it is explicitly a child marketing genre. the reason it has slowly crept up in explicit content/maturity (some of it) is because FNAF came out in 2014 and everyone who grew up with it is now a teenager or older. also no offense to OP but there does seem to be a weird blank spot in the minds of many, many tumblr users where "childhood compulsion to seek out traumatic media having to do with children" got skipped over during their own childhoods, and they express confusion at children really, really wanting to seek out and look at and scare themselves with stuff that is incredibly disturbing to adults, sometimes moreso than to children. but thats extremely normal and common in the general population because even kids who arent being abused and traumatized conventionally in the majority of the population who has access to stuff like mascot horror is still experiencing alienated, rights-free childhood under capitalism and is continually seeking to externalize that anxiety in the context of play in order to process and master it. FNAF is literally a multitasking anxiety simulator about a sub-minimum wage job and so are most of the others, in a sense the predatory nature of the genre in terms of marketing commodities to children is spelled out by the genre itself being about what are essentially children's toys literally stalking and killing/devouring the player. its a way for children to externalize their sense of being stalked by uncanny and deceptive constructs designed to lure them, even if they arent aware that's what's triggering their interest

banban specifically was explicitly a shitpost that got accidentally popular and the creators walked back the parody in order to cash in. people will argue with you about this but they are wrong. the first game is undeniably "this is a low effort pastiche of the genre" and anyone who has doubts about that is probably very young or willing to take the word of grifters who immediately saw that kids didnt get the joke and could badger a parent into buying them a $30 opila bird plush (at target). poppy playtime isnt a shitpost, but did just put the merch link directly in their start menu UI.

scott cawthon has inadvertently contributed massively to this by almost never telling fan game creators to knock it off, and also by often incorporating fan works into his canon or hiring them or endorsing them in various ways, which i think he doesn't do cynically, but has been sort of short sighted because the parasocial situation it has created is real bad

there are also a massive number of pedophiles operating more or less openly in the fandom/genre, which is where a lot of the money and expertise is coming from. there are a lot of extremely popular youtubers who get millions of hits making Party Time Chica Bikini Twerking GETS GROUNDED!!! pt 6, marking it "For Kids", and waiting for the ipad kids to watch preroll ads. the slightly older tweens then joining the creator's discord to get groomed is just a side hustle

mascot horror is frustrating because i dont know who its for. the material is adult enough to have explicit gore be prominent, but the puzzles are for baby children. they'll dangle the idea of child murder having possibly maybe i dunno happened over you as if that's scary. it wants none of the responsibility of telling a meaningful story or getting actually dark. it's the worst of both worlds of horror aimed at adults and children, cause you still have to give a shit about the children playing it!

Batfamily fans don’t mischaracterize arrow characters to prop up bats when you’ve very clearly never touched an arrow family comic in your life challenge IMPOSSIBLE EDITION!!!!!!

Like I so desperately don't want to come off as one of those asshole comic fans cause like I so genuinely want people to know these characters and this wonderful story telling device. This industry which has a lot of problems but is so fascinating and has such a rich history, like I really do want more people to get into comics. I literally keep a beginners list of comics that's digestible stories that aren't like a list of random issues which can be kinda intimidating to new fans. I try to keep it updated for characters and if I don"t have the character their looking for I'll go find a few ppl that do and like do a quick vet to see if they seem to know what they're talking abt and give that to them and if anyone is interested in that pls hit me up let me know I genuinely love introducing ppl to this world!!

Its just so frustrating watching your favorite characters get constantly mischaracterized to such an extreme extent by other people in the fandom and then have that be the general consistence of what they're like when its so far from how they act in the actual comics that are about them!! and then get told that I'm wrong even tho i can literally back up what I'm saying with panel proof from multiple runs! Its not even contained to the fandom IT HAPPENS IN BAT BOOKS TOO!! Bat book writers constantly change arrow characters to fit their story lines and make the bats look good and I get it that's how it works these are paper dolls that have been used for over 80 years and have had hundreds of people use them. They're meant to be molded to fit the current story the writer wants to tell but its frustrating cause then people will ignore all of the books that center them and just take batbooks as being word of god for all characters.

I just want to say a huge thank you for fostering the momma and babies- I love seeing the baby update photos you share here and as a shelter worker I know exactly how difficult it is to find dog fosters for mom and babies, especially dogs. I'm sure the place you are fostering for is so so thankful for you.

I’m having a lot of fun! Honestly raising a litter of puppies has been on my bucket list for a while :p and if people r looking for the experience of raising a litter, checking your local shelter to see if they have any litters in need of fostering is a great way to go!

Pros: free puppies. Temporary commitment. You don’t have to pay for it. Free.

THAT BEING SAID I totally get why it’s harder to find fosters for litters and mamas. I have made this helpful guide for those considering doing the same.

The first day of the new school year began much the same as any other; being accosted by the hallway monitor for dawdling, having inappropriate footwear and daring to possess yet another pair of headphones, only for them to remember who he was and abandon any hopes of receiving an explanation, or an excuse.

Robin thought he would’ve outgrown his selective mutism by now, but apparently, it didn’t work like that. He’d eventually seen a therapist a few years prior, but the poor man didn’t exactly have a handbook for “strange child who can’t speak sometimes due to other people’s overwhelming head voices but won’t/can’t explain himself to anyone other than a ghost who’s stuck in his attic” so, it’d fallen a little flat. At least, that’s what he kept telling himself; but the older he got, the more he started to think he’d been using his gift as a convenient excuse for some of his issues. Maybe. Possibly.

Much less bombarded than when he was little, Robin could usually tune out the everyday chatter within surrounding minds, though he rarely did. He’d become far too accustomed to being nosy, and at this point it was weirder NOT to hear everyone else’s thoughts. It produced an intense itchy feeling that was almost impossible to ignore, as though he’d miss something important the moment he stopped listening.

As a result, Robin struggled to live in the moment, and for himself; constantly juggling other people’s thoughts and emotions as well as his own. Sometimes he wondered if he’d understand his brain better if it belonged to someone else, like if he could observe it from a distance as with everyone else, it’d make more sense-.. or maybe paying more attention in Mr Fitzherbert’s biology classes would help. He supposed he was still overwhelmed after all, just better at hiding it.

Either way, he wasn’t about to admit to all this nonsense out loud, especially not if it landed him in Doctor Abbott’s office again. The last thing he wanted was for anyone to find out how weird he actually was, least of all a psychologist. Think of all the experiments they’d want to do, all the prodding and poking-.. or worse. Robin shuddered at the thought. No, thank you!
