we just finished watching Dune (1984) and I feel insane

#I don’t even LIKE dune that much (never made it past the first book which I read 15 years ago)#but the unbelievably rushed second and third acts have me bitching about how they didn’t cover ANY of the lore #I had to pause the movie and explain things to ju a few times because she had no clue what was going on #and I thought chani was underwritten in the book…in this movie she’s almost nonexistent #the visuals are incredible though #and irulan is SO beautiful….what a waste of that actress tbh #they don’t even explain why she’s narrating? she just stood there #they could have given her one scene where she actually interacted with anyone #fandom musings

Forever thinking about the art piece in Don Hertzfeldt's short film World of Tomorrow where a clone of a child is put into a tube in a gallery and you watch him age in real time until he eventually dies at the age of 72 then the exhibit is quietly removed without any notice.

#don hertzfeldt #i think his work isnt take so seriously because hes the spoon too big meme guy #but god the movies and shorts he has been putting out all have stuck with me for years #his stories are gorgeous and rich and deeply meaningful and heartbreaking #but i think people get put off by the visual style being intentionally simple stick figure type characters #he uses it masterfully though and the films arent held back by it at all and are incredibly creative visually #his films are stunning visually they have so much texture and life and it all comes together perfectly #i could gush about his work for hours

#ffxiv #hermes #meteion #hi tumblr friends! this took me roughly 3.5 hours to complete #i super enjoy filling canvases with little things it's incredibly rewarding whenever i go back to look at them #don't ask me how many meteia there are in this though i didn't count #oh speaking of filled canvases i find that a key factor in them being visually interesting is colour variation #well that and having many things to look at #it ultimately depends on where you want to pull focus too but for something more generalised an even spread is best

#or smth smth. having a lot of Thoughts. anyways here's the piece i've been working on and sometimes u have to just say Done #there's a lot of thinks but i am maybe a bit tired and so tmr i'll come in and add all the Tags that i'd personally want to get from myself #maybe i'll reblog the extras tmr too. this is an incredibly self indulgent piece + it probably deserves a tag ramble essay or smth #ig for now we see how it stands for itself + in the meantime:#adamandi #beatrix valeria campbell #hello!! i'm back with belated tags yippee!! alright so for funsies i'm going to make it sound like i'm going bonkers over this :3 #the eye shine... the glowy eye... it's like phaethon shine but also smth about eyes to windows to the soul and like #there's two beatrixes here! half the soul. lost part doing things specific to the phaethon and here it's portrayed as tearing off her name #because that's really; truly; when it all starts!! also notable for the ghostly beatrix is i did it more painterly and cloaked in shadow and #fading into the bg. i think i was super duper specificish about where the glow comes from! front lighting back lighting beloved!!! like help #let's put it this way- beatrix face always glowy. important parts of paper also glowy. it's just that different elements are turned away #from the viewer by each beatrix!! also also. let's talk about the very gently implied blood and red etcetera #like the red string is canonical and i love personally the whole red strings of fate thing even though it's not Here Applicable exactly but #that definitely was an influence! and also the blood in the bg... i'm starting to think this is a recurring trend. but anyway shadowy bea #the other strings hang while the red string loops!! so like that one string feels almost alive. it's a sort of whimsical i put on the same #as metaphorical glowy eye!! also also the eye is lowkey influenced by the whole idea of Eyes and Spotlights within the show and also glow #as in power as in heyyy you ever think about writing as a visual medium huh #speaking of writing!! there is no beatrix thingy complete in my head without text sorrry but the black text overlays are always so >>> to me #and in the sense of art styles and overlays shoutout to all the black crosshatching outline thingys because For Some Reason in my mind #of all the characters beatrix feels like the bnw ink printed illustrations you get in books idk #fun fact! i spent so long rendering this and that was fine i liked it! but then trying to figure out text to go on the papers was a Thing #i tried to do. but then gave up on! sometimes i have to pick my battles and graphic design is indubitably Not my passion bc Fonts #fun facts about this is i Actually did start with a quick sketch in mind and there's been so many changed elements. in the og the front #paper for instance had 'ardess murders' written on it and the back one said phaethon interviews.. i like the nominee list better it feels #more narrative-esque and less passive than her just holding her writing.! other elements that got discontinued were that #front beatrix was supposed to blur into the other ghostly beatrix but i couldn't do it without sacrificing clarity so... no... no blurry #oh and the red string morphing at the ends to smth more abstract was always there from the start!! og had more floating papers #and also a silhouette of vincent and a scalpel bc 'one who pulls the strings' but that (pun intended)! got cut (hahahahahahaha) (sorry)#used also to be a lot of print room clutter but that got cut to bc compositionally i made beatrix larger (learned lesson from last art)

Man for real do I have to start warning my epileptic friends about the end boss of Shadow of the Erdtree? Because like I do not have epilepsy and despite that this dude's second phase is fucking rough to look at

ideologically I [often] don't agree with historical caricature art but they really went off with the visually depicting aspects of daily life & dress & types of people you almost never see shown in other types of contemporary art

#idk how to describe it but i really do love a lot of caricature art dearly even though i disagree with it. just for showing all that.#it's the same as with historical comedies they can be loathesome but the Amount it has to show you abt history is incredible #<- like the very act of criticizing or laughing at or exaggerating what obviously was common enough to Be made fun of like that #- that medium then preserving that aspect of life forever in a way that more positive or 'respectable' mediums never would. idk idk #thoughts #also just like invaluable as visual references lol #i say often here bc sometimes they do have good politics actually

#more thoughts below here be warned. i really enjoyed the introductory sequence and how it juxtaposed varric's dramatized version with the #real sequence of events. i also enjoy how they tied in lothering. imo id say the game has a really solid start. i also really enjoy the #visuals and stylistic direction of the game- i'd even go so far as to say i largely prefer it to inquisition (its just the oilyness LMFAO)#esp with the qunari and how they look.. less so with the proportions of the elves* (something that really irked me in inquisition is how #harold is forced to have the very clearly downscaled proportions while the elvish npcs (solas sera and basically every other elf #you interact with) dont have the slouched shoulders and very? crumpled looking frame). dont like that youre forced only to play as a human #though its very obvious that they were not given a reasonable amount of time to actually finish the game because OH MY GOD the reused #locations. the story was fairly solid at the start but the game is incredibly short (im in act 3 at the end of 2 days of playing) esp in #comp to origins. everything feels vaguely disconnected in a way thats uncharacteristic of bioware with the context of having played dao dai #and some of me1. and introducing the timeskips did Not help. i can see why people got absolutely attached to the companions however #with the system of friend + rival and it producing dichotomic benefits. rivalmances apparently existing also creates a really fun way of #interacting with your companions. i like anders #anyways completely unprompted thoughts on da2 over thank you for your time (i just needed somewhere to put them or i would go insane)

#naruto #madara #madara uchiha #uchiha madara #hashirama flashback #+ hashirama #[FBI looking through my laptop voice] why the fuck have you been looking at this and crying for the past 3 hours #Also fun fact: I used to not really like the language of ''revealing your guts'' I felt it was just very ugly and un-poetic phrasing #But I've come to appreciate it in the sense that it conveys a pretty thorough idea of vulnerability that reveals a lot of how Madara #perceives it.#His phrasing of revealing vulnerability is incredibly visual; people quite literally opening themselves up for him to see. Related is how #his greatest discomfort is people standing behind him. You know. where he can't see them.#Also most Uchiha characters having common motif threads related to their eyes.#In Madara's case they're tied specifically to how he'd like to have full awareness and understanding of what's around him; and by extension #he'd like to have a measure of influence over them.#Something standing where he can't see it though he knows it's there is the most vulnerable position he can imagine himself in.#In multiple different ways! In this particular panel it's mostly related to trust and emotional vulnerability.#Which is a very fun character trait to have when you grow up in the conceiling yourself and backstabbing profession #And you are also very fatalistic and under the impression that people just can't change #you WOULD think the only solution would be if everyone could just magically rip themselves open
