Daimian Joins Batfam Early AU

Damian joins the family .... a little too early

Tiny Damian stares up at Batman with wide blue eyes. Talia hands him over and hes reaching for him, his son. Damian’s mesmerized—touching Bruce’s face, his mask, his cape—all the way to the Batcave. Everything’s going fine until...

Bruce takes off the cowl.

Damian: gasp

Bruce: “What’s wrong?”

Damian, dead serious: “You are not a bat.”

Bruce: chuckling “I’m not.”

Damian, betrayed and spiraling: “Can you fly?”

Bruce: “No—”

Damian: “YOU ARE NOT FLUFFY.”

Bruce: “What?”

Silence.

Damian: pushes Bruce away “I want to go home.”

Damian had only seen Egyptian fruit bats before. Talia told him his father was The Bat, he was told he is Ibn Al-Xuffash so of course he expected a majestic, winged, furry bat-man imposing creature to be his father. Instead, he gets a brooding man in a costume... he thought he was going to be taller, tt.

Then comes Tim. Damian is told he’ll meet “Robin.” He braces for feathers, bird-boy. What he gets: a lanky teenager in a traffic light suit. He is offended. Jason lied, nothing about this "robin" thing is magic, there is no wonder.

Nightwing? Even worse. Damian was genuinely excited to meet a Kryptonian bird. He had never seen an alien bird before. This was a big moment for him. And then Dick Grayson walks in.

No wonder his mother kept him away. She said he had to prove himself, that he is not ready, but clearly she meant his father had to prove himself in training first. She was right. It is taking all of Damian’s inner strength to be around these imbeciles.

The only one who lives up to expectations is Alfred. He gives Damian cookies. Damian has never had cookies before. They are warm. They are delicious. Damian imprints.

you know that trope about hot dads having babies and pushing them around in a stroller and how it attracts large groups of women to crowd around him? this happens to satoru a lot when you leave him alone at the store or the park to grab something. he could be walking around for a bit or sitting down at a bench, staring down at your baby girl and making goofy faces to make her laugh and random women will suddenly start to approach. they’ll come with their high pitched voices, flushed cheeks and giggles, under the guise of cooing at the adorable baby bc they really have another agenda at play. satoru, the keenest person you’ve ever met, is suddenly oblivious to the advances — thinking they’re just being nice. his baby is the cutest! of course they will be fawning over her! luckily, unlike her father, your baby must have some sort of awareness bc her smile immediately turns into a frown at the sight of another woman hovering above her. her laughter turns into extremely distressed tears, almost in a way that says: “stay away. you are not my mama.” it flusters the ladies, and satoru has to apologize on her behalf and it puzzles him that as soon as they’re out of sight, her tears die down and she’s all joy once more. cheeky, satoru can’t help but think. just like her mother. when satoru recalls the story to you, speculating she might be shy with new faces, you can’t help but be proud. even at a few months old, your daughter is looking out for you and making sure strange women can’t get close to your man.

if ONLY because i was at work yesterday out in the play yard and one of the babies from the one year old room walked up to me, held up her arms and went "up. up" and i caved like a wet fucken nOODLE and im inflicting that onto Bruce

so im just picturing like, roughly 18mo Danny, just absolutely teeny, walking up to Bruce in the Batman suit, grabbing his cape and pulling on it to get his attention or plastering himself to the side of his legs (<- real experience i've had) and when Bruce looks down at him Danny just goes "Bah-man, bah-man. Up."

and im teLLING YOU. Bruce would cave in a fucking heartbeat.

or if he crouches down, Danny will just crawl onto him anyways. wraps both arms around his neck and tries to raise his leg over his knee so he can wrap himself around his waist (<- ALSO A REAL EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD)

also he can't fully articulate himself yet, he doesn't have all of his teeth quite yet and phonetics are harD, so he can't say Bruce it just sounds like "boo" or "booce" like 'boost' but without the 't'.
