Trolly Problem - A Genloss Theory/Thoughts focused on Hetch

Before I rant, I’m just saying that I feel silly and am just ranting. I saw 1 post about this and went haywire smile

Ok so i’ve been thinking about genloss, specifically, Hetch. Now I know a lot of us see him as villainous, seeing as he did manipulate Ranboo and in a way, killed them. But, as I’ve been thinking, Hetch as a character seemed a bit to simple. A villain, a killer, someone we shouldn’t trust. However, what if that in a way, he as a person was masked a bit. our view has been masked before and I don’t doubt we are free from it. So, my rant begins:

First off, titles. Hetch, apparently, was a name the Scottish used as a nickname for someone crooked. Which, with Hetchs character as we know goes, fits. But, nickname is what gets me. I could ask many questions about naming for some key characters, or a lack of naming. Examples include The Mastermind and The Founder. We are given titles that explain how they are relevant in a way. So, why wouldn’t the same go for Hetch? We know he works for The Founder, so maybe he was renamed to fit the role. The role he needed to serve.

That segway’s into my next point. A post talked about how people with masked in genloss are controllable, like the workers and Ran, as well as including Hetch. So what if Hetch is high in power, nearing The Founder, but still a puppet. Again, new point. It can be assumed that Hetch is a puppet for The Founder. But, what if that isn’t the case. Someone outside of Showfall trying to expose Showfall. But, evident by the 7-foot monster that killed multiple people, and upped security we know from Hetch telling us, simply walking in can’t happen. We know Showfall can’t stop hackers, evident by Hetch and Squiggles interactions, if you can call them that. 

I’ll stop building fluff around this and just say it, I think Hetch is a puppet being used to tear down Showfall Media. However, he works there and was quite high on the job scale. The person who is puppeteering him could be doing what we did to Ranboo in the Cabin. We told Ranboo to go somewhere, but didn’t control a lot of what they did or how they did it, aside from a one worded command. Explore. Could this person controlling Hetch be doing similar things, but with Hetch being aware of Showfall control on Ranboo or just Showfall being able to control people. Or they let him keep those memories, not relevant.

I said i’d stop the fluff then added more so here’s the good part. The person puppeteering Hetch wants us to see him as villainous as well as those working with The Founder, who we assume are well aware of everything, as people who need to be torn down. Making Hetch be the only person from The Founders direct team and our only representative of them it a great idea for the goal of tearing Showfall Media down. If we assume the Founder is the Founder of Showfall. Anyways, with how we view Hetch, maybe they want us to view the rest of them to be untrustworthy. Make us take very thing they say with a grain of salt. 

Ok that’s it, i’m not the best at explaining my theory but I hope it makes sense. A few more things though. If we believe that there is a separating party involved, that could make a neat ending. We have to make one final choice, which villain do we eliminate? Both could leave us with a feeling of dread. Ranboo seems to likes that. Adding on to that, Hetch could be neutral. Controlled by one side, but technically working for the other. Neat character idea. Bonus, stab wound was given to try and make him easier to control. Getting him both mentally and physically tired.

Also, I think you can somewhat ignore the thought of another person puppeteering Hetch or assume is just Hetch acting. But, I don’t think we know enough about Hetch and his true motives, or things threatening him. To finish this off, I pose a question to you:

You know the trolly question? The train going to hit one person or five, and we have to pick. Have you every thought of the person who was controlling the train, or the one who launched it? If they were trying to stop it, to make it better once aware. Would you blame them for the accident, a situation they might have not been able to control? Just some thoughts.

I just thought of something.

James Potter was the only bully who was not part of a hated group and had to deal with it personally, unless you count how Muggles drove wizards into hiding. Even then, he had no experience with Muggles.

Draco Malfoy is a Slytherin and a Death Eaters child, which caused him to occasionally be treated more harshly than normal even when he’s right/didn’t do anything wrong. He was definitely raised wrongly as in he would get mocked by DEs for not being cruel enough and taught bad beliefs. He was also trained to keep secrets about himself.

(In addition Rowling doesnt seem to have liked Slytherin or Draco much. Especially since she repeatedly denied/retconned things that she wrote in the books.)

Dudley Dursley is a muggle and he and his mother both had first hand experience of wizards prejudice against them.

Severus Snape had to deal with prejudices against Wizards, Slytherin and potentially being a Half Blood.

No wonder James Potter was so much more sadistic than any of them. Unlike them, He has no idea what it’s like to be discriminated against and he is in the authors favorite house, Gryffindor.

That’s extremely true, I always thought part of the reason why he was so sadistic was due to his insane privilege, and never having faced discrimination is definitely a privilege.

That’s why so many Marauder stans race-bend James or make up lore or angst to make his actions more excusable and make him more likeable/relatable. Because, think about it, Remus was a werewolf and is shunned by literally ALL of society (including blood traitors), Sirius was rich and handsome but was abused by his family so badly to the point of running away, and Peter was unattractive and a bit slow. So it’s easy to sympathise and make excuses for them, y’know? “Oh don’t blame him, imagine being _________.” No excuse can be made for James. He was a rich, pureblood, white, good-looking, smart, popular, and athletic Gryffindor who was loved by his parents and had every opportunity to be good, and he failed miserably.

what is it with leo that villian donnie sees him as his bully compared to raph and mikey? like is it just leo being #leo + donnie not understanding the teasing that was an effect of the hero/villain dynamic, or was it some Specific Thing leo did/does?

leo gets the most personal, generally, so it is just leo being #Leo. raph's more focused on what donnie's doing than anything else-- which is usually crime. and mikey's a lot nicer just because he finds donnie interesting, and is eventually interested in connecting to him as a family member. he can be mean to villains, but with donnie in particular he finds his tech interesting so he's more open to him!! he doesnt hold back in combat though lol

leo aims for where it hurts. he makes fun of the way he dresses, the way he talks, anything he can to fluster and rile him up because it makes him sloppy. he rubs salt in the wound when they defeat him. he'll push donnie to the point of flying into a rage and then laugh at him for acting so embarrassing and being thin-skinned. he'll joke around with the others too about him sometimes, even to the point where it feels like they're not listening to donnie's rehearsed villain speeches he was SO EXCITED TO UNVEIL and it really flusters and upsets him. its mean, but donnie's blowing shit up, i think they've moved past that lmao.

and donnie... kind of sees leo as, like,,, cool? he seems to know what he's doing, at least when it comes to how he socializes. maybe he doesnt look up to him just yet, but he does quietly want his approval and sees him as kind of the model example of what a cool person would be. so when leo criticizes him, he takes it very personally. it means he's doing something wrong.

like if he wants to be anything, it's to be cool. to be likeable and popular. especially once he starts branching out and meeting other people willing to give him a chance, he's stumbling over himself trying to play himself up and seem worth putting up with. but leo's words are a cutting reminder that he doesn't even know what acceptance looks like, and he'll never fit in anywhere, even with the only people exactly like him, and he cries himself to sleep every other night about it.

omg. thats incredible. honestly ive heard from quite a few people that pirates completely changed their view/reading of saejima (ME INCLUDED TO AN EXTENT) and it's really not that surprising to me, especially considering y4 and y5 remastered suffered from some very unfortunate localization choices for saejima specifically, obscuring/misrepresenting his character, and i thought pirates did a wayyy better job of portraying him accurately. so that makes sense to me. and thank you!! im so glad to hear u like my thoughts on them im always trying to understand what the fuck is going on with the two of them lmfao

True Form

Shirou's True form appears to have Head wings and a Halo similar to their Mother's, while also being deathly pale. Their wings appear larger and they add a few bandages. with now a huge hole in his Torso and a burnt left wing, revealing the skeleton, due to the recent battle he had.

Also in his true form, he doesnt have full control of his abilities!! surprise i nerfed his ass!! >_<

Healing Ability

Shirou channels restorative energy called Life Essence, healing others while his physical health is damaged. he can't heal higher species of angels, or himself. so it's not an abusable ability

Portal Travel

The ability isn't much accurate. He can think of a place then slash his knife (The Eternal Vow) in a move to spawn one.

Shirou has 2 weapons given by Sukiuna which is The Eviscerator (Axe) and Eternal Vow (Knife)

The Eviscerator

The axe took the dying, this axe has been with Shirou throughout his life starting at the age of 10. This axe appears to be 45 inches long and the axe heads make it a total of 17 inches wide. along with very simple carvings on both axe heads.

Eternal Vow

This knife was originally a sword, due to the usage, it got chipped and broken, reforming as a knife. it is 10 inches long (4.5 on the handle, 5.5 on the blade) The blade also has similar carvings from The Eviscerator.

Lore:

Once there were 2 kids in an adoption center, Shirou and Mira. A tall figure finds the two children, That figure was a woman named Sukiuna. She takes a glance at the 2 kids. disappointedly looks at the horn of the young girl, she takes the young male and leaves the other. while also wiping his memory of him having a sibling.

At Heaven, Suki reveals her true form, and takes him as her son, due to him being an orphan. In return, She trains Shirou, and others like him to take dying souls, either violently or with mercy. He meets other people there, which he became close with. Brutus, which he sees as an uncle. Artemis, his first ever friend. and Ellenor, Another friend, she isn't really close with at this time. 

"I don't want to do this."

He went under the nickname: Rat

One day, his target was a young boy about his age, dying of an illness. He secretly heals the dying child. not knowing what he had done, Suki eventually found out, and so did Death itself. As for his punishment, his wings were sliced off his back, beat up and had gone worse, slashed his left eye.

He heads to Artemis' Garden and hides there. He was comforted for a short amount of time, before heading off to the Overworld, aka. Earth, to not bother anyone anymore.

Shirou, still using the nickname "Rat" , Wanders Earth to find a place to stay. There he found a random apartment. Someone opened the door to him looking for a place to stay. being accepted into the tiny living space, making 2 other friends. For 2 years the four friends have lived together in a small apartment, before he leaves due to his paranoia of being found by the other angels.

Now at 14, he goes under the alias "Runa" before finding other worlds with other people to be friends with. Being a skilled healer. Nothing too interesting happened at this age.

At 16, he finds the pink house, we all know as "Daisy's House" Reuniting with familiar faces, Artemis, Brutus, and Ellenor. he hangs around there often. making new friends such as Max Godspeed, Jaws, Asteral, Star Bell and a few others. while still visiting old friends from other worlds

He finds Sunshine Valley, Also known as The Other World. Where he moves in there where. it's quite eerie, yet peaceful. The only thing bothering him is the corruption that lies behind what saved the realm.

Japanese Cinema Month :High and Low

So for my second film of the month....Well my Roku went a little nutty (We fixed it dont worry but isnt the streaming age fun gang ) ,so I had to watch a blu ray and thankfully I had just gotten this one from Criterion recently as a blind buy .Now you might be wondering why I picked this movie ....HOnestly .....I was sold soley on the premise

In this 1963 film shoe factory manager Kingo Gondo (Toshiro Mifune ) gets a phone call that his son Jun (Toshio Egi ) is kidnapped........Thing is Jun is fine ,but his best friend Shinichi (Masahiko Shimizu) is missing....The kidnapper got the wrong kid .Gondo is put ina bind ,as he actually doesnt have the money needed for the ransom and hes currently at risk of being voted out of his company ,and if he were to pay he risks ruin for his entire family but if he doesnt a boy will die

Now it is this premise that intrigued me to the film,will a guy ruin himself to do the selfless thing.....But what I find interesting is thats just the first half ,and the second part of the film is a procedural of the cops trying to find the kidnappers .Now this film.....Really risked not working ,cause I was so into the ethical question and interpersonal character drama of the first half,that making it a "Catch the criminal" film in the second hour couldve been really boring,but it works.The second half of the film actually reminds me of the Fritz Lang classic M and if Im comparing to Fritz Lang thats a hig compliment .Two elements I really liked in the second half were how the kidnapped boys father played into it and especially the final scene with the villain

I also wanna point out this is my second non period piece I have seen by Akira Kurosawa.My previous more contemporary film from him was Dreams.....Though that film is fantasy while this film is firmly a crime drama .What I like about Kurosawas direction is it feels like....Hes aware of what audiences could criticise....And adresses those issues in interesting ways ,most notably in the empathy he shows both the Gondo and the films villain

This is one of those rare movies where I feel every character right down to the most minor side character is perfectly cast ,like Yutaka Sada as the worried meek single father ,Kenjiro Ishiyama as the gruff cop ,Tatsuya Mihashi as Gondos cutthroat assistant ,and Kyoko Kagawa as Reiko the wife of our lead pleading with him to do the right thing.Even minor characters like the shoe executives or the guy incinerating things are really memorable . Tatsuya Nakadai is very solid and likeable as the lead investigator.I must heap praises on Tsutomo Yamazaki who plays the villain does a fabulous job as a guy who does heinous things and has a cold exterior .....To hide he is just a bitter broken guy who I feel a little bad for ,and he does this in just a few scenes .Finally we got our lead played by the great Toshiro Mifune ,who is to no ones surprise really good in this ,as a guy whose done some shady stuff but we see regain his humanity ,taking a character who really couldve been NOT sympathetic and making me feel for him .The funny thing is Mifune is so great here......It honestly makes me more impressed with the cast cause every characterjust feels like the right character for this story ,and Mifune feels uspoorted and not like he overshadows anyone else

one of the major takeaways from that scene where everything that nate looks for in a girl is laid out and the scenes that explain what he liked about maddy is that there's this theme of being drawn to traditional feminity/someone that can play a traditionally feminine role

i think there are a lot of factors that play into him wanting that-- it reflects what he's familiar with, a more feminine partner will push back less/be easier to manipulate (in his head at least), and maybe a smidge of comphet depending on how you read his sexuality

one of his main fantasies is saving maddy from another man and when maddy was trying to win him over, she played into her femininity (and cassie kind of did the same)

and when you think about these reasons and the kind of girl he'd want to go for (and you look at the way he treats maddy when he apologizes and when they first started dating) it's natural for him to have some kinder qualities that come from the instinct to fill that traditionally masculine role in a relationship

so, when considering all of that,, i think nate can be really charming, maybe even a little chivalrous when he's really trying to win someone over

i also think nate's relatively good at reading people, and he can clock that the reader from that last blurb is trying to be a party girl more than actually being one, he knows that reader would never want to be around him if he's openly an asshole, so he manipulates subtly (telling reader to keep their interactions a secret from maddy for her own sake, all while knowing that the sooner he breaks that 'secret keeping' barrier, it'll only get easier to get reader to keep more and more from her friends)

i also see nate as someone who is very capable of being likeable when he wants to be, and reader being kind of sheltered/"innocent" and maddy's friend and being so determined to not like him makes him want to put in the work,,

so he's going to make a point of being soft spoken and nice when he has to see reader, and the harder she tries to dismiss him, the more he's going to commit bc it becomes less about getting maddy's attention and a little more about his ego,, and then finally, about reader

and if we're comparing this reader to final girl!reader or best friend! reader,, (you guys have no way of having known this, i barely referenced it in one sentence) i see this reader as being less looked out for

i picture her mom as one of those moms that wants to be "the cool mom" so bad so that she can pretend her daughter's friends are hers too, and she's so excited that reader is being more social/popular that she's a little lost in it

and i see reader's dad (not me finally giving readers a dad) as being almost the polar opposite, strict and traditional,, so reader still feels the need to hide going out and drinking bc it starts arguments with her parents and that makes her feel guilty

i'd really love to write a fic explaining all of these dynamics and how they overlap with the same style of narration that euphoria episodes that center a specific character's background story are,, i love mimicking niche voices like that it's so fun
