there is a lot of media to choose from when learning about the batboys characters. Almost every comic, movie & game shows us different sides of their personality. id recommend these medias to start from. i would like to clarify that i am no expert in this. i have barely read any comics about them.

IM UPDATING THIS LITTLE GUIDE. most of the suggestions i gave were to give you all a quick understanding. now i see alot of people are liking this list but i just had to give you guys justice and gather up more suggestions and recommendations. but this time, they're actually important for lore and not only for a quick understanding.

lore wise:

a death in the family (jason todd's death) (no ones surprised kore); a lonely place of dying (immediately after ditf) (tim's introduction); batman: knightfall; batman: no man's land; bruce wayne: murderer/fugitive; batman: war games (ive heard its rough tho)

quick understanding:

batman: death in the family & batman: under the red hood, Arkham Knight (a more gritty version of jay, bruce, etc) juni ba's comics (i recommend juni ba's comics to every dc fan), batman vs robin, son of batman, gotham knights (take this one with a GRAIN OF SALT, not many liked it, i personally liked it 😭), wayne family adventures. (most of my characteristics for the batboys comes from wfa, its not exactly canon, more slice of life), if you're feeling like it you could give the series titans a try (first dc media i ever watched, im not too much of a fan of the earlier seasons, the characters building gets better down the road), young justice is a classic (currently watchinf yj, you could watch it for nightwing i suppose)

I have some issues with the movies, considering we do not get the full batfamily in most of them, plus i feel like their culture/roots often gets ignored (damian and dick for example). (Jason, tim and duke are often ignored. Mostly duke though).

what to keep in mind when writing:

dont fall for the stereotypes. jason wasn't some angry robin. tim isnt always glued to his computer. duke is 100% a batfam member and has his own full fleshed out character. damian isn't unfeeling. talia isn't a horrid mother. bruce is flawed yes, but for our sakes give him a chance.

dont forget their roots/race/ethnicity— i think it is canon that dick is romani (writers put that in ~2000's, in a very racist way as well. it doesn't erase the fact dick is romani, but take advice from romani and roma creators when writing for him (if you plan on highlighting his heritage)). damian is mixed— arab and chinese heritage on his mother's side, plus bruce is white so (wow kore you worded that beautifully). for damian his culture is pretty important— id recommend letting it shine through while writing.

dont forget duke. duke thomas is a batboy. he will always be a batboy. try and include him in any works where the other batboys r included.

•crane can be sickly sweet to His little dove sometimes, Praising his Little dove for such obedience as he repeatedly -and obsessively- rails into little dove until little Dove is cockdrunk.

•Crane can be absolutely cruel and berating to his little dove sometimes. Dosing them with a shot of adrenaline as he wraps his gloved hand strongly around your throat, mercilessly ramming into you as his hand grips your neck tighter. You nearly see black every time until the grip loosens enough to regain your sore haze. Your poor insides are sore and though you’re so scared… your body begs for more.

•Crane can be so demanding sometimes. “My sweet little dove, so naive and pure… wear a skirt, I must have you accessible to me for any misbehaviour~” His voice would coo in a sing song voice that would rack a shiver down little doves spine and a sadistic smirk from Crane.

•Little dove always knows when Crane wants to devour them because he’ll snap the band of their underwear teasingly but say nothing because he expects Little Dove to understand his nonverbal commands. Even if he just invented one. Little dove better hope they guessed right on nonverbal commands… or else.

• Crane doesn’t expect you to go down on him unless he is punishing you. He is merciless with it, one hand gripping your hair tightly while the other’s pulling at the chain collar and leash he put around your neck like he intends to end you.

•Crane won’t often go down on you because like I said in a previous post, He’s addicted to you, and obsessed. If he goes down on Little Dove? He won’t stop even if his jaw locks. Little dove will have probably orgasmed so many times that it hurts so bad to move afterwards.

•Crane loves using cuffs and hospital restraints on Little dove. Both things he can easily acquire due to his job as a psychiatrist at Arkham and as his Alias as Scarecrow.

•the Aftercare is extremely unexpected and unique, he will clean up Little dove with medical precision and care while he coos little vulgar comments and questions to little dove who is too fucked out to even answer. Example below.

A.) “Awww, is my sweet Little dove sore~? Can my little dove even sputter out a coherent sentence I wonder~” He mused as a clean rag swiped harshly against Little Dove’s centre making Little dove jerk and whine in pain. He smirked and chuckled sinisterly at their reaction. “I didn’t think so.” He ran his finger through little dove’s hair patronisingly. “perfectly obedient and mindless.” He sighed in a sickeningly content kind of expression. One of peace and relief and a Crumbling landslide of dread creeping into Little Dove as Crane continued to clean them up and dress Little dove in their dainty little nightclothes.

Moon phos is probably my all time favorite character to draw 😓

Some panels of moon phos for my reference, Ik the way i draw them doesn’t reflect their attitude in the manga- but i do love their design!!! Especially their moon clothes theyre so pretty the collar and sleeves…. One of my favorite things to draw.

Another part of moon phos is their pearl eye!!!! In the manga phos get their left eye replaced by a camera pearl eye and it glows in the dark and never closes which is the reason whenever i never draw them with both eyes closed…

----- SPOILERS FOR SUNRISE ON THE REAPING BY SUSANNE COLLINS + BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES + HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY-----

one thing about me is that i loooove to overanalyze a piece of media. i just finished reading sunrise on the reaping after highly anticipating this book for a couple of months and now need to put down my thoughts about it somewhere so here we are.

for the majority of this discussion, im going to be comparing sunrise on the reaping, the ballad of songbirds and snakes, and the hunger games trilogy as three stories. im regarding the entire hunger games trilogy as one story because i see that as the story of katniss. the ballad of songbirds and snakes is the story of snow. sunrise on the reaping is the story of haymitch.

i think sunrise on the reaping is the worst hunger games book. that doesn't mean it's a bad book; it's just that the original trilogy and tbosas (which i personally loved) set a very high bar. i'm starting this off with a disclaimer that, although most of this post is criticism, i definitely did enjoy reading the book and i think it's generally pretty good. it's just not incredibly good.

this story explores two main themes: the first being propaganda, and the second being the question of why an oppressed population does not fight against authority. i think it tackles the theme of propaganda pretty well. we see multiple instances of media being altered to represent a certain narrative. haymitch operates within the games as a character he makes up, the "rascal" and tries to put out his own propaganda, but the capitol beats him at his own game and uses the rascal against him. there's also the posters in district 12 and the capitol, haymitch's reaping, louella's death and lou lou, and certainly many, many more examples im forgetting to mention. this is done well. however, i don't think the book does an amazing job at tackling its second topic. the thing is, susanne collins' books have a pattern of posing a question which, by the conclusion of the book (or series, if you look at the hunger games trilogy), the main character answers for themselves. the hunger games is about just war theory, which asks what is an acceptable cause for war and what are acceptable actions during a war. the series explores different takes on the answers to these questions through different characters, most prominently peeta and gale. simply put, gale stands for violence and peeta stands for diplomacy. by choosing peeta at the end of the series, katniss makes a decision about her own stance on the topic. the ballad of songbirds and snakes is about the social contract theory. snow has to decide what the purpose of the hunger games is, and he concludes by the end of the book that the hunger games exist as a representation of the natural state of man as described by thomas hobbes. sunrise on the reaping asks why haymitch, all the tributes, district 12, or the entirety of the population of the districts do not rebel against their oppressors: snow, the peacekeepers, ultimately the entire capitol, who they outnumber easily. and haymitch's answer to this question is... nothing. he just thinks about it a bunch of times but doesn't get anywhere beyond that. and yes, the reason he doesn't manage to answer that question is probably because he is busy attempting to carry out a rebel plot and failing, which is reasonable, but the story as a whole suffers from that question remaining unanswered. the propaganda point, while well done, is not a question. the book is just showing many examples of something. interesting, but not necessarily engaging. the other hunger games books invite the reader to think about the moral question of the book themselves and give deep insight on the main character through the way they go about answering it. sunrise on the reaping largely fails to do that with the kind of depth that the other books did.

this brings me to my second point. sunrise on the reaping (before the epilogue) ends with haymitch on a complete low, having failed to carry out his rebel plot and lost his family and girlfriend. the hunger games ends with katniss still traumatized and recovering, but free of the oppressive regime. the ballad of songbirds and snakes ends with snow ready to rise to power, having destroyed all evidence of his wrongdoing, and the one person who knows it all vanished. basically, the other two stories do not end on entirely sad notes for the main character. there's nothing wrong with a sad ending in a book, but it definitely took away from my enjoyment of the book because there was no reward at any point. the entire story felt futile, and, to make it worse, i knew throughout the story that it was going to be futile. the happy epilogue is also not particularly rewarding because it has basically nothing at all to do with the events of the book. i would say that the book's sad ending didn't even really impact me because it wasn't a surprise. the saddest moment to me was probably louella's death, but it had been so long since that happened by the end of the story that it didn't really compound at the conclusion. even then, louella's death was not particularly devastating, because i barely had any attachment to the character.

i think sunrise on the reaping suffers most severely from being an unplanned prequel. what i mean by this is that it was obviously not planned out while the hunger games trilogy was being written. this is absolutely normal and expected; the ballad of songbirds and snakes was also obviously unplanned. the difference, however, is that tbosas takes place 64 years before the start of the original trilogy. the only character from tbosas who is present in the main books is snow himself, and he's the villain who is not having regular intimate conversations with the hunger games' main character and multiple other characters. snow is in a position where his backstory could really be anything and it wouldn't throw off the hunger games; it would only recontextualize it. do i think susanne collins' had thought up lucy gray baird when she said that district 12 had only had two victors before katniss and peeta? no, not at all. she may have had a vague idea that she wanted district 12's first victor to have a history with snow, but i highly doubt she was a fully realized character. in fact, i would guess that the reason why she said two victors but only introduced haymitch was to give herself a nonspecific character she could come back to later. if you asked her while writing catching fire, "who was haymitch's mentor in his games?" her answer may have been "the first district 12 victor", or "that's a secret", or "i haven't decided", but you know what i think was definitely, definitely not the answer? "katniss's unlikely allies, wiress and mags."

sunrise on the reaping reveals that haymitch was close to many significant characters from the hunger games trilogy, then says that the reason why we get no indication of this in those books is because he decided to distance himself from everyone after snow ruined his life. the fact that he knew all these people so closely, though, does recontextualize a lot of the hunger games, but instead of adding fun gotchas, it just makes a lot of the story baffling. for example, we are told that haymitch is so traumatized from his games that he doesn't associate at all with any of the people he knew from that time in his life—yet, when beetee, who hatched the rebel plot that got beetee's own son killed and ruined haymitch's life, hatches a new plot centered around haymitch's childhood best friend's daughter, her boyfriend, and several other people he knows, haymitch simply goes along with it with little to no protest. if haymitch is apathetic to everyone and everything, why isn't he apathetic to the concept of revolution entirely? isn't his motivation not hurting himself and his loved ones no matter what? another example is the dynamics of the youth of haymitch's time in district 12. if maysilee, merilee, and astrid were the best of friends before the games, how is it that by the hunger games trilogy merilee and astrid had basically nothing to do with each other?

moving on. lenore dove suffers from a serious case of tell-dont-show, admittedly because she was off screen for most of the book. i will say that i found it very difficult to care about her and their relationship given how little time she spent actually doing anything in the story. her most important moment, i would say, was the conversation she and haymitch have the morning of the reaping, where she says that the reaping is not an inevitability, although i did think that haymitch didn't actually engage fully with that idea and there could have been more done with that line of thought. i also found her death to be, for lack of a better word, silly. lenore dove's death hinging on her happening to find a bag of poisoned gumdrops in a wholeass meadow and haymitch happening to feed them to her is just too chance-y to me and not the kind of calculated move snow would pull.

going further, snow fully ranting to haymitch about the covey for no reason and basically voluntarily revealing to him that the first district 12 victor was his sweetheart also seems very out of character for snow. it is definitely in character for him to be obsessed with lucy gray even after such a long time; but i found the verbal reveal of it all to haymitch rather contrived.

i don't want to end on a negative note, so im going to talk about some things i did like about the book. like i said before, i think the point about propaganda was displayed well. i think the book's greatest strength, however, is that it shows how long the revolution in the hunger games was in the making. admittedly, the failed rebel plot isn't wildly interesting to read, but i appreciate how it shows that the rebels successfully managed to break the arena in the 75th games but had been at it for years. i would also like to add that most of the criticisms i have stem from understandable causes, like lenore dove being tell-dont-show because she simply cannot be present during the games. the main thing i think didn't really need to be done was the abundance of cameos. i think a couple small cameos would have been a nice nod, but the way almost every character we got to know in this book was present in the humger games was a bit much to me.

in conclusion, sunrise on the reaping adds an interesting new perspective to the world of the hunger games of the role of propaganda in an authoritarian regime and the slow, failure and sacrifice-ridden rise of rebellion. its shortcomings betray the traps of writing an unplanned prequel to a very tightly woven and intricate story, but is still overall a decent book. in fact, i would say that without the hunger games and tbosas for context, sunrise on the reaping is a wonderful book, but given those masterpieces exist, the most i can truly call it is "decent".

The QSMP is looking for smaller English-speaking streamers, so I figured I'd take the time to introduce qsmpblr to none other than Eric "Condi" Condifiction!!

Condi is an English-speaking Canadian who's a part of Just Roll With It (JRWI), the absurdly powerful dnd podcast he runs with his friends Bizly, Grizzly, and Slimecicle!! He plays several characters across their multiple campaigns, along with DM'ing his own campaign of Apotheosis. He plays/played Jay Ferin for Riptide, Rolan Deep for Blood in the Bayou, Sylnan Vengolor for Fated, Flynn Gustwind for Convergence, and Vyncent Sol for Prime Defenders. (plus something im probably forgetting whoops anyway)

He is insanely talented at rp and improv, with some of the more infamous and my favorite examples being episodes 53, 100, and 101 in JRWI: Riptide. The way he plays Jay Ferin is emotionally devastating and incredible, and she's genuinely brought me to tears multiple times. Though he plays his absolute heart out with every character he makes, she's just a neat example of his range and talent. Looking at the differences between Jay, the Navy's daughter, and someone like Rolan Deep, a lawyer returning to his hometown of Galloway to experience The Horrors™ is just wild man. Not to even mention everything he does with Vyncent and his multiple different characters inside him; along with everything he made for his own campaign of Apotheosis.

Something something charlie slimecicle calls him "God Gamer Condifiction." He's really good at video games dude I have no way to talk about this he just is its really scary honestly. On one of his more recent streams he went live playing Only Up! and he beat it in one go without any major setbacks, fast enough to refund the game and get all the money he spent on it back. Just for context.

He also has a background in minecraft roleplay specifically!! He was part of the SCU (Slimecicle Cinematic Universe) where he roleplayed several different characters. God!Condi and 100Days!Condi being the more defined ones. Everything he did in the SCU was nearly pure unscripted improv and incredibly impressive, and I highly recommend you go through and watch it!! (I go into detail on how to get into it on this post)

He doesn't just have background in the roleplay aspects of minecraft though, he was also briefly on SMPEarth and is skilled at regular minecraft too. He mainly strives at the roleplay aspects, but again the whole God Gamer Condifiction thing so ^_^

so, petey is EXTREMELY big into music, but it’s something he’s quite embarrassed about.

owns and has listened to every album and ep of theirs, knows every song off by heart,, has researched the band’s many smart ways of producing the music; the fibonacci sequence in lateralus, the whole concept of parabol(a), everything about the newly released 10000 days.. he can’t leave rosetta stoned alone, so much to look into

again; absolutely insane about the band, and is itching to tell someone all about it, but his confidence really nails him down.

i also imagine he’s quite a big fan of MJK’s other works - puscifer and a perfect circle.

that being said, he’s also a big fan of thirteenth step by apc.

i feel like mjk’s feature on white pony’s “passenger” would have also swindled his interest in deftones. he started off by listening to white pony, but found himself to enjoy deftones’ self titled, too

to say he was a music nerd could be a descriptor. he definitely knows his way around the niche, and is always looking at more stuff to listen to. you’d find him pondering at the cd racks in your local shop

‘i like the album art’ he says, ‘that’s why im taking so long’.

i believe it’s what makes him feel a little better about being a complete loner. nobody to hang out with? tool will sing you to sleep, petey, you don’t need much else

So far my biggest complaint with datv is that rook doesn’t get treated like a main character deserves. No emotional moments, they rarely if ever get comforted, and they rarely get to express a personality outside of “Im the leader.” Even with Varric and the Inquisitor Rook gets treated like a leader first and foremost, someone forced to make all the big decisions and influence the way people’s lives go. Even in relaxed moments the decision always falls back on Rook.

Despite the fact that a Warden rook is commented on being a warden pretty often, they never get asked how they’re feeling after Weisshaupt. The game has other wardens know and recognize Rook, many dialogue lines exclusive to being a warden, but for some reason one of the big warden quests is completely devoid of Rook’s place in it. Even during Weisshaupt Rook is clearly written as a warden, comments on actively occurring events, but for some reason right after Weisshaupt the game forgets that Davrin and Rook are wardens.

Other defined aspects of Rook are also disregarded too. The game talks a lot about Neve and Lucanis not sleeping enough, but Rook doing the exact same thing (if not worse) is rarely adressed outside of Varric (there’s probably other examples, but I’m pretty sure Davrin comments on Rook finally getting some rest when they get together).

The most emotion I’ve seen rook permitted to express so far was at D’Meta’s Crossing and when they walked around a Venetori controlled Dock Town. But with those examples it still wasn’t that personal to Rookz

Granted all of the severely emotional shit Rook is going through, all after seeing their friend get stabbed in the chest, releasing blighted gods, and being forced up into a position they weren’t prepared for, would work if the game adressed that characterization of Rook. If the game tried to have the gods use Rook’s repressed or disregarded emotions to manipulate them. Or if Rook got a moment to actually have it all crashing down on them. If Rook also got to have coping mechanisms for everything alongside the companions, really anything that gave Rook more personal things outside of Leader.

Yeah there’s the symbolism with the chess piece, of being stable and powerful. But you can still show that without only having them be that. If anything it shows that more when they’re also capable of being more. The game also mildly mentions the bird in an achievement, which also would’ve been cool to expand on.

I like the game, while it’s not really what I would consider an RPG (dialogue wheel + voiced mc kill that really quick), I just wish Rook’s character got to have a place other than just the leader. Or vise versa, that the fact Rook doesn’t get to be anything other than the leader was explored and used as a chance for characterization (both with companions & Rook).

The game isn’t that bad, again I have found myself liking it a lot, it’s just glaring issues like this that upset me. I feel so upset for Rook, so empathetic? It feels weird getting upset on behalf of a character that should be permitted to cry, and maybe be suicidal, on their own.

I still haven’t finished the game, I got past beating the three blighted dragons then fucked up and now I have to restart the entire game, but this has been a smaller but important thing I’ve noticed. Normally small details like forgetting a romance comment aren’t something I’d think made the game better, but this isn’t that small of a detail. Rook got robbed of everything outside of being the leader and maybe their romance. Which sucks because Rook is a pretty decent main character being that they’re set out to be a wild-card.

I complain a lot about bg3 getting bullshit updates despite the fact it’s been out full-release for so long, because it does suck and they are bullshit, and cannot deliver the game from horribly mediocre writing (or thousands of bugs). But it does sting a little to know datv probably isn’t going to get an update that gives Rook more moments or bringing in cut content.

Also on that note, if you want to expand or agree I’d love it, but would appreciate if you didn’t include spoilers.

random thought, but in this side of the hp fandom one of the many and popular theories is that Tom Riddle hated his humanity and wanted to be something bigger, greater, some sort of superior life form, right? from this, i can theorize so muchhhh

for example we can make a funky headcannon that tom riddle was painfully human - lupus, sweaty hands, always being cold, hair that had to be washed daily otherwise it would get oily, chronic migraines, etc- to the point it got on his nerves! this asshole is prideful, and im inclined to think that despite seeing himself as superior to others (due to his intelligence and magical prowess), he hated his weakness, his own human limitations.

what if the end result of voldemort was what he wanted ? not a simple consequence of his horcruxes, but a desired result to be inhuman. maybe he saw Egyptian deities that have an animal head and wanted that too, maybe he wanted to be some sort of life form above humans.

i like to think that making horcruxes influenced him greatly, in the way food started to taste like ash, he started hearing voices and got urges to hurt or kill (more so than his usual sadistic tendencies). he became immortal, he created a new identity -voldemort- , he gathered followers to worship him => he wanted to be a god.(reminds me of suguru in this aspect)

now, is this from his innate belief that he s superior therefore some sort of god, deity, or is it from the religious trauma he must have endured in the catholic orphanage? who knows. maybe both

point is, tom is a smart guy, genius even, so im not going to disregard the fact that he probably knew the consequences of creating horcruxes (insanity and becoming disfigured). srs, before making the decision of making his very first one, he must have read anything he could on the subject so he'd know any and every downside to it. as the fuckass said " voldemort is my past, present and future". it s a part of him, a choice he had made, and not a saddening consequence.

were his good looks useful in his manipulation? yes. did he appreciated his good looks? yes. but did he regret losing them? i doubt it. sure it came in handy but he's the the type to value intelligence and control above looks and aesthetics. (js the vibe i get, dont sue me). and if someone's manipulation is dependent on their face and ability to be charming and seductive, then sorry to say but that s not actual good manipulation (from his point of view anyway).

voldemort is still a part of him, a part of the grand painting that is tom riddle, so lets not forget this okay? okay.

I totally know what you mean and the trick is to make it less vague. Here is how I approach this problem:

Get yourself some materials. They don't even have to cost money. Find some apps (I love busuu and mango), some textbook you like the look of (can be a pdf or charity shop find) and a notebook (can be virtual but I recommend paper)

Write down the reasons you want to learn French. These can be super broad or super specific. Write as many down as you want. This will help you keep motivated and will help during the next step

Identify what you actually want to achieve in French ie do you want to be able to read books? Talk to people? Travel to francophone countries? Do business in French? Watch movies? Understand music? Based on your answers you'll be able to adjust your planning and emphasize the skills that are most important for you. Ideally your skill set should be well rounded but it's way less overwhelming when you have some clear goals

Set aside a specific schedule for studying French. Every day for a couple of minutes? Every other day for an hour? Every Thursday for two hours? Whatever feels manageable. Ideally, this should be as regular and as much as possible. But that can be really overwhelming and unrealistic if you're busy. Try to find a good balance so that you can make regular progress and have time for revisions to not immediately forget everything

Slowly wade into the material. Most textbooks and online resources will focus first on things like the alphabet and pronunciation, greetings and introductions, numbers, the weather, time, directions, hobbies, food etc. Take it one step at a time

Try to use different resources in addition to apps or textbooks. For example it's difficult to learn grammar just from an app (especially since apps like Duolingo don't really teach grammar) and you'll probably want to have a textbook with exercises and solutions too. But apps are great for vocabulary building and revisions. Music, podcasts and films are great for listening comprehension and immersion. In the beginning you don't even have to understand anything and can totally use subtitles to get a feeling for the language. You can also try a graded reader for A1 after a bit.

It's really important to use the language as early as possible so try finding people to practice with, which can even be online, start writing posts on here even if they're just single sentences, talk to your pet or houseplant. This will also help you gain confidence before you reach out to your teacher.

Rae Morningstar and Loneliness: An Analysis

SO something that occurred to me recently is how much being alone effects. well. everyone in Fable(not like everyone everyone but like,a not insignificant amount of people.) Their society is shown to be one of few(if not the only) thriving communities, and lots of people deal with being alone either before they join the cast, or during. Take Ulysses. when he shows up in Fable, he has to grapple with the fact that he is the last of his race. Same with Ari- being one of the last of the Aether. And for characters like Icarus, Caspian, and many many others, they have to deal with being alone before they find a community of people they can be around and trust. One such case is Rae Morningstar.

At the start of the story, Rae is alone. Almost everyone has some form of connection. Icarus, Centross, and Easton have ominous bane. Momboo, Jamie, and Easton are family. Haley already knows Momboo. The only people without any connection are Athena, Will, and Rae. Will's not really around much, and well, Athena had a retconned family so it doesn't really affect his character. (Though i totally do have thoughts about this post retconned Athena and stuff but this is a Rae post). However, by the end of the series, Rae is deeply embedded in the community. He was alone once. and he tries his hardest never to be again.

Rae's lowest moments are when he's alone. In season 1, when Enderian makes him that offer, he probably wouldve taken it in a heartbeat, if not for the fact that if he did, he would be Alone. (and also that he might be used against his friends) In s2 when he finds out he and Icarus are brothers, he is so desperate to hold on to that relationship. I think its why he's so desperate to keep that connection. He doesnt want to lose his brother again. Also the beginning of S2 IS SO bad for him. All of his friends, his family all gone. he's alone yet surrounded by the people he knows. He mentions how bad it wouldve been if not for Ocie- the one person who can relate to him. Someone that stops him from being completely alone. Then theres the sculk arc, which, do I even have to explain? In s3 , Rae gets mad at Centross. A big reason is because Centross left him alone. And when Icarus starts to isolate, later on, what does Rae say, in concern "I just don't want them to be alone." Rae was alone before. so now he tries to make sure that no one else in the community is. For example, he reaches out to everyone. He's always the one people go to for help, so that when they need it they won't be alone. See where Im going with this?

Another thing. Each and every time Rae met one of his partners? Bot him and the partner have been alone. Take Caspian- I mean Cas was alone in the prison, he was isolated. And Rae had been banned from seeing Jamie and Athena was being kept away. The two people he was closest too at the time had left him- even if it wasn't their own choice. When he met Aax, everyone he knew and loved had forgotten him. And Aax had been sitting alone in a cave. Waiting for Theo to return. Even when they first met, Aax was alone, being the only one to escape from the Telchins, and Rae was trapped in a home where he had no one to turn to. When he met Fenris, ,he was alone, having run from his home to keep people safe. And Fenris was alone after being turned into a wolf who couldnt even talk to other animals. for possibly centuries.

Even in smaller things, he doesn't want to be alone, like when he learns Centross and Fenris forgave Ven. He doesn't know how to deal with that anger, now that he's alone in it. He gets tatoos so that he wont forget these people, so he'll never be alone. And at the end of hist story? He and his family turn into gods. He'll never be alone, not even in death.

Anyway i just had some thoughts. if you noticed any inaccuries/have any points to add/ disagree with any of my points please reblog! i want to see waht other people think. Also i might make a follow up on how loneliness affects other characters, this really got me thinking

genshin leaks regarding varessa, my thoughts, and a [WIP] redesign underneath:

working on my first edit of the year :•3 this is a leak ofc, so once she receives more art + we have more information about her, then I'll remake it !

there are a few things that i both like and dislike about her design - for one, i actually really adore the bottom half of her design !!! a lot of hoyoverse designs tend to be really top heavy, often neglecting the legs at the detriment of the design, so i think it's a great change for once ! she also has a more pronounced hourglass figure, which helps her silhouette a lot !

however, i do think that her midriff being so empty does a disservice to her design, and let's not even forget to mention the blatant whitewashing :•( her colours are also very. in your face, lol, and are a bit clashing imo - her design isn't as bad as, let's say, chasca, for example, and i do think she has a lot of potential though !

from what we know about her from other characters, she's meant to be a professional competitive eater, and apparently, even a wrestler ? it'll be nice to see her interact with itto, lmao, especially considering the bull / cow motifs and the involvement in martial arts. i wonder if they took inspiration from that kawaii japanese wrestler that has been going viral lately tbh.

and now for the edit + comparison !

apologies if it looks a bit rough haha, this is just the planning stage for now -

anyways, the biggest change i made so far, besides the skin tone ofc (its not finalised yet btw, bc im not too sure if i want to go lighter or darker, but i do know that i want her to have pinker undertones - ive tried doing more yellow / olive undertones to tie in her sweater more, but it ended up ruining the whole thing 😭), was to change her two-piece into more of a leotard / swimsuit inspired piece that she wears underneath her skirt and sweater ! while I'm not always the biggest fan of a lot of modesty redesigns (especially with characters that i feel like it actually does a disservice to or takes away what makes the character stand out, like yae miko), i think it helps tie in her black elements more + provides more interest to her midriff. i also changed her body shape a bit to make her feel more balanced + a slightly more realistic figure, especially regarding her hobbies. i also made her face rounder, but i also tried to change her eye shape slightly so that me making her face rounder wouldn't make her look more baby-faced than in her original yk ?

as for later, i want to desaturate her hair a bit so that it clashes less with her sweater - it feels like the colours are fighting for dominance, so i think adding more contrast would really benefit the design.

i also want to possibly bring in the pink rope that's around her left arm and incorporate it somewhere else in her design. if not the rope, then at least the darker pink - maybe in the knee brace that she wears ?

speaking of, i actually think that the hearts and crosses motifs r really cute, especially the hearts, but they do feel quite out of place, with how much triangular patterns she has going on :•< i do wonder if there's any sort of lore relevancy behind it, so unfortunately there's not much i can do about it now, until we get more information about her, i suppose.

overall, despite having many flaws, i dont think she has the WORST design to come out of the natlan patch yet, but im probably biased because I've been looking out for her since her teaser + also my love for pastel characters (like sigewinne and mizuki) :'•)

hi again. here are my questions:

1.) if my MC have more scars than her intial one, will they come up later in the story? for example: will RO during naughty scenes mention MC´s bullet scars or lash scars?

2.) how influencial will choices be? will the decision between car and bike change the outcome of MC escape? if i decide to dont kill any guards, make sure im not seen by anyone and reach the scientist, will the result be different than going in guns blazing/killing guards silently?

3.) about the "figure in the shadows", we see in their POV after the red room incident. they creeped me out, and i mean REALLY creeped me out. the whole thing with the pet name "sweet apple" and the fact that they are hiding in the shadows and "…That single thought sends shivers through their body…" just gives me creepy stalker vibes. (english is not my native language, so the "whole shiver through their body" probably means/implies something different). thats why i have to ask: is this person a romance options (i guess so, why else would they have a POV)? and if so, will there be an option to keep them as far away as possible from MC? dont get me wrong. if this was your intended effect, then take this as another compliment to your writing.

i apologize if the third point sounds harsh, but this character would be the first RO, which i really hate. there were other RO´s in other IF´s, which i didnt like, but never hated them. and to clarify: i may hate this character, but this doesnt mean i hate you, the author, or the story in total.

Answers for the questions below -

Yep, that's the idea. I want all the customisation options to at least have some mention so that they aren't just random options you select at the beginning of the game and forget about. They should be brought up in Chapter 2. I'm just trying to figure out how it will work with Cy and Echo, as realistically either of them at that point in the story might have already seen some of the scars. For Cy, I'm thinking of adding an option to choose if the scars are pre- or post-Cy leaving, but with how many options there are, if the player chooses all of them, I'm not sure if it would have even been possible to get that many scars in that amount of time. But it might just be one of those things where I sacrifice realism for an easier-to-write section.

So for the bike or car option, it will affect some flavour text for the mansion escape, but that's about it. For later in the game, it will be more influential, as it will give some different options for travelling and also for certain escape scenes. For killing the guards and being silent/guns ablazing, it will affect a scene after the sneaking quite heavily, and it will also affect how some of the RO's and some other characters will initially interact with the MC.

So the POV is supposed to be a POV for A; it was written before they were going to be an RO and was more just an enemy for the MC. I'm not super happy with the writing; as you put, some of the text comes off as pretty creepy. I'm probably going to rewrite/tweak it at some point so it's more of a general interest than an infatuation as it currently reads, as there will be options to be heavily distrustful of A and downright despise them, so the MC will only need to interact with them at the major parts of the story and not any more time than necessary.

No worries, it was really good feedback and made me re-read the section a bit more and identify some of the stuff that was already niggling at the back of my mind. All feedback is always good and helps with creating a better game in the edit, which is always the end goal.

Wanna say real quick if you're a fanfic writer and you're looking at my page like "ohhh they hit 500 followers so fast and they have a upload schedule and post twice a week, maybe i have to post twice a week to get followers" - Stop

This turned into a whole guide for newbies so more under the cut

Please do not use me as an example! Im disabled and unemployed which means i have time to write two chapters a week, please do not put that sort of pressure on yourself!!! I only let myself have a upload schedule because i keep a small backlog of chapters, meaning i have some buffer if my health is bad or i get writers block, and as yall saw recently i will take a break if i loose that backlog. If i was forcing myself to write two chapters a week on a strict deadline i would absolutely loose my shit and probably burn out very quickly. And to be entirely honest, I haven't seen much difference in follower growth now that I have a schedule versus when I was just posting whenever I remembered to. I really don't think a schedule makes a huge difference, I just like having one because it gives me some sense of routine now that I'm unemployed.

What im trying to say, especially if you're new to posting fanfics, is please dont stress yourself out by thinking you need a strict schedule for anyone to like your fic or follow you. You shouldn't be writing for followers anyway, write for yourself! Write because YOU want to write. And if you fall out of love with that writing, dont feel like you need to force it just to make others happy! When i get burnt out writing Wavelengths, I keep going because *I* want to get to the ending, I've been excited to write it for months. Its another reason i dont start writing new long forms until i have a generic plan of where im going, which is something i highly recommend. Having a chapter you're excited to write really helps when you're trying to find motivation.

While I have you here, let me lay down some general tips for new fanfic writers, especially for those who post on tumblr:

Write because you want to write. Don't ever feel like you need to cater to someone else, that's a sure fire way to get burn out

If you do get burn out: don't worry about it, either it'll pass or it won't. Maybe you'll drop that idea all together and move to something new. Don't sweat it, write what makes you happy. Forcing yourself will only make it worse and it'll show in your writing. Writing fanfics is a hobby, it should be FUN. Sure someone might come across your fic years from now and be sad that it's not complete but they'll probably only be sad for a few days at most and then they'll forget about it. Its not a big deal. Who knows, maybe you'll find inspiration years down the line and make someone's day by randomly updating after years of hiatus. It happens 🤷

Dont worry about how much engagement your fic gets. I know absolutely incredible fics that get barely any engagement, and some frankly hard reads that have a ridiculous amount. Its all just dumb luck really. Again - write because you want to

Don't sweat typos too bad. I recommend finishing your chapter/one shot, giving it a day or so, and THEN come back to proof read. I find doing this gives me fresh eyes and I often find a lot of ways to improve the chapter while I'm fixing typos. If you accidentally leave typos in there, don't worry too much. As long as it makes enough sense for people to understand what you meant, people will still read it. Just look at the first few chapters of Wavelengths for example, they're riddled with typos from swapping from 3rd to 1st person, but people still read them (I'LL FIX THEM SOON I PROMISE LMAO)

Don't worry about being cringe. Cringe is dead, make your characters as self inserty and over powered as you want. CRINGE IS DEAD. If you think its fun to write powers and tropes that you're worried will be cringe, fuck it, write it anyway. As long as YOU have fun writing it. Do you know how many "whoops accidental pregnancy" trope fics I've written? Every single one of my long forms has either had it, or planned to, because I like that trope! I don't care if its cringe, I will continue to get my characters knocked up

Some quick accessibility things:

Please left align your fic! I've seen people posting center and right aligned because it "looks cool". These alignments should be used sparingly! As well as things like italics and different fonts/font sizes/colours! They should be used to highlight small sections only! Otherwise they can make it very difficult for people with reading difficulties to read!

If you're posting on tumblr:

Make sure the majority of your fic uses the default black font. Some people set the whole thing to a different font or the "small" font or a different colour and I literally can't read them, and it makes me so sad! I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue! Its okay to use other fonts for things like headers and descriptions, but for the bulk of your fic use the default! Theres a graphic designer out there somewhere who spent a long time picking the best font for the body text on this website for a reason!

If your fic is longer than a few paragraphs, use the READ MORE function!!! Either cut under a description or the first few paragraphs so people get a preview of your fic. You may think it's silly to hide most of your fic, but if someone, especially on mobile, comes across your fic automatically trimmed on the fyp, and likes your stuff, and they go to your account to see more and have to scroll for a million years just to get past your newest post, they're quickly going to give up trying to read your other stuff. Using the read more function makes it easy for people to browse your blog and check out more of your works!! It also makes it more likely people will reblog for the same reason.

Along the same lines: have a masterlist. This can be as simple as a pinned post where you add a link every time you post something new. This makes it super easy for people to check out more of your work!

If you have a long form/multi chapter I also recommend going to the previous chapter and adding a "next chapter" link when you post the next one. Not 100% needed though, if you have a masterlist that can be enough on its own, people just appreciate having that next chapter link for binge reading. PUT IT AT THE BOTTOM PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING. I hate when I finish a chapter and have to scroll for a million years to get to the top for the link

Feel absolutely free to use the way I format my fics and masterlist as example, but like I said, it can literally be just as simple as a list of links. I recommend listing the links at bare minimum as the title of the fic, and the pairing people can expect (including if its nsfw is a good idea too)

Speaking of NSFW: if your work isn't suitable for minors please make that clear! Even just a 'minors DNI' at the start of the post is good! If you wanna get fancy there are lots of creators who make lovely 18+/minors dni banners you can use for free, just google it and plenty will come up. If you're not adding a cut before the NSFW content then make sure you mark the post as for mature audiences (idk how you do it on the computer because I'm mostly a mobile user but on mobile you can find it bottom right, the icon with the two people). Not appropriately censoring your posts can result in tumblr restricting and possibly banning your account.

Finally, and this one is oddly specific to people who use google docs, but you can use a copy of this google doc to automatically add all the html to your writing so you can just copy and paste it into tumblr or AO3, instead of having to manually fix all the formatting. Do not just copy and paste AO3 html into tumblr, for some reason it has major issues with italics and will cause you a major headache. Just use the linked doc, its a super time saver, I've been using it for ages now

And can you (or any headmate) control any of them? we have one inner world but BOY IS IT JAM PACKED. we have the mainland which has the most if not all of our brainmades, our freq fronters and early syscovery headmates live in the main house (ik so original /sarc /silly), theres the caves and oasis, the enterprise base, the taco house, the aesthetic village, the online hivemind apartment, and the arcade which is like its own continent in the mainland. our deltarune, sonic prime, and bnha/mha introjects live in the mainland too. we then have an island called the archives towers, and a separate continent where most of our early introjects are; dsmp, eddsworld, songtives, little nightmares, night in the woods, our self insert bnha/mha, etc etc, the countryside, another continent connected to prev where our later introjects are; hilda and others, puss n boots franchise, imaginary friends asylum, helluvaverse, youtubers, pokemon, class of 09, bluey, the dwampyverse, dandadan, psychocuties, mouthwashing, and MORE THAT IM DEFINITELY FORGETTING. and THEN you have the entirety of hollownest under these continents which is massive in of itself. and then theres the void and the ocean. WHEW /vpos. i think only like... one or two out of the 500+ can "control it" dont quote me on that i know that the least

And why? alters hands down we never liked using the term alters because we connected it to 'alternate personalities' which no we are not just fucking other personalities were our own people not just others of one person /nay /no hate to those who do like it its just not our thing. another that isnt really a term but still related is being referred to as you&/you+ etc just never our thing we like being clearly referred to as multiple

(i.e. more 16 year olds than anything, more agesliders, etc) probably late teens/early twenties is the most common age range for our headmates but theyre also mostly agesliders. second id say would be ageless
