause you lost yer country don't mean you get to go diggin' around in my past."
You didn't rise to the bait.
"Old boyfriend. Had a thing for backhanding me when he'd had too many beers."
Daryl snorted, but there was no humor in it. "Shoulda picked better then."
The barb stung, but you kept your face impassive. "Probably. But you don't always see the monsters until you're trapped with them."
"Ain't trapped now, are ya?" he sneered, plucking at his fingernail with agitation.
"Got plenty of options round here lookin' to warm yer bed. Shane's been eyein' ya like a damn steak. Why don't ya go see what he's got to offer?"
Daryl's mouth twisted into an ugly sneer. "In fact maybe ya should go tell yer sad stories to Officer Friendly. Shane seems real interested in whatever you're sellin'."
The barb was meant to wound, and it did. You knew he'd seen Shane's persistent attempts to get close to you—the unwanted touches, the suggestive comments that made your skin crawl.
"That's low," you said quietly.
Something flickered in his eyes—regret, maybe—but it was quickly buried beneath the familiar wall of hostility.
"Why don't ya just go?" He mumbled
You paused at the door, looking back at him. The evening light cast half his face in shadow, highlighting the fresh wound at his temple. Scowl in place, every part of him designed to keep people at a distance.
Daryl stared at the closed door long after you'd gone, the silence in the room now oppressive. He absently rubbed at the bandage on his head, fingers tracing down to the still-tender wound in his side where his own arrow had pierced him.
""Damn idiot," he muttered to the empty room.
He hadn't meant to lash out like that. Hadn't meant to bring up Shane, knowing how the man's aggressive advances made you uncomfortable. But the moment you'd asked that question—"Parent or partner?"—his walls had slammed up hard and fast.
No one was supposed to see through him like that.
Tumblr media
The air is still, quiet in the way only rural places can be just before dark. Crickets have started to chirp, and the barn creaks faintly in the distance.
You step out of the farmhouse, arms folded tightly around your middle, your expression quiet but a little tired.
Your tent’s just a few paces away, your little sanctuary after another long day. But as you reach the steps, Shane calls out behind you.
“Hey, wait up.”
You stop, instinctively polite, offering him a small smile.
“Hey, I was just gonna—”
“I know,” he interrupts, swaggering forward. “Just thought maybe you didn’t wanna turn in alone tonight.”
You chuckle not from flirtation but from nerves.
“I’m okay, really. Thanks though.”
But Shane doesn’t stop.
He’s too close now. Close enough that you can smell the beer on his breath, the sweat from the heat of the day.
“C’mon, girl. Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on here. You’re sweet, yeah, but your not dumb.”
He reaches for you—playfully at first—but it lingers. His fingers wrap tighter than necessary.
Your smile fades. “Shane, stop. I said I’m okay.”
He chuckles, low and cocky. “Just messin’. You’re too soft for your own good.”
He brushes his hand against your hip, too casual to be innocent. You flinch, try to step back, but he follows.
“Don’t,” you say again, firmer this time, your voice shaking slightly.
He laughs, head dipping and hands grasping.
A hard, clean sound that echoes in the quiet air like a firecracker.
You slapped him before you even realized you'd moved.
Shane freezes. His hand twitches at his side. And you look up at him—eyes wide, breath trembling.
You don’t realize that Daryl’s window is directly behind you, wide open to the porch.
Daryl had been, bristling with restlessness aince you'd left. His arm’s draped across his ribs, and his temple’s throbbing, but he’s alert. Watching. Always watching.
He’d heard the screen door creak.
Then voices.
Then your voice.
Too polite. Too damn gentle.
Then your tone changed. Firmer. More afraid.
When he heard the slap, he moved. He was at the window. One hand pressed to the sill, eyes narrowed to slits.
He saw you standing your ground, trembling but defiant.
And Shane—cocky, looming Shane—just standing there, jaw tight.
Daryl’s jaw flexes, nostrils flaring.
“Son of a bitch,” he mutters, half to himself, but the edge in his voice is pure venom.
He doesn’t even register the pain in his side as he grabs his shirt and heads for the door.
Shane sneers. "Uptight little bitc—" moving towards you with purpose.
You’re still blinking, when you hear the screen door slam open behind you.
Boots hit the steps with force.
“What the hell you think you’re doin’?” Daryl’s voice is a low snarl.
Shane stops mid-stride and turns, raising his hands. “Relax, Dixon. It was a joke.”
“Don't look funny.”
Daryl’s moving now, slow and deliberate, that wounded swagger still dangerous. He gets between you and Shane with one hard stare and a stiff shoulder.
Daryl doesn’t turn to look at you.
Not yet.
He stares Shane down until the other man shrugs and walks off, muttering to himself.
“Thank you,” you say quietly.
Silence stretches between you.
But then—so quiet it’s barely audible—
“Saw 'im put hands on you.”

The Samurai Code Pt 9
Drift x Reader
• Arching as memories and thoughts not your own swamp you, sink into you, there’s a question hanging there in the chaos between you two. And he’s light and warmth, reassuring as he reaches for you. Realizing what he’s done, despite you telling him not to, you’re arrowing away from him. Driving deeper into the connection as you’re bombarded with shards of him. Memories of a long life, the things he’s done. The mistakes, the cruelty hurting you so deeply as his sorrow and regret sinks into you. His self loathing.
• Is a partial bond enough? Doesn’t know, but you won’t submit to him, won’t come to him. You’re bright as a star streaking through him, seeing everything and you’ll despise him after. Knows it and deserves nothing else. And Ratchet’s servos are on his arm, pulling at him. Forcing him to break the connection when he wants to see more of your memories. Live your life through your eyes, because you’re nothing like him. You’re good. Innocent and he’s tainting you with his past.
• Swearing softly, Ratchet growls as he finally pulls Drift’s hand away, separating you from the bot’s spark. And you’re shaking in his palm, curling into yourself as Drift’s own hands tremble faintly. Wants to ask if it’s a full bond, but knows it’s none of his business. This is between you and Drift. Something intimate and so wrong because Drift had taken something you’d already told him he couldn’t have.
• Pushing upright, hair hanging in your face as your hands curl into fists against his palm, you can’t look at him. So angry at him. “Did it work?” Drift asks, voice so tired and resigned. He knows. Knows you saw who he’d been. The truth of him, the past he’s trying to make up for. And there’s no pain, that realization sinking into you as your breath hitches. The exhaustion and disjointed feeling still there, but diminished.
• “I told you no,” you say, head lifting and when he reaches for you to brush your hair from your face, you smack his servo hard. “Why did you do that? He told you it might kill you,” you snap, voice rising. Angrier than he’s ever seen you. And he’s smiling, because that fury? You’re better. You have to be, because you’re more animated than he’s ever seen you. “Stop smiling, this isn’t funny!” Hears Ratchet muttering as he presses his servos to his helm, disgusted with him.

Home at Last (Daryl Dixon x Fem! Reader)
another request from @caseylicious !! i love your daryl ideas so much!! hope you enjoy!! 🫶🫶
Summary: After being left on the roof with Merle, you're separated from Daryl.
WC: 2.7k
--
“Merle was a danger to himself and everyone else, your husband did the right thing.” Andrea looked over at Lori, she just looked up at Rick and nodded, still looking unsure about the whole situation. “What about (Y/N)? I mean she definitely doesn’t deserve to be left with him.” Dale inquired. Glenn shook his head and held it in his hands, just dreading the conversation they were going to have with Daryl. “It's not our fault she wanted to stay; she wasn’t listening to us. What more could we have done,” Rick said matter of factly. Head nods and sighs were a sign of mutual agreement with Rick. They all knew you, but they also knew Daryl.
It was clear to everyone that you and the Dixons were a package deal. Daryl and you were together for a while before everything had started. Making Merle practically your brother at that point, meaning you weren’t just going to sit around and let a random cop handcuff him. You did agree Merle was out of line but keeping him tied down the roof was not the move. Determined to make them let him go, you stayed with him. Without a second thought too. But that plan failed, as they did actually leave you. Ironically, without a second thought. But they all knew once the news got to Daryl, Hell would certainly break loose within the camp.
The morning sun casted over the camp, everyone doing the daily routine with their chores. Shane had just brought in the water when screams were heard, the children screamed. Everyone ran to action seeing a walker had made its way onto the camp, eating a deer with a bunch of arrows in it. After disabling the walker, rustling was heard in the bushes, all of them breathing in sighs of relief when it was revealed to be Daryl. But the sighs of relief turned into stressful breathing when they realized what they were about to have to explain to him.
Daryl was ranting on about the loss of venison, shooting the brain, and whatever else as he marched his way back into the camp. Everyone was keeping their distance from him, not wanting to get too close in case he exploded. Daryl had started yelling for you and Merle, completely unaware of what he was about to find out.
“Daryl, I need to talk to you about them,” Shane spoke. Daryl looked at Shane with a questionable look, not so sure about what Shane was about to tell him. “Something happened on the run-”
“They dead?” Daryl looked more tense now, ready to take his anger out on whoever got you both killed. The more Shane and Rick spoke, the more angry Daryl grew. FInding out they had stupidly left you both there threw him off the tiny edge he was standing on.
“Lemme process this, ya handcuffed my brother to a roof? And left him and my girl there?” The anger was obvious, he was pacing around Rick. Nothing could be said in that moment to make him feel better.
“If it makes anything better, I chained the door shut so geeks couldn’t get them,” point proven right there. Right as Daryl went to throw a punch, Shane put him in a headlock, pinning him to the ground. “Chokeholds illegal,” he mumbled as he caught his breath still in the group. Rick crouched down to Daryl’s level and told him how it is. That it just had to happen in order for the group to be saved, but he wasn’t buying it.
Just like how they knew how much he meant to you, they knew how much you meant to him. You were the rational part of him, the part of him that kept him level headed, the part of him they all missed right now. But it was their fault you were gone, at least to him. He had started to break down, just enough to where it was noticeable.
Rick had made the plan to go out with Daryl and Glenn to retrieve you and Merle, but also the guns. T-Dog soon made the choice to tag along as well. Though, Daryl knew everyone just wanted the guns and could give less of shit about the people he cared about. A nervous gut feeling hit Daryl, he didn’t want to show it, but he was scared shitless. If neither of you were there, he didn’t know what he would do.
Daryl was getting antsy with Rick and T-Dog taking their sweet ass time getting into the truck. He was pacing again, nervous habit, just needed to see you were okay. Merle could defend himself, he knew that. You could as well, he taught you to, but he couldn’t let go of you no matter what. His leg was bouncing like crazy, the eventual drive feeling like it was taking forever. T-Dog looked at Daryl, just watching him. The tension was high, and he wanted to try and ease the air.
“So, you and (Y/N), how’d that happen,” Daryl shot him a glare. T-Dog looked away, regretting what he had said instantly. Bringing his rag to his face, Daryl wiped it off and proceeded to speak. “None of yer business, just needa know you messed up leavin’ her there,” Daryl's eyes darted down at his hands not even wanting to engage in anymore conversations.
Once finally getting to the department store, Daryl hauled his ass through it. Getting to the roof faster than everybody else. Getting the door open, the bright light threw him off. As soon as his eyes adjusted, he was devastated. It was empty.
Blood was all over the floor, Merle’s hand was on the ground and both of you were nowhere to be seen. The only thing of yours left behind being a necklace, intentionally placed where it would be seen. It was a sign that you were alive, but also a sign you were gone. Like you wanted to leave something of you for him. He lost you, he fucking lost you.
Ever since that day on the rooftop, he swore to himself that he would look for you. No matter what, he looked. Tracking anything he could, any sign of you, just anything. The group had tried to convince him you were gone, to make him stop risking himself out there. Which never worked, he didn’t believe for a second you were dead. When on the road after the farm, he still looked. Going into the woods constantly, claiming to hunt, but in reality just putting up a front so he wouldn’t get chewed out for still looking for you.
Daryl didn’t want to admit it. He really didn’t want to admit it, but he was starting to lose faith in ever finding you again. As the days went on, the tracks were growing cold. The faith he had rapidly dying with it. “She’ll turn up, she’s like you,” looking beside him, Glenn had snuck up on him. He didn’t blame Glenn for the rooftop, Hell, he couldn’t blame anyone for it. Daryl just shook his head and put it down. Glenn spoke up again, just trying to make him feel better.
“She’s stubborn, should’ve seen her that day. Thought she was going to kill Rick herself for Merle.” Glenn giggled to himself, Daryl just huffing. Not an angry huff though, it was something more lighthearted. The idea of you defending Merle was amusing. “Her ass was probably more pissed at Merle than anythin’” Daryl had gotten used to thinking back on memories with you. Merle and you had never gotten along, ironically it's what he liked about you. Never scared to put him in his place. In return, Merle gave Daryl his approval about you, which was really unneeded in Daryl’s opinion.
Unfortunately for him, once the group got to the prison so much was happening that he didn’t have time to look. He felt horrible about it, surely feeling like the biggest piece of shit to walk the earth. Everything that had happened became a blur, trying to keep the prison up, the multiple losses, the birth of Judith, just so much going on he could barely keep track. The thing that brought him back to reality was the ambush on Woodbury, and the reunion with his brother.
But still no you, still nothing. He had to hold back the tears the minute he found out Merle hadn’t seen you in ages. Apparently you had run off when you Merle got with the Governor. When the brothers branched off from the main group, Daryl was silent. Part of him was mad at Merle for letting you go, but the other part was dealing with the fact you were gone. Probably for good.
Walking through the woods, Merle was talking his ass off. Just saying shit and Daryl couldn’t care to listen to any of it. “Lighten’ up brother! The Dixons are back!” He roughly pat Daryl on the back. Daryl was quick to grumble and shrug off Merle's sorry attempt at making a joke. “Now, what's wrong Darlina? Gotten soft?” Daryl stopped and let Merle keep on walking. It took a minute for Merle to realize he stopped, which made him stop too and look back at his brother.
“Why’d ya let her go.” Daryl's words were harsh but quiet. Just enough to wipe the smirk off Merle’s face. Stepping up to Daryl, Merle was trying to intimidate him. But Daryl wasn’t going to budge, he was never going to let himself do that. Not with Merle. “I didn’t let her go, the bitch got scared. Didn’t trust the Governor, chose to fend for herself. Like the dumbass she is,” Merle was quickly cut off with a swift punch in his face. Getting knocked on his ass by Daryl.
He crouched down to Merle’s level and got in his face. “Speak about ‘er like tha’ again, I’ll kill ya next time.” Daryl jerked forward to imitate a punch which caused Merle to flinch. Scoffing, Daryl moved forward through the woods. Just those few interactions made him realize staying with Merle was a mistake, he needed to get back to the family that cared about him and that he cared about.
It had felt like ages since they had seen anything other than the woods, when it was actually a few hours. When Daryl had spotted a small shed, he was grateful. Maybe there was something in there that could be useful. Daryl whistled to get Merle’s attention and make him see what he saw. Inching closer and closer to the shed door, crossbow at the ready but no finger on the trigger. If something was in there he could act quickly, but he didn’t want to be irrational.
Throwing open the door, there was nothing there. Putting down the bow, he breathed a sigh of relief and looked some more. There were signs of life but nothing that alarmed him. Water bottles were scattered around, some still filled. Jackpot. Snatching them up Daryl put them with their other belongings. If the person living there showed up, he’d give them back no problem. But finders keepers for now.
The brothers decided mutually that they were going to camp for the night in that spot, just creating a small campfire outside the shed before turning in. The night dragged on, heavy tension filled air filled the brothers atmosphere. Merle had walked off to look for “food”, leaving Daryl by himself. Just him and his thoughts. He had found himself sitting around the fire just staring at it. The memories came flooding back to him, he just missed you so much. He hates himself for not continuing to look for you. He’ll never forgive himself for giving up, but more could he really do.
As if the universe was giving him a sign, he heard twigs snap in the distance. His head snapped in the direction of the sound, instantly on edge about the whole ordeal. Standing up slowly he equipped his crossbow but before he could raise it up, an arm wrapped around his neck bringing him down. This wasn’t a walker, this was a person. And a pretty strong one at that.
Making quick work of getting out of the chokehold he separated himself and the attacker in question. A bandanna was wrapped around their face to cover it, they were wearing a heavy jacket with a hood up. Daryl could barely make out who this person even was, which made it all the more weird when the attacker said his name. Quietly of course, but he heard it. Trying to figure out what was happening he was lost in his thoughts. He never even saw the attacker charge at him again.
Standing his ground he fought them off as best as he could, just trying to figure out how this person knew who he was. Pushing down harshly, the attacker fell on their back almost knocked out. Daryl took this as his moment to get rid of the disguise the attacker had on, and almost broke when he took the bandanna off.
It was you, it was really you. He could barely believe it himself.
Daryl stepped backwards and fell to his knees. Hurting you was something he never once wanted to do, and he just did that. He was defending himself, sure, and you attacked him. Guilt started to weigh on him, causing him to go crazy a bit. The whole situation didn’t feel real, which was a shared feeling. You weren’t in your right state of mind, he knew that. But Daryl was focused on the tears and the emotions he was feeling that he didn’t notice you get up and pounce on him again, successfully pinning him to the ground.
He was trying to explain himself, trying so hard to make you see reality. It surprised him how strong you had gotten after all this time, fighting so hard against your strength. “You’re not real. If you were, you would’ve found me sooner,” you said holding a knife up to his throat. Having him in such a bad position. Daryl acted quick and knocked the knife out of your hands and flipped you over so that he was now holding you down. His strong arm was across your chest and his legs held down yours.
Tears streamed down his face as you thrashed against him, begging to be let go. Daryl could barely speak, hating to see you like this and him being the reason for it. “I tried, I looked everyday, I never wanted to give up. Please, it’s me.” Daryl’s head fell with his hair covering his face. A few more hits flew from you, definitely going to leave marks, but did not care. He needed you back.
Surprisingly for him, the thrashing stopped. Just to make sure it wasn’t a fake out, he didn’t look up. But once he did look, he saw your face was softened. Moving his arm off your chest, he freed you a bit. Still weary on if you were in a better space or not. Your arm snaked up from your side where it was held down, taking the necklace Daryl had on in your hands.
“It's my necklace. It is you. You looked for me..” Your voice was breaking and soft, like the regret had set in. He had always kept the necklace tucked under his shirt so it wouldn’t get caught on anything and risk losing it, must've slipped out during the fight. Wiping his face, Daryl looked in your eyes, “Course I looked, never wanted to lose ya.” He eased up and stood up off of you, helping you up in the process. The minute you were up and stable, his strong arms were around you, this time in a loving embrace.
Tears were falling like they never had before, the both of you just living in the moment in each other's arms. “They left me,” you silently whispered, voice breaking even more., Daryl just shushed you softly and put his hand in your hair. “I know, but now I got ya. Never leavin’ ya again.”

Cupid's Shuffle* | Part One
Cupid’s arrow was supposed to patch things up with Sam, not point you straight at Castiel—and resisting it might just be harder than falling. *Contains sexual material, slow-burn, brief mentioning of a past relationship with Sam Pairing: Sam Winchester x Reader, Castiel x Reader (Eventually), Dean Winchester x Reader (Platonic) Part Two Taglist: @mostlymarvelgirl @this-is-me--1998 Supernatural Masterlist | Main Masterlist
The drive back to the bunker felt longer than any hunt you’d ever been on.
Rain drummed against the Impala’s windows in a steady, relentless rhythm. The windshield wipers dragged across the glass in slow, tired arcs, smearing streaks of road spray and dead leaves. Dean’s jaw was locked tight, eyes fixed ahead as if staring hard enough at the road might drown out the tension crackling around him like a live wire.
You sat in the front passenger seat, arms crossed over your chest like armor, shoulders tight and unmoving. Behind you, Sam shifted restlessly, his knee bouncing, breath shallow with the effort of keeping quiet. But it didn’t last.
It never did.
“You could’ve died, Y/N,” Sam snapped suddenly, voice low but sharp—like a blade you’d already been cut on too many times. “What the hell were you thinking?”
You turned your head slowly, the glare in your eyes like ice beneath thunderclouds.
“I was thinking the kid was about to be dragged to hell, Sam,” you said flatly. “I didn’t exactly have time to run a tactical briefing by you.”
Sam leaned forward, his hand braced on the back of your seat. “You went in alone. You didn’t wait. You just—God, do you even care what it would’ve done to us if you hadn’t made it out?”
Dean shifted in his seat, a muscle jumping in his jaw. “Let’s not do this here…”
But your voice cut clean through him. “Don’t you dare make this about you,” you hissed, whipping around to face Sam fully. “You always do this—act like you know best, like I’m some reckless idiot who doesn’t know when to fall in line.”
Sam’s eyes flared. “I’m trying to protect you!”
“Maybe I don’t want your protection!” you shouted. “Maybe I want your respect, Sam!”
Dean smacked a hand against the steering wheel, hard. “Enough!” His voice boomed through the car, his fingers clenched white around the wheel. “We’re ten minutes from home. Can you two cool it until then?”
But the damage was already done.
The rest of the drive was deathly quiet, tension thick enough to choke on. Your face was turned back toward the window, but your reflection shimmered faintly in the glass, pale and tired and angry. You couldn’t look at Sam without feeling the heat of resentment boiling in your chest, couldn’t look at Dean without guilt prickling at your skin for dragging him into this over and over again.
The only thing louder than the silence was your heartbeat.
By the time the Impala rolled into the garage, the sky was darker, and the rain had settled into a steady, icy drizzle. You were out of the car the moment Dean cut the engine, your boots splashing through a shallow puddle as you stormed toward the bunker’s entrance.
“Y/N—wait,” Sam called behind you, but his voice was breathless, worn.
You didn’t wait. But you didn’t walk fast enough to miss him catching up either.
“Just stop,” he said, grabbing your arm. “You’re not hearing me.”
You yanked your arm away, spinning on your heel just as you reached the concrete landing.
“No, Sam. You’re not hearing me. I did what I had to do. You don’t get to keep throwing that in my face like I’m a goddamn liability.”
Dean hung back by the car, one hand rubbing at his brow as he watched the storm of a relationship he’d once rooted for crash and burn in real time.
“You almost died,” Sam said again, quieter this time, but no less furious. “I watched you nearly bleed out. And you didn’t even look back.”
Your throat tightened, but you swallowed it down. “Because I knew you’d come. I trusted you to get there. I trusted you to have my back. But apparently, that only goes one way now.”
Sam flinched like the words had cut deeper than a blade. “That’s not fair.”
“No, what’s not fair is having to prove myself to you on every damn hunt. You question every decision I make. You treat me like I’m reckless when all I’m trying to do is save people. What does that say about what you think of me?”
The wind picked up, slicing through your wet clothes and damp hair, but neither of you moved.
Sam exhaled a slow, hard breath, running a hand down his face. “Maybe…” he said softly, bitterly, “maybe this just isn’t working anymore.”
The words echoed in the space between you. For a moment, it didn’t feel real. Then it felt too real.
You blinked. Your voice came out smaller than you meant it to. “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying I don’t know how to fix this. I don’t know how to talk to you without it turning into a fight. I don’t even know if we’re good for each other anymore.”
Dean’s stomach dropped, and he stepped forward instinctively, but stopped himself. He’d never felt so useless.
“I guess we’re done then,” you said after a long moment, your voice like frost on glass.
You didn’t wait for him to reply. You turned and descended into the bunker, footsteps echoing like gunshots in the stairwell.
Sam stood in the rain long after the door closed behind you.
The next few days dragged like molasses.
You and Sam stayed out of each other’s way like professionals. It was almost surgical, how you divided the bunker between you—one on research, one on patrol; one in the kitchen, the other skipping meals. It was quiet, too quiet. No music. No movies. No laughs down the hall late at night. Just space.
And Dean hated every second of it.
He tried to get you both to talk. Failed. Tried again. Failed harder.
He watched you sitting at the map table with your chin in your hand, eyes glazed over as you scanned lore like it meant nothing. He watched Sam retreat to the library, burying himself in books with red-rimmed eyes and a permanent crease in his brow. You both looked wrecked. You both looked alone.
And Dean was sick of it.
One night, he sat alone in his room, flipping his lighter open and shut, staring at his phone as if it held the answers. It didn’t.
But maybe someone else did.
He stood abruptly, heading to the war room, boots echoing on the stone floor. The room felt colder somehow. Still.
He glanced up at the carved Enochian on the ceiling, the fading candlelight flickering against the ancient symbols. His voice was low, gruff—but clear.
“Alright, you little diapered bastard,” he muttered. “I said I’d never call you again. But I’m calling in that favor.”
He took a breath.
“Cupid. We need to talk.”
Dean stood alone in the war room, arms folded across his chest, jaw tight. The candles flickered once—then again, heavier, like the flame itself was holding its breath. Then, with a low pop, the air shifted, warmer and sweeter, like the scent of blooming roses on a spring breeze.
A tall man appeared in the doorway, wearing a brown suit two sizes too tight and a crooked, half-smile that screamed trouble. His curly hair bounced as he stepped forward, and his eyes twinkled like he was in on a joke you hadn’t heard yet.
“Well, well,” Cupid said, clasping his hands together. “Dean Winchester, asking me for help. How the mighty have fallen.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “Cut the crap, Cupid. I need a favor.”
Cupid’s smile widened. “Oh, I know. Heartbreak in the House of Winchester. Tragic. Poetic. Very Nicholas Sparks.”
Dean groaned. “I’m serious. Y/N and Sam—they called it quits. And now this place feels like a goddamn funeral parlor.”
Cupid’s teasing faltered, just a little. “I thought they were soul-matched?”
“They were,” Dean said quietly. “Still might be. But they’re both too damn stubborn to see it.”
Cupid tilted his head, sympathy flickering in his expression. “Love gets messy, Dean. Even destined love.”
“I’m not asking you to mess with free will,” Dean said, holding up his hands. “I just… need a nudge. Something to remind them what they felt. Before it all went to hell.”
Cupid studied him for a moment longer, then sighed and reached into the inner pocket of his jacket.
“Okay, okay.” Cupid snapped his fingers, and two crystal vials appeared in his hand. One shimmered silver, the other pale pink.
“These work like a pair of arrows,” he explained, holding them up. “One drink connects to the other. It doesn’t force love. It simply… unlocks the heart and ties it to whoever drinks the second vial.”
Dean frowned. “So what—you give one to Sam, one to Y/N, and they’re back on track?”
“If there’s still something there, yes,” Cupid said, shrugging. “But timing matters. Emotion matters. They have to be in the same room, the same… current.”
Dean took the vials carefully, slipping them into the pocket of his flannel. “You sure this is safe?”
“It won’t make anyone fall in love,” Cupid said. “It’ll just help them remember how.”
Dean nodded, but something uneasy buzzed in his gut.
“I mean it, Dean,” Cupid added, looking at him seriously for once. “Give one to Y/N. Give the other to Sam. No substitutions.”
“Yeah,” Dean muttered. “Got it.”
Dean took it carefully. The glass was warm in his hand.
“Slip it into their drinks,” Cupid said, voice unusually serious. “Together. At the same time. It only works if they’re in the same space—physically and emotionally.”
Dean nodded, tucking the vial into his coat. “Thanks.”
Cupid smiled again, softer this time. “Just remember, Dean—you can't force love. The heart will want what it wants.”
Dean frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
But Cupid was already gone, a rush of petals in the air the only thing left behind.
You curled deeper into the blanket on your bed, staring up at the ceiling like it might hold some kind of answer.
It didn’t.
The familiar sounds of the bunker echoed distantly through the stone halls—Dean clanging something in the kitchen, the low hum of the power lines—but it all felt a hundred miles away. You hadn’t left your room in nearly a day. Maybe two. The time was a blur of ache and silence.
The break-up hadn’t just ended a relationship. It had cracked the foundation beneath you.
You rolled onto your side, pulling the blanket tighter around your shoulders. Your chest ached with that dull, hollow sting that came in waves—just when you thought you could breathe, it would pull you under again.
You hated how quiet it was. How empty.
Your hand drifted to your phone. You almost texted Dean. Almost. But what would you say? "Hey, mind if I unload all my emotional baggage on you while you eat pie?" It didn’t feel fair. He was Sam’s brother, after all.
Besides, Dean didn’t do emotional rants. Not unless you wanted a drink, a hunt, or a fistfight. He wasn’t exactly the “let’s talk about our feelings” type.
You closed your eyes and sighed, letting the silence thicken.
Then, quietly, almost shyly, you whispered into the air.
“Castiel.”
A moment later, the air stirred, and when you looked up, he was there.
“Hello,” Castiel said softly, stepping into the room like a shadow moving into light.
You gave a tired smile. “You came.”
He nodded with the ghost of a smile appearing on his lips. “You called.”
You patted the bed beside you. “Sit. I need to… I don’t know. Say things. To someone.”
Castiel moved slowly, lowering himself beside you. He sat stiffly at first, like a soldier on duty, but relaxed once your shoulder brushed his.
“I broke up with Sam,” you began, voice low. “Or maybe he broke up with me. It’s kind of a blur.”
Castiel was silent, eyes fixed on you, open and waiting.
“I think we were both just... tired. Of fighting. Of expecting the other to change.” You exhaled, shaky. “He thought I was reckless. I thought he was controlling. And I guess when love starts to feel like a battlefield, eventually you put your weapons down and walk away.”
Castiel nodded once. “That sounds painful.”
You laughed, hollow. “Yeah. That’s one word for it.”
He didn’t offer advice. Didn’t tell you Sam would come around or that time would heal it. He just sat beside you and listened. It was the best gift anyone had given you in days.
“I don’t regret loving him,” you added, after a long pause. “But I don’t think he ever really saw all of me. Not the parts that don’t fit into neat boxes. Not the wild pieces.”
Castiel looked at you then, really looked. “I see you,” he said gently. “All the pieces.”
Your heart twisted—not in a romantic way, not yet—but in gratitude. In the deep, rare comfort of being understood.
“I know,” you said quietly, blinking back something warm. “That’s why I called you.”
Castiel stood slowly. “Do you want me to stay?”
You shook your head. “No. But thank you.”
With a final glance, he vanished, the faint rustle of wings brushing your ears.

You grunt as you pull yourself off the floor. Pain coursing through your shoulder, arm, and head as you look around the room. Pallets of equipment covered in tarps surround the room. A dim light only lets you see the center of the room. You look towards the exit but it is covered in rubble leaving you with no way out. Kate had shot an explosive arrow which had went terribly wrong.
“What the fuck is wrong with you!” Your eyes land on the raven haired girl who is dusting herself off. “What’s wrong with me? What is wrong with you? You pushed me.” Kate shoots back at you. Anger now taking over and making you forget about the pain you’re in.
Your Dad Tony Stark sent you on this mission with Kate. You and her don’t get along, always bickering and trying to one up the other. Most of the Avengers know that you both can’t stand to be in the same room with one another so why did your father send you out with her of all people. It’s not that you don’t find the girl endearing but she just, you don’t know how to put your finger on it. This mission was supposed to be easy in and out but that all changed in a matter of moments.
“I had to push you you idiot or did you want to fucking die?” You scoff as you jump and sit on one of the pallets. Grimacing when you poke at the bullet wound adorning your left arm not even being able to lift it to get a better look at the wound. Kate’s features soften for a moment as she sees your condition. You look up at her and see her shifting as she looks at you just causing you to scowl. “Oh so you had a death wish, got it. Next time leave me the fuck out of it.” Kate quickly snaps out of it. “If you hadn’t pushed me then we wouldn’t be in this mess.” Her arms cross over her chest as she huffs. You roll your eyes. “Kate, that agent would have shot you if I hadn’t pushed you out of the way.” You notice how Kate’s nostrils flare when she is angry. “I would have been fine. I would have gotten him.”
Your patience is already wearing thin as your arm bleeds and you can now feel blood trickling down your face from your head. “He would have killed you, but I took the damn bullet.” You shake your head at the other girl and she shakes her head. “I could have gotten him.” You groan at her arrogance. “No you wouldn't, you didn’t even see him.” Kate just scoffed. She doesn’t want to admit she is wrong and that you are right. “Well if he was going to kill me why did you save me hmm? I thought you hated me.” Kate counters. You don't know what to say. You don’t hate her at all. Yes she annoys the hell out of you but she is a good person and someone that you can rival with. “Why did you do it Y/n?” She raises her voice. When you still stay quiet she yells. “Why the fuck did you save me if you hate me so much?”
“Because I fucking love you you idiot!” You yell back before going quiet and looking down. You honestly didn’t expect for that to come out of you and neither did Kate. Her jaw dropped as the room was completely silent. It takes her a moment to comprehend what you said. “W-what.” That is when the panic starts to build in you. You just told Kate that you love her. You hadn’t even accepted the fact in your mind before your heart took over and made you yell it out. Kate couldn’t lie she has always found you attractive and hated to admit that she was falling for you even though you bicker all the time. She just thought nothing could ever happen since you obviously hated her but she knows that she was wrong now.
You can’t bring yourself to look at her as you try to take part of your suit off. You need to check your wound and you want to forget that you just admitted feeling you haven’t fully grasped. “I-It’s nothing.” You mumble. You whimper when you can’t get your suit from off your shoulder.
Kate snaps out of her stupor when she hears you whimper in pain. She quickly makes her way over to you. “I think your shoulder is dislocated.” You hadn’t noticed how close Kate had gotten until you looked up startled. You don’t say anything and just nod. “Let me help.” You want to push her away and deal with it yourself but you know you can’t so you just nod again. “Okay.”
Kate looks over you to assess your injuries. When her explosive arrow went off it sent you flying into the wall. Your shoulder taking most of the impact and your head hitting against the wall. Blood drips down your face from the cut on your head. A sliver of it peaking through your hairline. All of the anger washes away as she sees the bullet wound adorning your arm. You were right and she might have been dead if you hadn’t pushed her out of the way. Your left side taking the brunt of all your injuries. Kate uses what Clint has taught her in order to treat you in the field. She helps get your suit down until it is sitting around your hips but you are wearing a long sleeve black shirt underneath. Kate hesitates before asking. “May I?”
You’re worried about Kate seeing you without your shirt on. Some of your past is only known to a select few outside of your immediate family. Four people to be exact Fury, Steve, Natasha, and Wanda. But you know for her to be able to help you she needs more access so you nod once again. A lump forming in your throat as she carefully removes your shirt. If she sees the scars she isn’t letting on but you know she can see them and you're thankful that she isn’t bringing attention to them.
It’s mostly silent other than your grunts and whimpers of pain as Kate pops your shoulder back in place and dresses your wounds. Leaving you thankful for the silence but the room is tense. Once Kate is done you look up at her and give her a soft smile. “Thank you.” It’s barely above a whisper but she hears it. Kate is about to speak before you cut her off. “I’m sorry.” Tears shine in your eyes not meeting her gaze. So many emotions are flooding you and you are struggling to hold onto one. “What for?” Kate asks you. “For everything. I was mean and spiteful to you for no reason. Well, more like I was scared.” Kate’s gaze softens. “Scared of what?” You struggle to find the right words to say. “Scared of what you would think of me. Scared of feelings that I don’t understand.” You look up at her and she sees the tears shining in your eyes. “I thought if I pushed you away and just was, I don’t know meaner to you I could just get rid of those feelings. I thought it would be better if you just hated me instead. But instead you made me fall for you more and I know that now. You don’t have to accept anything from me and you can hate me. I just wanted you to know that I’m sorry.”
Kate takes the chance she cups your cheeks leaning in and kissing you. You're surprised but soon reciprocate the kiss. You don’t even realize how heated the kiss has gotten until Kate pulls away and you're breathing heavier. She leans her forehead against yours and whispers. “I love you too Y/n.” You look into her eyes for any hint of doubt but all you find is truth. Kate pulls back slightly her hands moving to your waist. Your legs wrapping around her waist and pulling her closer just wanting to feel closer to her.
That is when you feel it. Her bulge in her pants and you can tell just from the short make out session that it definitely stirred something within her. Kate notices that you can tell and starts to pull away. “I-I’m sorry.” You wrap your legs around her tighter and shake your head. “I want you Kate, please.” You grind your hips lightly making the other girl groan. “R-right here?” You don’t know where some of this confidence has come from but with your good arm you cup her cheek in your hand and rub gently. “Katie we are kind of stuck here and I just want to feel you.” Your words flipping a switch in her grip on your waist tightening. “Fuck.” She groans.
Kate is quick to help rid you of the rest of your suit. Tossing it to the side already sees a wet patch forming on your underwear. She bites her lip admiring your body. You normally would be self conscious of your body but the look in Kate’s eyes has that washing away. Letting yourself be vulnerable with her. She doesn’t seem to care about the scars that litter your body. She only sees the beauty in your strength.
A finger hooks into the waistband of your underwear as Kate slides them down your thighs until they fall to the ground. Your body is now naked in front of the fully dressed woman but not for long. Kate eagerly strips down until she is only in a sports bra and boxers. You can see her cock straining against the fabric. You reach out for her, wanting her to come closer, but she takes her time. Finally pulling her boxers down and letting her cock spring free. She is much larger than you had expected. Kate notices your look of shock which makes her feel a little self conscious. She is about to step back when you reach for her again. “Katie.” She hesitates for a moment so you speak again. “I’ve never taken anything… anyone so big before.” Kate relaxes, finally stepping closer to you, slotting herself between your legs. “If at any point it becomes too much, let me know and I’ll stop.” She gets closer, the tip of her cock bumping your clit making you groan.
“Please Katie.” Your need and want for her taking over. Kate just chuckles with one hand on her cock as she looks down slowly, swiping it through your folds. Coating it in your juices. She hasn’t even done anything yet and you're already a dripping mess. She is entranced by your dripping pussy as she keeps teasing you. You whine a little and buck your hips but that doesn’t stop her teasing. You start to grow frustrated. “Stop teasing and just fuck me already.” You're barely able to get the words out before Kate is thrusting her length into you. Her cock splitting you open and stretching your walls further than ever before.
“O-oh fuck.” You gasp. Kate takes a minute with her hands going back to grip at your hips. “Shit so fucking tight.” Kate starts to ease out before pushing back in. A painfully delicious stretch as she picks up speed. Small breathy moans start tumbling from your lips as Kate pistons her hips into you. Kate looks from where you two are connected looking at your already blissed out face. Your mouth hangs slightly open as moans continue to fall from your lips. “Fuck so this is how I get you to shut up pretty girl. Fucking your tight little hole with by big cock.” You can’t help the blush that rises as you nod your head words escaping you.
Kate tests the waters with you a little bit as one of her hands moves up to your neck wrapping around it loosely. Your eyes widen and with a particularly hard thrust from Kate you moan. She applies some pressure to your throat causing another moan to be caught in your throat. Your head falling back and your arm wrapping around Kate and digging your nails into her back causing her to moan. You like the sound of her moan so you scratch down her back and clench around her length. More moans tumbling from her lips. Your combined moans bouncing off the walls as Kate continues fucking herself into you.
“Mmmm K-Kate.” Your words breathy as the knot grows tighter. Kate's hand is still firm around your neck as she drives her hips into yours. “Fuck you feel so good around me baby girl.” Kate leans in kissing you. You moan into her mouth giving her access, allowing her tongue to explore your mouth. Your legs pull her closer to you as your nails draw blood on her back. You're both so close. Kate’s thrust becomes sloppy as she draws near. You grind your hips into hers looking for your release.
“Wanna cum baby girl?” Kate mumbles against your lips. Trying desperately to hold her own orgasm back wanting to see and feel you fall apart for her. “Mmm please.” You whimper. “Cum for me.” Kate demands. Your vision blurs and your legs shake around her hips. Your nails racking down her back leaving angry red lines cuming harder than you have ever cum before gushing around her cock which just sets Kate off. Her hips stutter as she paints your walls white. Her thrust slows as she continues to cum. Filling you so full there is a slightly large bulge on your lower abdomen and her cum leaking out around her cock. You have never felt this full in your life but it’s a feeling that you could get used to.
When Kate stops her hands drop from your throat as she wraps her arms around you and buries her head in your neck pulling you as close as possible. Your head falls on her shoulder as you both hold one another panting. When you both have calmed down enough Kate pulls back and looks at your disheveled state finding you even more beautiful than before. “That was…” You breathe and Kate finishes. “Wow.” Which causes you both to giggle.
Kate slowly pulls out of you which causes you to wince and whimper. “I’m sorry.” She says hating that she could have hurt you. “It’s ok Katie, just sensitive.” You say with a small smile. She smiles back at you before her attention is drawn down. She watches as a mix of both of your cums leak out of you. Wish she could just push back into you making sure that it all stays in but she doesn’t want to hurt you. So Kate does what she can to make you more comfortable. She wanders around setting up a small place for the both of you to lay down. Once she is done she picks you up but you stop her. “Kate, I can walk.” You slap at her arm lightly. She holds up her hands in defense. You get up but your legs wobble and your knees give out. You would have hit the ground if it weren’t for Kate’s strong arms catching you. “Don’t say it.” You warn the girl. She just chuckles.
Soon you’re both laying on the ground, you on your side that isn’t injured cuddled up into Kate’s side. Your bummed arm draped lightly over her stomach. Her arms wrapped securely around you as her fingers dance across your skin lightly brushing the large scar adorning your side. You know that she is just absentmindedly just doing it but you feel safe with her. Your head that was laying on her chest now propped up on your chin looking at the raven haired girl. “Would you like to know?” You question her, your words soft. Kate smiles at you. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
You lay your head back on her chest and let out a deep sigh. “When I was 13 a group of men kidnapped me. The daughter of the great Tony Stark should be able to get access to all the money and weapons they desire. I don’t know why they thought a 13 year old would have that but I guess they weren’t all that smart. When I couldn’t give them what they wanted they tortured me.” You have to pause for a second letting out a shaky breath. Kate is listening and holding you close for comfort. “I was there for a week with little food or water. Right before my Dad found me they took a large knife and literally skinned my side. They um, they sent it to my Dad which actually helped him find me. For as dumb as they were, they were also good at hiding. Not many people know outside of my Mom and Dad. Only Fury, Steve, Natasha, and Wanda and well I guess now you.”
You nuzzle into Kate’s chest trying to stop the tears from falling. You can hear Kate sniffle causing you to look up at her and see the tears shining in her eyes. Her other hand moves up to cup your cheek. “I’m so sorry that happened to you Y/n/n.” You give her a reassuring smile. “It’s ok. I um still go to therapy for it and still have some nightmares but they have gotten better.” She leans in and kisses your forehead. The room grows silent as you both lay in each other's embrace.
Your eyes flutter closed as you grow close to sleep but you're woken when you hear a voice and not of Kate’s. Your com is sitting on top of your clothes. You quickly crawl over to it and stick it in your ear. “Y/n/n are you there? Please be there.” You hear your Dads voice come through the com. “Dad?” You question hoping you're not just hearing things. “Thank god you’re alive. Are you hurt? Is Kate there with you?” He asks quickly. “Yes Dad, we are ok.” You tell him as Kate is behind you rubbing her hand up and down your back. “Y/n is injured but I patched her up the best I can.” You can’t help but look back at her and scowl which just causes her to smirk. “Shit, okay. We have your tackers and we are working to get you two out of there. I’ll have medical on standby.” You huff. “Dad, I'm fine.” Kate talks over you. “No, she was shot.” Your head shoots back to look at her again. “It was nothing.” Your Dad is silent for a moment. “Medical will be ready to look you over when we get you out. We should get to you in less than an hour.” You nod your head like your Dad can see you but you realize he can’t. “Okay see you soon.”
You push Kate when you stop talking to your dad. “I just want to help you baby girl.” You can’t help but sigh knowing that she is right. Your cheeks are also heating up from hearing her call you that which just makes the girl smirk at you. So you push her playfully. You both quickly get dressed Kate helping you get dressed as you wait to be rescued.
—---------
You’re sitting in the lab with your Dad as you work on upgrades for yours and Nat’s weapons. You even have some ideas for Kate which makes you smile to yourself. But the smile soon falls when the familiar feeling in your stomach has you stopping. The tools once in your hands clatter on the counter as you lung for the trashcan. With the trash can now grasped in your hands and propped on your lap the small amount of content in your stomach is thrown up. Tony is behind you in seconds rubbing his hand up and down your back.
Once you're done throwing up you set the trashcan back down and wipe your lips. “If I didn’t know any better I would think you were pregnant. You’ve been sick the last few days kiddo.” Tony says as he tries to comfort you. But his words spark something inside of you. You think back. It has been two months since the mission and you and Kate had sex. You’re just now realizing that you haven’t had your period either.
You start to panic as you realize that your Dads words more than likely ring true. Tony watches your expression change. You get up and start to move around the lab. Tony grabs you and stops you in your tracks. “Hey kiddo calm down.” His hands are on your shoulder. You look up to him with tears in your eyes. “I-I need to go to the store.” He knows what you want and shakes your head. “We can do a blood test here in the lab. It is much more accurate than those tests.” You give your dad a small nod. He leads you over to his work area having you sit as he gets ready to draw your blood. You're both quiet as he sets up. As he starts taking your blood he speaks. “I didn’t even know you were seeing someone.” You sigh and look down. “It’s complicated Dad.” He is silent for a moment as he pulls the needle out and places a piece of gauze on the spot. You hold it there and pull your arm back. “Are you going to tell me who it is?” He asks you but you stay silent.
As Tony starts running the test you go and brush your teeth before coming back to the silent room and continuing your work. Trying everything to distract yourself from the gnawing feeling in your gut. You don’t know how much time has passed. It feels like it is going slow and fast at the same time. You're brought back to reality when the computer beeps. You watch as your Dad rolls over to the computer screen and pulls up the results. You can’t see through his head but you're scared to look. It’s not that you don’t want kids, it is the fact you didn’t expect to have any right now and you’re not even dating Kate.
Tony rolls out of the way and angels the screen towards you. The screen shows pregnant. You can feel the tears welling in your eyes as they move to your Dad’s face. You can’t tell what he is feeling at the moment but all you do is start to cry. “I-I’m sorry Daddy. I didn’t… I didn’t mean to.” You don’t even know why you're crying but just as before Tony is to you in seconds this time wrapping his arms around you tightly as you cry into his chest. He reassures you as he holds you close. Once you start to calm down he speaks up again. “Do you want to keep it?” You nod as you pull back a little and look up at him. There is a small smile on his face. “Now are you going to tell me who fucked my daughter?” You push at him a little as he chuckles which just brings a smile to your face. You know you are going to have to tell him because you have to tell Kate but you're still a little scared and you know if you don’t do it now you won’t have the courage.
“Promise you won’t get mad?” You look at Tony who is still holding you in his arms. “Was it an Avenger?” He questions you. You pull back from him and wipe some of the tears off your face. “Please don’t be mad.” You tell him. “You fucked another Avenger!” He exclaimed. “Dad, if you don’t promise me that you aren’t going to be mad and respectful, I'm not going to tell you.” Tony grumbles but agrees. You let out a sigh before speaking again. “F.R.I.D.A.Y.?” It is quiet for a moment. “Yes Miss. Stark?” A female voice is heard overhead. “Can you please ask Kate to please come down to the lab.” You don’t dare to look at your Dad as you talk. “Right away Miss. Stark.”
When you finally meet your Dad’s gaze his mouth is hanging open in shock. Everyone knew that you and Kate didn’t get along so how could it be her. Though most have noticed that since your mission with her and being trapped together your dynamic has changed. You two wanted to keep things private and navigate these changes without the others knowing. So in front of the others you two were friendlier with one another but spent time together to get to know one another in private. Most just figured you two being trapped together changed things for you both but this wasn’t on their bingo cards for sure.
The door creaks open bringing your attention to the Raven hair girl that walks through the door. Kate notices the tear stains on your face and her gaze softens. “Is everything okay? F.R.I.D.A.Y. said you were looking for me.” She looks between you and Tony and she can see the obvious scowl on his face. You give her a short nod before speaking up. “Dad, can you give us the room?” But he doesn’t move, still scowling at the other girl. “Dad you promised.” He grumbles and moves to leave. “Don’t try anything funny with my daughter, I'll be watching you.” He says to Kate as he walks by before heading out the door. He has always been protective over you and even more so of your sister so it is no surprise that he is acting like this.
“Y/n/n what's wrong?” Kate asks you but you don’t say anything, just taking her hand and walking her over to the screen. You drop her hand as you turn the screen for her to read. You drop your head not wanting to see her reaction. Not wanting to see her upset with you. The room goes silent once again as the results of the screen sink in. “You.. You’re pregnant?” Kate questions. You finally look up at her as tears that you didn’t even know were there start slipping down your face. You nod. “I-I’m so sorry. I didn’t m-mean for-” Your cut off when Kate wraps her arms around you and picks you up spinning you around.
You have to tell her to stop and put you down before you throw up all over her. She quickly puts you down but doesn’t let you go. “I’m sorry.” You mumble looking down. Kate removes one of her arms from around you and makes you look up at her. “Why are you sorry?” You can see genuine excitement in her eyes but also the concern she has for you. “Because I got pregnant.” You tell her feeling disappointed in yourself. She just shakes her head at you with a soft smile on her face. “You don’t need to be sorry for that. It takes two to make a baby and last time I checked I wasn’t the only one who came that day.” Her words make you blush a little and she chuckles. “I want kids more than anything baby girl and I would love to have them with you if that is what you wanted.”
You can’t help the happy tears that fall. “More than anything.” You mumble. You were so scared before but now all you have is excitement for a new chapter. Kate leans in capturing your lips with hers. The kiss becomes heated quickly as Kate pulls you closer, but you're both broken apart when you hear banging on the glass. You pull back looking past Kate at your Dad who is banging on the glass walls of the lab. You wave him off knowing that he is grumbling to himself. You both laugh at the situation before Kate gives you another quick peck.
Kate looks down at you love and desire in her eyes. She moves one of her hands onto your stomach with a smile, her gaze on your stomach before looking back up at you. “Y/n Stark will you be my girlfriend?” You shed some more tears as you smile and nod. “I would love nothing more than that.” You kiss Kate again before pressing your foreheads together basking in the moment and the excitement of what is to come next on this new journey.

The Hell of Wait
Imagine this: You are the Queen of Ithaca. You gave birth at most like 5 months ago and your husband is gone to fight a war. You are now to raise this kid by yourself. The war itself takes ten years. You get the news he won, and the other kings are back in their homes, but yours is still there. He probably died. Now you have to entertain suitors who believe he and all the 600 men he took to war died and they turn out to be the a gang of assholes that pester you and your son. You wait.
You and your mother in law still believe he will come but he takes so fucking long she dies of a broken heart. You keep waiting.
You are forced to keep serving the suitors, forced to spend stupid amounts of money everyday on food and wine, throw banquets, parties, allow your home to be desecrated and is forced to house the freeloaders, no matter how much unsufferable they are, because of divine law. And you can't even complain because said divine law is the only thing that protects you from them aswell, at least for now, but you know it's only for a while. They are dangerous power hungry monsters, led by a fucking sociopath who bullies your teenage son and jokingly threatens to SA you on a daily basis, and he is so bold he does it to your son's face. Still you wait, no matter how much it hurts, you wait.
Yes, you know Zeus will punish them if they do anything, but the punishment means the crime has already been committed, so you are fucked either way. The safest thing to do would give in, but you refuse. Instead you risk your life and plot a whole scheme to fool those men and buy time for his arrival, if he's still even alive. Night after night you unthread that shroud, knowing that if any of them see you do it you are done for (ayyy). But you do it because you have faith, and you prefer to suffer the consequences that forsake the man you love. You choose to wait some more
The day you feared the most finally arrives, you have to pick and there's no running from it anymore, but you still find a way to buy more time, even if it's a few more days: The Challenge. String a bow, shoot an arrow through some axes and voilá. Perfect plan, doable enough so they can't question it but hard enough so they won't be able to do it. It works, but now the suitors are pissed and are about to raid the castle. It's over. But still, you remain waiting. if that's the last day of your life, you will spend it steadfast, unbroken, unwaivering. Waiting.
Tumblr media
I love this part, not only because it's beatiful, but because we see that she is fucking pissed. She is very fucking angry at all she's been through these goddamn 20 years. Miraculously your husband arrives just in time, and deals with the situation, the wait has paid off, You can finally see the man you love after 20 years, you can finally RELAX and the first thing he does is fix his lips to question your love? Shit, i'd be fucking pissed too!
And i love how Ody gets angry at the bed thing but instantly recognizes her feelings when she claps back and he just pipes down and shuts up. He recognizes that he might be just a man, but she is just a woman too. She was fighting monsters and storms of her own, and she knows that if he went through half of what she's been through (and she can see he's been through A LOT) and fought as hard as she did for their love, then it doesn't matter what horrible things he has done, cause if she was in his shoes, she'd do 10x worse.
I fucking love this damn musical.

pato x introverted!reader
summary: feelings begin to rise after the barber race
wc: 716
notes: this is just me trying this (writing for indycar) out! pls be nice, i’ve only watched a few races and am still learning what’s what. also i promise i’m working on the george story!!
You winced at the screen in front of you, watching as Pato’s car came in contact with Pietro’s, sending the Rahal into the barrier. You hold a hand in front of your mouth as you watch Pato continue driving, grateful that he was okay.
You know he’s going to be upset about the penalty, the radio message coming through your headphones confirms that. He sounds frustrated, angry even.
You know he wanted to do well. For his career obviously, but you knew a small part of him wanted to do well for you. You were still fairly new to Indycar, having watched races from home, sometimes yours, mostly his after he told you he liked having you there when he got home.
This was only the second race you’d attended in person, the first being the previous week in Long Beach. You and Pato had a private relationship. He knew you were more introverted and didn’t want to force you into the limelight before you were comfortable. He was ecstatic when you told him you were ready to attend a race with him. After spending almost a year together, slowly building your relationship, he was excited to finally be able to show you off and introduce you to his other love, racing.
He kept an arm around you during the race weekends, giving you his Arrow McLaren hat to wear while he was driving. He introduced you to the team and showed you his car, rambling on about different things while you smiled and nodded along.
You could tell he was disappointed to finish in the midfield in Long Beach, and seeing him angrily get out of his car after the Barber race you knew he was equally if not more upset.
You stand quietly to the side while he talks with his engineer, following behind him as he walks to the driver lounge.
He keeps quiet as he unzips his race suit, letting it fall to his waist. He searches through a cabinet, finally pulling out a snack, and another he tosses to you.
You don’t know what to say to him, afraid of how he’ll respond. He speaks first though.
“Sorry it was a shitty weekend.” His eyes don’t meet yours as he sits down.
You sigh, sitting next to him. “That penalty was bullshit.”
He looks up at you surprised. He could probably count the amount of times he’d heard you curse on one hand. “It happens.” He shrugs.
“No, it’s not like you wanted to hit him, because why the hell would you want that? And they made you drive through the pit, dropping you down so far you were driving by yourself!”
The scowl on his face slowly disappears, turning into a smile as you keep talking to him, angrily defending your boyfriend.
“They need to open their damn eyes and watch a replay-”
“I love you!” Pato laughs.
You freeze, your eyes widening at the man sitting next to you. “You… what?”
It’s then that Pato realizes what he’s said. He wonders if he should backtrack, attempt to take it back to make the terrified look on your face go away. But it’s as if someone plays a video of your relationship in his mind, showing him all the time you’ve spent together and how you’ve grown with one another.
“I love you.” He says quietly. A blush covers his cheeks as he looks down at his lap. “I wanted the first time I told you to be special, but it just kinda came out just now.” He looks back up at you and sheepishly smiles. “Look, you don’t have to say it back, I know we’re taking things slow, and even having you here was a big step so I understand if-”
It’s him who’s cut off this time as you press your lips to his. You gently hold his face in your hands, pulling away to look into his eyes.
“I love you too.” You murmur.
He grins before leaning in to kiss you again.
“I’m gonna win one soon. A real win, not because someone DQ’ed, and it’s gonna be for you.” He says when he pulls himself away from you, keeping an arm wrapped around you tightly, as if he’s not planning on letting you go.

Chapter 16: Before Night Falls
King!SukunaRyomen x Servant!FemReader
Summary: You used to be just another servant among the army of humans operating under the command of the terrible king, Sukuna Ryomen. An ordinary human who only knows how to wash, clean and cook. Until one day, he notices something in you that you hadn't seen before.
More Info.
A/N: So... I have been rereading the fic, and it needs a lot of upgrading when it comes to correcting, so I'll take next week to edit the English version of this fic and then continue uploading of Friday, September 20th. Sorry for the inconveniences.
Beginning. | ← Previous | Next →
“My almighty king, I bow before you to beg you to let me leave the castle,” you asked between tears.
“What?” Sukuna, Uraume and Kenjaku answered in unison out of shock.
Sukuna heard you, but he didn't understand what the hell you were trying to tell him. You had dedicated a year of your life to serve him, just killed someone for him, and now you wanted to leave the castle? After he had given you everything to keep you happy and prevent this exact situation. 3 substantial meals a day, a giant room with a comfortable bed, beautiful dresses, fine jewelry, a broad education and a life safe from curses. You must be out of your mind. Besides the fact that you were about to become one of the most powerful women in the world, why did you want to leave now after all? The king had never been so offended in his life.
“I have two more sisters. Nanako and Mimiko. They are barely 11 years old and they are completely alone because Yorozu killed our mother,” you explained to the king with your face hidden between the curtains of your hair and his bleeding hands. “I just want to go home to make sure they are okay. You can ask Kenjaku, Uraume or some curse to escort me. I promise to return before the sun sets,” you whimpered for mercy once again.
That sharp pain kept sprouting from his chest. That strange pang was different from the others he had experienced before. His throat was closing, so he couldn't answer you immediately. He twisted his face in an attempt to regain control of his own body. He clenched his hand in frustration at not being able to correct himself to deny any request you had out of anger, but he couldn't. “What the hell is happening to me?” he thought, annoyed.
In the absence of an answer, you crawled to his feet in the most desperate attempt to convince him at all costs. The mere thought of your little sisters being there alone was eating you alive with helplessness. You were about to play any card you had available to try to convince him. The king was going to accept, whether he liked it or not. After all, it wasn’t going to be an easy task after challenging him in front of everyone, so you would do anything for an opportunity. Unable to hold his feet because of the dirt on his hands, you kissed them delicately to show him that you were still faithful to him. You closed your eyes so as not to think too much about the shame you were going through. You transported yourself to that passionate night you shared in order to relieve your strong repulsion.
The king's face went from an angry red to a deeper, shy red. His body tensed with each gentle kiss you gave him on the back of his head. Little pricks of love that erased his anger. No one had reached that level of voluntary idolatry before. He never thought he'd see you embarrass yourself like that in front of everyone just to fulfill a relatively reasonable request.
“I'll kill as many as it takes to give me that chance, please. They're all I have left,” you whimpered, placing your forehead between his feet.
“Get up,” he ordered, annoyed.
You quickly complied as you wiped your tears with the back of your hand to avoid getting more blood on your face. You didn't look him in the eyes for fear that he would reject your request immediately, it was the last thing you wanted to hear, even though he had every right to do so after threatening him with an arrow that he himself had given you. Still, you couldn't allow yourself to lose the little hope you had. You didn't deserve him to do you that favor, much less to be alive, but you had to try.
"Let me see your hands," he asked you.
You gave them to him trembling for fear of what he would do to you next, expecting a clear punishment. Sukuna turned them over to see the state of your palms. They were completely split in half, blood gushing out every time you squeezed the surrounding skin, and you began to lose feeling. They were practically ruined, it would take months to return to normal. You wouldn't be surprised in the least if he cut them off for your terrible behavior. You looked away, not wanting to see what terrible thing he had planned for you.
“You are very brave to do something stupid like that,” Sukuna said before taking your hands to examine them, being as gentle as possible so as not to hurt you more.
You were going to answer, but something in your hand moved. The parallel wounds began to close slowly in front of your incredulous eyes. The skin folds joined with their equal as if by magic. In less than a minute, your hands had returned to normal. You opened and closed your fist in front of you to make sure you weren't hallucinating from the intense pain. “Since when can he do that?” you thought, confused.
“You did that?” You wondered, still in shock, upon learning that the killing machine was also capable of healing as well.
“It's a simple reverse curse technique,” he explained. “It processes cursed energy, which is negative by nature, into positive energy. As a result, the energy that destroys, becomes the energy that creates and heals.”
“Wow…” You sighed, amazed. You didn't know that he was capable of healing people the same way he hurts them.
“Go change, you look terrible,” Sukuna ordered you before taking Yorozu's head from the ground, handing it to Uraume to take care of it and the rest of his body that continued to stain the grass of the courtyard while you talked.
“What about my request? I really need…” You asked, begging for permission to leave the castle.
“And you're going to go see your sisters in your underwear, with smeared makeup and bathed in their other sister's blood? You're going to traumatize them,” Sukuna interrupted to scold you. “I'm going to escort you. You have 20 minutes to be at the entrance before I change my mind.” He turned around to continue along the bridge towards the entrance.
“Yes, my king. I won’t take long.” You smiled widely.
Sukuna turned around to let you return to the castle, but stopped when he felt your arms around his waist. His body subtly melted as soon as you pressed him against your warmth. Your hands on his stomach caressed his second mouth softly, while your forehead connected with the middle of his spine. A brief gesture that calmed the pain in his chest, undid the lump in his throat, and relaxed his face finally. The king's mind short-circuited as he didn't know what to do in that situation. Take your hands, caress them, push you away so you would leave, kill you? There were many options, but none seemed to be the right one.
"Thank you, my king," you whispered before letting go.
Your hands moved away from him, and he returned to the cold he had already grown accustomed to after hundreds of years in solitude. Sukuna slowly turned his gaze towards you to see you running towards the castle again, lifting your bottom to avoid tripping over the fabric. That contagious emotion placed a small smile on his face. It seemed that everything had returned to normal.
"Uraume, you already know what to do with the body," Sukuna ordered them to leave with the head of his ex-sister-in-law. Seeing her finally dead also brought him great relief.
"Yes, my king," Uraume nodded before disappearing from his sight. Sukuna was about to continue on his way, but he saw Kenjaku smiling from ear to ear with no intention of hiding it.
"What?" He asked him, somewhat annoyed by his strange expression.
“It seems like you are going on a date,” Kenjaku told him as he followed the king towards the entrance.
“It is not a date,” Sukuna scolded him. “We will go check and return before sunset.”
“But do you really have to go? You have a lot of paperwork to do. You could have easily ordered me to accompany her,” Kenjaku argued.
“It will take twice as long if you escort her. Besides, I don’t trust you enough to let her leave the castle with you,” the king answered honestly.
After Kenjaku betrayed King Jogo to serve him, he didn’t trust him enough to leave his future queen in his hands without any means of survival. He had yet to figure out what Kenjaku wanted from him specifically, and it was certainly not anything good.
“So, you won’t take this opportunity to propose to her?” Kenjaku inquired curiously. Sukuna didn't even bother to answer him. "You two alone, in the middle of the open field, the sunset behind you... You would be a real fool if you didn't." Sukuna stopped in the middle of the road and glared at him. "I was just saying it would be a good idea." Kenjaku excused himself.
"Mind your damn business!" The king exploded, continuing on his way, not paying him any more attention.
Kenjaku stepped back, raising his arms in surrender when he saw that he had disturbed him. Sukuna growled under his breath before heading to their meeting point. Your tutor stepped back, covering his face with the sleeve of his long wardrobe, pretending to be terrified of the king to satisfy his intention. "Oh, young lady, you'll need all the luck in the world with a husband like this," he thought.
Your legs moved on their own to get to the castle as soon as possible, you entered to go to your room, but stopped when you saw a large obstacle in your way. Your eyes widened as you took in the small crowd that had formed to greet you. All the servants applauded you proudly for the brave battle you had fought against the common enemy. Your feelings were mixed at receiving such warmth for such a cold act. Mrs. Inoue appeared among the servants to tearfully embrace you.
“You scared me to death, miss!” Mrs. Inoue scolded you, pressing you against her body roughly, as if she didn't want to let you go.
A small smile of happiness for having survived your sister's attack appeared on your face before you returned the hug with the same intensity. Even though you were in mourning, you were pleased that you hadn't involved any innocents in your dealings with the king. Even though all the old people had less time to live, that didn't mean you could deprive them of enjoying them. You gently pushed Mrs. Inoue away. You couldn’t afford to waste any more time.
“I must change. The king is waiting for me,” You tried to excuse yourself, but one of the servants took your arm so you wouldn't leave.
“Then put this on,” she offered you one of Yorozu's dresses.
The fabric was smooth and stretchy, it had a large ribbon at the waist for easy closure, and best of all, it had pockets. You were seriously starting to consider starting to wear those instead of the dresses that were too formal for everyday wear. You agreed without a second thought, it would save you a lot of time. The maid called for the others to hurry up and help you. With everyone's help, they quickly dressed you, fixed your battle-messed hairstyle, and cleaned your face with a slightly wet sponge.
"Oops, I ruined your makeup." Mrs. Inoue covered her face in embarrassment.
"Don't worry, it was already ruined." You replied with a friendly smile before another maid showed you the result with a hand mirror. It wasn't ideal to have the dark circles under your eyes from the terrible night before, but since there was no time for a touch-up. "Thank you all for your support. I’ll be back soon,” you thanked them with a bow before running out to the entrance as the servants waved goodbye to you.
Sukuna sighed as he finally saw you running towards him to begin the journey. You stopped in front of your king, your breath coming in short gasps from crossing the long courtyard and the drawbridge to him. With a different dress, not a drop of makeup and without all the blood, you went from looking like a warrior queen to a decent woman in a matter of minutes. Sukuna quickly noticed your purple dark circles from not sleeping well due to worry. It was a small reminder that despite looking different from everyone else, you were still just like everyone else.
“Where are we headed?” Sukuna asked you.
“To the human commune,” you replied. “Passing the hill, there are several cabins. Just follow the paths.” You pointed towards the horizon.
Passing the scary land taken over by the curses, the large green valley that belonged to the humans began. The human commune was something that Sukuna and all the curses know exists, but it is usually an area well protected by men, a difficult area to hunt. Even though Sukuna could easily invade the area to kill them all, it didn’t suit him at all. Even though the curses follow him faithfully because of his immense power, it is also because he keeps them well-fed. If he killed the commune in one blow, the curses would look for food in other lands and probably start a war against the sorcerers without being ready yet. The commune was like his personal chicken coop, why kill the chicken when it can lay eggs?
“Let’s go there then.” Sukuna crouched down in front of you, arms back, ready to carry you.
“What are you doing?” You analyzed his stance, curious as to why he was almost leaning towards you.
“It’ll be faster if I carry you on my back,” he explained. “So get on, now,” he commanded, losing patience from the embarrassment of being in that position.
You nodded obediently. You didn’t know how you were supposed to get on his big back. You were the one who always carried the others, so you had no idea what to do when someone else had to carry you. You jumped onto his back clumsily to reach out to hug him around the neck. Sukuna stood up suddenly, leaving your feet skidding in the air. With the help of his lower back, he pulled you up a little higher to better support you by the thighs. Your cheeks flushed as you felt his thumb caress your skin.
“Hold on tight and close your eyes, we’ll be there in no time,” Sukuna smiled confidently at his great speed.
You held onto his shoulders tightly and closed your eyes, hiding your face in the back of his neck as you got drunk on his strong cologne. A shiver ran down his spine as he felt your warm breath against his exposed skin. He shook his head to focus on the road. He didn’t want to waste too much time searching for your sisters, it was preferable if they returned before dinner. He pressed your thighs tightly against his body, leaving a light mark on you, before running off to the commune.
You screamed at the sky when you felt the huge difference in speed. Sukuna laughed at your adorable reaction as he ran like a bullet without brakes between the cobblestone streets, secret alleys and the occasional roof between the abundant buildings. Your heart accelerated at the same time as the large feet of your carriage did. The fabrics of their clothes fluttered against the wind as they reached the commune as soon as possible. Sukuna jumped over the wall that separated the town from the commune and finally fell on the green grass that separated the two worlds, without the slightest concern for scaring any poor human who was around. Sukuna continued running until he reached the center of the commune.
The owner of the cabin closest to the wall panicked when he saw the king running towards the commune. He ran terrified to the control tower to ring the bells that announced the possible attack of a curse. The neighbors, hearing the frightening warning, suddenly became agitated and ran to their homes to safeguard their lives in the best way they knew how, hiding. Sukuna reached the epicenter of the commune, watching as everyone greeted him with cries for help as they fled from him like cockroaches from the light.
“We have arrived,” Sukuna announced before letting you get off his back.
You staggered against your weight due to dizziness, falling to the ground in a sit-down. You held your head to make sure you were clear about where you were. You looked at the surrounding cabins, the stunned gazes of those who were your neighbors peeking out from between the curtains. You were sure they were wondering why you had brought the king of curses himself to his safe place, but there was no time to explain anything. You had to find your sisters.
You got up again to run towards your home. “Where are they?” You wondered in panic as your legs moved as fast as they could towards the furthest cabin of all. Your father had built it for your mother when they got married, far away from everyone, because your mother hated the neighbors but loved your father, so she moved with him to his hometown. “Where are they?” You looked around, anxious, searching for your sisters in any possible place they could be. “Where are they?!” Your mind roared in search of answers, praying that your little sisters were okay. A nostalgic smile crept onto your face as you reached the entrance of your old home.
“Nanako! Mimiko!” You burst through the door, breaking it because of the worn nails.
You called out to them over and over as you inspected the cabin, your heart in your hand in worry. Where there used to be a large table for everyone to eat together, a large kitchen with cooking utensils, and an armchair to hang out on, now there wasn't even a shabby rug. It was like looking at a dark, dirty blank canvas. The humidity was breathable, cobwebs hung from the ceiling, and field rats squeaked from their hiding places in the few pieces of wooden furniture that remained.
You ran to what used to be the room you shared with your sisters. The closet was empty, the curtains were full of dust, and the bed was bare. Not even the blanket their grandmother had given them was there anymore. All there was a small white envelope. You opened it carefully so as not to accidentally tear it between the trembling of your clumsy hands. Seeing who had written the letter, a tear escaped from your eyes.
“Dear sisters,
I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but if you do, it means we’re not here to welcome you. We hate living here, we always had, so we made the decision to leave since we didn’t have anyone else with us. I don’t know where we’ll go, but it will be far from the curses. I hope you don’t get mad at us for leaving, and we can meet again soon.
Lots of love, Nanako and Mimiko”
You held the letter to your chest as you sobbed softly, as this was the only physical reminder of your dear little sisters. They might appear strong in their words, but you knew they were surely terrified. They were facing a completely unknown world, far from the only terrible nation they knew. You knew the journey to human lands was long, but not impossible.
You weren't sure you could bear all the pain you had felt in one day. Carrying the mourning of your mother, the guilt of having murdered your own sister and the helplessness of not being able to do anything for your little sisters would lead to your end. Family was what mattered most, but all of that had been destroyed in less than a day. The house of your memories had burned completely, impregnating you with the smell of smoke for the rest of your life.
“I knew you were joking,” Sukuna mentioned behind you, examining the cabin’s filth with curiosity.
“What are you talking about?” You asked, confused, wiping away the hundredth tear of the day.
“What you said to Yorozu. ‘If I could go back to my quiet country life, I would in a heartbeat.’” Sukuna quoted what you said to your sister moments before killing her, entering the room. “Who in their right mind would trade a life of luxury for a filthy pigsty like this?”
The king scoffed at your stupidity. He walked around the room like it belonged to him completely, even though he had never slept on the hard bed, felt the cold floor with his bare feet, or eaten on the floor due to the lack of chairs. This place was so ugly that he wouldn’t even let his servants sleep there.
“It's not about the cabin, but what was in it,” you explained, fiddling with the envelope. “I was talking about my family, or at least, the one I used to have.”
The bed creaked as it supported the king's weight when he sat on it to take a little break after the tour. Being the same height now, he noticed your sad eyes and the small envelope you were holding tightly. Quickly, he deduced that your sisters had run away from home.
“I can order a search to find them,” Sukuna proposed, but you immediately rejected the offer.
“It's pointless. If they left on the day of the harvest, they must already be in some other kingdom,” you explained your hypothesis as you put the letter in one of the pockets in your dress. “It will sound selfish, but I prefer to think that they are fine than to look for them only to be told that some curse trapped them,” you said guiltily.
“Live happily in ignorance?” Sukuna asked you with disdain.
“I can’t deal with two more deaths, I just… it’s too much,” you said before cowardly leaving the room to drop the topic.
Sukuna looked at you confused, but that inexplicable feeling in his chest came back. He was starting to get frustrated, not knowing exactly what it was. He shouldn’t have heart problems when using his reverse curse technique, Kenjaku thought nothing was happening to him, and it didn’t happen regularly. That discomfort was driving him crazy, as if it were an occasional migraine.
The soft wind greeted you as soon as you stepped out into the yard. You passed the sink and the clothesline to slowly approach the small family cemetery. Your father's small grave was neglected but intact, while your mother's had the earth turned upside down after someone dug there. “They didn't bury her well” you thought, disappointed to see that your mother's corpse had been stolen, it was probably some curse to eat her as a midnight snack.
“Hi…” You greeted your father timidly. “The family split up, and I wasn't there to stop it,” you said as your lower lip trembled.
You hugged yourself to stop yourself from crying again. Your eyes were already fed up, they didn't want to regret the whole situation for the tenth time that day. Biting your lower lip hard, you tried to take your sensitivity by the horns. You were about to give up when Sukuna's hands took possession of your shoulders.
“Your parents?” Sukuna inquired when he saw what he was looking at.
“Yes.” Your throat cleared before answering. “My little sisters didn't build a coffin, so a curse must have eaten our mother,” you added, holding your breath to keep yourself out of the way.
“I don't understand why they cling so much to keeping bodies,” Sukuna said with annoyance. “They're just a nuisance.”
“Because humans are selfish,” you answered with some annoyance. Sukuna raised his eyebrow when he noticed your change of attitude. “Even though we know they're no longer with us, we want to have them close. The soul leaves, but the body is the only thing that stays with us,” you explained.
“Anyway, it's stupid. The body doesn't stay either. It ends up rotting when it could have been the food for a curse,” Sukuna argued. You sighed heavily.
This was really the last thing you needed in your time of mourning. Your sadness turned to anger in an instant. You weren't surprised at all that he acted so indifferent to the situation, but you wished he would at least shut up so you could go through your mourning in peace. You tried to keep your anger to yourself, but it didn't stop you from blurting out,
“Of course you wouldn't understand, you don't have a family.”
Silence invaded the moment. A chill ran down your spine, reminding you of who you were talking to. Your eyes widened as you realized the horrible comment that had escaped your lips. You looked up, thinking he would be looking at you with contempt, but you were met with his monotonous face. That scared you even more.
“I had a family,” he answered before walking away from you to leave you alone for a while.
That answer left you stunned in your place. Curses had been a true mystery for much of your life until Kenjaku came to explain everything you needed to know. These strange creatures are a race of spiritual beings invisible to most humans, incarnated from the cursed energy that escapes from humans over time due to their negative emotions. How can a curse have a family?
A new guilt began to torture your chest. After watching him walk away from you to climb the next hill, you decided to follow him to apologize, it was the least you could do. You apologized and gave your father a final bow of respect for the last time to reach the king.
"I'm sorry, I…" You tried to tell him when you reached him.
"I still remember the face of the one who used to be my mother." Sukuna completely interrupted you as he continued walking the path to the top. "She was a beautiful woman."
Sukuna, before waking up in the nightmare he had transformed into, remembered his past life almost perfectly. He had a mother who was ashamed of him, a violent father, and a twin brother he never met because he ate him in the womb. He had been born with the blessing of having power worthy of a god but with the curse of being a complete disgrace. An evil being that had no way to be fixed. A lonely child who became a sorcerer with black blood. A man thirsty to destroy everything that stood in his way. He may have disappointed many people, but never himself.
“I didn't know that…” You stuttered upon hearing about his sad past.
“Not even Uraume knows,” you confessed.
“Really?” You asked, stupefied.
“You're the only one who knows now,” Sukuna looked at you. “You've earned it after what you did for me today.”
“I didn't kill my sister for you. I did it for myself,” you answered honestly. Sukuna stopped in the middle of the road, shocked by the direct confession. “My sister not only betrayed me, but also the family I had left.”
“Why do you care so much about your family?” Sukuna held his forehead, exasperated by hearing you repeat that word. “Your father was weak, your mother sold you, Yorozu betrayed you and your other sisters abandoned you,” Sukuna asked you.
“Because I love them anyway.”
The king's lips parted slightly upon hearing that. There was no logic behind that answer. There was not a gram of reason. He had no legs or head, but he still managed to surprise him. How could you love such a broken family?
“That doesn't make sense,” Sukuna replied incredulously.
“Love doesn't need to make sense.”
The pain in his chest turned into a flutter of thousands of butterflies. A simple phrase made his cheeks feel hot, his hands sweaty, and he felt the need to cover his shame. A simple phrase made him feel an inexplicable hope that he didn't think he needed.
You looked up, you were almost at the top. You had climbed so high that it would be a shame to have to go down when you were so close. Since your sisters weren't there to run with you to see the sunset for one last time, maybe you could do it with someone new.
“Follow me, just this once,” you asked before taking one of Sukuna's arms.
He let himself be led by your guide to continue walking the path they still had to travel. They reached the top of the slope, where there was a large rock positioned perfectly to admire the rest of the valley and the human commune. The rainbow sunset, the small cabins, the leafy trees and the distant night worked in harmony like a beautiful piece of art. It was a simple sight but beautiful in its own splendor. They sat on the rock as if they were waiting for something. Maybe they were just wasting time until the sun set to return to the castle, as you had promised.
“My sisters and I used to come here every day. There isn’t much to do in the commune, so having this view is a small blessing,” you commented to the king as you watched the humans emerge from their huts, wondering if the threat had left. “What did you like to do when you were younger?” you asked.
“I didn’t have a good childhood,” the king answered honestly.
“But at least there must be something nice that you remember,” you answered curiously. Sukuna thought for a moment.
In fact, there was something he remembered. On the outskirts of the poor village where he used to live, there was a large forest that hid the most beautiful flowers he had ever seen. He didn’t know their names or what they meant, but he didn’t need to know to admire their delicacy. Their different bright colors, soft fragrance, and unique designs caught his attention. He caressed their petals, afraid of cutting them if he didn’t do it properly. A simple but welcoming and delicate touch brought him peace. Sometimes he came across a bee or two that brightened his view with their plump and fluffy bodies. The flowers were the only thing he didn't want to destroy in gratitude for never judging him.
"When I had access to all the books, I learned that if you arrange certain flowers with others they can have different meanings," Sukuna explained as he put his hand in his pants pocket, squeezing the box he had saved for that moment.
He hated to admit it, but Kenjaku was right. This was the perfect opportunity to propose to you. The great view of your homeland that merges with the land he leads, was a beautiful symbolism. They were completely alone, without any humans or curses lurking in their affairs. The golden hour was almost over, so it was now or never.
"You know? You remind me of daisies. They usually symbolize innocence, joy and purity, and you are all of those things," he explained as he looked at the horizon while he gathered courage to look you in the eyes after saying that with his cheeks flushed. “Sometimes they are hard to read because they come in many colors and the real meaning depends on this, but that's not important…” He was so nervous that he was starting to get off-topic. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves.
Wait, why was he so nervous? Sukuna never got nervous, he was always ready for whatever he was faced with. A battle against a powerful sorcerer? A piece of cake. Ordering his troops in complicated strategies? An everyday occurrence. Declaring war against humanity? The dream. Proposing? It made his hair stand on end. He couldn't believe he felt his heart beating at the possible response of his prospective wife. He was sure she would accept him, she had already done it once, he had to do it... Right?
“What really matters about daisies is knowing how many there are in a bouquet. If there are less than 3, it means friendship. If there are more than 6, it means pure love.” Sukuna stopped at that word.
He had read about it in endless poems, and it was a concept he knew existed, but he didn't fully understand it. He didn't know how it began or how it ended. It was complicated, unknown and could become problematic. For some reason, humans are fascinated with the wonderful idea that love knows no bounds. They lived for it, endured for it, and would even die for it. Sukuna was sure you would too, but him?
“What I mean is that I would give you all the daisies in the world.”
Your head rested on his arm, startling him a little. Finally, he worked up the courage to look at you and couldn’t believe it. You were completely asleep. Your softly closed eyes, your slow breathing, and your lack of posture were a clear sign that you had been sleeping while he was giving the corniest speech of his life. He wanted to be mad at you. He wanted to shake you awake. He wanted to throw the box with the ring in your face, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t even frown.
He covered you from the little sun that was left of the day with one hand, while the other caressed your peach fuzzy skin with all the care in the world so as not to wake you up. He was mesmerized by the way you breathed, the length of your eyelashes, your hair swinging against the soft wind, your hands resting on your lap and your lips slightly parted by gravity. You had had a long day, and you hadn't slept the night before, it was understandable that you were tired and just wanted to sleep to forget about the tragedies. Maybe this wasn't the time to propose.
The sun finally set behind the distant mountains, turning off the light completely. It was time to go home, but Sukuna wanted to stay there for the rest of his life. Chatting during the day, admiring you at night, and dreaming in his free time. Sukuna sighed as he realized why his chest had been acting so weird lately.
“Fucking hell,” he whispered, low enough to not wake you up. “You’re driving me crazy.”
